    Apple - HTC Saga Continues....

    By Aldo Panessidi

Can’t we all just get along?

In a round robin style of legal actions, the US International Trade Commission has agreed to revisit a decision made by a judge earlier this year. That particular ruling was not to the liking of Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, HTC, as the decision cleared Apple of four patent violation accusations.  Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with the latest stylish top brand bag, sleeves and case accessories.

Despite HTC’s tag line of “Quietly Brilliant,” the company has not been quiet in this technological battle of wills with Apple. And, as the first smartphone to market using Android OS technology, this corporate judicial sparring has likely been in the works for a number of years. The October ruling by an ITC judge determined that the HTC owned patents related to power management and phone dialing were not violated by Apple’s iPhone 4s, iPad 3G or iPod Touch.

In true legal relay fashion, the ITC decision came right before a ruling on a case brought against HTC by Apple which will determine if the smartphones manufactured by HTC are the culprits in patent infringement. As the HTC claim included Apple’s tablet technology, this writer does wonder if the HTC Flyer tablet will come under scrutiny as well. Taking their claim to where it matters most, Apple is pursued an injunction which will bar the rival HTC from distributing and selling products that include patent-violating technology in the US beginning in April 2012.  Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover our the accessories, stylus & pens, SD micro cards, data cables, desktop chargers, car kits and special glider gloves specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

Can’t we all just get along? For now it looks as though Apple has won the battle. However, based on the volley of legal actions between the two companies in recent months, there will likely be more news to follow. Who knows, with the forces of Apple, HTC (and Google Android perhaps?), these lawsuits could easily start to drift into patent questions around docking stations, hands free technologies, and other consumer inspired accessories. Stay posted for the next move in the game.

  • Blackberry App Update
Posted on December 21, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By John Castell

Blackberry App UpdateLooks like BlackBerry is angling to infuse some more « Crack » back into the once dominant brand with some BlackBerry app updates this week. What do those updates look like? Twitter for BlackBerry will be available for an update to version 2.1.0.28 that includes improved support for the BlackBerry Curve and Pearl users out there. According to company officials, “BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Pearl users are now able to view a users profile page from an @Mention.” Discover the latest unlocked Blackberry cell phones including the Blackberry Bold 9900

If you’re a BlackBerry user that hasn’t updated in a while, a version upgrade earlier this month includes support for multiple accounts and also for BBM sharing.  Both of these should be searchable in App World for manual updates too. And if behind on these updates, you may enjoy taking a look at the available tablets and newest BlackBerry gadgets to continue to optimize your smartphone device.  Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  The latest innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's leading brands.

Blackberry App UpdateFor those of you who are more inclined to use your BlackBerry device to jam out to some tunes on BBM Music (so very rad with a portable speaker for the office), there is good news for Canadian BlackBerry Beta Zone members in a the newest version available for download: 1.1.0.11. Looks to be a major update which will augment the experience with new features that are supposed to also coincide with BBM v6.1 release.  Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover our the accessories, stylus & pens, SD micro cards, data cables, desktop chargers, car kits and special glider gloves specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

Reports indicate that the most notable changes will be in the music area (so this may be the time to invest in quality headphones!).  Look for integration with BBM that will show what you’re listening to in the BBM status, the ability to request a gift from other BBM contacts for a subscription to BBM Music, and improved playlist creation. At a more technical level, end users may also see improvements from the server side when looking for news releases and other popular content (refuse to include the Kardashian updates as « news »). In general some great performance improvements are bound to be appreciated by BlackBerry users and to breathe some new life into the experience as well!

  • HTC Explorer –Diamond in the Rough

As the Android trend moves towards bigger screens, more “phone real estate” and the bigger-is-better design, it is refreshing to see a consistency with the smartphone manufacturer, HTC and its thoughtful inclusion of smaller footprint handset offerings including a wide HTC unlocked cell phone line of business.  The latest is a lovely mix of diminutive and rugged which has been christened Explorer. In an amalgamation that is sure to please, this is a small phone that packs the same punch as its predecessors by sporting the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with Sense UI 3.5.  Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with the latest stylish top brand bag, sleeves and case accessories.

HTC Explorer –Diamond in the RoughHowever, the smartphone market is becoming increasingly competitive amongst manufacturers, OS developers, and carriers who are all trying to make their indelible mark on consumers by employing consumer friendly choices like unlocked phones and must have protective cases and skins accessories. So what makes HTC cell phone Explorer stand out? simple... how light and compact it is, Adobe Flash support (yay!), incredibly fast boot up times, and some seriously nice stats for its Snapragon chipset, Gingerbread OS, memory capabilities etc.  Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover our the accessories, stylus & pens, SD micro cards, data cables, desktop chargers, car kits and special glider gloves specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

For all its perks, consumers should be aware of the slow SPU, fixed focus camera, and the lack of a document viewer and secondary video call camera. What’s more, the really tangible, joy inspiring accessories are not to be found in the standard retail package. A compact charger, microUSB cable, and… that’s it. No headset even. Get uuncompromised sound quality and a revolutionary design accentuating today’s interactive lifestyle.  Earpieces and headsets combine sophisticated style and precision engineering that deliver brilliant sound for your total listening pleasure.

    Bluetooth headsets

Luckily customers can customize with quality Bluetooth headsets of their choice, a car charger and personality inspired cases and skins to highlight what makes their choice of phones different and unique in a smartphone world dominated by Apple and Samsung (also allows customers to choose to embrace the rubberized “tough” look of the phone or to pick from a variety of colors).

Overalll, the Explorer is an unexpected gem in the smartphone lineup that made the most of its 600MHz processor and chipset and was also able to truly ac as a multimedia device with its easy handling of Flash content (games and video were a breeze for the Explorer). As an entry level device, it is a wonderful option that can easily be customized and decked out with your mobile accessories of choice. Keep a look out for unlocked versions and start your shopping around!

Technology is such an integral part of our daily lives that it is often easy to be unaware of what is silently going on and lurking in the background of our computers – especially what have now become pocket-computers - smartphones. The intent behind writing malware code has significantly shifted from the early days of this intrusive and highly damaging virus creation. Where it once was mischievous, attention-grabbing and reeked of personal ego and glorification, we are now in an era where viruses are stealthy coded to gather information which is then sold for profit. The 21st century has seen an exponential growth in malware to fuel a multi-billion dollar black market industry that is more profitable than illegal gambling and pornography combined.   In fact many wireless carriers are tracking user's behavior and personal SMS through a  spyware product developed by a company called Carrier IQ.  Protect your privacy from carriers with unlocked cell phones... which are carrier agnostic and allow you freedom from being 'locked in' a long term service contract.

Exponential Growth in for-profit Malware Hits Android

Antivirus / software security companies are in a constant cat and mouse game with malicious code writers and crime rings to protect the assets and information of consumers. PC users and companies alike recognize the need for security software on endpoints.  Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  The latest innovative protection solutions allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside our brand name protection cases and skin accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

What many consumers and companies are in denial about is the fact that smartphones are another endpoint open to infection and infiltration (and let’s be honest, righteous Mac / Apple users epitomize the attitude of this mindset). Alas, greed knows no boundaries, even if you have a sleek and lovely device in a cool case. To the chagrin of both iOS and Android users, botnets and rootkits that steal data don’t necessarily slow smartphones down which makes them silent and hard to detect, allowing malware to exploit consumer information for a profit.  Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select premium memory and electronic accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

Exponential Growth in for-profit Malware Hits Android

So, as the Carrier IQ scandal has brought widespread attention about carrier-sourced spyware, the ever growing targeted threat to Android users has walked off of center stage. According to Lookout Mobile Security, more than $1 million was pilfered from Android smartphones in 2011 and the amount of malware written for this OS dramatically jumped from 1% to 4% this year. The security firm highlights the practice of “mobile pickpocketing” which is malicious code written to steal money by exploiting carrier billing features. Consumers do have the option of unlocked devices and allow themselves the ability to shop around for carriers that address these security gaps.  Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with their collection of desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers.   Get all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.

The data was collected from 15 million handsets globally and from over one million apps in efforts to compile a 2012 Mobile Threat Predictions report. All signs point to continued increases in lost money, infected machines, and collected data in 2012.  Discover  the widest online selection of Bluetooth Headsets and BlueTooth Car Kits.  Latest technology from top brand manufacturers.  Hands free functionality is designed for the interactive 'on the go' lifestyle  and allows safe driving

Following these findings, the co-founder and CTO of Lookout Mobile Security stated, “2011 was a watershed year in terms of the types threats we saw emerging […] “Threats had greater sophistication and were deployed using more innovative and efficient distribution methods. In 2012, we expect to see the mobile malware business turn profitable. What took 15 years on the PC platform has only taken the mobile ecosystem two years.”

So – consumers beware, be educated, be on guard. Be empowered.

  • Windows OS hacked via SMS and Messaging
Posted on December 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By Megan Fleet

Have you ever wondered what kind of advances could be made in the world if hackers and malicious code writers put their brains to something not quite so… well, malicious?

Windows OS hacked via SMS and MessagingAlas, that is a an unlikely scenario considering hackers consider breaking into an OS and accessing it at the root level as something of an art form and a sport. Like IT Tai Chi.  Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  Discover innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading brands

The victim of the most recent OS hack? Microsoft’s Windows Phone. It looks like the attack is carried out through an SMS or a chat message from either Facebook or Windows Live Messenger and is used to disable the phone’s Messaging hub.  Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with their collection of desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers.   Get all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.

Some affected users will be notified of the infiltration by the Live tile pinned to the homescreen from the contact you received the message from. Then the phone will freeze. These victims have an easier fix – restart the device and remove the tile prior to it completely loading. A hard reset is still required, but allows a quick backup of photos etc. To prevent a possible infection of your Windows OS at the PC level, use of removable memory is a good precaution.  Discover the widest online selection of Bluetooth Headsets and BlueTooth Car Kits.  Latest technology from top brand manufacturers.  Hands free functionality is designed for the interactive 'on the go' lifestyle  and allows safe driving.

Windows OS hacked via SMS and Messaging

Unfortunately, in other cases, post attack, the Messaging hub cannot start and will require a hard reset on the device. As with any device consumers, need to consider removable memory cards as a seriously good idea in the event the handset and OS are compromised.

To rule out device specific flaws, Windows Phone 7.5 (for both build 7720 and 7740) were tested. Those results point to an issue at the OS level and not with the devices.

In all, this malware appears relatively innocuous as it doesn’t appear to compromise the security of the device and Microsoft is already working on a fix.

  • Google Android OS: Growing Goliath
Posted on December 15, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By Aldo Panessidi

Google Android OS: Growing GoliathDo you know what unbiased opinion is? No. Not teen spirit. It's the results from the report released by VisionMobile on Monday comparing the top eight open source platforms on the market. Not to be found under the shade of Google’s umbrella, this report sheds light on the marketing spin on Google’s Android OS.  .   Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  Discover the innovative protection solutions that allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside our brand nameprotection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression

Any newbie to the mobilization market knows that Apple’s iOS is a closed platform. It has also done remarkably well in winning over the creative geniuses in the sub-markets for apps and accessory creation. Google’s comeback to this success is that it is truly the best friend of app developers because of its “open source” concept.  Let  trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover an extensive array of award-wining design protective cases and skins that deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

True, the leviathan’s OS is more widely available to mobile device manufacturers and more easily distributed globally thanks to unlocked phones, but is it truly all that “open”? VisionMobile votes NO!   In fact, the new report ranks it the most closed of the open source platforms out of the eight reviewed projects. As can be seen in the Open Governance Index (please see below), an in-depth review of the relative openness for Android, Wt, Symbian, MeeGo, Mozilla, WebKit, Linux, and Eclipse yields results that defy the lip service of the Google executive team.   Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select electronic accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

    Google Android OS: Growing Goliath

By excluding licensing models and instead employing governance as a core metric, VisionMobile determined that Eclipse is actually the most open of these projects, pulling in a score of 84%. In contrast, Google’s Android came in dead last with an index score of 23%. With all the benefits of open source touted by Google, how does this add up?  XMI Speakers have built a reputation for delivering  uncompromised sound quality and a revolutionary design accentuating  today's interactive lifestyle.   Our earpieces and headsets combine sophisticated style and precision engineering that deliver brilliant sound for your total listening pleasure.

Follow the money. The firm concluded that the success of Android OS is in major part thanks to the significant financial backing of Google and its primary source of revenue. “Google has made Android available at ‘less than zero’ cost, since Google’s core business is not software or search, but driving eyeballs to ads,” the report states. “As is now well understood, Google’s strategy has been to subsidize Android such that it can deliver cheap handsets and low-cost wireless Internet access in order to drive more eyeballs to Google’s ad inventory. Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers - all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.

    Google Android OS: Growing Goliath

This is no garage grown start up. Instead, Google’s global presence, billions of marketing dollars (grace a carriers and vendors) and a drive to gobble up Apple’s grassroots momentum are behind Android’s success. Not its open source licensing philosophy. Nor its iconic, proprietary devices and end-user inspired mobile accessories.

Perhaps Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop, stated it best this past June: “Apple created the conditions necessary for Android.“
