Acer has long been a key player in the computer world. Their strong showing in the personal computer market space should have indicated a propensity to do well in the tablet market (here is an interesting inforgraphic on Tablet Takeover) the as another “endpoint segment.” So far that is not the case.
2011 saw disappointing sales for the Acer Iconia Tablet, but they are determined to persevere with tablet releases in 2012. Despite this continuation, there are rumors that Acer may be slowing its tablet production in the upcoming year. Acer’s founder, Stan Shih, did state that they are not following trend s of the rumor mill and the company is not ready to give up on tablets. Also, they will be continuing with their smartphone production and have no projects on the chopping block at the moment in contradiction of recent reports.
