  • As time goes our demands from mobile internet is increasing and we want to get the much dreamed about levels of 500 MHz for mobile broadband. However this is still a distant dream as it will take around 10 years to achieve this. However the short term gains that we are getting are pretty good either ways. FCC has set a target to reach the level of 300 MHz within the next three years and is working towards just that. Some time back in the previous month, FCC had expressed their intentions of grabbing the 90 MHz spectrum of the Big Leo and had caused many discussions about what would happen to the 35 MHz band which was there.

The most exciting thing about this is that all these large bandwidths that we are talking about are exclusively for mobile broadband internet. The news we mentioned above is old, however more recently FCC has shown their interests in working with MSS which is also known as Mobile Satellite  and get the 90 MHz service bands which have the 2 GHz bad and the L-band along with the Big Leo of course. What all this means in a nut shell is that the mobile broadband industry will be expanding at a higher rate now as every small addition assists in acting as a filler for the 500 MHz width that is set aside.

Other than this, we have also received news that Clearwire has been given an extension for its primary trading zones to be completed in Florida. As per the reports that we have got, Clearwater had been asked to exchange some of the 2.5 GHz licenses in the Boca Raton Areas of West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale in Miami. This was supposed to happen much before but did not due to the high amount of licenses needed in the areas above.

  • The major news in the software market is that Microsoft Bing will soon be incorporated into Android. This is expected to be accomplished within the next six weeks and is indeed a big talking point.

The software is not a new one and is already found in Apple’s Unlocked iPhone 4. It is particularly useful when it comes to browsing through web, and locating places using the mapping of the software. It has quite a few interesting features. Microsoft Bing is already partially present in Android but the version being talked about here is a much advanced version which has possibilities of image search as well.

What remains a point of interest is that by joining in with Android, they are making a move to remove their biggest rival in this particular market, Google. Google is well known for its capabilities as a search engine and most people use Google habitually. It is indeed quite impossible to topple Google of this stronghold no matter how useful Microsoft Bing may be. Hence, Microsoft Bing combining with Motorola Milestone Unlocked Android handset  has raised several eyebrows.

Microsoft Bing, nevertheless, will try and give competition to Google and maybe if they are made into default application in mobile web browsing, they might actually benefit from this. Mobile searching is actually a forum where Bing can actually be a force to reckon with. Google will obviously realize the threat and improve a few things to counter this move by Bing and they have adequate support and ability to keep Bing away.

In this battle for supremacy, both parties are working on improving themselves in various ways like Microsoft upgrading their search services to include Image recognition facility and there has always been a tendency to move towards addition of social networking. All this builds up for a fascinating rivalry.

  • It has been a regular trend that Android devices are rooted before they are officially introduced. US variants of Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S are set to follow suit. Samsung Galaxy S seems to have managed to get rooted already and it is sure to be of great attraction. This indicates the fact that the Vibrant can be got and rooted as early as tomorrow. This is quite sensational news for many. LeshaK of Samdroid is considered the first to be able to get root access to the Samsung Galaxy S. XDA also has been instrumental in getting this to work with US versions.

This has made Vibrant even more attractive and appealing. It has a great look which is highly persuasive and it can be easily packed with a custom Android 2.2 Froyo ROM. This is what makes it a super innovative device and sets it apart from the rest. Additional qualities are also present.

With assistance of the root method, it is possible to run new software in phones like Samsung Unlocked (TouchWiz) if you are not happy with the present softwares, It is known that there has been custom ROM for the original Samsung Galaxy S for quite some time now, however, it has so far not been tested on a US model.

The root is quite easy and is almost as simple as connecting the device to a computer. By just starting a file, you will have access to some root-only applications which are tremendously classy. It is an amazing process. Galaxy S variants are quickly spreading and although it will never manage to be the best around, it may be quite close to securing that position. They have been efficient is getting thus far and it wouldn’t be surprising if they manage to lead the pack in the near future.

  • Well if you are looking to get into the Android market for smartphones this summer, then you are up for some hard competition as two major mobile phones which are coming into the market. Both these phones are set to be Android OS super smart phones and have specs which are to die for. The smartphones that we are talking about here are the Unlocked Motorola Droid (X) from Verizon and the HTC EVO 4G which will be carried by Sprint. As we said, both these phones have great common features of the nature of a 1 GHz processor and HDMI output along with 8 megapixel camera which are just some of the basic specs that we are talking about. Let’s look at the features of these two phones more in depth.

In terms of the operations, both are pretty equally matched and have full HD output in 720p onto any kind of monitor. There are however some differences in the features of these phones which are pretty noteworthy. In terms of the home keys and the sheer size, the Droid X is a bigger phone. Although thinner, this phone is taller than its competitor. Furthermore, the EVO uses touch sensitive home keys which are in stark contrast to the rather flimsy buttons on the Droid X’s interface. Furthermore both phones have a cushioned touch but EVO feels rather spongy. Both the phones have the Android 2.1 OS but they have much contrasting UI. The Droid X on the Verizon features the new Motorola Unlocked ( MotoBlur) UI while the EVO has the very popular Sense UI. There are certain apps which work differently on both the phones.

Other than this, the dialer on the EVO 4G is more user friendly as compared to the Droid which does not offer the contact guessing feature.

  • We did have major reports that the CyanogenMod 6 will be coming out on the Sprint Unlocked HTC  EVO 4G Phone. However we did not really have much of a time frame attached with the release but as per what we have seen recently, the CM 6 is ready and is running pretty well on the EVO 4G.  This is a welcome change from the Sense UI which in our opinion was getting somewhat cumbersome and posing a large number of problems for the users, Although the Sense UI has been a worth service provider for the user but the in built Android UI is far easier to use as compared to this one. This however is a departure from what is was before.

We believe that the CyanogenMod 6 will grant the EVO owners a great feel for the Android 2.2  phone or the Froyo and allow them to escape the HTC custom skin on the Sense UI.  In fact the faster the new ROM is launched on the EVO, the faster it can get the update for the Froyo which it could not have done otherwise. The release date for the update was around Christmas. In a statement given by the company, they have said that they would prefer picking the early release of the Froyo on their phone almost half a year ahead of time, to sticking with the Sense UI. Furthermore what has pushed this decision of theirs is the fact that CM 6 other than getting Froyo out early on the HTC EVO 4G also has great amounts of features like the facility which allows you to pair it with a mouse via Bluetooth. What you can do is you can then connect the video output through a HDMI port and you have a proverbial computer on your hands. This is amazing in our opinion. According to us, it is not long till we see this update and more in the market.

  • Qt Developer Network Launched
Posted on July 21, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Qt has quietly launched the Qt Developer Network in Beta and offers the usual content such as blogs, wiki, forums and Fads that are available in any standard site for developers. But reading the blogs available in the site, you get to learn that in the near future they have plans of including Ovi account integration, groups, eLearning content, a books section and videos on your phone. All this is said to be done with the clear intention of bringing more developers on board.

Nokia, the owner of Qt has taken a different route with this approach because clearly it was earlier thought to be unlikely of the electronics mogul to create a separate site for its developers, one which is not part of the Nokia Forum although it still remains to be on Nokia’s domain. Now there might be an answer as to why Nokia decided to make the site go solo. Although nothing can be said with surety, Nokia has some strategies one of which is the “attract developers” strategy which is all very complex but might be where the answer to the above question lies. The two platforms that Qt supports namely the Symbian and MeeGo has other licensees such as Sony Ericsson Unlocked handsets, but these users linking articles on a site that has brand Nokia all over it like the Forum Nokia, is unthinkable. This is the closest that one can guess to be the reason behind Nokia’s innovative decision.

Since the Qt supports and works on two platforms-the Symbian and the MeeGo and also works on smartphones running other operating systems along with this, Nokia has high expectations surrounding this venture and sources from inside the company also says that they expect to dominate developer site market with this venture. But that again is a different story and only the future will tell what is in store for them.

  • In this highly mobile world, trends that have just kicked in are gotten rid off immediately and a much newer trend is then adopted. With the Unlocked Droid ( X) from Motorola and Incredible from HTC covering the elite section of Verizon’s smartphones, the older ones such as Droid, which hits its eight month, and Devour, which hits five, are taking the back seats. Although Verizon will still continue selling both their products, Motorola will be pulling back their any further supplies. So make sure to decide fast if you want your Unlocked Motorola handset because these stacks are soon to be cleared for fresher stocks to arrive. Like the former mentioned Motorola, a few others will be soon following suit, and in the mad rush to aim for the better and newer and more sought after models, these too will also be shown the door.

The 9630 tours by BlackBerry did not make it to the cut like Motorola’s Droid X and will soon be cleared from most stores. As mentioned previously all precedent older mobiles, which have already had their fill of success in the market will soon be out. The Blackberry Unlocked  9650 Tour will be replaced by Bold 9650 accompanied by the much sought after Nokia Twist. Samsung’s feature phones too have been treated the same way as they lost the crunch, although that was always expected. These changes are a sure sign that no longer will phones be tolerated as only newer models of cell  phones are being sought after by customers. The Droid on one hand drove a heavily successful campaign in the advertisement world, which ensured their stay.

The need to replace older stock models can be easily seen from the fact that many customers plan on purchasing newer models instead of older ones as newer models usually have better features.

  • As the big names in the world fight it out amongst themselves, every step they take defines the future of the company. Even the slightest mistake can be catastrophic in nature for them. And even the biggest names are not devoid of errors. Apple had so far been basking in their own glory, with the new Apple iPhone 4 causing quite a stir in the technological world. And still they found themselves in a tough spot when they earlier acknowledged the fact that the unlocked  iPhone 4 was far from perfect and that the antennae was the cause behind all problems although it did manage to sell over three million sets. While the engineers from Apple are trying to work out a possible solution to this predicament, Apple on the other hand is ready to compensate for their folly and is trying to provide consolation by means of free iPhone cases. In short, if you are facing similar problems then Apple would be more than happy to provide a case for no cost at all, including free shipping charges. According to us, although such mobile cases are not the same as an iPhone, it is at least something, which is better than nothing.

To add to their consolation list they are also offering a whole variety of choices to those who are entirely unsatisfied with the whole deal and think that providing free cases is not enough. For them Apple is willing to give hundred percent refunds if they return the iPhone to them within a month of their purchase date. And since that month is not yet over that would imply that anyone who bought it will be eligible for the return. If you are thinking otherwise, a free case for your iPhone 4 unlocked handset sounds tempting enough. In fact it’s not a bad deal, right? Surely a case would eat away a little on the glam quotient but it would still be a lot easier for you as data transfer becomes faster than it currently is. In all probability, the case would be one that you will like, as has been the trend with Apple products.

  • One cannot really hate the promotional work that T-Mobile does and we too are also becoming fans of this network. Recently the company had launched a new plan where they offered the entire line of cell phones for free. Now the company has come with a new deal where you can get the Unlocked Motorola ( Charm ) which comes with the Android OS for free by signing with them on the family plan. Even if you are not a part of any family, you can get this phone via the back to school offer that the company will be giving.

On the downside, the Charm phone is not really very high on specs phone and one should not really look for getting much out of it. While there are not many great features, you will get the minimum out of this phone which itself is said to be a messaging phone. However, we feel that if T-Mobile does not cash in on this phone soon enough then they might lose out on some revenues that they might have gotten.

In terms of pricing, again this unlocked phone is offered for free against the customary two year contract that one has to sign with the service provider. The price of a phone like the Charm can easily range up to around $100 and since you are getting this phone for as much as $0 then you can definitely have no qualms about paying extra for the contract you would have to sign.

We strongly believe that T-Mobile should really consider making this plan a permanent one as this may just keep the flow of the customers coming into their bandwagon. The phone is nothing much to write home about but we do recommend it just because of the plan that the good people at T-Mobile are offering us.

  • It might not be a pretty smooth move but Windows have decided to use their own shortcomings to take a dig at their competitors Apple. With the release of the Windows Phone 7, the company decided to take a few pot shots at their primary market competitor Apple, for the problems they were facing with the unlocked iPhone 4 and its reception. In a recent event, the chief operating officer of Microsoft, Kevin Turner, remarked that the Apple iPhone can become their Vista and that Microsoft was happy about it. Furthermore, he also said that with the Windows Mobile 7, the customer would not have to hold it a certain way to use it.

These remarks are not very different from what is going on around the market but according to the market trends, the sales of the iPhone 3GS Unlocked Handset are not really down. The device has already sold over 1.7 million sets all over the world and there is no sign of the sales slowing down. Even as a lot of the techs review and such companies are chucking their recommendations for the iPhone 4 unlocked gadget, the iPhone is selling like hotcakes around the world. These comments though were made at a Microsoft event which focused largely on their new Windows 7 phone which we think is a hit in waiting for the software giant. Personally we feel that Microsoft should concentrate on what they are doing with their phone rather than attacking Apple.

The interface on this phone looks nice and goes a long way from the previous designs and the layout of the icons are very easy to use and does a lot for the users. Navigation is also quite user friendly. The only thing we can do for now is to just wait for it to release in the market.
