  • Sony Ericsson Receives Reviews from FCCThe unlocked Sony Ericsson (txt pro) phone that has been the talk of a lot of recent news stories, has been examined by the FCC. The FCC review and examination process is one that is mostly secretive, and not much is revealed about what they look for mobile devices. Many of the manufacturers usually choose to keep the majority of the information regarding the details and features of the device confidential for the screen by the FCC, in an effort to avoid leaks that we’ve seen in the past. The device has already been the subject is a huge Facebook advertising campaign, one that allowed a certain number of users to get their hands on the device early, so long as they would agree to review it on the official Facebook fan page for the Sony Ericsson txt pro.

Sony Ericsson Receives Reviews from FCC

As the name suggests, the Sony Ericsson txt pro unlocked was mainly targeted toward those that text on a regular basis. It has a slide out keyboard similar to that of the sidekick, and is laid out in a way that should make texting intuitive and easy to do. This is something that a number of manufacturers have done in recent months. Creating niche-based phones for certain subsets of users, allows them to make cheap phones that still appeal to the users that they are looking to target. The Sony Ericsson txt pro has been fairly efficient this. The phone also has a GSM 850/1900 bands that will make it compatible with both AT&T and T-Mobile. However, the phone could be limited to those carriers and may not see a release on other carriers at any point in the near future. It will be interesting to see Sony Ericsson releases another version of the Sony Ericsson txt pro should this one become popular. It is based toward a subset of younger individuals, most likely high school-age, so we may not know the full ramifications of the release of the device and the new school year.

  • Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Review
Posted on March 15, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Sony Ericsson has announced a number of devices that have been highly anticipated since the original announcements. The unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is one that has received a lot of attention since it was first announced but has not received quite as much attention as the XPERIA Play that was announced just over a year ago. The design of the Arc is very sleek - if you were to describe it in one word. It features an inward curvature that is meant to mimic the shape of the human hand. It is very comfortable to hold for long periods of time. The width of the phone is just 8.7 millimeters.

The front keys on the phone are physical and are not touch screen, which has produced some problems with phones in the past. This makes it easy to hit them without having to physically look at the phone, which was a problem with the X10 and Vivaz U8a unlocked, which were previously released.

The phone will not have any kind of video calling functionality, despite the fact that it was included in Google’s Android 2.3, which is the software that the phone is running. Although this is not a huge feature lack, it could keep some users from going with the Arc when there are other devices available that make use of the video calling function that is included in Android 2.3.

Typing on the touchscreen keyboard is not all that hard. The buttons are large, and the touch screen is quite accurate. In test runs, there were not a lot of mistakes found when typing, but as with any smart phone it can be difficult to always hit the right areas on the phone when texting quickly.

The price of the unlocked Xperia Arc will depend heavily on the plan that you choose. It is another solid offering from Sony Ericsson who is looking to step up their number of mid-tier smart phone offerings this year and offer more to mid-range budget users.

  • The first commercial for the XPERIA Play has made its way online in recent days, just in time for some Superbowl action. The unlocked cell phone is one that Sony Ericsson has not publicly acknowledged since it was first announced online. The new Xperia play commercial shows the Android logo getting a back room procedure to give it thumbs, presumably so that it can use the controller interface for the XPERIA Play.

The commercial did not give any information about the pricing or release date of the phone. But, the fact that they are starting to push and promote it means that you can probably expect some information to come out at the MWC in just a few weeks.

The XPERIA Play has had a number of videos leak of it being used. Of course, the phones and devices in the video are probably just prototypes, and with the hype surrounding the phone you can expect the specs to be bulked up. As of right now, all signs point to the unconfirmed specs being a 1 GHZ Qualcomm Snapdrogon processor, a slide out controller with joysticks for playing the games, a 5 megapixel camera that can record HD video quality, and a large 4 inch touchscreen that should be great for playing your favorite games from the recently announced Sony game marketplace.

So far Sony has not given out much information regarding the potential games that you could see for the device, but it is believed that PSP games might be added to their Sony Game Suite for the launch of the XPERIA Play. The game suite will also reportedly feature a number of different third party games, specifically designed for Android devices such as Xpeia X10 unlocked. Expect more details about the device to become available in the coming week, especially with the first commercial leaked.

  • Sony Ericsson announced today that their highly popular Unlocked Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 phone would no longer be receiving anymore updates to the Android operating system from here on out. This announcement was met by wrath for many XPERIA X10 users who have already made it clear that they have had a problem with the slow upgrading process that has been seen through many of their releases so far.

You would think with the past criticisms that the team has had to face that they would be more apt to upgrade some of their current releases. Their slow upgrading process has been a problem for many of their users, and the company has shown no willingness to go above and beyond expectations with their current upgrading model. Hopefully they will reconsider their decision and will upgrade the Xperia X10 software past Android 2.1, where it currently sits.

The company argued in their tweet that the features that were included in the 2.1 update for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Unlocked were on par, and may even exceed those of a basic 2.2 installation. Of course, anyone who followed the update knows that this is not true in many areas and seems to be a bit of a cop out by the company. This caused outrage among their loyal customers. the problem was not only that they weren't going to be updating the phone in a timely fashion - again, it was mostly that the company seemed to announce that the move wouldn't be made for all of the wrong reasons.

There is no doubt that the company will have to address the issue again the future, based on the response that they have received thus far. With the slow roll out of updates, Sony seems to have demonstrated that their phones will, in most cases, not be willing to budge on the issue of updates. They can be a bit tricky to handle between models, and they seem to be focusing more on releasing new, updated phones rather than worry about the updating process of older phones.

  • It has been finally announced that Nokia Siemens has indeed purchased Motorola’s network equipment division. $1.2 billion is not bad considering the fact that they will now be in quite a good position in North America to steadily grow in the market. The purchase will raise a few eyebrows as it really puts them in a really strong position.

New York Times ran a story saying that this purchase was not a sudden decision but the conclusion of a long drawn out effort to compete against the likes of Unlocked  Ericsson phone and Huawei of China. They have been repeatedly thwarted in their effort to be able to claim a position such as this and finally they have succeeded by buying the Motorola network equipment division.

The acquisition might prove to be a very valuable one as it gives Nokia Siemens a stronghold in the market of North America. It had failed on two auctions in the past and this acquisition ends that drought. Although, the two companies who had beaten Nokia Siemens in the past are having to pay more annual revenue than Nokia Siemens has to pay for the Motorola business. Nokia Siemens has really met tough competitors in North America but this move will hopefully be crucial for them. A separate venture might be just the perfect choice for Nokia Siemens after this purchase. The competitive market in North America is really not the place for the way to do business which is conducive to Nokia Siemens. So, a split would be advisable after they have purchased the Motorola division.

This purchase may catapult them to new heights but they have to be cautious in the way they approach this move. They can have steady influence in the market but it has to be well planned out. Only time will tell how influential would this purchase be.

  • Qt Developer Network Launched
Posted on July 21, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Qt has quietly launched the Qt Developer Network in Beta and offers the usual content such as blogs, wiki, forums and Fads that are available in any standard site for developers. But reading the blogs available in the site, you get to learn that in the near future they have plans of including Ovi account integration, groups, eLearning content, a books section and videos on your phone. All this is said to be done with the clear intention of bringing more developers on board.

Nokia, the owner of Qt has taken a different route with this approach because clearly it was earlier thought to be unlikely of the electronics mogul to create a separate site for its developers, one which is not part of the Nokia Forum although it still remains to be on Nokia’s domain. Now there might be an answer as to why Nokia decided to make the site go solo. Although nothing can be said with surety, Nokia has some strategies one of which is the “attract developers” strategy which is all very complex but might be where the answer to the above question lies. The two platforms that Qt supports namely the Symbian and MeeGo has other licensees such as Sony Ericsson Unlocked handsets, but these users linking articles on a site that has brand Nokia all over it like the Forum Nokia, is unthinkable. This is the closest that one can guess to be the reason behind Nokia’s innovative decision.

Since the Qt supports and works on two platforms-the Symbian and the MeeGo and also works on smartphones running other operating systems along with this, Nokia has high expectations surrounding this venture and sources from inside the company also says that they expect to dominate developer site market with this venture. But that again is a different story and only the future will tell what is in store for them.
