Siemens is one of the world's largest technology companies. A German electronics and electrical engineering giant, Siemens designs and produces electrical and electronic systems in a number of areas including energy and power, and health care.
In 2005, it was announced that the Siemens mobile phones subsidiary was acquired by BenQ. The new business group, BenQ Mobile, unveiled the new BenQ-Siemens brand as part of a strategy to assert BenQ’s position in the mobile handsets industry. The partnership benefits from each companies' respective expertise in R&D, design, customer reach and manufacturing.
The partnership became the 6th largest company in the mobile phones industry by accumulated market share. Mobile phones of the new group are marketed under the new BenQ-Siemens brand.
In September 2006, BenQ Mobile filed for bankruptcy.
