  • Google usually remains fairly tight lipped regarding the stats of their various applications. However, the Google VP, Marissa Mayer recently announced that the map service provided by the company now has more than 150 million users in total. That number is more than half of the people in the United States, and easily makes Google Maps one of the most used applications across the globe.

The service has taken users on routes that total more than 12 billion miles per year. The latest build also allows users to use free GPS technology that previously would have required that users pay quite a bit of money for.

When asked about how she felt about Google Maps for the unlocked iPhone 4 platform, she said that the company was looking for ways to roll new updates out to a broader audience, and said that it was something that they were considering and debating currently. This was a hint that the company has an app in the works that would allow users to use the google Maps app for the iPhone in the same way that they would use their current GPS device.

Until iOS 5 makes its debut, I would not hold your breath on the possiblity of the app making tis way to the iPhone 4 unlocked any time soon. Apple has notoriously held Google products back in their app store, mostly because both companies are competing entities, and they appear to be taking their sweet time in reviewing the newest Google updates to their Maps application. With more than 150 million uses, you would think that Apple would be more than willing to roll out the new software, but then again they don’t want to grant anything to Google that they are not forced to. It will be interesting to see if these stats updates change the companies opinion of the Google company.

  • New Apple Television Coming Soon
Posted on March 30, 2011 by Pure Mobile

It looks as though Apple is looking to expand farther into the smart television market. They already have their Google TV product, which is set to deliver high quality streaming videos to users, and now it looks as though they are looking to bring a version of their iOS operating system to actual television sets as well. The new television set would be another market that Apple is looking to revolutionize is the same way that they did the tablet and smart phone markets with the unlocked iPhone 4 and iPad. Apparently, the company already has a working prototype of the forthcoming smart television.; The new TV would be able to automatically connect to their Apple TV service to provide users with video content quickly and easily. They could also allow users to purchase games that can be directly played through the TV.

It is also thought that Apple would be looking to include DVR features, allowing users to to record television straight through the television. You can expect many of their more popular apps to be updated to work through the television, including their most prominent apps including FaceTime, which would allow users to video chat straight through the television set.

If Apple were able to grab around 1 percent of the current television market, the TV could potentially earn them $4 billion each and every year. They may also look into creating several docking units that would add extra features to the television set.

No matter what they decide to run with, Apple’s iphone 4 unlocked will be delving into an industry that it has not before and will be leading the way as they have in so many industries recently. Now that the word is out, look for other companies to begin developing similar products of their own. Apple tends to lead the way, but there is always competition close behind looking to capitalize on the attention Apple has brought to a new market.

  • Steve Jobs has been ordered to appear in court in order to answer questions about the iTunes antitrust case. Jobs has been shrouded in rumors in recent weeks regarding his health, so some have suggested that perhaps this court order means that he is in better health than some of the rumors have suggested. The antitrust case was first filed in 2005. It alleged that Apple and their iTunes store for unlocked iphone 4 and ipad  had a complete monopoly over online music sales. While this may have been true at the time, a number of other services have popped up as the mobile market has continued to expand and other manufacturers launch their own music applications.

The antitrust case states that changes that Apple made to iTunes in 2004 prevented other companies from being played on devices that were released by Apple. The court stated that Jobs had first hand knowledge of their strategies and issues, and that was the reason why he has been called to appear.

As of right now, Jobs is currently on medical leave from the company, and has not stated when he expects to return. He took a leave of absence in 2009 as well, but this one differs because Jobs is remaining the acting CEO, even while he is on medical leave and will still be involved in larger, overarching strategic decisions that have been placed.

It will be interesting to see what kind of quotes from his testimony are released, if any. Jobs was not expected to be summoned to the court because of his medical problems. This could suggest that perhaps his health is better than some have speculated, but Jobs himself has not released any direct statements regarding the state of his health and has only asked that the media attempt to respect his privacy.

  • Twitter iPhone update
Posted on March 11, 2011 by Pure Mobile

You might have noticed that the official Twitter app received an update for unlocked iphone 4. The new update will not add any huge features as was seen in previous versions of the app, but it does look as if the quick bar tht was added will be a bit helpful. The “quick bar” was added to give you the currently trending topics based on your location with just the click of the button. Some users reported that shortly after they updated their app that they were having trouble re-opening the app. These problems seemed to be a bit isolated and were not experienced across the entire user base.

Now the version 3.3.1 is live for the first time. Most of the main upgrades that were included in the update fixed some of the more common crashing issues that have been reported with the app. Also included in the app update were a number of security fixes. These were accompanied by some improved performance updates that should make the app much more usable and phones that do not have the heavy hardware that the top notch phones do.

The total upgrade is a little bit more than six megabytes in the app store. some of the older versions of the app were also phased out with the update, but those versions were quite early so if you have updated any time recently then you have nothing to worry about.

Users that had trouble with the update have already taken to the iphone 4 unlocked and other iOS devices and have found some fixes for the update issues. Many users choose to use a third party Twitter application instead of the main one so that might keep some from noticing the same issues.

  • Developer Spacetime Studios, the company that is responsible for making the game Pocket Legends, a unique MMO mobile game that is increasing the expectations for other MMO games that attempt to make the jump to mobile devices. As of right now, Android has overtaken Unlocked BlackBerry cell phone such as Bold 9780, Torch 9800 unlocked, etc.  what most people consider the most prestigious smart phone operating platform across the nation.

The company has beaten the odds. While most developers claim that the Android market and other mobile platforms do not give them enough options to compete with the top companies in the space. After some internal research, Spacetime Studios discovered that they make up to 50 percent more from their Android users when compared to the iOS market.

The ability for users to more easily purchase Android apps might be behind the spike when compared to iOS in iphone 4 unlocked. iOS does not have the easy to use platform that Google has brought to the table.

So while some developers are finding that they are unable to compete in the mobile gaming market given the current structure of app marketplaces, that does not mean that there are not other companies that are able to find the niche that they are looking for, especially with Android users which do seem to differ substantially with users from the iOS platform, both in how they use their devices but also in what their general interests are.

It will be interesting to see if other mobile gaming developers release their figures based on a by system basis. That could potentially shed more light on the industry as a whole. Instead o hearing these isolated negative remarks, it would be nice to know how the industry as a whole feels. It seems to be very dependant on the type of the game as well as the number of titles that the given country has going for it.

  • iPad 2 Review
Posted on March 9, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The iPad 2 is already one of the most popular products of 2011, and it hasn’t even been released yet. The new device will feature a 1 GHz dual core A5 chip and cameras that were not included on the original version of the iPad 2. The CPU, all in all, will be up to two times as fast as the hardware from the original and Apple has claimed that the graphics performance will beup to nine times better than it was on the original iPad and iphone 4 unlocked, giving users access to play more advanced games on their tablet device.

Power requirements for the device have also remained the same. Your battery life will be just as long as it previously, which is good news because the battery life of the original iPad was one of the best selling points.

The device will start at $499 for 16 GB Wi-Fi only, and will go all the way up to $829 for the WiFi that comes complete with 3G connections and 64 GB of storage. One of the biggest features of the new iPad is the inclusion of an HDMI output that is capable of delivering images up to 1080p, which is a feature that many users were hoping would be included in the second version of the popular tablet device.

The new iOS 4.3 will be better suited for use on tablet devices, and many new apps will be made available during the launch including the heavily promoted iMovie and GarageBand, which should give users audio and video editing controls that have never before been available on the iPad, unlocked iphone 4 and other tablet devices.

The iPad 2 is highly anticipated, and so far it looks as though the iPad 2 will be living up to the hype based on what has been shown so far. Look for Apple to have another trick or two up their sleeves for the official launch, as they usually do.

  • Apple COO Talks Cheap iPhone
Posted on March 6, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The rumors about a cheaper unlocked iPhone 4 have been around for a long time. They first started a few weeks ago when reports stated that an iPhone-mini version was being worked on. these rumors were quickly shot down and now it appears that instead of a smaller version of the iPhone, Apple might just be looking into creating a version of the iPhone that features lower quality hardware and is able to be sold for a cheaper price.

The Apple COO, Tim Cook stated in a recent press event that Apple does not want their products to only be for “the rich,” and confirmed that they are looking to release cheaper versions of their products in order to make them appeal to a larger selection of people. Of course, the rumors of a cheaper version of the iPhone have been all over the net in recent months, but Apple has not really addressed them as directly as they did today.

Apple is also looking into expanding into the prepaid market. The moves that Apple was looking to make in the prepaid market was described as “clever,” although Tim Cook did not go any farther with his explanations then that. He also confirmed that Apple was going to be aggressively pursuing the tablet market moving forward, as the demand for those devices has risen substantially over the course of the last few weeks.

some have said that they believe that tablets could one day end up being as much as a $100 billion business for Apple, followed by other companies who are releasing devices in the space. With technology moving so quickly, who knows what kind of features could be included with tablets in the future. Watch for more rumors of a cheaper iPhone 4 unlocked and other prepaid plans being released at some point in the near future.

  • The system for iOS notifications has never been heralded by the media. Apple’s unlocked iphone 4 maintains that the system is the way it is for a reason, and they do not want their users bombarded with notifications from applications that they have downloaded and not knowing how to turn the notifications off.

However, a new app from Peter Hajas called MobileNotifier proves that not every notification has to be as intrusive as people have believed. The new application will provide users with an easily accessible notification tray, which will allow users to take a look at the notifications that have been send their way throughout the day. The idea behind the app is that it provides non intrusive notifications for applications that you want to receive notifications for, but do not want to be  interupted or have the phone make a noise when the notifications are delivered.

Hopefully Apple is working on a similar solution for iOS 5, but for now Mobile Notifier is definitely the best available option for individuals that are looking for non-intrusive notifications. Apple has not publicly addressed the idea of non-intrusive notifications or including the technology in future updates, but that certainly would be something that a majority of their users would be interested in.

In order to install Mobile Notifier, you will first have to jailbreak your phone because the application is not currently available in the Apple store. The reviews for the app have been raving so far, so there is a chance that in the future it could be included in the iphone 4 unlocked apps store, but not if apple is ever planning on implementing the technology themselves. Apple has been known to shun applications that capitalize on technology that they themselves are looking into expanding toward. It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to these claims if the app gains a lot of popularity.

  • As per one of the leading unlocked cell phone blog site, it is easy to see why iPad’s or other tablet devices would be solid purchases for members of parliament. Having all that power on the go would probably allow them to stay connected with their people a little bit easier. However, it was recently released that the ruling by the Board of Internal Economy (a ruling that was actually placed in November) that states that the board did not agree to allow them to purchase the iPads because of the great expense.

Not including taxes, the iPad’s would probably cost more than $160,000 in total.  Another reason behind the decision was that the “house system is totally based on Microsoft.” The ruling suggested that perhaps the infrastructure would be different and would cause issues as well. Of course, this does not seem like that valid of an excuse given how user friendly the iPad is and has been as a whole.

Many of the parliament members have purchased the iPad on their own dime since the ruling came down. Had they allowed members to use the iPad, they would have become the first major country to adopt the iPad on a government level as a legitimate tracking tool. It will be interesting to see how many decide to go out and buy tablet solutions on their own. It is easy to see how a purchase like this could benefit parliament members. They would probably be more likely to stay in contact with the general public and would have a device that would allow them to constantly update on progress during negotiations and share information with other members of parliament.

Although problems regarding infrastructure were cited as the reasoning behind the decision, the cost probably had more to do with it than anything else. Thousands of dollars on devices that are not required for the job is a hard sell, especially with the economy the way that it is today.
