  • The Isis mobile payment system has shelved plans for creating their own network, likely because it will just cost them far too much in the long run. The payment system so far has been a standalone service that was created by both AT&T and T-Mobile before the acquisition. This will utilize the Discover payment network and will allow for users to more easily make small purchases through their mobile devices.

Although the plans to release the payment system are still on schedule, they have scrapped plans to create a network of their own. The Wall Street Journal recently released an article in which they quoted multiple sources that stated that they were going to be ending their plans for creating their own network.

The idea of the Isis mobile payment system is that it will provide users with a mobile wallet of sorts that will allow for them to pay for small ticket items quickly using their mobile device. The device should also be able to provide users with personalized coupons that come straight from the mobile device itself.

Look for Isis to release more information about their service moving forward. So far the companies have been tight lipped regarding their plans for the payment portal. They are working on a swipe to buy proposition that will allow for users to make payments directly from their mobile device and will also provide them with a card to swipe through credit card machines until technology is made available to move away from this.

  • Spotify is a product that has quickly come to the top of web streaming and looks as though it will continue to grow moving forward as well. A number of reports have suggested that record labels are currently in the process of making it more difficult for them, especially with iTunes for unlocked iphone 4 and other competitors firmly in place in the market.

The company on Wednesday announced that they would be adding a new music downloading service to compliment their streaming service that aims to make their new product an all in one music player. “The only music play you will ever need,” is what they described as their end goal for their service.

Spotify will allow users to purchase the full play list from their catalogue of more than nine million songs. As it stands right now, they cost a bit more than $0.50 per song. This is much cheaper than some of their competitors and the fact that they are combining their streaming music service along with their new downloading service; they are aiming to provide a service that makes sense for all.

The rumors that the record companies are against Spotify have run rampant in recent weeks, but their growth appears to be beyond that. They have grown at an immense rate and have continued to receive funding from investors that are interested in their unique take on the streaming and downloading of music.

This will allow for their music to be placed on the iphone4 unlocked, iPod and other mp3 music players and will also allow for users to play the music directly from any device that the music files are placed on. This makes them a direct competitor with some of the largest music downloading programs currently available - including iTunes. Look for them to continue to grow quickly moving forward into the future.

  • T-Mobile is still a company that is expanding despite the fact that they were recently acquired. They will be expanding their new 21 mbps HSPA+ network to two new cities for unlocked cell phone users, including Scranton, PA, famous for being the main city in the TV show “The Office.” This shows that there are still some very interesting plans in the works for a company that was recently acquired. It will be interesting to see if there are plans in the future to continue to expand their network to new locations.

The 21 megabit per second wireless data is some of the fastest being offered in the United States at this time, which has made it an attractive offer for many of their users. Also receiving some help from the network will be Wilkes Barr, PA, Ft. Meyers, FL and also Pueblo, CO. Their roll otu of this network is slow and targeted to cities that use a lot of data, but you can bet that the ultimate plan is to bring it to the whole of the United States sooner rather than later. It will be interesting to see if this helps the company to garner new users before they are inevitably swallowed into AT&T.

T-Mobile has continued to aggressively expand and alter their services to get the best possible outcome in the long run. A lot of time and effort has gone into seeing their network expand, and it is likely a technology that AT&T themselves would love to utilize moving forward. Look for the company to continue to expand this network to new cities in the future.

High speed is a standard nowadays, with the demand going up it is important for the supply to be there too. There is talk of capping data plans or go on a cost per usage basis. These types of launches help users efforts to keep costs down and have a solid data plan.

  • New Sprint Music Service
Posted on April 14, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Spring is going to be launching a new music services for unlocked cell phone customers of their Sprint Music Plus service. The entire operation will be powered by Real Networks and will allow users to purchase MP3 songs for just $0.69. These songs can then be used as ringtones. The app is currently available for Sprint phones with the Sprint Zone application, and is also available on a number of BlackBerry devices as well.

Devices that were first released before May 2010 will only have access to ringtones and ringback tones through their Sprint Music Plus service. Users will be able to save on each individual ringtone and song when they bundle them together in packs.

All of the purchases that are made through the music system will appear on the Sprint wireless bill. The company released a press release about the potential service earlier in the day to lay out a few of the more interesting features that will be seen with their new service.

To start, users will be able to create particular playlists of different songs, and will be able to specify tones for different callers in your contacts list.

The service will also allow you to search for music by specific artists, or by the generic or through the playlists on your music library manager. This allows you to preview content and also receive recommendations based on the music that you have downloaded and purchased thus far.

It will certainly be interesting to see how well this new service takes off for Sprint. They are likely looking to compete directly with iTunes and Apple iphone 4 unlocked with this new service. The ability for them to market the music directly to their current users should help them to be able to take off.

  • Although the unlocked Nokia ( E6 ) and Nokia E7 have had a lot of their details leaked previous to the announcement, today Nokia released information about their two new Symbian smart devices that will run ont he brand new “Anna” operating system. The E6 is a business phone that will come with a full QWERTY keyboard.

The phone will come with a 640 x 480 touchscreen display, as well as an eight megapixel camera. The X7 is a similar phone, but will be geared toward regular consumers instead of business consumers. It will have an AMOLED screen, and will have a stainless steel design, along with eight megabytes of storage.

The new design will feature a redesigned interface, as well as new icons and much quicker web browsing. It is a huge upgrade over previous versions of the device. The new version of Symbian was created to provide a commercial level grade of security.

The pones will be launching sometime int he second quarter of this year. Nokia stopped short of releasing any of the pricing information about either of the phones. The X7 will not be released in the United States, but the company is considering releasing the phone in other countries but has not made any commitments at this time.

The X7 is a phone that is much more geared toward entertainment than it is to business like its brother phone. Both phones look great based on the descriptions that were released today. The strong, yet sleek designs of the phone represent the new style that they have been running with for their last few announced devices. The new Symbian Anna software is one of the best out there for businesses and has become the go-to operating system for Nokia in these cases.

  • Experian Hitwise, a web analytics company has stated that Bing looks as though it has been able to garner 30% of the US search market from Google. This is a bit of a surprising figure for a search engine that is less than two years old in total. This means that Bing has moved up more than 6% between the months of February and March. Google saw their share of the US search market fall about 3%, leaving them with just over 64% of the search market.

Of course, Google is still the undisputed leader in the US and world search markets. However, some have suggested that perhaps the Bing and Yahoo agreement have made both companies much more effective than Google has been in recent years. The firm states that over 80% of searches that come from Bing and Yahoo will result in finding a website you are looking for, while only about 65% of Google searches will get you to where you would like to be.

Google is certainly falling in the US, but maintains a stranglehold on the world market as a whole. With Bing and Yahoo gaining ground through their agreement, Google will have to figure out how they can maintain their current hold on the US market.

Bing has aggressively pursued unlocked cell phone users since the incident took place, and has managed to carve out a number of deals that will allow them to take hold of some of the market. Bing and Yahoo reached an agreement to run through the same platform over a year ago, and it has been undeniably good to them, as they have seen their overall market share rise quite a bit since the deal was first enacted. Google has yet to comment on the story after it broke.

  • Atari Releases Greatest Hits on iOS
Posted on April 11, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Have you ever wanted to play your old favorite Atari games on your smart phone? There have been some titles that have been released that have been successfully ported or copied, but nothing quite like the recent release by Atari for iOS device such as unlocked iphone 4 and ipad. The company is releasing their top 100 greatest hits for all to feast upon. The collection is quite impressive, and should garner quite a bit of attention.

They will also be releasing their iCade cabinet in June, which will turn the iPad into a virtual arcade console and should become pretty popular. Some of the titles that will be added to the collection that is being released by Atari.

The new release will include 18 classic games that were released during the early days of gaming. The other games will come from their consoles. The app and all 100 games for cell phone will only cost $14.99. While that does seem expensive for an app, but with all of the content that they are delivering it is actually quite a good deal.

Look at it as four different $0.99 packs of 25 games, if you are looking for a way to justify the price. Atari has made some of the most recognizable games over the years including the ultra popular Pong, 3d Tic Tac Toe, and Warlords.

Atari is one of the top gaming companies of all time, and the fact that they are releasing such an interesting pack of games should draw a lot of attention. The response from middle aged gamers should be ridiculous, and will allow for younger gamers to really take a look at older games that they never got a chance to play throughout their childhood. Watch for these Atari games to continually garner a lot of attention from media sources as a result of this fantastic release.

  • The musical team Bluebrain has developed an application that makes their new album location aware. The new album will dictate where you can listen to the music, the song that it will be playing, and when it will be playing them. The new album is titled “The National Mall” is was created to provide the perfect backdrop for wherever you are at any given time.

The album will use phones GPS to track where you are. They have hundreds of tagged zones that allow you to play certain songs when you are in the given zone. It will be the first location aware album that has ever been released, and will be available on iOS device such as iphone 4 unlocked and ipad.

At the very least, it is a very interesting take on how to make an album in an industry that has really taken a hit due to Internet privacy. Are you looking to hear a certain melody that corresponds with the area that you are in? Take a walk and go to a different monument to hear different songs.

Their hope is that the album will become the official soundtrack for tours of the area. Soem have suggested that because you can not listen to every track whenever you want, that the app and album will not sell all that well. Their new idea has been heavily covered by media sources and should be one of the quickest growing apps from BlueBrain, a group that has become renowned for their ability to compose great landscape dependent sound scapes.

At the very least, you might want to give it a look. If you like the music and are in the DC area, BlueBrain offers great sounds that truly will give you the perfect music for any given monument that you are at.

  • The next owner of BlockBuster will potentially have the future of the company in their hands. The new owner could choose to close all of the movie rental locations, liquidate the assets and move on from the company as a whole. However, they could choose to continue operations within the company, although you have to know that based on the legal troubles that have been seen with the company recently, the chances of them being able to continue with all of their current stores open is very unlikely. They could attempt to compete with streaming video services and keep the brand name, which is highly recognizable.

The business model that Blockbuster operated under simply is not practical in this day and age - especially when many of the titles that they offer (particularly older ones) are already available for free streaming on the web with a subscription to NetFlix. For physical movies, many are using the mail or RedBox dispensor machines to get their movie fix. It will be interesting to see who takes control of the BlockBuster brand and what they decide to do with it moving forward.

The bidding was opened at $290 million to start by Monarch Alternative Capital LP. This number may seem large, but is actually very small based on how big the brand still is even in this day and age. The company was first put up for sale in February after their financial problems hit the metaphorical wall, and only bids under $296 million qualified.

A number of other companies, including Dish Network have bid on BlockBuster, but their bids have not been made publicly available. A new owner will reportedly be chosen by Monday, and the bankruptcy judge will have to make a final decision on April 7th before the deal can move forward.

  • HTC Incredible S Review
Posted on April 7, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The unlocked HTC Incredible S is a device that has received a lot of attention over the course of the last few weeks - and for good reason, it is a very solid offering from the company. Although the specs indicate that the upgrade of the device would be minor at best, just play with it for a few seconds and you will see how much faster it operates than it previously did. The screen moved from 3.7 to 4 inches, which is quite a huge growth for just an upgrade of a previous device.

The device looks pretty plain in terms of style, but that doesn’t mean that it does not perform very well. Its 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is more than enough to power through the Android 2.2 operating system very easily. The battery life is great compared to previous versions of the device, and it outperforms most competitors in terms of speed. The company has also said that they expect to have a Gingerbread upgrade for the phone sometime by the end of June, which just gives consumers more reason to take a serious look at the device.

Its 8 megapixel rear facing camera, combined with a 1.3 front facing camera are also very attractive options for the device. Although it does not come standard with an HDMI port, it does have other neat features such as a really potent LED flash.

The display on the device is beautiful, and is a huge upgrade over the previous version. The image that it delivers are quite vivid, and really stands out amongst other phones. It has 800 x 480 display that looks insanely clean, and the controls are quite smart. The Super AMOLED display of HTC Incredible S unlocked is definitely the highlight of the device, which comes in underweight for the number of features that it offers.
