  • ChargeCard iPhone data USB charger The ChargeCard, a credit card-shaped USB charger for iPhone

Oh, no! You're out for the day but forgot your iPhone charging cable at home. The only way anything in your wallet is going to help you now is if you head to the nearest electronics store and pick up an extra Apple phone charger, right?

Not necessarily, if you've got a ChargeCard. Gizmodo and Mashable reported this week on a new product which originally popped up on Kickstarter but has since found enough funding to start shipping some models.

The credit card-shaped Apple accessory works like a USB data cable for iPhone 4 or iPhone 5. But, at the thickness of about three regular credit cards, it conveniently fits in your wallet, so you're likely to have it on you at all times.

For the time being, the makers of the ChargeCard are only starting to ship microUSB and iPhone 4 dock connector models. but they've also got a lightning version for iPhone 5 in the works, as well as models for BlackBerry and Android phones.

We're not saying that the ChargeCard will totally replace your other iPhone chargers. Obviously, it serves quite a different purpose than, say, an iPhone desktop charger. And, unlike your traditional Apple cable charger, which you can use at any outlet, the ChargeCard needs a USB port to work.

But it's still a clever accessory and, at its cheap $25 price tag, it's an iPhone accessory that's totally worth it, even as just a backup way of extending battery life.

  • Moshi 99MO061003 iGlaze Kameleon iPhone 5 BK Moshi's iGlaze Kameleon Case for iPhone 5 Case

In our mobile accessory of the week feature, we often review gadgets with all the bells and whistles, tons of features and an epic specs list. But this week, we chose our featured accessory because of its simplicity. Sleek and streamlined, Moshi's iGlaze Kameleon carrying case for iPhone 5 is almost futuristic in its minimalism.

Sometimes, less is more. And that's the case with this elegant accessory. Of course, Moshi's well known for its highly functional iPhone cases, and here again they've managed to make a protective case that's up to the job without ever looking over-designed.

Created with the media devourer in mind, the main feature of the iGlaze Kameleon case is its sleek aluminum kickstand, which allows for easy video and photo viewing without adding much bulk or weight to your phone.

Moshi iGlaze Kameleon Case iPhone 5 black landscape

You can use the integrated kickstand in either portrait or landscape mode, so whatever the media, you can get the perfect view, without the kickstand obstructing any controls.

Another high point for this carrying case is obviously its style. With a designer vegan leather backing overlaid on a tough polycarbonate frame, it looks like something out of a high-end interior design shop. And never has protecting your iPhone from bumps, shocks and scratches looked so elegant or sophisticated as in this sleek, modern accessory.

Especially considering that the iPhone 5 is one of the most beautiful, albeit minimalistic, phones on the market right now, we have to hand it to Moshi for designing a case that's so in tune with the newest iPhone's look.

As far as its suave, contemporary look, uncomplicated and easy to use kickstand and overall well thought out design, we'd rank the iGlaze Kameleon case as one of the best iPhone 5 accessories out there.

  • Griffin Reveal Clear iPhone 5 Cases Colors The clear back of Griffin's Reveal Case for iPhone 5 allows the perfect opportunity for embellishment

Hey crafty crafters out there, a new DIY trend is sweeping cell phone accessories – easy, custom iPhone cases or skins that take just minutes. If you're looking to turn your iPhone 5 into a one of a kind statement or show off your artistic talent, all you need is some creativity and a clear-backed iPhone 5 case. We like Griffin's Reveal Case for iPhone 5 because it's tough and comes in a variety of different colored borders.

Griffin Reveal iPhone Case Cover DIY Craft Project Start with paper, scissors and exacto. Image courtesy of PharMa.

Start with your clear iPhone case and whatever you want to put as the layer that shows between your phone and the case's shell. Using a piece of paper cut to the dimensions of your phone is probably simplest, but we've seen people online do this project with everything from lace doilies to feathers.

Of course, even with flat printed materials, there's a world of options. from a cool roadmap for the eternal globetrotter, to personal photos, decorative gift paper, and even collage for the skilled artists out there. The result is a completely unique iPhone 5 case with handcrafted look that says something personal about you.

If you're using anything that's remotely 3D, you may want to glue it to a cut-to-measure piece of paper anyway, to keep it in place, depending on the material. Again, Griffin's clear-backed Reveal Case for iPhone 5 is a good choice here since it'll give you a nice snug fit that won't allow your personalized layer to move around too much.

We're loving the versatility of this cool new trend, which will allow you to get as many looks as you want, as often as you want, from a single iPhone 5 accessory. You'll be able to switch up you cover for special events (think team logos for a big sporting event or solid colored paper to match your evening outfit.)

DIY Clear iPhone Case Peacock Feather A little ingenuity and a couple of minutes will give you a totally unique look.

To get exact instructions on this trend, you can check out PharMa's article on DIY Intergangeable iPhone covers, but a quick Google search and a little ingenuity should see you through this quick and easy project.

And, at the cost of most clear-backed iPhone 5 cases – Griffin's Reveal Case is around the $20 mark, but Pure Mobile's actually got it on sale at the moment – this is a DIY phone case project that's as cheap as it is fun and easy. If you find yourself inspired, let us know about your own craft project in the comments section below.

  • New Moshi iGlaze Armour Case for iPhone 5 Moshi's new iGlaze Armour Cases for iPhone 5 comes in lustrous metallic finishes

When it comes to cell phone accessories, Moshi is one of the best. And that's especially true in respect to their collection of iPhone 5 cases, which seems to be growing on a weekly basis. Their speciality is in combining sleek and compact designs with a style that borders on runway-worthy. In fact, the company describes itself as a "purveyor of electronics fashion," rather than simply a maker of carrying cases and covers.

It's no surprise then that the latest Moshi iPhone 5 case is just as elegant (some would even say beautiful) as the rest of their accessories. A continuation of their popular iGlaze case series, the iGlaze Armour is a brilliant and lustrous iPhone 5 case with a sleek and rich-looking metallic finish.

Available in either Silver, a gold-like Bronze, or a shiny jet Black, the iGlaze Armour combines a polycarbonate frame with a diamond-cut aluminum backplate, so you get strength at the core and a seriously sexy metallic outer.

We at Pure Mobile are already carrying the Bronze version, and we hope we're not going too far in saying that it's so stunning and so elegant that, in the flesh, it's actually reminiscent of a gold brick.

It's a sophisticated, and more importantly, a practical choice for your iPhone 5. Glamorous for women, and sophisticated for men, it reminds us of something either James Bond or Marilyn Monroe could carry around.

Again, Moshi has proved itself not only one of the best, but possibly the most fashion-conscious of cell phone accessories makers, as the iGlaze Armour iPhone 5 Case goes beyond mere protection and practicality with an elevated and endlessly elegant appeal.

  • mentalKase foam case for iPhone 4 4S mentalKase promises rugged protection for the "Bear Grylls adventurer"

Okay, so we all want to keep our fragile and costly devices protected. But have we gone a little too far in making crazy brick-like carrying cases to keep them safe? mentalKase, a new line of protective iPhone cases on Kickstarter, has led us to conclude yes and no.

At first glance, we completely pshawed the mentalKase. Branded as a sort of ultimate outdoorsman's carrying case, It looks like a really big silicone skin with a handle, wrapped around a slightly smaller silicone skin. Combined, the two layers practically double the size of your iPhone – talk about bulky!

But the case (which is compatible with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S with an iPhone 5 model in the works) isn't actually silicone. Its inner layer is made of TPU, while the large outer layer is made of micro-cell rubberized foam (MCRF), which mentalKase says "protects sensitive electronics from shock and impact" like nothing else.

And while their video shows someone dropping their iPhone, clad in a mentalKase, from a two-story rooftop, and another person chucking theirs into the air like a juggler, one wonders if any normal person would ever need protection for such activities? Nonetheless, the the iPhones survive, so at least we know the mentalKase does what it's supposed to.

Another little drawback to the mental case is that, while the outer layer allows access to the headphone jack, no mention is made of any of the other iPhone ports, so we're not really sure how you're supposed to charge with it on. Nevermind that it's not particularly attractive, though you can remove the outside and use just the inner layer.

It's also behind some other heavy-duty iPhone accessories, like the Lifeproof, and OtterBox's upcoming Armor case, in that it's not waterproof. But it will float to the surface, for whatever good that does you.

mentalKase foam iPhone cae 4 4S The outer layer of the mentalKase converts to a desktop iPhone stand

There are some nice features to the mentalKase, however. You can use it with your phone's screen out or flipped in, for extra protection. And the outer layer can be removed and converted into an iPhone desktop stand.

Also, the MCRF material used for the outer is anti-microbial. But, just as we feel it's a bit of an exaggeration to try and protect your phone lest it fall off a roof, we also think it's a little phobic to need a sterile case. Really, has your phone case ever given you a cold?

Over all, the mentalKase looks like a pretty decent product, and seems to deliver on what it promises. So, in that sense, it's not really going overboard if you happen to need a massive, germ-resistant iPhone case that can survive a game of "toss that phone" and can float like a fishing bobber.

But if you're looking for everyday use, we'd probably recommend a more streamlined case with a slightly lower level of shock absorption, something that'll actually fit in your pocket.

Still, it just goes to show that, for every person and every lifestyle, there's an iPhone accessory out that's just right.

  • Incipo Stanley iPhone 5 cases

Your iPhone's just another tool, right? Well, with their line of Stanley cases for iPhone 5, Incipio has taken that pretty literally. The cell phone accessories maker has paired with tool manufacturer Stanley for this collection of tough, professional-grade carrying cases and covers designed to for the jobsite.

We've reviewed a lot of cell phone accessories in the past, but this is the first time we've ever seen a line of cases specifically geared for some of the toughest trades out there.

New at Pure Mobile, the Stanley line will certainly look at home next to the rest of your tools, with models in classic construction colors like black and yellow (though they're also available in more subtle tones like black and grey, or even black and pink, for the ladies.)

Incipio Stanley Foreman case for iPhone 5 Incipio's Stanley Foreman case for iPhone 5 in Black and Yellow

And whatever your job throws at you, there's a Stanley case that can handle it. Models like  Dozer are extra-rugged, with a plextonium under-layer, shock-absorbing silicone outer, and screen protector. The Dozer even goes so far as to provide camera and button protectors that can be closed to keep dust and dirt out.

But different tasks require different levels of protection. And while models like the Highwire, Technician, and Foreman also use a combination of plextonium and either silicone or NGP in their multi-layer construction, each is tailor-made to suit the task at hand.

For a sleeker, slimmer look that's still up to par, we'd recommend the Foreman. While it's impact resistant, with a plextonium bumper and easy-to-grip silicone core, it's got a bit of a lower profile than styles like the Highwire or Dozer, which really do look like something you'd hang from your toolbelt.

But whatever the style for you, Incipio's Stanley line is definitely at the top of a very short list of iPhone 5 accessories we'd actually trust at a construction site.

  • Incipio xGo iPhone 5 case waterproof Incipio's Xgo iPhone 5 case, unveiled at CES, is waterproof up to 25 feet. Image courtesy of 9to5Mac.

Move over Liferpoof, there's a new waterproof iPhone 5 case in town. 9to5Mac reported on a new, seriously rugged case from Incipio, unveiled yesterday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The award-winning cell phone accessories maker's latest is the xGO, a rough-and-tumble iPhone 5 case that's waterproof up to 25 feet, and which the company has branded as an "action sports equipped case solution," ideal for the adventurous type.

The xGO blends a plextonium frame with a silicone core and sports a tempered glass screen, so that your iPhone isn't just protected underwater, but maintains full functionality as well.

Meanwhile, the case's mounting system allows you to "effortlessly mount the case to backpacks, bicycles, surfboards," and comes with a bunch of cool screw-in lenses for your phone's camera, like wide angle, fish eye, macro and zoom.

This latest Incipio iPhone case "provides our active enthusiast with the ability to protect their mobile device and take it with them on all their adventures,” said Incipio Chief Executive Andy Fathollahi in a statement. It's a solution that "changes the way you use your iPhone 5," the company says.

If you're a rugged, sporty or outdoorsy type and can't wait to get your hands on one, the xGO will start rolling out next month in a number of colors, and will be available along with add-ons like attachments, hardware, nylon hand straps and more.

  • A new rumor claims Apple's next iPhone will be a lower-cost model

This wouldn't be the first time, but The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported yesterday on a rumor that Apple is at work on a new iPhone that's cheaper than the current models.

According to the report, the cheaper iPhone that Apple is supposedly developing would answer to the fact the company is under increasing pressure to make a more affordable device in the face of "an onslaught of lower cost rivals powered by Google Inc.'s Android operating system," which are snapping up more and more of the market.

Citing "people briefed in the matter," the report says that the lower-priced iPhone would look more or less like the standard iPhone but would forego the iPhone 5's aluminum backing for a cheaper polycarbonate shell. And on the inside, the rumored smartphone would have some recycled parts from older iPhone models.

True, as the WSJ's Digits noted, even older versions, like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, are pretty steep without carrier subsidies. "The iPhone 4 without a contract, a phone two generations old, for example, costs $450 on Apple’s store," writes Digits.

But even coming from the WSJ, others warn not to read too much into this rumor. There was similar speculation as far back as February 2011, and nothing ever came of it.

In tackling the reasons we should be skeptical, Gizmodo probably put it best:

Is Apple working on prototypes made from cheaper materials? I'm sure it is. It's also working on prototypes with more expensive materials, and has been exploring both since the very first iPhone came out. But why would Apple sell an iPhone with iPhone 4S parts when it already sells the iPhone 4S? Why make an iPhone 5 out of cheaper materials when in less than a year's time the iPhone 5 will be discounted heavily to make way for a shiny new iPhone 6 (or 5S, or whatever)?

Nevermind that you can actually buy a cheap iPhone 4S through the Apple store already, or get a free iPhone with a contract. In other words, you can hope and pray for a new, lower-priced iPhone – just don't hold your breath.

  • Griffin's statement Moxy cases for iPhone 5 balance cool and quality

We already know mobile accessories maker Griffin for its tough as hell smartphone and tablet cases. Models like the Protector and Survivor are the kind of cases we could actually imagine surviving a zombie apocalypse.

But for some people, protection doesn't mean much unless it looks good. Sure, some may dig the utilitarian charm of a rugged case. But there are others still who'd prefer a much less macho look, a case that says high-end cool, a case with a little glamour and a fashionable edge, but that does the job nonethless.

And that's exactly what you get from today's mobile accessory of the week. Versatile as ever, leading mobile accessories label Griffin has come out with a line of ultra cool iPhone 5 cases under the banner of their Moxy collection.

With an edge and style worthy of a spot in even the best fashionista's wardrobe, Grffin's Moxy cases come in a trendy range of colors, textures and patterns, adding some serious designer appeal to your iPhone 5.

From their textured snakeskin Moxy Python iPhone case, to the intense black and pink combo of their leopard print Moxy Cat iPhone case, Griffin finds itself leading the competition in terms of both cool and quality.

That's because Griffin puts the same protective, multilayer design to work in their fashion-forward cases and skins as they would with simpler, more standard designs.

In the case of the Moxy line, you get a smooth rubber-finish lining that protects your iPhone from scratches and smudges, along with a tough polycarbonate shell around the back and edges for impact resistance.

So even though Griffin's iPhone 5 Moxy cases stand up to the rest of your wardrobe in terms of cool, they're also hard to beat in terms of functionality, protection and performance.
