  • T-Mobile is going to be looking to offer new free signal boosters to their network in order to keep cell phone users such as unlocked Blackberry Bold 9780, HTC Wildfire, etc,, from playing. Over the course of the last few months since the company was sold to AT&T, and they are looking for ways to stop the bleeding in terms of their subscriber base. The move appears to be part of a new program that the company has released. They are looking to put an end to the service quality related cancellations that have been running rampant over the course of the last few months. They have become a significant problem within the company, and even though it looks as though they are going to be acquired pending legal look over of the process, it is not currently clear what the company is going to be able to do in order to stop this out flux of their users.

T-Mobile Looks to Offer Free Signal Boosters

Many other users are canceling their service to the poor coverage in their own home. This is something that was first leaked to the press when an internal e-mail was released that stated that this was one of the country’s biggest problems. The memo that was leaked also warned that they should not be offering signal boosters to customers when they are looking to close the sale. In order to get the signal booster the customers will need to open a new two-year service contract, which suggests that they are looking to keep these customers from canceling their service and are looking to get going on long term. It will certainly be interesting to see if they were going to be able to keep the customers from leaving as a result of that poor service in their own home T-Mobile was acquired by AT&T, but it looks as though this could not go through as the courts are looking into whether or not the acquisition was legal.

  • Research In Motion has been experiencing some difficulties over the course of the last few months. The company announced today that they will be laying off a total of 2000 employees, which accounts for about 10% of their total workforce. The company is looking to better optimize their spending, and the workforce reduction is going to be part of their strategy moving forward. They’re looking for rapid growth within the company after quadrupling their workforce over the course of the last five years. The company, most known for their line of Blackberry devices such as unlocked Torch 9800, Bold 9780, etc.. will also be reorganizing some of their top management positions in an attempt to better position themselves moving forward.

RIM to Reorganize Management and Lay Off 2,000

A number of executives recently left the company, and it is clear what they’re falling profits that they are looking to head in a different direction moving forward. Recently the company lost their vice president of digital marketing and media, as well as their Blackberry PlayBook Senior product manager. It will be interesting to see what kind of changes they made, as it could give some sort of hint as to their strategy moving forward in the future. Depending on the executives that they bring in, it could give some clues on the type of devices and the direction the company is looking to head.

RIM to Reorganize Management and Lay Off 2,000

The company also released a press release regarding their layoffs, stating that they regretted to have to do so but that it was in the best interest of the company. Many in Canada were hoping that the company would be able to turn things around and keep their current workforce, after going through a number of layoffs previously as well. It will be interesting to see if they are able to turn things around with the reorganization of their management and regain market share that they have lost two other companies in recent years.

  • Blackberry App World has officially passed the 1 billionth download throughout his career. This is something that the company had hoped to reach for quite some time. it is amazing to see that there application marketplace has grown in such a phenomenal rate over the course of the last few years. The marketplace was first officially launched on April 1, 2009, and it continued to grow wildly in popularity since that time.

BlackBerry App World Reaches 1 Billion Download Mark

Since the application marketplace was first released, the company has continued to grow in Blackberry has become one of the most renowned location to download applications for the Blackberry platform. Although the application marketplace that was put together by the company research in motion is not the biggest by any stretch of the imagination in the mobile industry, it is clear that it continues to grow along with varying amounts of Blackberry devices such as Unlocked Bold 9780, Torch 9800, etc. that we have seen over the course of the last few years. Targeted toward businesses, Blackberry has continued to become one of the world’s largest mobile devices and platforms in recent memory. The Apple app store recently passed the 15 million download mark, making it easily the largest store for applications for mobile devices online.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the Blackberry application store will reach 2 billion download mark. The 1 million download mark is a huge milestone for the company, and would really like to reach the 2 million download mark sooner than they have reached the one. The devices are currently bringing in more than 3 million downloads per day, but as research in motion continues to lose market share to other mobile companies, it may be hard for them to keep up. it will be interesting to see how long they can continue to over 3 million downloads per day for their applications for blackberry devices

  • Research In Motion continues to update their systems and offer new features to users that have been relatively feature starved until recently when they have started to rapidly expand the overall number of features that they are able to offer. Now, the company has released a new app that is already available for download in their app marketplace that is able to integrate with your calendar that is already present in your BlackBerry devices such as Bold 9780, Torch 9800 unlocked, etc. They will allow you to easily schedule and also join an already present conference call. You can see how this would be useful to users - especially their hordes of users that use their device for business purposes.

The app will likely find a good following with business users that have already been driven to the BlackBerry platform for their business needs. It will certainly be interesting to see how quickly the app rises to prominence among users. The app is great at easily scheduling and creating conference calls. They will allow provide you with a reminder notification that will pop up when you reach a scheduled conference time that you have previously scheduled.

Also, if you lose your connection to the audio conference, you will be able to rejoin with the single click of a button, which is a huge feature of the app. It will be interesting to see how quickly business users gravitate toward the scheduling features that have been provided in the app, but you can bet that some users will gravitate toward it if nothing else than for the great scheduling features and notifications that have been made available to users when they are scheduling their conference calls. This app effectively allows you to set and show up for meetings, reminding you of when you need to be in your conference call.

  • US Cellular has plans to launch a brand new 4G LTE network for unlocked cell phone users by the time the holiday season rolls around this year and will likely offer a number of new devices for their brand new network just in time for Christmas. With other companies moving quickly to roll out more powerful solutions, it appears that US Cellular does not to loose ground and will be rolling out more highly powered networks of their own to draw in more users.

Their plans were outlined and announced today. The first regions that receive the new network will be around sometime during the holiday season, with other plans stating that they would like to extend their new network across the nation. At first, only a few select cities will be receiving the upgrade. These cities could include Milwaukee, Madison and Des Moines, according to the announcement that was made today. Their initial roll out is said to cover around 25% of the US, with future updates to the network expanding their reach.

In order to use the new LTE network, you will of course need to own a device that is compatible with the LTE network. As of right now, the company is not currently offering compatible phones, but you can bet that they will find a way to release some before the network is even close to being launched, although there have been no announcements about that thus far.

US Cellular is aggressively expanding their capabilities after the competition has also done so in recent months. Look for them to quickly roll out new areas after their initial run is tested and they have a better idea of what to expect. The roll out is expected in mid to late fourth quarter of 2011.

  • BlackBerry will be launching their BlackBerry PlayBook on the 19th of April, and those who have been anxiously awaiting the tablet can breathe a sigh of relief because it looks as though Research In Motion themselves will be handling customer support for the popular tablet, much in the same way that Apple does with their devices like unlocked iPhone 4. Most of the time Research In Motion works with the carriers that sell products to get through the customer support, but are likely looking for the BlackBerry PlayBook to be a much more personal experience.

Usually, you can only get ah old of Research In Motion after you have gone through the proper carrier channels. The Wi-Fi PlayBook will be available to users at a number of different retail outlets. This is the first time that Research In Motion will serve as the first official contact point for users who are experiencing trouble with their devices.

The company is looking to implement an “Apple Care” style of support that will allow users to go directly through them. The only downside is that they lack the number of retail locations that Apple does, which could make it a little more difficult for users to get the support that they are looking for.

They will offer complimentary support for the first 90 days that the tablet will be released, and will also offer a limited warranty for every device and a BlackBerry Total Care program that will allow users to receive care for their device for as long as they are willing to pay for it once the limited warranty plan has ended. There are many different options available to people that are looking at purchasing the PlayBook and were hoping for more support. RIM is a renowned company, and new users should be excited to see if they are able to live up to their name in terms of support.

  • New MTS 4G Network
Posted on April 1, 2011 by Pure Mobile

MTS has finally launched their 4G network for unlocked cell phone such as BlackBerry Bold 9780, Unlocked Nokia N8, Samsung captivate, etc.. that the company has been talking about for quite some time. The network has been in the works for a number of months and was finally activated for users after months of planning. This is huge news for customers that have been with MTS for quite some time. This will speed up their coverage and will also allow for more advanced plans for the company moving forward.

This should provide download speeds that can reach up to 21 mega bytes per second, which will be nearly twice as fast as their previous speeds. The announcement came from the president of the company, Kevlin Shepherd, who is the usual face seen when the company makes large announcements such as this one.

In his statement, he said that they were able to upgrade their entire coverage area and will give more device options to their customers. It was a huge investment for the company but is certainly one that they are looking to pay off in the long run. It is good to see that they are dedicated to upgrading the coverage offered, and provide higher speeds.

MTS has continually upgraded their network, which directly benefits the end user.  With this most recent upgrade to 4G, they are officially up to speed with the current demands of a quickly changing industry. The press release from MTS was very detailed, and gave some insight into their future plans. The upgrade of their network will open up a number of new devices that were not previously available with MTS previously. Moving forward, look for their new phones to be announced, as well as a number of phones that will be able to run on the 4G network that was recently launched. There are many different phones that will open up to the company now that they have a 4G network.

  • The Samsung App Store for unlocked cell phone such as Samsung Captivate i897, Samsung Nexus S unlocked, etc.. has a bit of a head start over other application stores because they operate on both cell phones and on televisions, but that is not stopping the company from issuing a statement that their app store has officially passed the one hundred million download mark. The mark is a huge one that is exclusive to only a few other app stores in the industry, and even though Samsung crosses through both the mobile and television industry with their app downloads, that does not make the number any less impressive.

It has been ten months since the service first launched. It looks as though Europe is the primary downloading location for users of the Samsung app store. France had the largest number of downloads of any country, with Germany and Spain following closely behind. The three countries together combined to account for more than forty percent of the overall number of downloads from the Samsung App Store since it was first launched more than ten months ago.

The app store is currently home to more than 13,000 applications. This number is smaller than most for unlocked BlackBerry Bold 9780, Torch 9800, etc.. other app stores, but is only seven thousand apps behind the BlackBerry App World store which recently hit the 20,000 mark. The Samsung App Store has quietly grown over the course of the last few months and has become one of the more popular app providers on the Internet. It will be interesting to see if they are able to keep up their huge rate of growth moving forward, or if they will slow down as so many other app stores have. The numbers that they announced are quite large for only having been around for the last ten months, but are still not touching the numbers of some of the more popular app stores, such as the Apple iTunes app store and the Android App Marketplace.
