With the release of the Unlocked IPhone 4 a few days ago, many developers and phone manufacturers have now started paying attention and worrying that their sales would drop. However, one manufacturer that does not worry about the iPhone 4 is that of Sprint as according to the Chief Financial Officer of the Company, while the iPhone might have certain features that stand out against other manufacturers, HTC’s EVO 4G, carried by Sprint, can hold its own and prevent current users from flocking to the iPhone. There might be some truth in this considering EVO is the first 4G mobile launched in the country.
Says Robert Brust, Sprint’s CFO, “We know that with the launch of the iPhone from Apple there is an air of worry with many manufacturers, but Sprint is not one of them as our EVO 4G is the first such phone in the nation. We also expect our end of year results to be much better than last year.”
“Every year when there is a new introduction in the market from Apple, most U.S carriers wonder ‘what if’- What if our customers leave us and decide to go in for the iPhone. As people’s contracts tend to expire, one expects that they will change over to AT&T’s iPhone,” says Brust. Last year it was stated that the Sprint Palm Pre would be able to overcome the effect of the iPhone which was not the case. However, according to Brust, the Pre was a phone for those that did not want the iPhone, whereas the HTC Unlocked ( EVO 4G ) is a good option instead of the iPhone.
This might be true as the EVO 4G is simply stunning as apart from the battery life, the display, responsiveness and speed of the device were lauded. It seems that Sprint is not the only one excited about the EVO 4G as sales of the phone have increased within the last week.
