Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OS

Some people would look at current market share distribution for Windows OS smartphones and give a shrug “meh – 2% of the market? Not a likely contender.” It is true that Microsoft hasn’t had the easiest road breaking into this new era of pocket PCs (aka smartphones), but the latest joint venture with European feature phone giant, Nokia, looks to be a step in the right direction. What would a giant step in the right direction be? Pairing up its OS with a Samsung handset. This is precisely what they have down with the Samsung i8350 Omnia W, a move that is bound to shake things up as Samsung has quickly become the Android golden child of smartphone manufacturing.  Let the latest trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover award-wining design protective cases and skins that deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

Time for the good, the bad, the ugly and a few ideas of rectifying some of the bad and ugly.  The Omnia W isn’t revolutionary. It’s a far sight more attractive than its predecessor, the Omnia S, but is still a midrange phone intended to compete in the North American market. Its most notable features? Powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and the Mango 7.5 OS, great battery life and screen clarity with the Super AMOLED touchscreen, Mobile Office document viewer / editor (one of the features that makes this a great buy for business professionals), and a multitude of social network integration and cloud services.   break free from long-term locked in service contract... unlocked cell phones enable you to enjoy the freedom of choosing your service provider and negotiating the service plan that best meets your interactive lifestyle.

Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OS

Now for where the Omnia S is lacking… Storage (it is non-expandable and there is no mass storage), no Flash support in browser (so no streaming your favorite guilty pleasure from while on the go), and no video support are the most notable. Luckily these are shortcomings are either addressable by purchasing external storage or SD memory cards and investing in a separate media device for shooting video and streaming Flash content.

While the Omnia S doesn’t have the most dazzling internal stats, processor, or operating system, this Windows / Samsung collaboration does hit the intended mark of being elegant, aesthetically pleasing, business oriented smartphone for the a midrange market that integrates the best part of Microsoft and Windows: ease of use. They have made social media, texting, and the new ways we communicate all integral in the People Hub and have stayed with the current “Siri” trend of voice activated commands.

Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OSOn the bright side, accessories such as Bluetooth headsets, car chargers as well as protective cases and skins along with screen protectors.

For its shortcomings, there seem to be few that can’t be overcome with a bit of extracurricular accessory acquisitions and eventual Windows OS updates. As with any smartphone, this writer chalks much of it up to personal preference and how individuals use their devices. With plenty of unlocked phones, OS, and competitive carriers out there, it is a buyer’s market. So investigate the options, usage plans, and your must-haves in a mobile device and happy hunting!

Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  The latest innovative protection solutions allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside our brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

  • Google Android OS: Growing Goliath

Google Android OS: Growing GoliathDo you know what unbiased opinion is? No. Not teen spirit. It's the results from the report released by VisionMobile on Monday comparing the top eight open source platforms on the market. Not to be found under the shade of Google’s umbrella, this report sheds light on the marketing spin on Google’s Android OS.  .   Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  Discover the innovative protection solutions that allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside our brand nameprotection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression

Any newbie to the mobilization market knows that Apple’s iOS is a closed platform. It has also done remarkably well in winning over the creative geniuses in the sub-markets for apps and accessory creation. Google’s comeback to this success is that it is truly the best friend of app developers because of its “open source” concept.  Let  trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover an extensive array of award-wining design protective cases and skins that deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

True, the leviathan’s OS is more widely available to mobile device manufacturers and more easily distributed globally thanks to unlocked phones, but is it truly all that “open”? VisionMobile votes NO!   In fact, the new report ranks it the most closed of the open source platforms out of the eight reviewed projects. As can be seen in the Open Governance Index (please see below), an in-depth review of the relative openness for Android, Wt, Symbian, MeeGo, Mozilla, WebKit, Linux, and Eclipse yields results that defy the lip service of the Google executive team.   Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select electronic accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

    Google Android OS: Growing Goliath

By excluding licensing models and instead employing governance as a core metric, VisionMobile determined that Eclipse is actually the most open of these projects, pulling in a score of 84%. In contrast, Google’s Android came in dead last with an index score of 23%. With all the benefits of open source touted by Google, how does this add up?  XMI Speakers have built a reputation for delivering  uncompromised sound quality and a revolutionary design accentuating  today's interactive lifestyle.   Our earpieces and headsets combine sophisticated style and precision engineering that deliver brilliant sound for your total listening pleasure.

Follow the money. The firm concluded that the success of Android OS is in major part thanks to the significant financial backing of Google and its primary source of revenue. “Google has made Android available at ‘less than zero’ cost, since Google’s core business is not software or search, but driving eyeballs to ads,” the report states. “As is now well understood, Google’s strategy has been to subsidize Android such that it can deliver cheap handsets and low-cost wireless Internet access in order to drive more eyeballs to Google’s ad inventory. Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers - all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.

    Google Android OS: Growing Goliath

This is no garage grown start up. Instead, Google’s global presence, billions of marketing dollars (grace a carriers and vendors) and a drive to gobble up Apple’s grassroots momentum are behind Android’s success. Not its open source licensing philosophy. Nor its iconic, proprietary devices and end-user inspired mobile accessories.

Perhaps Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop, stated it best this past June: “Apple created the conditions necessary for Android.“

Nokia's latest product roadmap suggests that they are definitely on top of things! Sony is taking full heed of the old adage - « Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. » While this is not  quite how the phrase was made notorious by former President George W. Bush, but it is a sentiment that Sony Ericsson customers can relate to.  Way back when Android released v1.6 (time being relative in the technology world) for the Sony Xperia X10, customers experienced an unnecessary amount of pain when attempting to upgrade their smartphones’ operating system.Sony Ericsson Treads Lightly in Introducing Android 4.0 ICS to Customers

Prior to November 14th Sony Ericsson did not have access to the Android 4.0 ICS sourcecode, so they pulled up their shirtsleeves and began adapting their different devices.  Since  the code was optimized to work with Texas Instrument chipsets, there were some inevitable delays as Sony Ericsson rewrote most of the code from Hardware Abstraction Layer in order to interoperate with Qualcomm’s hardware.  In a heart-warming display of corporate collaboration... this software coding  is being shared with Android and its open source project – perhaps hinting at a willingness to pursue carrier neutrality with unlocked cell phone releases in the future.

The behind-the-scene coding work ensured that the migration to the Gingerbread v2.3 was, like its name, sweeter and smoother, with significantly less customer trepidation.  Moving forward,  Sony Ericsson has opted to makeover all the 2011 Xperia devices with the Ice Cream Sandwich Android OS v4.0 - across all their Xperia brand portfolio -  Sony Xperia Mini Pro, Sony Arc, Sony Ray, Sony Cedar and Sony Play). For those Xperia smartphone users that prefer more tangible upgrades, a physical makeover with updated protective cases and skins may be more satisfying while waiting for the ICS OS release.

In their efforts to effectively communicate the upcoming upgrades, Sony Ericsson has been very open with customers. This is great and all, but consumer impatience is setting in. After all, it's the season for instant gratification - even if that new speaker dock for your smartphone has to sit on the closet shelf for a few weeks. To top off the impatience, some users still have some lingering concerns based on the Android 1.6 incident.

In  true technology-forward fashion, Sony Ericsson released a detailed blog post which outlining the timeline of events for the ICS OS roll out. There is no firm date on when the ICS upgrades will be available to end-users as their mobile devices go through rigorous internal testing and then testing externally to receive certification from the various carriers.

  • RIM Introduces New BBX Platform
Posted on October 18, 2011 by Pure Mobile

There are few press conferences happening this week with the important ones being from Blackberry and Motorola. In typical fashion the major companies are aligning their conferences in time for the holiday season to build up the hype and speculation on what new and exciting features are going to be made available.

    RIM Introduces New BBX Platform

For last little while Blackberry has been under the gun in that they have long been seen as a phone that has been behind in the times. Most wondered when they will make significant improvements to their operating system. Well, the wait is finally over as Blackberry has just announced their new BBX platform.

The key feature of the operating system is that it is making use of HTML 5 and Blackberry is encouraging developers to use HTML 5 to bridge the gap other applications with the several Blackberry operating systems that are currently being used on their phones such as Unlocked Bold 9900, Torch 9860, etc. This includes Blackberry OS 6, Blackberry OS 7, as well as the native BBX platform set to be released shortly. Other features of the platform include support for integration into the Blackberry cloud service and their proprietary UI framework which will be available in the coming weeks.

RIM Introduces New BBX PlatformRIM hopes that the release of the BBX platform will be used to create what they term as super apps taking advantage of Blackberry BBM functionality that can make for a very unique and personal user experience.

If the BBX platform was released a year or so ago we would be excited about the features and possibilities that the platform provides. However, most of the functionality already exists on other operating systems on the market making the news not so great. We'll see how the launch of this platform will affect the overall perception of Blackberry as well as market share and support from developers they will receive.

PureMobile carries wide range of unlocked Blackberry phones and cell phone accessories such as Cases and Skins.

  • First Weekend Sales For The iPhone 4S
Posted on October 17, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Apple press conference has come and gone and we are now starting to see the after effects of the release of the unlocked iPhone 4S. Based on the initial data released it appears that the reviews have been positive and have resulted in great figures in terms of sales for Apple.

First Weekend Sales For The iPhone 4S

Let's get down to the numbers, in the first weekend of the unlocked iPhone 4S being on sale, Apple claims was sold over 4 million units. This is a clear sign that users see the value in the new release and a flocked to stores to get their hands on it as soon as possible. These numbers are quite impressive as a majority of the updates are hardware-based which typically are not appreciated as much by consumers.

In addition to the release of the iPhone 4S unlocked, Apple has also launched a series of other new software based upgrades and the numbers for those were made available as well. Apple also released there iCloud and already have approximately 2020 million users signed up for the service. Apple is also released numbers on the new iOS 5 operating system and some 25 million users have already upgraded.

First Weekend Sales For The iPhone 4S

All in all the above numbers are positive based on analyst expectations and consumer acceptance of the recent products and services released. It looks like Apple will continue to have a stronghold for the time being within the smart phone marketplace. They really needed to create another In terms of quality and features as many of their competitors are releasing what is considered to be better hardware specs than the unlocked iPhone 4S. This may be a sign that Apple has officially conceded superiority in the hardware side of the business and are focusing much of their efforts on the software and overall user experience of their customers.

Puremobile  carries  wide range of unlocked cell phone and iphone 4 accessories such as Cases and Skins.
