Motorola released a video to the blogs today that they called the “Tablet Evolution,” which turned out to be a teaser video for the upcoming announcements that will be taking place at CES 2011. The video was very straight forward and to the point, at one point they even refer to the iPad as a “giant unlocked iPhone 4,” and the boxing gloves come out.
Motorola has made it no secret that they are taking aim at the iPad, which was able to secure a large portion of the tablet market with their early release. The teaser video starts by showing some of the various tablets, even those that date back to Mayan times, showing hieroglyphics and other ancient scriptures.
Then, at the end of hthe video we see that iPad, which they say “is like a giant iPhone,” followed by the Samsung Galaxy Tab Unlocked, along with some words about the features of the device. It was an interesting video that will cause quite a stir in the mobile community. It isn’t all that surprising that Motorola attacked Apple in the ad, but it is surprising that they did it so blatantly, accusing them of re-branding their iPhone and releasing it with a larger screen.
The device will have the next version of Android that has not even been announced at this time. With the recent leak of a picture of the tablet with a Verizon logo on it, things seem to be finally heating up in the tablet section of the mobile market.
Apple certainly won’t take the attacks lightly, and will probably fight back with some weak shots of their own. Only time will tell how well the Motorola tablet PC does, but the way they are marketing it seems like we are gearing up for a face off between the iPad and the Galaxy Tab.
