  • Dell Venue Pro Reveal - Bulky, But Solid
Posted on February 18, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Dell Venue Pro unlocked is a phone that has been highly anticipated since it was first announced, and is easily one of the bigger high powered smart devices on the market. The display is AMOLED, has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and has a physical screen size of 4.10 inches, which should be more than enough to work with. Along with the touch screen technology, there is also a slide out keyboard that is one of the better QWERTY keyboards that have been offered with a top tier smart phone in recent memory.

The processor is a Snapdragon 1000 MHz phone that features 512 MB of RAM and runs on the smooth Windows Phone 7 Operating System. The new operating system is unbelievably smooth, but does lack some of the key features (including multi-tasking) that have been available for other operating systems for quite some time.

The phone weighs more than 180 grams, which makes it a lot heavier than both the iPhone 4 unlocked and Nexus S, which are each at least 40 grams lighter. This is a bit of a gift and a curse in regards to the Dell Venue Pro. While the extra weight might be annoying to some users, the fact of the matter is that the phone is sturdier as a result and will likely be able to solve some fairly moderate falls that might claim the lives of other high powered mobile devices.

The power button on the phone is sort of awkwardly placed, which is a minor issue that you should be able to easily look past and only focus on the positives of the Dell Venue Pro, which overall is one of the most solid smart phones that the company has offered throughout their history. The Unlocked Dell Venue Pro is a great device that should serve as the standard for future Dell releases.

  • The Unlocked Acer Liquid Metal is the most recent smart phone offering from Acer and has been a highly anticipated device for a good reason - it has a robust feature list that make it ideal for users that are looking to get a top of the line phone without having to pay top of the line prices. The Acer Liquid Metal is easily one of the best devices that the company has offered.

It will utilize the Qualcomm 7230 800 MHz processor that will allow you to navigate through the phone at a lighting fast rate. Along with the great processor, the phone will use Android Froyo Version 2.2, which reportedly allows devices to browse from one screen to another nearly five times as quick. The internet features have also been upgraded, including a new browser that has the flash support that was mysteriously missing in earlier versions of the device and a Social Jogger app that allows you to easily aggregate your Facebook and Twitter fees for one streamlined feed that allows you to easily keep up with the updates from all of your friends and family.

Along with the great additions to the surfing power of the device, it will also feature a 5 mega pixel camera (with LED flash) that will allow you to record HD video at 720p, or what translates to 30 frames per second. The Liquid Metal will also allow you to use the enhanced high resolution videos and play them straight through the device, which features an HDMI out port that makes it easy for you to play the videos that you record directly through the television.

All in all, the Acer Liquid Metal Unlocked handset is a great offering that has stepped its game up in nearly every aspect since it was first released. The phone is constantly updating the audio technology, surfing abilities and specs that have made it one of the most highly anticipated phones on the market since it was first announced.

  • Pac-Man, Twitter, and iPhone Team Up
Posted on February 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The unlocked iPhone 4 app store certainly is not suffering from a small amount of Twitter clients. In fact, the app store seems to be littered with so many Twitter clients that it can be hard to sift through them all and find one that suits your needs. However, there is a new Twitter application that might be a little bit hard for some die hard gaming suers to pass up.

The application, from NamcoBandai was released in Japan and is called Pac’N TWIT. The application is a Japanese Pac-Man playable game that also allows you to access the Twitter features while you play. This should allow you to effectively pass some time while using the app. It is currently free, and is also translated into both English and French, but is currently only available in the Japanese App store. If the app finds a good amount of popularity, you can expect it to bridge the gap to the app stores of other languages as well.

At the very least it is a refreshing take on Twitter clients, which have run rampant in recent months. The ability to play Pac Man (and supposedly soon, other games) while you use Twitter will help you to pass time while keeping up with all of your followers and followees. Pac-Man recently saw resurgence in popularity when Google made a version playable on their homepage, in place of their usual location of their logo. The game was one of the most searched terms online for over a week, and it became clear tat there is a huge demand for apps that support Pac-Man play, even though the game, at this point, is more than 30 years old.

If the app does well in the Japanese app store, which it is expected to, then you will find that the app may quickly expand to other app stores as well.

  • Samsung Offers Hands On For Galaxy Tab
Posted on February 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 got a lot of attention at the World Mobile Congress, and hands on events were given to all of the major blogs within the space. The device is an amazing tablet, and may be the nicest on the market. The dimensions are ideal for tablet use, and the device itself looks great.

It comes with a 10.1 inch screen and a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution display. The rear facing camera is eight megapixel, making it more powerful than most camera phones on the market. It also has a 2 megapixel front facing camera that will allow you to video chat with loved ones and friends. It runs on a Tegra 2 processor, and will run on Android 3.0. Since Android 3.0 is still in its development stage, you can bet that things will be ironed out and the device will run even faster once the software version is finalized.

The refresh rate of the screens was great, and no lag was noticeable. Although Honeycomb is not released yet, it looks as though it will be a great operating system that should meet the demands of just about an tablet out there.

The 10 inch form factor screen is the perfect size for a tablet and makes it easy to transport from one location to another. the smooth design, perfect size and high powered specs have made the Samsung Galaxy Tab unlocked highly anticipated since it was first announced - and for a good reason - it is an excellent device that should compete with the iPad and other big tablet devices in the coming weeks and months. The eight megapixel camera surpasses expectations and the front facing camera seals the deal.

  • In this unlocked cell phone world, most take electricity for granted, until they go camping or the power goes out. Everyone has been placed in situations when they are stuck with a dead phone and have no way to charge it. Imagine never having to subject yourself to situations like that one again when you use the Umeox Apollo, which is a solar powered phone.

The device was announced at the Mobile World Congress. There have been a number of previously released solar powered devices that also run on Android in the past, but never has one of these phones been as outwardly impressive as the Umeox Apollo.

So far there is no information on whether or not it will even be released in the United States or anywhere in North America. The Chinese manufacturer has remained tight lipped about the phone. Some rumors have stated that the company is working on two different versions of the phone including one that will work in the US and support 850/1900 MHz bands (which would allow the phone to work with AT&T), and one version that would allow the phone to work in Europe and Asia.

The specs of the phone are a bit underpowered. It will feature a 3.2” 320x480 Display, with over a gigabyte of storage inside the phone as well as a microSD card slot.

The phone will also come with a three megapixel rear camera, which is a bit underpowered given the current market. The company did warn users not to kill the battery completely. Charging for daily usage would only need about 2.5 hours of sun light, if the phone is sitting in the sun and not being used. However, after completely dying, the phone would need about 17 hours to charge.

  • iOS 4.3 Coming Mid February
Posted on February 9, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The newest version of iOS, iOS 4.3 for unlocked iphone 4 will be launching on February 14th, according to a number of different sources. So far, Google has had a pretty standard operation in terms of the development of the newest version. They have been releasing a new version of the iOS platform about once every two weeks. With the final beta version seemingly upon us, you can expect the company to release the software for all to use sometime next week.

Apple has remained silent about when users can expect the official launch to come, likely for fear that other bugs would be discovered and they would not meet their original plan. All that you can know now is that Apple will release the software when they feel it is ready.

It looks as thought they are hoping to release the update close to Valentines Day, which could be a bad thing for those of us that are looking to play with the features. Playing with the phone on Valentines Day will not make the wife happy, but for some of us could be worth in the long run.

A few different rumors have been leaked so far, pinning the release date either earlier or later in the week depending. It will be interesting to see how and when the software is finally launched. iOS 4.3 for iphone 4 unlocked and ipads has been the talk of the town since word of it first made its way online several months ago, and Apple has continued to test it throughout its beta stages. It appears that the newest update could be just on the horizon, so keep your eye out for the announcement as we get closer to Valentine ’s Day. Apple has not confirmed or denied any of the rumors that have been released so far.

  • HTC Desire HD Unlocked Review
Posted on February 9, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Unlocked HTC Desire HD is a phone that has received a ton of attention from various members of the mobile community in recent weeks, since the phone was first announced. There are some very good qualities seen in the phone, which should attract a large number of users.

To start, it has a huge 4.3 inch touchscreen display, WVGA, with a 800 x 480 resolution. The screen is one of the best parts of the phone, but also may cause the battery to drain a bit quicker because of its large size. The HTC Desire HD Unlocked also comes with an 8 megapixel camera and dual LED Flash, along with 720p high quality video and a 1 GHz processor, as has become standard in the mobile industry.

The hardware is very unique. The case of the phone is made out of aluminum and has a unibody design. The case is carved out of a single piece of a light weight metal. IT feels different to the touch than cases from other phones but should provide a bit more protection than other kinds of cases. The phone also has a flawless browser, which has received rave reviews from those that have gotten to test it.

One problem noticed in the HTC Desire HD unlocked is that the camera lens is left unprotected because of the way that the case is designed. It will certainly be interesting to see how popular the phone becomes. At nearly $500 without a contract, some would argue that it is a bit pricey based on the prices of phones with similar specs in the space. Overall, the HTC Desire HD Unlocked is a great phone that continues to display the quality of devices that HTC is putting out. Its huge screen and awesome general performance make it a hot commodity.

  • The first commercial for the XPERIA Play has made its way online in recent days, just in time for some Superbowl action. The unlocked cell phone is one that Sony Ericsson has not publicly acknowledged since it was first announced online. The new Xperia play commercial shows the Android logo getting a back room procedure to give it thumbs, presumably so that it can use the controller interface for the XPERIA Play.

The commercial did not give any information about the pricing or release date of the phone. But, the fact that they are starting to push and promote it means that you can probably expect some information to come out at the MWC in just a few weeks.

The XPERIA Play has had a number of videos leak of it being used. Of course, the phones and devices in the video are probably just prototypes, and with the hype surrounding the phone you can expect the specs to be bulked up. As of right now, all signs point to the unconfirmed specs being a 1 GHZ Qualcomm Snapdrogon processor, a slide out controller with joysticks for playing the games, a 5 megapixel camera that can record HD video quality, and a large 4 inch touchscreen that should be great for playing your favorite games from the recently announced Sony game marketplace.

So far Sony has not given out much information regarding the potential games that you could see for the device, but it is believed that PSP games might be added to their Sony Game Suite for the launch of the XPERIA Play. The game suite will also reportedly feature a number of different third party games, specifically designed for Android devices such as Xpeia X10 unlocked. Expect more details about the device to become available in the coming week, especially with the first commercial leaked.

  • Microsoft knows that spam is a serious problem for those that use their Hotmail inboxes through unlocked cell phone. So far, Hotmail users have been able to add a plus sign to their usernames (john.doe+workinfo@hotmail.com) to allow them to better manage their mailbox and help to make the sender identification a bit easier on them in the long run. Microsoft said that the problem with that technique is that it made it fairly easy for spammers to figure out the actual email address that you use, and are looking for a way to keep this from happening.

Email privacy is something that has been out the window for a number of years. It is fairly easy to find nearly anyone’s email online using things like Facebook and other social networking accounts where your email address is listed.

In order to combat this, Hotmail will be allowing users to create aliases for their email. This will mean that you will not actually have to give out your actual email address at all times. This is great for stopping certain companies from sharing your information with one another.

I think most of us can relate to having an inbox go from pristine to spam out of commission in just a few short months after giving out your address to the wrong people. The aliases will allow you to send certain emails straight to the spam box. So, if you are signing up for a service and want to check out the user interface, just give them your alias email, check the confirmation in your spam inbox and then never have to deal with the hordes of emails sent to you following that. This is a feature that will help many to manage their inbox in ways that they never could before.

  • Nokia Chatr Now Only $88
Posted on February 8, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Nokia Chatr C3 has seen its price drop for the first time since the phone was first released. The phone will now be available for just &88 without a contract in Best Buy locations across North America. The purchase will also include a Bluetooth Headset, which will save you $12 since you made the purchase directly through Chatr.

The service also recently changed their pricing structure on place for six months. These plans will now only cost $25 and $35 per month, dropping a total of $10 since the device was first released.

The Unlocked Nokia (C3) at Chatr has not been all that popular of a phone since it was first released, but has received rave reviews. The phone allows you to get both Facebook and Twitter updates right on the home screen of your phone and has a unique picture-calling feature that allows you to click on the face or picture of those that you would like to call or text instead of having to go through the contact list options to make all of the calls.

As with many smart phones, the Nokia C3 will also allow you to email, chat and place music on the hard drive for later listening. The size of the screen is just 2.4 inches and has a resolution of 320 x 240. It has been a quite popular phone because of its affordability and ease of use for consumers who were not looking to shell out the money for a top of the line smart device. It will be interesting to see if the price of the Nokia C3 from Chatr continues to drop any lower. This is the first time that we have seen the price fall, but one would not go as far as to say that the price drop was unexpected by those that were following the life of the phone.
