  • Though available in the United Kingdom since June, Dell Streak unlocked cell phone is yet to land itself in USA. But many users are not aware of what they have been missing as the Streak only runs on Android 1.6. But there is good news after all this, as it is expected that the Streak will be running on a superior version of the Operating System.

If you have already presumed that it’s the Android 2.2 Froyo, then you’re wrong. It’s the Éclair; Android 2.1– Google has the knack of coming up with catchy nicknames for their cell phone operating systems. Right now we don’t have the option to make a choice, because the Android 2.1 is after all an improvement from 1.6. Many users will be joyous about the features that the Éclair will provide them. The keyboard for example has undergone massive improvement.

The Éclair also takes social networking a notch higher as it allows users to synchronise contacts with selected social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. It is also possible to get live wallpapers, though this is not an exceptional feature, but they do promise to look good on the large display of 5 inches of the Streak.

Éclair is presumed to be loaded with the Streak, as and when it launches in the USA. It would be advisable for Dell to do that as some smartphones have by now upgraded to Froyo Operating Systems. And, the bigger version of Streak headed for us who will assumable have the Android 2.2 pre-installed, Streak has to build up the excitement to make people expect better things from Dell. The modified Streak, promising to launch in the later part of the year, I would wait and look out for what comes out of the competition.

But immediately we can only hope that the Streak comes as early as possible.

  • This may just remain speculation for now but it is important and hence we think that one should know that the Nexus One Phone has finally got the capacity to be able to record video in High Definition 720p resolution. This device will record the video on the new CyanogenMod 6 Froyo ROM which has been installed in it. The latter is actually the greater news than the HD video recording as the capability for recording video in this quality is not really new for the Nexus One but it is actually the first time that this feature is being linked with the new CM6 Android 2.2 Froyo edition. This is something which is exciting for us. According to the news that we have got, this mod for Nexus One has only been made available for the CyanogenMod editions which are greater than the recent RC2 and therefore we need to be patient at least for some time when it gets incorporated into the next CM6 release.

This mod is actually accessible as a kind of path and can be transferred to other ROMs but for now, the 720p recording is exclusively available on the CyanogenMod. Therefore the owners of the Nexus One will not have to be jealous of the similar Sense bearing counterpart which is the HTC desire Unlocked smartphone which has received the feature of recording video in 720p for a long time. As far as the quality of recording goes, we have found that the video comes pretty good even in low light conditions and clarity is very good in the images. However if you are using the built in microSD card which comes with this phone then you probably will have to upgrade to a new one for the time being at least. This phone is far from gone and it will be receiving a lot of new similar modifications soon.

  • If one is giving a thought or willing to buy the new phone from Verizon which is considered as one of the best 3G smartphones or a 3G Multimedia device, that person will be extremely happy hearing that he can get a credit of dollars 30 for every 3G smartphone buy. This phone very much covers the characteristics of any phone that one is willing to buy from Big Red. The source of Verizon informs us that starting from 30th July itself, this cash back incentive provided by the company will be inordinately beneficial.

The number one carrier for wireless networks in US, calculated on the basis of the number of subscribers, will provide the customers the benefit of ruling the air with this specially devised incentive facility. The credit of $30 is provided to most of the 3G enabled phones of Verizon’s smartphone series and the multimedia series of phones including the best smartphones with Android. So if one is willing to buy a HTC Droid Incredible or the Motorola Droid X, he can actually save a huge amount from his pocket if he purchases the article in the near future. Venison does not need this incentive to promote the Unlocked Droid ( X ) or the Incredible but to measure how these smartphones are selling by their own.

But for every smart phone that is not showing ship dates in August one can earn a credit of $30 on each buy of smartphones. One needs to take an absolute advantage of this offer else it is very unsure when Verizon would launch its second offer. If one is still not aware of the new Unlocked Motorola Droid X from Verizon review, he might check it out on the internet. People can also go through the review of Verizon HTC Droid Incredible. One can also search and browse through the Super phone Shootout to compare the smartphone available during this summer season.

  • This although is something which we dearly needed, can get pretty annoying in the near future as the New York subways will soon be getting full cell phone connectivity along with WiFi within their network. Think this is impossible? Well no as the subways have recently signed a new deal with a company named Transit Wireless who have agreed to work with the NYC subway to install cell phone and WiFi receiver in certain tunnels of the subway system. Connections to the stations had already been made such that one could get cell phone connection in the stations but until now there was no connectivity in the sections of the network where the trains would go from underground tunnels. However now this will not be the case as there will not only be cell phones but WiFi connectivity in the tunnels. According to our findings, the costs for this entire project will be around $200 million and the entire network will spread to around 300 stations in total. The network that will be set up will be good to serve for next generation networks.

The people who have made this network have said that they have designed and built this network such that they can keep it for future use and it means longevity will count for the authority. What one has to gain from this is pretty obvious as there will be complete connectivity for the users even when they are inside the tunnels and hence you need not be worried about losing your signal when traveling underground. This can be pretty helpful when we consider that in case of emergencies, now users can actually make calls if needed. Although this system is all good, there are also some downers here as it means that there may just be a greater risk of having more people engaged in banal conversations in public transport systems.

  • From trekking through ‘difficult’ roads to carrying out GPS navigation that is ideal, the T-mobile Garminfone searches continually for price points that are partially lower. A recent reduction in the prices had left Garmin-Asus Garminfone at a contract price of $130 .This price is even lower than before. If one visits the market for an Unlocked LG EVE Android handset, the Garminfone is the best thing one can have for $100 when bought for 2 years contract.

There is a trick implemented by the dealers in order to be in an advantageous position as always. In order to get an extra $30 discount on $129.99 cost of the Garminfone, one has to be a T-mobile customer and has to sign a contract of 2 years with magenta. The purchaser also needs to sign the qualifying plan. A mail-in rebate of $50 is also given. Supposedly a person is presently a T-mobile user; there is a good possibility that he might receive a mail regarding this in his inbox. In T-mobile’s smartphone collection, the Garminfone is the hottest selling item. The handset of Garminfone has completely customized for your needs: the Android 1.6 user’s interface. It is recently renovated with the Android OS facility as mentioned above. Now-a-days the   magenta carrier possesses a satisfying number of smartphones with Android user that is efficiently lucrative to the customers. But if one is looking for a smartphone with GPS navigation facility and Android as well as map that are found on the phone itself, the Garminfone is the best choice one can possibly make. The GPS enabled smartphones provide navigation services in several turns and actually relies on wireless connection of data to download maps and other stuffs. On the other hand the Garminfone is a bit different from these smartphones. They do not require any special data connection and one can surf for directions and maps when ever required.

  • Spirit and its manufactures were in the doldrums with falling profits, bleeding subscribers to Apple’s unlocked Iphone4 but it has changed quite a bit since the inclusion of the Sprint HTC EVO 4G. Spirit’s run at the markets and the smartphone industry seemed to be in tatters and their business almost to a dead end but for the latest HTC EVO 4G. Spirit had previously tried to fight its arch enemy, its nemesis Apple through various means, for example the device like the Palm Pre (which by the way was a total failure). Apple and its iPhone and their improved versions seemed just too hot to handle. But this new Android by Spirit has seemingly breathed life to the company. Sprint added 111,000 net customers for the second quarter of 2010.

The smartphone Sprint HTC EVO 4G has been clearly making waves. It’s been rumoured to become one of the best, if not, the best smartphone of its times. Though it has been selling like hot cakes, yet at times the HTC EVO 4G is difficult to acquire from the stores

Spirit was reportedly at a loss of $760 million in its first quarter of the year and it had lost around 22800 subscribers. Spirit has now a total of 48.2 million subscribers. Though the company was on the downhill it seems their latest adventure in the form of Sprint HTC EVO 4G did pay off and it managed to keep the losses to a bare minimum.

It seems good times lie ahead for this company. There had been frequent complaints by customers about their notorious customers service and their imperfectness, but now with the surge in profits the company has seen a dramatic change in its personnel. This year in the last quarter the company was reported to having its best-ever contract churn rate of 1.85%.

  • It was recently announced that the text CS service of Cellular South would be made available to all Advance Pay and unlocked smartphone subscribers. Through this service it would become possible for customers of Cellular South to ask any questions to representatives through text messages. Suchquestions would then be answered by the representatives, again through text. Says a representative of Cellular South, “We make it a point to answer any queries a customer might have via text within 5 minutes of receiving it. Should the answer be such that it cannot fit into the 160 character limit of an SMS, we immediately call up the customer to provide a solution to his problem. We might even decide to move the customer to another resource we feel would be able to better serve him. Our text services are available five days a week from Monday till Friday during work hours. This text representative- customer service is really an extension to our previous groundbreaking online Discover Stores through which users could gain access to various knowledge bases and fast customer assistance. We are also planning on introducing a ‘Do not text and drive’ message in all our communications to spread awareness about the dangers of texting and driving.”

In the past, such text based services of asking various questions to representatives was only available to HTC users that had the HTC Unlocked Hero. Although such a service has still not been implemented by Cellular South on Blackberry’s, you can expect in near future a similar mechanism. Considering the fact that text messaging has now become the way of life for most users all over the world, it is not at all surprising to find that some carriers are extending such services to even their representatives to aid users. In fact, through such text messaging, it is much easier to get a point across and to answer customers directly.

  • Starting 7th June, AT&T has decided to get rid of its unlimited data Smartphone transfer plan and introduce different plans. The current $30 unlimited Unlocked Smartphone plan is soon to be depreciated with AT&T claiming that its new plans would be more affordable and more appreciative for people that make use of the internet on a regular basis. So what are these plans and are they really beneficial? We have analyzed them and give you the lowdown on what you really need to know about these plans.

DataPlus: Under this plan, AT&T plans of giving around 200MB of data transfer for $15. AT&T representatives claim that this plan will be sufficient for more than 65% of their Smartphone user database. In case you should choose this plan and go above the limit of 200MB, additional charges of the same amount for every additional 200MB will be charged.

DataPro: AT&T states that nearly 2% of its Smartphone users go over the 2GB limit of this plan. Charged at $25 per month, additional charges are $10 per GB.

There are even talks going on at AT&T  that claim those users wishing to have tethering on their DataPro plan can do so at an additional charge of $20 per month. This effectively results in you being able to share around 2 GB of data flow between your Smartphone and laptop for around $45 per month. Not bad, should you require the internet for simple mail checks. But there is a 5GB data transfer plan available for around $60 and together with tethering; the entire package costing $75.

Although you might not like any of the new plans that have come into existence, the new rates are much more user friendly allowing many AT&T Quickfire Unlocked Phone subscribers to now leverage the complete power of the internet and Smartphone. Of course, you could still decide to stick with the unlimited $30 data plan currently available.

  • In an announcement to their premier customers Sprint released an account alert asking their customers to “visit us tomorrow for an exciting announcement about a groundbreaking new device.”  No other details were provided but it is rumored that that this “groundbreaking new device” is the long rumored WiMAX smarphone.  This new WiMAX smartphone known as the HTC Supersonic comes equipped with a 4.3 inch screen and Android 2.1 with Sense UI.

Releasing a 4G device would certainly fit the “groundbreaking” category and there have already been plans to unveil the phone at CTIA.  There was a web chat transcript that was found on the Sprint Community that seems to corroborate.  In this web chat an interested consumer asks customer support if a new Android device is going to hit the market soon.  The customer support rep does in fact confirm that a new smartphone device is going to be available very soon.

The announcement of this new phone is a welcome sight to any consumers who were waiting for a new Android phone to hit the market.  This new HTC Supersonic is supposedly going to be one of the most high powered phones on the market today.  The 4.3 inch screen will make surfing the web and browsing through contacts and music a breeze.  Also, this new mobile device is going to be part of the Android 2.1 OS which is supposed to be much more powerful than the original Android OS.

I know that I am quite excited to see what this potentially new unlocked cell phone is actually going to be and what this new announcement is all about.  If it is in fact going to be an  announcement about the new HTC Supersonic than you can expect Sprint CEO Dan Hesse to talk about this in his keynote speech on Wednesday at CTIA.

  • FCC Releases App to Test WiFi Speed
Posted on March 26, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Everyone with an ounce of app development experience has come up with something for either the iPhone or the Android, and even the FCC is getting in on the fun.  The purpose of the app, according to their website, is to “provide Americans with additional information about their mobile data connection and create awareness about the mobile broadband connection quality.  While some people might understandably be concerned with an app designed by the Feds installed on their phone, all the app really does is monitor data upload and download speeds.  The FCC is set to release a new national broadband plan on 3/16, which will stress the need for improved cell phone data networks.

The data collected through this app will analyze geographical coverage and quality throughout the United States, essentially providing them an auditing tool for cell phone carrier claims and commercial coverage maps.  It will also, quite simply, allow the user to see what kind of data speed they are getting from their cell phone carrier in specific locations.  You can also find out the speed of your broadband connection by either turning on your cell phone WiFi, or checking out Broadband.gov.  This information generally isn’t as valuable for you as the end user, as you can’t move a fixed connection for better coverage as you can with a cell phone.

Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB Black Fido Locked Unlocked GSM Cellular Phone

Tests were recently conducted by the FCC in Seattle and Los Angeles, using a number of phones and carriers, and the results were a little surprising.  Verizon’s Droid in Seattle blew away all other results, registering 3G speeds of 1.71 MBPS downloads and .82 MBPS uploads.  The iPhone in Los Angeles came in with speeds of 1.35 MBPS downloads and .21 uploads, while Google’s Nexus One on T-Mobile in Seattle came in significantly slower at .29 MBPS downloads and .35 MBPS uploads.
