Verizon Wireless is the first major U.S. carrier to announce details on a data sharing plan. Verizon is calling theirs “Share Everything Plans”, which package shared voice minutes, text messages and data. Smartphones, tablets and feature phones are all eligible devices.

Verizon Wireless wants to “Share Everything” with customers

Share Everything Plans include unlimited minutes, unlimited texting, video and picture messaging, and a data allowance for up to 10 Verizon Wireless devices.  In addition, the Mobile Hotspot service for all wireless devices is included.

Costs start at $30 per device for basic cell phones and $40 per device for smartphones. 1GB of shared data will run $50 per month and include unlimited voice calling and text messaging.

For $100 plus the monthly fees for each device, up to 10GB of data per month can be shared between devices. Unlimited voice and SMS are included.

“Customers asked, and today Verizon Wireless delivered an industry first,” said Tami Erwin, vice president and chief marketing officer at Verizon Wireless. “Share Everything Plans are the new standard for wireless service.” Verizon Wireless’s Share Everything plans become available on June 28th. Both existing and new customers are eligible.

  • Verizon Wireless recently released a statement on their website announcing that users would now be provided a more improved expansion of its FiOS DVR mobile applications. With immediate effect, Motorola Milestone Unlocked DROID phones would be capable of downloading and running the Remote FiOS TV Mobile application. Mobile phones such as the Droid Eris, Droid Incredible and TouchPro2 from HTC would now have the ability of acting as remote controls for their FiOS DVR televisions. It was also stated by Verizon that this remote DVR application could be run on over 50 different Verizon Wireless handsets. Through the use of this FiOS DVR application, users would have the ability of controlling their FiOS DVR, schedule recordings, check the TV guide as well as delete any old items present. These applications are completely free to download as well.

This free application has been made available by Verizon Wireless to users in the Android market. Through the use of this application, named Verizon FiOS Mobile, it becomes possible for users to go ahead and remotely program their FiOS DVRs through Wi-Fi carriers. In fact, it is also possible for users to browse different TV programs and view an entire list of schedules. While in the past the FiOS DVRs released by Verizon gave users the ability of watching whatever they wanted, it has now become much more accessible for mobile users to control their DVR’s right through their mobile phone. This in turn results in Verizon customers never having to miss out on their favorite programs simply because they will now have the capability of recording their favorite television shows wherever they may be.  With this latest development by Verizon, it becomes possible for users to set their DVRs to start recording any program, anytime.

Customers were always able to watch whatever they wanted due to Verizon FiOS DVRs. Now this has been taken a step forward through the implementation of an application for mobiles that allows users to program their DVRs for future recordings right from their unlocked mobile phones.

  • It had already been speculated that both Sprint and Verizon Wireless would eventually pick up RIM’s hot new BlackBerry Bold 9650 smartphone.  It appears that these speculations are starting to become facts as Sprint has recently announced that the BlackBerry Bold 9650 will be hitting store shelves on May 23rd.  Sprint customers who are clamoring over the BlackBerry device will be able to purchase this new mobile device for $199.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and 2 year contract.

BlackBerry 9630 Tour Black Sprint Unlocked GSM Cellular Phone

This new BlackBerry device has several great features that will be sure to tempt any BlackBerry fan.  The new Bold 9650 is set to come with a 480 x 360 resolution display, BlackBerry OS 5, WiFi module and a 3.2 megapixel camera.  With specs like these it easy to see why various networks would want to pick up this device.  It is sure to be a huge hit among many smartphone users and BlackBerry customers.

It looks like Sprint is going to be getting the leg up on its competition by being the first cell phone provider to offer the new BlackBerry Bold 9650.  With a bevy of unique features the Bold 9650 figures to quickly become one of the better selling BlackBerry mobile devices, like the BlackBerry Storm 2.  I am sure that other cell phone providers will quickly follow suit once they see what kind of success Sprint will surely have with this new device.  Even at the sort of pricey point of $199 after mail in rebate this new BlackBerry phone is sure to be a best seller for both Sprint and BlackBerry.

  • Verizon Wireless recently announced that it will open its own mobile phone applications store on March 29th.  The announcement was made this week at the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas.  This is an interesting move by Verizon as they are entering an already well established market.  Rival companies such as Apple and Google currently already operate their own versions of app stores for the iPhone and various Android based phones.

The aspect of the Verizon app store that is going to be different and hopefully will differentiate Verizon from their competitors is the ability to pay for apps using your cell phone bill instead of having to create a new account for the app store.  Currently the way the other app stores works is that a consumer will need to set up an entirely new account to use with the app store and are billed separately.  With Verizon’s new store users will be able to make purchases as they please and will just see the charges appear on their monthly cell phone bill which will make paying for the new apps a breeze from your unlocked cell phone.
With big name brands already entrenched in the mobile app store market it will be interesting to see how Verizon makes their initial splash.  I will be interested to see how the ability to pay for the apps with your monthly cell phone bill will be received by current Verizon consumers.  It certainly does seem to make it much easier to browse the app store and make purchases when all you need to do is confirm your purchase.  However, after an initial account set up this is how the other app stores work so there will not be that much difference between the three big app stores.

  • Recently Verizon Wireless and Skype have announced that they will be joining forces and offer Skype’s application to unlocked mobile phone users over the wireless 3G network.  With this easy to use offer Verizon 3G customers who have a data plan can use Skype mobile to:

    -          Make and receive unlimited Skype to Skype voice calls to any Skype user around the globe.

    -          Call international numbers at competitive Skype Out calling rates

    -          Send and receive instant messages to other Skype users

    -          Remain always connected with the ability to see friends’ online presence

With this new feature Verizon Wireless is basically extending their customer’s unlimited calling community to anyone who uses Skype around the globe.  With Skype quickly becoming one of the most popular instant messaging and VoIP programs on the internet this partnership is a great move for both Skype and Verizon Wireless to help grow the Skype brand.

Since many people will want to be continuously connected to their Skype conversations and friend list having the ability to carry these conversations on your mobile phone, like the Sony Ericsson Aspen, is a very logical step.  Also, since Verizon Wireless will be rolling out this partnership over the 3G network there should be great reliability for anyone who will be using the Skype platform for their competitive international calling rates.

It will be interesting to see if any of the other mobile phone carries follow in Verizon’s footsteps and add Skype’s features to their network in the near future.
