  • Griffin Moto TC Monster Truck for iPhone iPad iPod

In our mobile accessory of the week feature, we often review practical and handy accessories that simplify your daily life. But this week, we've left the grown-up world behind to focus instead on a fun new gadget that'll make you feel like a kid again, with a spotlight on Griffin's Moto TC Monster Truck.

It doesn't matter whether you're 5 or 55, this remote controlled truck is pretty hard to resist. And it'll probably be the coolest piece of tech to hit your life since the iPhone, iPad or iPod you use to control it. Just imagine ripping down the office hallway with this thing or tearing up the living room, and you'll get the picture.

Basically, this awesome little gadget works by using your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch as a remote, via a free app that lets you "wreak havoc," from your touchscreen.

Definitely not the remote-controlled car of your childhood, the controls for this baby are pretty sweet: You can maneuver by touch, using a virtual steering wheel, or by motion, when you tilt your device to steer. Or, slide your fingers across your display to direct the truck.

You can even pre-program routes, like figure-eights and track loops or "record your own trail of destruction and relive the madness."

As for specs, this is one truck that's designed to go anywhere. It's got a high-clearance chassis with knobby tires and four-wheel independent suspension. And you don't have to worry about batteries, since it's powered by an internal rechargeable NiMH battery pack.

Sure, it may not be a total necessity for your responsible, adult life. But this awesome little truck is one of the most fun and coolest accessories for iPhone (or any other device for that matter) that you can find. As its maker Griffin aptly notes: "Anyone can fling birds at pigs. But do you have what it takes to tame the Moto TC Monster?"

  • Iron Man Mark VII Case for iPhone 5 from Brando Iron Man Mark VII Case for iPhone 5 from Brando

Apple's design signature has long been about minimalism, elegance, subtlety, and bulging superhero six-packs – wait, what? Oh, we're sorry. We got distracted for a moment there by one of the craziest (silliest?) iPhone 5 accessories we've seen yet. Behold the Iron Man Mark VII iPhone 5 case from Brando.

With an April release promised, this in-your-face accessory is modeled after the Marvel comics superhero Iron Man, A.K.A. Tony Stark. To be sure, this definitely won't impress iPhone aficionados who love their devices' sleek, understated design.

Brando_marvel_Iron_Man_Mark_VII_iPhone_5_Case Brando's Iron Man Mark VII iPhone 5 Case: the antithesis of subtlety

But it may just impress die-hard Iron Man fans. After all, its look is a pretty close imitation of  the character's red and gold body armor, and it even comes with a built-in battery-powered LED arc reactor. Now that's something you definitely won't get from average iPhone cases and skins.

Though as far as iPhone cases go, it's on the low end when it comes to practicality. You've got to flip open a panel just to use the camera, and the overall design is pretty bulky and doesn't seem to have much in the way of grip.

We won't go so far as calling this fairly ridiculous case "obscene," as did Gizmodo, but we will label it as gaudy. Bulky, over-engineered, impractical and lacking in all subtlety, it goes against pretty much everything Apple strives for in designs like the iPhone 5.

However, it's more or less exactly what Tony Stark's all about. Flashy, loud and attention grabbing, it's the cell phone accessories equivalent of a spoiled, rich boy genius/self-made superhero.

Again, the Iron Man Mark VII case will only be released next month, so we can't speak to how tough this iPhone 5 accessory really is. But clad in Iron Man's armored physique, you phone will at least look strong.
