RBC, a popular mobile banking provider announced the release their unlocked iPhone 4 app earlier in the day. It came as a bit of a surprise, then, when later in the day they also announced that they would be releasing a BlackBerry app as well. It was interesting that the announcements did not come at the same time, but nevertheless, the outcome in the same in the end.
The app appears to be quite useful, allowing you to check the balance of any of your accounts, transfer your funds from one account to another, pay any outstanding bills that you have, transfer money to other banks and even find the closest ATM to you.
The app has been released in both French and English. The total space that it takes up is 3 MB, and the phone is compatible with six different types of Unlocked BlackBerry devices. The company has made a demo available on their website for those of us that would like to try it out. They boast speed, safety and security in the long run.
As more banks continue to add applications for their users to manage their funds with, security has always been a big concern. RBC has stressed that they have gone to great lengths to ensure that they keep their users, and their money secure. All of the proper channels are in place to make sure that no one gains control of your account.
The company did not say in their announcement whether they were planning on releasing a version for other platforms as well. You would think that they would be interested in releasing something for Windows Phone 7 as it becomes more popular or even the Android platform, where a large number of their users probably reside. So far no substantial bugs have been reported with the RBC online mobile banking software.
