Consumers and Mobile Applications: All about Android and Apple
Nearly 56% of Smartphone users such as Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, etc in the United States have spent money on mobile applications on at least one occasion, more than 70% of users spend little to nothing on Android or Apple applications however, while the highest 3% of all spenders account for nearly 20% of the total amount spent. In the last two years the competition between Smartphones Applications especially Android and their Apple counterparts has been an immense increase in innovation, ingenuity and creativity. In 2011 with Android operating system reaching a dominant position in the world’s Smartphone market, developers have taken a sudden interest in developing applications that can more than rival their Apple counterparts. Some of the best Smartphone Mobile Applications have been developed by Android and Apple and include applications such as Google Music which lets a user upload 20,000 songs from a PC or Mac to the cloud; the Android application instantly syncs those tunes and playlists, so there’s no longer any worry about plugging a mobile device into the desktop to download their music. SPEAKTOIT ASSISTANT is the next best thing for Android Smartphone users next to Siri, the personal assistant for the Apple iPhone 4. However, while it doesn't have the same capabilities are Siri it does include , it opens a Google search with a few key words from your request, which is often faster than typing. Maybe it should have closer comparison to Dragon Naturally Speaking Software.

Consumers and Mobile Applications: All about Android and Apple

According to Nielsen’s latest survey of mobile applications, 36 % of American consumers have a a Smartphone whether an Android or Apple Smartphone. Apple iOS (iPhone) and Google Android OS mobile phones represent the majority of the Smartphones market in the U.S. and 74 percent of mobile users who download applications. Apple iOS and Android OS Smartphones have more applications on their mobile phones than those with other kinds of Smartphones, with an average of 48 applications on iPhones and 35 applications on Android phones. More than 68% of of applications  download with iPhone 4S and 60 percent of those with Android phones reported using their mobile applications multiple times throughout the day.

However, its important to note that Smartphones applications that are provided for free usage for both the Apple iOS and Android -want something in return, and the tradeoff often comes at the expense of users' privacy. It's important to be careful especially when it comes to dealing with free applications for either Apple Smartphone or Android Smartphones.

Consumers and Mobile Applications: All about Android and Apple

"The presence of aggressive ad networks in mobile applications is one of the most prevalent mobile privacy issues today," said Lookout CTO Kevin Mahaffey in a recent interview. Earlier  this year, for example, iOS apps Path and Hipster were found to be leaking contact data. While technically that either application development firm was grabbing people's contact information for nefarious purposes, the wholesale transmission of people's address books in unencrypted format certainly did nothing to protect the privacy of users' data. It's just another important reminder on how especially careful Apple and Android Smartphone users such as Samsung Infuse, BlackBerry Touch 9900, etc should always be.

National Weather Service to text weather warnings

Smartphone users who find themselves in the vicinity of dangerous weather will get a text message from the National Weather Service. The NWS’s new Wireless Emergency Alerts system is designed to get weather warnings to those not plugged into television or radio. Warnings will be delivered for impending rough weather due to tornadoes, hurricanes, typhoons, tsunamis, flash floods, extreme winds, blizzards, and ice and dust storms.

The free text messages will be less than 90 characters and sent to later-model smartphones including  the Apple iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2, HTC One S, HTC One X, HTC One V, LG Optimus L7 as well as the Optimus L5 . The message will sound a special alert and then vibrate. Exactly which phone models will have system access is not yet known.

According to Amy Storey, spokeswoman for CTIA-The Wireless Association (the trade group that helped set up the system), “These alerts will make sure people are aware of any impending danger and provide them with the information needed so they can be safe until the threat is over.”

Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile will offer the service nationwide. To start, AT&T will only offer it in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Portland, Oregon but plans to add additional markets soon. Apple will support the service this fall. It’s not yet certain if older iPhones will get the text warnings.

Developers were first able to get their hands on the first iOS 6 beta version at the Apple WWDC earlier this month.   Currently the latest version -Beta 2 is headed for those same hands.

The update features both performance updates and bug fixes. Address Book, Game Center, iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime, Maps and Safari have all received updates.

There’s a pretty cool animation used with Beta 2 that we wish would get used in app icons. When you download this update, you can see the gears moving within the Settings icon. That’s a lot more fun than just a static image.

You can see the gears in action in this brief video:

A new report suggests that the popularity of Google’s Android OS is due to peak in 2012. The market will begin a major shift towards a strong Microsoft Windows platform.

Microsoft Windows predicted to take a big bite out of Google’s Android starting in 2013

The market research firm IDC just released the details of its latest Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report. The firm predicts that, while cell phone shipments will reach 1.8 billion units this year (compared to 1.7 billion in 2011), the numbers reflect stalled growth when compared to previous years. The major cause seems to be the beginning of a rapid decline in sales for feature phones. The IDC forecasts the lowest annual growth rate in their sales since 2009.

HTC One SHTC One X, HTC One V, HTC EVO 3D, HTC Flyer and HTC Jetstream

Nokia Lumia 900 and Nokia Lumia 800

Motorola Droid RAZR, Motorola Defy, Motoluxe, Motorola Xoom

Sony Xperia U, Sony Xperia ION, Sony Xperia Play

LG Optimus L7, LG Optimus 4G LTE and the Optimus Pad

IDC analyst Kevin Restivo was quoted as saying, “The smartphone parade won’t be as lively this year as it has been in past. The mobile phone user-transition from feature phones to smartphones will continue in a gradual but unabated fashion. Smartphone growth, however, will increasingly be driven by a triumvirate of smartphone operating systems, namely Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7.”

Microsoft Windows predicted to take a big bite out of Google’s Android starting in 2013

The smartphone market is expected to continue growing over the next five years, but IDC sees 2012 as the start of a major shift. Android has a big lead in the number of devices sporting its popular OS – predicted to be a 61% share by year-end. Apple’s iOS takes second place with 20.5%, one-third the size of Google’s market. The upstart Microsoft Windows/Windows Mobile will probably end 2012 with a 5.2% share of the market, less than one-tenth the size of Android. By 2016, the IDC says the numbers will look significantly different.

They predict that smartphone shipments will continue to grow through 2016, but this timeframe will see a big decline in Android OS use. It will probably peak in 2012 and then begin to lose significant market share to the Windows Phone platform. Apple’s iOS will probably see some decline as well.

Here are the IDC’s predictions. Between 2012 and 2016, Android’s share of the global market will decline more than 7% - from 61% to 52.9%. Apple’s iOS will become slightly less popular, going from 20.5% to 19%. Microsoft will be the big winner, with a quadrupling of its market share from 2012’s measly 5.2% to 19.2% in 2016. This obviously surpasses iOS as the No.2 smartphone platform in the world, not to mention ought to cause Google execs some sleepless nights.

“Underpinning the smartphone market is the constantly shifting OS landscape,” IDC analyst Ramon Llamas said. “Android will maintain leadership throughout our forecast, while others will gain more mobile operator partnerships (Apple) or currently find themselves in the midst of a major transition (BlackBerry and Windows Phone/Windows Mobile). What remains to be seen is how these different operating systems – as well as others – will define and shape the user experience beyond what we see today in order to attract new customers and encourage replacements.”

IDC expects RIM’s smartphone market share to stay relatively flat for the next few years. It will probably hold steady at around 6%. Other smartphone platforms can only expect a mere 3% of the market by 2016, down from 7.2% in 2012. Samsung’s Tizen platform makes up the majority of that 3%. Sorry Samsung. Maybe you should concentrate on Galaxy S IV and beyond.

The 27,000 individuals sued the company pursuing the company because their collective private location data, as was reported by numerous media sources yesterday. The group is looking for a total of 1 million won per person. That comes to a total of just about $25 million total, after the Korean Communications Commission fined Apple a total of $2829.

The fine came after the Location gate scandal that happened earlier in the year. This scandal included Apple tracking the location of everyone who used their devices and having it stored in their databases. It was a big deal at the time, and Apple likely probably thought they were out from under all of the scrutiny, but it looks as though there are still some that are upset with the privacy issues that they experienced.

Apple as a company has to buy its claims that there location tracking issue was the result of a bug, and was not done purposely by the company. They were able to fix the bug in the software update, and that put an end to all of location tracking issues that many users were having. However, by that time all of the damage had already been done in the locations of all of their different users had already been tracked by the company. It will be interesting to see if they are able to win a lawsuit as the only previous payout that the company may was a nine hour and $45 payout to a Korean lawyer named Kim Hyung-Suk following the scandal. The device has been one that had had a problem worldwide, and this is one of the first lawsuits that come through the pipeline.
