  • Touchscreen Sales Continue to Rise
Posted on February 11, 2010 by Pure Mobile

There are some very interesting numbers coming in from Canalys that shows us some info about the sales of touch screen smart phones. This reports shows that over 50% of the smartphones sold around the world have touchscreen features. It is no real surprise that Apple iPhone 3GS unlocked remains the leader, even though they really only have two mobile units. But what is interesting is that Nokia is not that far behind them. This is most certainly putting some pressure on Apple to keep on top of their game. The other companies such as HTC and Samsung still have quite a ways to go to catch up. This should indicate that we will see more touchscreen updates and releases this year. We should also see Samsung increase its market share since they did much better in 2009. The big news is looking at Nokia N900 cell phone and their percentage of increase over their shipments of 2008. We can expect Nokia to make a major presence in the market in the coming months. Does this mean that they will over take Apple? It is hard to say, but 2010 should be a very interesting year for all of the companies.

When we take a look at the OS systems for the smartphones, Symbian is still in the lead, but they did not experience much growth. Apple and Google could both be real contenders on overthrowing Symbian over the next few years. The amazing success of Google Android OS could see them overtaking Microsoft very soon. It must be discouraging for Microsoft to see their market share go done. Hopefully some of their new releases will be exciting enough for them to stay in the game.

It will be interesting to take a look at some of these numbers at the end of this year. We may see some upsets and some very surprising statistics. At the very least, the number of touchscreen phones should go well over 60% of the number of mobile devices sold. This will surely be a great year for the mobile phone industry.

  • Does the iPad Have Flash Browsing?
Posted on January 28, 2010 by Pure Mobile

With all the hype of the new Apple iPad there is one major downside.  There is no flash.  That means any site or game that is flash based will not work on the new iPad

During the press conference on January 27, 2010 someone over at Engadget snapped a photo showing the blue missing plugin icon for a flash object.

    Apple iPad Missing Flash

Granted this is not very unsurprising since the iPhone has never had flash support, but it is still frustrating.  Hopefully in the future Apple will finally.  Adobe posted a blog the other day saying that you can use it for the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

We guess only time will tell

  • Apple iPad
Posted on January 27, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Apple has finally announced the iPad.  The iPad is like a large version of the iPhone.  From the looks of it the iPad seems great.

It's a very simple device and the specs are:

    • 0.5″ thick and 1.5lbs light
    • 9.7″ IPS display, capacitive multitouch touchscreen
    • Built-in accelerometer, mic, 30-pin connector, 802.11n Wi-Fi, compass, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
    • 10 hours of battery life and one month standby time!
    • 1GHz Apple A4 processor
    • 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Flash storage

The better news is that Apple announced the retails prices to be all under $1000.  The Apple iPad should be on the market in the next month or so.

It's official today.  The Apple iPhone has been finally unlocked.  A few months after Apple updated the iPhone to version 3.1 Engadget finally announces that unlock is available.

This means that PureMobile will have unlocked iPhones again soon.  This means that you are no longer tied to a specific carrier.  If you want to change your GSM carrier you can and now bring your iPhone 3Gs with you with you.

  • iPhone Hack Update
Posted on August 3, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So on Friday Apple released an update to the iPhone that patched the exploit/hack we talked about the other day that would let someone gain access to your phone and send messages and control more iPhones.  This exploit was for all iPhones, from the original to the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3Gs.

If you haven't already done so upgrade to the new 3.01 version of the iPhone software so you can avoid becoming a victim of this exploit.

If you have been waiting to upgrade because you are afraid your iPhone will get re-locked don't worry.  According to BoyGenius Reports.com it looks like new unlocking software has been released.

    Happy iPhone

  • Rumoured iPhone Exploit
Posted on July 30, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So it looks like there is a major exploit set to wreck havoc on the Apple iPhone.  This is for all Apple iPhones.  Wired.com is reporting on it and they are saying that "a hacker could control all the functions on the iPhone, such as e-mailing, dialing contacts — and, most alarmingly, sending more text messages to hijack even more iPhones." This is really scary since from the sounds of it the person who hacks into your phone basically can do anything they want with your phone remotely.

The only thing you can do to prevent it apparently is turn off your iPhone and you know that you are being hacked if you receive a text message with a single square character according to Forbes.

At this point Apple has not issued any patch to prevent the exploit or commented on it as far as anyone has seen.  Also please remember as was stated in the Wired article "researchers informed Forbes of the SMS exploit, it’s worth noting they did not demonstrate it to Forbes."  So until we actually see someones Apple iPhone or 3GS get hacked or Apple confirm it we have to say take it with a grain of salt.

  • US soldiers deployed in Iraq can now get language assistance from an iPhone or Blackberry.  Sakhr Software, a company specializing in translation software, is porting its translation technology to work on mobile smart phone devices. It recently developed a tool for the iPhone to enable speech to speech translation. What this means is that you could speak directly into the phone in English and have the phone speak back to you in Arabic.  Furthermore, it displays the translation in both Arabic and English characters allowing you to attempt to pronounce it correctly.  Quite impressive!!

    [/youtube]

For the time being, it seems that the technology had been built to serve the US Department of Defense, to help bridge the communication gap between deployed soldiers and locals of the Middle East and ensure diplomacy is preserved in the field as well as avoid accidents due to miscommunication.  We can't wait to see this available to the civilian market where anyone can tour any street in a small town in say Egypt, and be able to communicate directly with the locals.

  • iPhone 3Gs Unlock Available Soon
Posted on July 3, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So it's been done, at least from what we read on sites like BoyGeniusReport.com, there is finally an unlock and jailbreak for the Apple iPhone 3Gs.  This means that you will no longer be forced to use your new iPhone 3Gs one AT&T or more importantly you can by one and use it with any GSM service world wide.

The amazing thing is that the unlock was released by Geohotz.  That's right the same guy who unlocked the original Apple iPhone way back in August 2007.

So where does that leave us?  Well hopefully that means we, at PureMobile, will be able carry the unlocked iPhone 3Gs at a great price.  For now get all your accessories from Griffin Car Chargers and Wall Chargers to iSkin iPhone covers from us

  • iPhone Accessories
Posted on June 11, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So a little more follow up on yesterday's post.  With everyone complaining about the Apple iPhone 3Gs not being a real big change from, but what people aren't realizing is how this is actually a good thing.  A lot of people complained when Apple changed the iPhone to the Apple iPhone 3G and changed size and where some of the buttons were, which meant any accessories people invested in while they had the original were no longer able to fit the new one.  This meant everyone had to buy new accessories.

That means all those Apple iPhone 3G iSkin Accessories will still work with the new iPhone 3Gs.  So all those Solo and Solo FX skins will still work and so will the Revo2 skins and the Duet belt clip

So as much as people complain there are some good things and we, at PureMobile, aren't just talking about the new features about the Apple iPhone 3Gs we are talking about not having to buy all new accessories.
