Acer has long been a key player in the computer world. Their strong showing in the personal computer market space should have indicated a propensity to do well in the tablet market (here is an interesting inforgraphic on Tablet Takeover) the as another “endpoint segment.” So far that is not the case.

Acer Continues to Tackle Tablet Market

2011 saw disappointing sales for the  Acer Iconia Tablet, but they are determined to persevere with tablet releases in 2012. Despite this continuation, there are rumors that Acer may be slowing its tablet production in the upcoming year. Acer’s founder, Stan Shih, did state that they are not following trend s of the rumor mill and the company is not ready to give up on tablets. Also, they will be continuing with their smartphone production and have no projects on the chopping block at the moment in contradiction of recent reports.

Will Acer turn to innovative mobile accessories, such as protective bags, sleeves and cases to boost customer loyalty and sales in an increasingly competitive market? The New Year will bring news of this. The manufacturer may take the route of increasing its user base with unlocked cell phones. Or it may attempt to corner markets with signing exclusivity contracts with carriers. This writer’s take is that the smartphone and tablet manufacturer will be better suited to winning over the hearts and minds of the consumer market than riding the coattails of cellular carriers that are easily and frequently vilified by governments and consumers alike.

The founder made sure to note in his statement to DigiTimes that his Taiwan based company was slow to get its start in the notebook market as well. Taking the slow and steady method, Acer did become one of the world’s most recognizable and top PC vendors. Certainly not a competitor to take out of the race precipitously.

HoHoHo! All in all, we cannot make commentary on the success of the free apps as it will not end until 2012 is already upon us, but RIM is sure to stay on our radar for what it brings to the table in the coming year (whether it be good, bad or ugly!).

Were you one of the lucky ones to have received a smartphone for Christmas?  Well, if you are then you contributed to the largest mass Android and iOS activation.

A Record 6.8 million Android and iOS Devices Activated During Christmas Weekend According to Flurry Analytics, Christmas Day set a record for activations of those two smartphone operating systems in a single day. Between December 1st and December 20th, activations teetered between 1.3 million and 1.8 million devices per day, or an average of 1.5 million daily activations. That figure jumped 353% on December 25th, however, with 6.8 million iOS and Android devices having been activated according to Flurry.   Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Discover innovative protection solutions such as stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases designed to allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with our.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

The company also noticed a surge in new application downloads, no doubt propelled by the increased number of devices being activated. Between December 1st and December 20th, iOS and Android users downloaded about 108 million applications per day. On Christmas Day, downloads increased 252% to more than 242 million new Android and iOS apps were downloaded. Flurry explained that figure is “more than double any other day in the history of iOS and Android devices, except December 24, which delivered roughly 150 million downloads.” Finally, Flurry found that new Android and iOS phone users downloaded the largest volume of applications between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm (normalized) on Christmas Day, with peak hourly downloads exceeding 15 million.  Enhance your mobility!  Discover accessories such as, stylus & pens, Desk top chargers, SD memory cards, batteries, BleuTooth Headsets and XMI Speakers that turn your device into a power tool.  Experience these select accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

A Record 6.8 million Android and iOS Devices Activated During Christmas Weekend Google’s Android head Andy Rubin confirmed via Twitter on Wednesday that there were a total of 3.7 million Android devices activated on December 24th and December 25th combined. Google recently said that there are now more than 700,000 Android devices activated per day on average, which means the average daily activation figure was more than doubled over the holiday weekend. Flurry Analytics reported earlier this week that iOS and Android activations jumped 353% during the holiday weekend to set a new record for the most activations in a single day. Flurry also said more than 6.8 million Android and iOS devices were activated on December 25th (Christmas Day) alone.

  • BlackBerry Curve 9380 Review
Posted on December 29, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By:  Aldo Panessidi

    December 29, 2011

The BlackBerry Curve 9380 is RIM’s first ever-released Curve with a touch screen. The Curve product line is usually an expression of RIM’s understanding for a budget phone and this one supposedly, doesn’t make a difference. It should attract customers with a lower entry price while offering the full BB OS 7 experience.

Physically the BlackBerry Curve 9380's measurements are a svelte 109mmx60mmx11.2mm with a 3.2 inch display... weighing just 98grams makes the unlocked cell phone very pocket friendly.

The new Curve 9380 is basically a downgraded Torch 9860 – it has a less-capable processor and smaller and low-res display.   The BlackBerry Curve 9380 comes with a standard set of accessories - a USB cable, a wall charger and a set of headphones are provided. In addition there is a complimentary 2GB MicroSD card as well.

The following Blackberry Curve 9380 video provides great user interface insight

The BlackBerry Curve 9380 comes with a fixed-focus single LED flash camera offering the highest resolution of all RIM smartphones.  It does however, have a relatively low number of customizable settings.  The image quality is about average with pleasing colors and a good amount detail.

It is incapable of capturing HD videos due in part to its lower processor clock.   The best it can do is VGA clips at 30 frames per second (fps).  The video quality is up, however overall audio is poor.  Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select, stylus & pens, earpieces & headphones, data cables, desktop chargers, car kits and special glider gloves,  accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

The web browser is fast and responsive, however, it does not support Flash.  It does provide a solid set of organizer tools. Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Discover the latest  innovative protection solutions of stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases designed to allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside brand name protection cases and skins accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

The following is a snapshot of the Curve 9380 full feature list, followed by its disadvantages.

    Key features:

    • 3.2" 16M-color TFT touchscreen of HVGA resolution (360 x 480 pixels)
    • Quad-band GSM support and tri-band 3G with HSDPA
    • Single-core 800MHz processor
    • 512MB RAM
    • BlackBerry OS v7
    • BlackBerry’s proprietary email service and data security
    • Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity
    • GPS receiver and BlackBerry maps preloaded
    • 5 megapixel fixed-focus camera and a LED flash
    • VGA video recording @ 30 fps
    • 150MB of inbuilt storage
    • 2GB MicroSD card pre-bundled
    • Four physical buttons at the bottom
    • Optical trackpad
    • Hot-swappable microSD card slot (up to 16GB)
    • DivX and Xvid video support
    • Office document editor
    • 3.5 mm audio jack
    • Smart dialing
    • Ultra-fast boot times
    • Solid build quality

    Main disadvantages:

    • BlackBerry Internet Service account is a must to enjoy all the phone features
    • No physical QWERTY keyboard (a potential deal breaker for a BlackBerry)
    • No videocalling and no front facing camera either
    • No Flash support for the web browser
    • No FM radio
    • Screen has no haptic feedback
    • Poor audio quality and loudspeaker performance

    Apple - HTC Saga Continues....

    By Aldo Panessidi

Can’t we all just get along?

In a round robin style of legal actions, the US International Trade Commission has agreed to revisit a decision made by a judge earlier this year. That particular ruling was not to the liking of Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, HTC, as the decision cleared Apple of four patent violation accusations.  Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with the latest stylish top brand bag, sleeves and case accessories.

Despite HTC’s tag line of “Quietly Brilliant,” the company has not been quiet in this technological battle of wills with Apple. And, as the first smartphone to market using Android OS technology, this corporate judicial sparring has likely been in the works for a number of years. The October ruling by an ITC judge determined that the HTC owned patents related to power management and phone dialing were not violated by Apple’s iPhone 4s, iPad 3G or iPod Touch.

In true legal relay fashion, the ITC decision came right before a ruling on a case brought against HTC by Apple which will determine if the smartphones manufactured by HTC are the culprits in patent infringement. As the HTC claim included Apple’s tablet technology, this writer does wonder if the HTC Flyer tablet will come under scrutiny as well. Taking their claim to where it matters most, Apple is pursued an injunction which will bar the rival HTC from distributing and selling products that include patent-violating technology in the US beginning in April 2012.  Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover our the accessories, stylus & pens, SD micro cards, data cables, desktop chargers, car kits and special glider gloves specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

Can’t we all just get along? For now it looks as though Apple has won the battle. However, based on the volley of legal actions between the two companies in recent months, there will likely be more news to follow. Who knows, with the forces of Apple, HTC (and Google Android perhaps?), these lawsuits could easily start to drift into patent questions around docking stations, hands free technologies, and other consumer inspired accessories. Stay posted for the next move in the game.

Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OS

Some people would look at current market share distribution for Windows OS smartphones and give a shrug “meh – 2% of the market? Not a likely contender.” It is true that Microsoft hasn’t had the easiest road breaking into this new era of pocket PCs (aka smartphones), but the latest joint venture with European feature phone giant, Nokia, looks to be a step in the right direction. What would a giant step in the right direction be? Pairing up its OS with a Samsung handset. This is precisely what they have down with the Samsung i8350 Omnia W, a move that is bound to shake things up as Samsung has quickly become the Android golden child of smartphone manufacturing.  Let the latest trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover award-wining design protective cases and skins that deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

Time for the good, the bad, the ugly and a few ideas of rectifying some of the bad and ugly.  The Omnia W isn’t revolutionary. It’s a far sight more attractive than its predecessor, the Omnia S, but is still a midrange phone intended to compete in the North American market. Its most notable features? Powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and the Mango 7.5 OS, great battery life and screen clarity with the Super AMOLED touchscreen, Mobile Office document viewer / editor (one of the features that makes this a great buy for business professionals), and a multitude of social network integration and cloud services.   break free from long-term locked in service contract... unlocked cell phones enable you to enjoy the freedom of choosing your service provider and negotiating the service plan that best meets your interactive lifestyle.

Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OS

Now for where the Omnia S is lacking… Storage (it is non-expandable and there is no mass storage), no Flash support in browser (so no streaming your favorite guilty pleasure from ABC.com while on the go), and no video support are the most notable. Luckily these are shortcomings are either addressable by purchasing external storage or SD memory cards and investing in a separate media device for shooting video and streaming Flash content.

While the Omnia S doesn’t have the most dazzling internal stats, processor, or operating system, this Windows / Samsung collaboration does hit the intended mark of being elegant, aesthetically pleasing, business oriented smartphone for the a midrange market that integrates the best part of Microsoft and Windows: ease of use. They have made social media, texting, and the new ways we communicate all integral in the People Hub and have stayed with the current “Siri” trend of voice activated commands.

Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OSOn the bright side, accessories such as Bluetooth headsets, car chargers as well as protective cases and skins along with screen protectors.

For its shortcomings, there seem to be few that can’t be overcome with a bit of extracurricular accessory acquisitions and eventual Windows OS updates. As with any smartphone, this writer chalks much of it up to personal preference and how individuals use their devices. With plenty of unlocked phones, OS, and competitive carriers out there, it is a buyer’s market. So investigate the options, usage plans, and your must-haves in a mobile device and happy hunting!

Carrier IQ Speaks Out Regarding Stealth Software Rumors

After the constant buzz around Carrier IQ and its prolific data collecting software... which is purported to be a service that collects information from the customer handsets of certain mobile carriers, the company has finally decided to pipe up amid what is shaping up to be an escalating scandal.  They have released a detailed report regarding its stealth app software in an effort to protect themselves by outlining what they do and why they do it.  Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  Discover innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading brands

According to Carrier IQ, the Android log files that sparked this controversy did contain unencrypted personal information. However, following that admission the company stated that those were cases that should not normally occur. So why did it? Some mobile device handsets come preloaded with Carrier IQ which causes messages to debug from the pre-production manufacturer software. In other words, the transmittance of unencrypted data is the by-product of faulty software – not an intentional action of data stealing and reporting to carriers. For current Android customers, there are apps to seek out the cloaked software. For those prospective customers, who want security against this type of big brother monitoring need to explore the freedom offered by  unlocked cell phones - break free from service provider long term contracts; choose your preferred service providers and negotiate  a service packages that meet your individual lifestyle needs.

Carrier IQ Speaks Out Regarding Stealth Software Rumors

As it stands, the company has recognized that there is a flaw in the software that needs to be addressed. At the moment, Carrier IQ is collaborating with mobile device manufacturers and carriers alike to roll out a comprehensive fix that will protect customer and data privacy. End goal is to cease the debugging messages entirely as soon as a smartphone has been activated.  Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with our stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside our brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

Beyond unencrypted log files, greater cause for concern was the accusation of Carrier IQ recording SMS transactions. They are deflecting blame to one up to another bug in the app that results in recorded messages under vague “unique circumstances.” The circumstances that were mentioned included receipt of an SMS while in the middle of a call or data session. Not quite an uncommon or unique occurrence. Thankfully the SMS messages relayed back to Carrier IQ are encrypted for a higher degree of data privacy.   Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover the select accessories such, stylus & pens, batteries, microSD memory cards, chargers, glider gloves and other premium electronic gadgets specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

While an exact timeline hasn’t been announced, there was a promise made that the issue would be handled and fixed quickly.

And, for those most affected, the 19 page report is available to the public in PDF form. Please see previous blog entries for additional details regarding unlocked cell phones and for a partial list of carriers involved.

The Cupertino based company has released its second beta for the iOS 5.1 update which will be made available to customers soon. What makes this update special? There will be changes made to Photo Stream that will enable customers to delete individual images.  Discover the best online source for brand name data cables with the advanced design engineered to work with the latest wireless and mobile devices.

Apple’s iOS gets a Photo Stream FaceliftNot to be outdone, Apple’s mothership – iTunes, will get a tune up as well with version 10.5.2. This upgrade will reportedly bring “several improvements for iTunes Match […] fixes an audio distortion problem when playing or importing certain CDs.” With this particular iTunes update, looking into a an earpiece and headphone upgrade is great timing as well to make the most of quality sound. All good news that should be music to the ears!

  • Nokia / Microsoft Rumors Reemerge
Posted on December 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By: Aldo Panessidi

Nokia / Microsoft Rumors ReemergeTechnology companies are increasingly traded, acquired, and merged within industry similar to commodities with enormous sums of money involved.  Since the stakes are high in these transactions - industry rumors of sales, mergers and acquisitions are closely monitored and followed.  It is this high-energy atmosphere that may account for Nokia’s inability to quell rumors swirling about selling its Nokia cell phone line of business to Microsoft.

The Finnish company’s smartphone future was called into the speculation spotlight once again this Wednesday when Danske Bank informed its clients that Nokia will be selling the smartphone division to Microsoft sometime in the first half of 2012. This kind of claim carried serious clout as it came from the largest bank in Denmark. And with any speculation, there is money to be made which undermines some confidence in veracity. After making this announcement, Danske Bank changed the rating of Nokia stock from “Hold” to “Buy” - appropriately, and strangely similar sounding to Microsoft’s bing.com price predictor…).  Empower your ability to enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select accessories, such as, stylus & pens, SD Memory cards, data cables, chargers and batteries all specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

    Nokia / Microsoft Rumors Reemerge

This could be a great move for the Scandinavian company as they have seemed to struggle with the transition from feature phones to smartphones. The Symbian OS is nowhere as popular as its Google and Apple counterparts and its most recent smartphone releases are sporting Windows OS. The mobile accessories, consumer driven and end-user intuitive electronic gadgets have been surprisingly lacking as well which has affected the “stickiness” of the smartphones in the global market place. And where is the tablet to accompany and complement these technologies?

In May Nokia vehemently denied the rumors of a sale, but they kept cropping up as reports continued to come in that the two companies were indeed in discussions. The response from Nokia this time? “We put these rumors to rest a long time ago.” Clearly not, Nokia. Clearly not.

Ready. Set. Annnnnd Go! Android vs. iOS Faceoff

Imagine your college days where you spent hours vying with Nintendo 64 MarioKart rivalries. Then those hours invested unearthing secret jumps and shortcuts to gain an advantage and leave your competitors in the dust. Technically there were eight contenders. But you and your rival knew it was really just between the two of you.   Let  trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Our extensive array of award-wining design protective cases and skins deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

In perfect strategy mode, the grand prix allowed for the non-threatening competitors to get some shots in and give you an advantage. Battle mode was just too straightforward and messy.  This is eerily reminiscent of the global competition between Google’s Android OS and Apple’s iOS.  Unlocked cell phones enable you to break free from service provider shackles... choose your preferred service provider and negotiate a service contract that better meets your individual interactive needs.

Ready. Set. Annnnnd Go! Android vs. iOS Faceoff

Those players that helped shape the market initially are rapidly faltering under the momentum of these two dominant players.   2011 saw a clear break from the pact for both Android, which holds a majority 53% of the market, and iOS who continues to grow with 29%. RIM keeps faltering (down to 11% market share).  The previously mighty Microsoft fumbles over its feet with a meek 2% toe hold on the mobile device mountain. How much this has to do with unlocked device availability isn’t noted, but research indicates this is a huge driver in Google Android’s exponential growth.  XMI speakers deliver uncompromised sound quality and a revolutionary design accentuating  today's interactive lifestyle.   Earpieces and headsetscombine sophisticated style and precision engineering that deliver brilliant sound for your total listening pleasure

To further explain, Connected Intelligence’s executive director (Ross Rubin) said. “The competitive landscape for smartphones, which has been reshaped by Apple and Google, has ultimately forced every major handset provider through a major transition.”  The same Ross Rubin continued with, “for many of them, 2012 will be a critical year in assessing how effective their responses have been.” Consumer driven devices, accessories, and apps are huge markers for success as smartphones and tablets are increasingly integrated into day to day needs and usage.  Discover the innovative protection solutions which allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with our stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.
