  • Despite the old cliché that men do not ever asked for directions, recent stats regarding the most used apps by both men and women show that men typically look for directions more than women do. This comes as a bit of a surprise to those that were expecting other popular applications to rank higher with men. The application data shows that men typically download Google maps more than any other application for their mobile device such as unlocked Samsung Captivate, Samsung Infuse, etc.. . A Google map is then followed by Gmail, which is followed by Facebook and then Google search. All of these different applications all have over 70%, with YouTube coming in the next spot with just over 50%.

Google Maps Top Android Application For Men

The numbers look drastically different when you take women into account. The most downloaded application for women is the Facebook application, being the only application other than the in-flight marketplace that has more than 80% active reach. It shows that women like to be more social with other applications. In second place for the women is Gmail. In third place for the women as Google maps, followed by Google search with YouTube coming in just below 50%.

This shows that men typically use their devices more for entertainment, while women typically use their devices more for social interaction with other people. This is a growing trend that has become one of the most interesting analysis pieces that we have seen in regards to apps for men and women. It is interesting to see just how the two differ from one another in terms of the types of apps that they more typically download and utilize. Other popular apps that were downloaded by both include Pandora radio, Angry Birds, the weather Channel, twitter, and Google+ had climbed above popular applications such as Adobe reader and barcode scanner among men.

  • Logitech was recently seen hiring Android developers for what they described as a ground breaking upcoming release. While it is not currently clear whether or not this is the groundbreaking release they referenced, the company is releasing a new Squeezebox app for Android users such as unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, LG Eve GW620, etc  that will allow users to remotely control their Squeezebox. The app will utilizes a Wi-Fi connection and will allow users to use all of the usual controls that were not previously available in remote format.

The app will also utilize the album artwork for whatever music you are playing at the current time. It will be interesting to see if htis is the groundbreaking release that they previously referenced. The app will only be available for Android 2.1 or later. The app will reportedly work with the Squeezebox Touch, Squeezebox Boom and Squeezebox Duet.

The app is already available in the market, and more details can be found on the Logitech website, outlining all of the different uses that are included in the application. A full description is available there as well. It is good to see Logitech releasing applications for the Squeezebox which is a device that has received a lot of press over the course of the last few months, and many users were eagerly awaiting the release of an official remote app, since the device primarily works as an end-table music provider.

Now Logitech fans can start speculating about the hiring of the android developers. The description of the job on their website seemed to suggest a much larger project than a simple remote app, but the company has not had many releases within the Android market so this could be the project that they were referencing after all. Logitech will probably not publicly address the issue, especially if this is not the project that they were referencing.

  • The Samsung Unlocked Phone “SCH-1520” is a handset without a name. To most, that might make it a Little less ape paling, but that certainly doesn’t mean that it doesn’t come with a host of features that most would love to have for the price of the phone. The best part about the phone is obviously the display. Its 4.3 inch touch screen display is among the best out there, with a beautiful AMOLED display that makes every screen look unbelievably crisp and sharp.

The phone also comes with a 1 GHz processor as well as an 8 megapixel rear facing camera, and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. This will enable the phone to partake in the various video chat apps that are available for Android 2.2, the software that the phone will run on. So while you have to feel kind of bad for a phone that is referred to by its model number, or simply as the “Samsung 4G LTE Smartphone” as Verizon referred to it in their press release, you can’t say that they skimped on the features this time around.

Although the focus of the hand set should be on the excellent Super AMOLED Plus screen that delivers everything in crystal clear clarity, it also has a wonderful design that make it easy to hold, use, and comfortable in the hand. These, combined with the fact that the phone boasts a completely open HDMI out port have made it an unlikely hit at the Consumer Electronics Show this year. It will be interesting to see how the phone continues to gain popularity as more become aware of the great features, despite the fact that it does not yet have a name. The phone is expected to be released during the first two quarters of 2011, so expect it to have some sort of official branding here soon.

  • Apple Looks to Hire for iOS Development
Posted on December 21, 2010 by Pure Mobile

It looks as though apple might be gearing up to take a run at the infamous Google Maps app for iOS devices like unlocked iphone 4, ipad & ipod. A recent job posting to their website calls for individuals with “computational geometry or graph theory,” as well as individuals that have substantial experience with navigation software. The company could be developing something else, but with the popularity of Google maps on the iOS platform and the very open competition between the companies, it looks as though they might be taking a page out of Google’s book and developing their own branded solution that will be eerily similar to something that is already out there on the market.

With a little bit of guesswork you can see that Apple might be looking to integrate some sort of GPS app into the future updates for the platform. They certainly know how much these types of things can generate, with so many of their most successful apps being related to GPS features.

Apple has not made any announcement regarding what the hiring could mean. Of course, anything is possible and they could be developing something completely different that we have not heard of yet. There was one previous occasion when the company brought some navigation experts on board, and nothing really ever came of it. It looks as though they might be willing to give that project a second shot, now that they have a new phone out and a software update that would allow them to focus on other features for a small period of time.

Google has yet to comment on the possibility that Apple could be looking to invade on the space that Google Maps occupies, but likely would not be happy to learn. Google is never a stranger to competition, and constantly releases solutions to compete with other brands, but now it looks as though they will get a taste of their own medicine.

  • FCC looking to accept 911 texting
Posted on November 25, 2010 by Pure Mobile

With texting becoming increasingly popular across the globe among the unlocked cell phone users, the FCC is now taking a look at how viable 911 texts would be in situations of emergency. Of course, this could potentially pose a number of problems, but if the system were not abused it could help save lives. There are plenety of situations where someone may want to silently contact 911 in order to receive help without alerting individuals around them that they are doing so.

For instance, if someone were in your house it would make a lot of sense to hide and text 911 rather than to call and risk being heard. Or, if you were running from someone and didn't have time to stop and talk, you could send a text in order to keep moving.

As of right now, it is not clear if they will expand their 911 services to include text messages. Any widespread roll out of the feature would likely require quite a bit of testing to ensure that the system works correctly and is not abused. The FCC is also reportedly looking into receiving MMS with streaming video and pictures so that you can more accurately describe your location or give the operator an idea of what police or medical officials can expect as they arrive on the scene.

It will be interesting to see if they adopt this practice. It is a good idea, but may not be as practical as expected and might actually cause more confusion and problems than the current system does, which requires that you call for help. If successful,t he program could potentially save quite a few lives.

  • Back in September, Apple announced their new social networking site called Ping.  The concept of this site is that people would get on there and be able to discuss music with others.  They could follow people to see what they were listening to, and they can also follow different artists to check out the new songs that they released.  It would basically be a variation of Facebook, Twitter, and iTunes combined.  You would get to meet other people, mostly based on having similar tastes in music.  I think that this is a pretty good concept; however, it really did not take off right off the bat.  Even in the past month or so, over a year after it was released, it still remains widely unknown about.

Obviously, there are some other main features about Ping as well other than just getting to know people.  Another feature, just like in ITunes, is that you can easily buy music by going to an artists’ fan page.  The people that have used Ping on unlocked iphone 4 have reported that buying music on this social networking site requires minimal to no effort.  This is a really good sign for people that may want to switch over.  Also, being on Ping pretty much means that you could get rid of ITunes as well.  The only downside is that it does not have as many artists’ as ITunes has – yet.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs sent out an email the other day to all of his iTunes users letting people know about his social networking site.  He reported that Ping already has millions of users and that it is growing fast.  Many could be quite skeptical of his growing fast comment though since he had to send out this e-mail.  However, this does sound like a social networking site to look into.

  • In the Unlocked cell phone world, there has been news that the FCC has approved the Dell Venue.  This has caused confusion among many people who are anxious to buy a new phone.  What exactly will people have to look forward to when the Dell Venue is released?  The last thing they want is a rehash of another phone, something that many manufacturers have been getting away with.  True, new cell phone users might not mind a phone that is a carbon copy of something else, but experienced buyers want phones that are unique.

Now some cell phone users are flocking to Microsoft’s website to determine the usefulness of the Dell Venue.  This will provide very basic information, but it does not give you an inside view.  Remember, retailers are always going to give a biased opinion about their products.  Their main goal is to sell, not to necessarily provide the best value.  And if you cannot see through the hype, you might be tempted to buy a phone that is not worth its investment.  This could mean wasting hundreds of dollars, depending on how much the phone costs.

To relieve yourself of this problem, you should read reviews from everyday, ordinary people who have nothing to lose if you do not like the phone.  Through such reviews, you will get a better understanding of not only the specs, but also whether or not the phone is worth your time and money.

In the case of the Dell Venue, you might have trouble finding decent reviews as many bloggers focus on electronics that have already been released.  Fortunately, one blog solves this problem.  It will tell you everything you need to know about the Dell Venue, including its specs and level of uniqueness.  From this information, you will know for sure if the Dell Venue phone is best for you.
