Google jumped its final hurdle in its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility with China approving the deal. The next step may involve layoffs for Motorola Mobility employees in the near future. According to Tech Crunch, layoffs could be on the list of things to do after the deal closes.

What else will happen to Motorola Now that they’re owned by Google?

Discover the latest innovative protection solutions for Motorola cell phones ... stylish top brand bags, sleeves as well as  cases and skins specifically designed to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside these brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

Motorola went through one restructuring after the announcement of the Google acquisition last year. When the announcement went public, Motorola had 19,000 employees. Later that year about 800 employees were laid off.  Neither Google nor Motorola have confirmed the possibility of upcoming layoffs.

Enhance your gaming mobility and turn your device into a gamers' power tool!  Discover select accessories such as; stylus & pens, micro SD memory cards, batteries, docking stations, Bluetooth headsets, data cables, HTC Media Link and XMI Speakers all specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

"I'm excited to announce today that our Motorola Mobility deal has closed," said Larry Page, Google CEO. "Motorola is a great American tech company that has driven the mobile revolution, with a track record of over 80 years of innovation, including the creation of the first cell phone. We all remember Motorola's StarTAC, which at the time seemed tiny and showed the real potential of these devices. As the company who made a big, early bet on Android, Motorola has become an incredibly valuable partner to Google."

While the news of any layoffs under any circumstances is bad news, maybe Google can turn the phone- maker around. Motorola has been in trouble for awhile now. Earlier this month, the company reported a fifth straight quarter of losses including a net loss of $86 million for the first quarter of 2012. In previous consecutive quarters, Motorola reported net losses in the low $80 million area. Motorola hasn’t been able to figure out how to compete with other Android device manufacturers like Samsung and HTC.

Google also announced today that Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha has stepped down and Google executive Dennis Woodside will take over.

    Global roaming on Verizon phones

Verizon’s Motorola DROID 4, DROID RAZR, DROID RAXR MAXX and the HTC Rezound will receive software updates that enable global GSM roaming. It’s surprising how long it’s taken Verizon to enable global roaming, since these handsets were built with radio units already capable of GSM and CDMA connectivity.

Protect your smartphone and tablet devices with the latest innovative protection solutions... stylish top brand bags and sleeves as well as cases and skins specifically designed to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside these brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

The next big questions are what Verizon will charge for the phones and their roaming rates. Global connectivity has never been a bargain, so most people use an inexpensive, temporary GSM phone with a local carrier's SIM while roaming. Maybe Verizon knows something the rest of us don’t.

With the big mobile conference in Las Vegas this coming February that is certainly going to drum up a big buzz for the upcoming 2012 device releases; to this end, you may get inundated in the coming months about what the year will bring. With great mobile innovations like dual-core processors and 4G LTE brought to market in 2011, this year in review was impressive. While hard to trump, the 2012 line-up is being touted as bigger and better.  Here is a snapshot of unlocked cell phones to be dialed into.

    LG Optimus LTE
Smartphones to Keep on Your Radar in 2012 and Other News

LG is looking to break into the 2012 smartphone market with vengeance as some of the LG Cell Phone lineupe rocking the latest in Android OS: 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Using the power of social media, the manufacturer announced via Facebook that in the second quarter of 2012 a number of their LG  Optimus cell phones (the Optimus LTE, Optimus 2X Prada, Optimus Sol, Eclipse and myTouch Q) would have shiny and new Android platforms. Hopefully they will give us more information on up and coming accessories to keep pace with the new technologies.

    Apple iTunes annual giveaways

Unlike the RIM app giveaway that ended December 31st, Apple is continuing their annual download giveaway through January 6th. The free music downloads were kicked off by Coldplay tracks and videos (no surprise as they feature materials from the Apple sponsored festival where the band performed). With the savings on downloads, customers will have a bit more pocket change to invest in an upgraded  screen protector or jazzier protective cases and skins.

    Santa Prefers Apple

With sales numbers coming in, the eCommerce company, RichRelevance, has released numbers that indicate that iPhones and iPads accounted for a whopping 92% of mobile purchases made this December.   Let's not forget the consumer appeal for other Apple devices including MacBook and iPod This is a significant uptick from the numbers released in April 2011 by the same eCommerce firm. A mere eight months ago, the Cupertino based company made up 88% of non-desktop online shopping.  One has to wonder how much that would go up if Apple made unlocked smartphones more available to its adoring public.

    January 3, 2012

With the near release of the Asus Transformer Prime and now the leak of the Acer Iconia Tab A700... the next-generation of Android tablets is upon us.  With the launch of the Iconia Tab A500 Acer gave direct competition to the Motorola Xoom as a sanctioned Android 3.0 tablet.

    Acer Iconia Tab A700 Leak

Where the Acer Iconia A500 saw marginal success... the Iconia A700 will rule in one major way, at least: by being outfitted with a  10.1 inch 1920×1080 pixel screen. Certainly the highest-quality density tablet screen on the market, the A700 is also expected to arrive early next year with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip inside.  The latest trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover an extensive array of award-wining design protective cases and skins deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

For people who go crazy about high definition, the A700 tablet has got a micro-HDMI port. You will also be able to use 3G on the tablet as the A700 features a SIM card slot as well. Users will also be able to take photos and videos on the tablet using the 5 megapixel camera on the tablet, which also has flash.  Discover brand name data cables with the advanced designed engineered to work with the latest wireless and mobile devices.

To power up the tablet and to feature all these features and functions on the tablet, Acer has thrown in a 9,800 mAh battery in the tablet. The company promises 10 hours of battery backup on the tablet on one complete charge. With all these features you would think the tablet will be pretty fat and bulky. But in reality, the tablet is said to be thinner and lighter (at 1.43 pounds) when compared to the older Acer Iconia Tab A200.   Experience an extensive selection of the latest lithium technology replacement cell phone and wireless devices batteries.  Ensure your device is powered by brand name batteries for longer operating life.

    Acer Iconia Tab A700 Leak

Also, the tablet will have the Dolby Digital sound system. This is something which most of the users will love about the tablet. No matter what you do, there is good audio on the tablet for sure.  Re-discover music with XMI Speakers.  Uncompromised sound quality and a revolutionary design accentuating  today's interactive lifestyle.   Experience earpieces and headsets that combine sophisticated style and precision engineering that deliver brilliant sound for your total listening pleasure

As long as Acer keeps the material quality high and ships with Android 4.0, the A700 will sure to be a success. The design looks to be cleaner, darker and overall sleeker than its predecessor, and while it may not equal the lithe profile of the Asus, if the price is right people will flock to it. Or, at least, I will.   Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with their collection of desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers.   Get all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.

    Nokia bids Farewell to Symbian!

The Finnish mobile device manufacturer, Nokia, has not found much success moving from their popular feature phones to the smartphone market. Nokia cell phone's Symbian OS platform has proven to be no match for Android or iOS.  So, in a move that clearly shows their intention to abandon ship, Nokia is dropping the platform and renaming its latest phone Nokia Belle. This effort to catch up with its contemporaries on the technology level adds some zing to the 2012 speculation. Will the adoption of a new platform include the release of a powerful, competitive tablet?

Google Pumps the Brakes on ICS update for Nexus S

Buzz around  the Android 4.0 (ICS) upgrade has brought the anticipation level to high pitch for Samsung Nexus S users around the world. The roll out of the update began a few days ago but has been unexpectedly paused in a multitude of regions. The Google Community Manager, Paul Wilcox, let the masses know in a forum post that the update release for those regions were stopped for the moment as they needed to have feedback monitored. These customers may need to indulge in new mobile  accessories to fill the gap as they wait for their update.  Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool! Pricing for LTE speculated to significantly drop by 2016
New technology is always more expensive. In return, customers get to be a part of the elite club of users, show off their new toys to contemporaries, and bask in the light of innovation. And then, as it becomes more cost effective to manufacture and sell, the prices drop and the technology is made more widely available to the masses. This is the projected case for the 4G LTE networks. Industry leaders indicate that the monthly price for the zippy fast networks should drop approximately 60% by 2016. At the moment 4G LTE handsets are more costly than their 3G counterparts and the pricing structure for 4G data plans through carriers is so expensive that those users inclined to ditch their cable for the 4G will be waiting for the prices to decline even more. In the interim, customers are better served to invest their money in extra desktop chargers or top of the line Bluetooth headsets as well earpieces and headphones.

Acer has long been a key player in the computer world. Their strong showing in the personal computer market space should have indicated a propensity to do well in the tablet market (here is an interesting inforgraphic on Tablet Takeover) the as another “endpoint segment.” So far that is not the case.

Acer Continues to Tackle Tablet Market

2011 saw disappointing sales for the  Acer Iconia Tablet, but they are determined to persevere with tablet releases in 2012. Despite this continuation, there are rumors that Acer may be slowing its tablet production in the upcoming year. Acer’s founder, Stan Shih, did state that they are not following trend s of the rumor mill and the company is not ready to give up on tablets. Also, they will be continuing with their smartphone production and have no projects on the chopping block at the moment in contradiction of recent reports.

Will Acer turn to innovative mobile accessories, such as protective bags, sleeves and cases to boost customer loyalty and sales in an increasingly competitive market? The New Year will bring news of this. The manufacturer may take the route of increasing its user base with unlocked cell phones. Or it may attempt to corner markets with signing exclusivity contracts with carriers. This writer’s take is that the smartphone and tablet manufacturer will be better suited to winning over the hearts and minds of the consumer market than riding the coattails of cellular carriers that are easily and frequently vilified by governments and consumers alike.

The founder made sure to note in his statement to DigiTimes that his Taiwan based company was slow to get its start in the notebook market as well. Taking the slow and steady method, Acer did become one of the world’s most recognizable and top PC vendors. Certainly not a competitor to take out of the race precipitously.

One last reminder: Blackberry readers and users, go get your free gift! A few weeks ago we let you know about some lovely apps being made available free by RIM. A conciliatory action, the manufacturer extended the gift with goodwill to make amends for the service outage that occurred a few months ago.  These thirteen apps are only available through December 31st, so if you are inclined to procrastinate until January 1st, be prepared to pay regular price.  Let the latest trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover an extensive array of award-wining design protective cases and skins that deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look - how cool can you be?

The question remains – will the goodwill gesture help heal some of the debacles of the past year that include the foundation rattling PlayBook jailbreak? Thankfully for RIM, a new year is around the corner where they can continue to make amends and extending positive public relation actions to win back their lost market share.   Re-discover music with XMI Speakers... uncompromised sound quality and a revolutionary design accentuating  today's interactive lifestyle.   Our earpieces and headsets combine sophisticated style and precision engineering that deliver brilliant sound for your total listening pleasure

Luckily in the current mobile technology environment, RIM can make an impact through its tablet offerings, Honeycomb OS release, and the plethora of manufacturer approved accessories that make any Blackberry collection complete.  Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool!  Discover our select accessories such as , as stylus & pens, SD Micro memory cards, batteries, speakers and glider gloves specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

HoHoHo! Blackberry’s Merry… Sorry?Another strategy the flailing Canadian company could take is pursuing the unlocked cell phone market to win over the more discerning customer pool, but with new devices released (and depending on the country they are being released in) there is no saying how that will play out in the coming months for the North American crowd.

All in all, we cannot make commentary on the success of the free apps as it will not end until 2012 is already upon us, but RIM is sure to stay on our radar for what it brings to the table in the coming year (whether it be good, bad or ugly!).

  • BlackBerry Curve 9380 Review
Posted on December 29, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By:  Aldo Panessidi

    December 29, 2011

The BlackBerry Curve 9380 is RIM’s first ever-released Curve with a touch screen. The Curve product line is usually an expression of RIM’s understanding for a budget phone and this one supposedly, doesn’t make a difference. It should attract customers with a lower entry price while offering the full BB OS 7 experience.

Physically the BlackBerry Curve 9380's measurements are a svelte 109mmx60mmx11.2mm with a 3.2 inch display... weighing just 98grams makes the unlocked cell phone very pocket friendly.

The new Curve 9380 is basically a downgraded Torch 9860 – it has a less-capable processor and smaller and low-res display.   The BlackBerry Curve 9380 comes with a standard set of accessories - a USB cable, a wall charger and a set of headphones are provided. In addition there is a complimentary 2GB MicroSD card as well.

The following Blackberry Curve 9380 video provides great user interface insight

The BlackBerry Curve 9380 comes with a fixed-focus single LED flash camera offering the highest resolution of all RIM smartphones.  It does however, have a relatively low number of customizable settings.  The image quality is about average with pleasing colors and a good amount detail.

It is incapable of capturing HD videos due in part to its lower processor clock.   The best it can do is VGA clips at 30 frames per second (fps).  The video quality is up, however overall audio is poor.  Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select, stylus & pens, earpieces & headphones, data cables, desktop chargers, car kits and special glider gloves,  accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

The web browser is fast and responsive, however, it does not support Flash.  It does provide a solid set of organizer tools. Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Discover the latest  innovative protection solutions of stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases designed to allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside brand name protection cases and skins accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

The following is a snapshot of the Curve 9380 full feature list, followed by its disadvantages.

    Key features:

    • 3.2" 16M-color TFT touchscreen of HVGA resolution (360 x 480 pixels)
    • Quad-band GSM support and tri-band 3G with HSDPA
    • Single-core 800MHz processor
    • 512MB RAM
    • BlackBerry OS v7
    • BlackBerry’s proprietary email service and data security
    • Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity
    • GPS receiver and BlackBerry maps preloaded
    • 5 megapixel fixed-focus camera and a LED flash
    • VGA video recording @ 30 fps
    • 150MB of inbuilt storage
    • 2GB MicroSD card pre-bundled
    • Four physical buttons at the bottom
    • Optical trackpad
    • Hot-swappable microSD card slot (up to 16GB)
    • DivX and Xvid video support
    • Office document editor
    • 3.5 mm audio jack
    • Smart dialing
    • Ultra-fast boot times
    • Solid build quality

    Main disadvantages:

    • BlackBerry Internet Service account is a must to enjoy all the phone features
    • No physical QWERTY keyboard (a potential deal breaker for a BlackBerry)
    • No videocalling and no front facing camera either
    • No Flash support for the web browser
    • No FM radio
    • Screen has no haptic feedback
    • Poor audio quality and loudspeaker performance
