Griffin Survivor
  • Valentine’s Day may be long gone, but the spirit of love seems to still be there with Sprint, who are giving their Premier Customers the opportunity to reserve their own Unlocked Samsung ( Epic 4G). While others will have to wait for some time to get a chance to be able to reserve the Epic 4G for themselves, this is one opportunity that the Premier Customers of Sprint would just hate to pass on. If you are one of those few, lucky enough to be Premier Customers of Sprint check the inboxes of your e-mail accounts as soon as you can, so that you don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Now, we do know that many of you technology freaks out there have been eyeing the Epic 4G ever since the announcement of its launch. Sprint has put out a comparison just for those fans, which pits the Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC EVO 4G. Although Android is the common feature of both the devices, EVO trumps the Epic with the latest version of the Google platform on board, and is also WiMax enabled. The Epic has a QWERTY keypad that slides out where as the EVO’s keypad is on board the screen itself, that functions on touch. The EVO, however, will cost you around $199, which is not so bad for all the features that it offers. Again, the Epic 4G will push you back by $249, (the rates are after rebate) which raises a very basic question. Is it worth paying the additional $50 for a phone that just offers a few extra features and because it is a variant of the Samsung Unlocked Galaxy S? Critics say it would not be a bad investment either; however, a few more adjustments would have made it much more tempting.

  • The Android has arrived! Well technically it arrived a long time back when Google officially released it, but the sales report figures now prove that Google Android has indeed arrived. Brace yourselves people, Google Android sales have beaten figures for the Apple unlocked iPhone4 globally. Need a bigger shock still? Google Android sales have also beaten sales figures for the BlackBerry in the United States. The Android invasion is on! The numbers in all practicality are not very surprising, since several research firms confirm that Android sales are going very strong indeed. Android devices according to Gartner have had 10.6 million sets shipped out into the market this quarter, clearly edging out iOS to be placed third overall, which culminates to close to 17.2% of the market share. What inspires awe is the fact that this is in fact a growth of 850% for Android in a matter of one year.

Android’s incredible sale figures this quarter is dedicated to the fact that it managed availability across several mobile operators, that too on numerous mobile devices. It has been powering pretty high-profile, high end devices like the Samsung unlocked Galaxy S mobile devices and the HTC EVO 4G.

A report says that Apple sold around 9 million iPhones this quarter, which culminates to 14.2% share of the mobile market. Out of this the unlocked iPhone 4, itself had sold three million sets in a matter of 3 weeks. Apple, despite not having the biggest market share still posts a higher profit from sales because of the higher profit margin per device it holds out. Before we end up too excited with Google Android or with the Apple iPhone, we would do well to note that RIM and Nokia are still on top of the mobile mountain, when it comes to pure market share. Till date Symbian OS is still the most popular platform for smartphones in the world today commanding close to 41.2% share of the market, with BlackBerry posting a share of 18.2%.

  • The race is on to have the first working 4G network in USA, between MetroPCS, the little operator that could, and Verizon Wireless, while WiMAX is out of the question. During its last news conference, Chief Executive Officer Roger Linquist provided some information: Samsung SCH-r900 that is exceptionally difficult to pronounce and even more difficult to write, is the Samsung Craft. Its price is likely to be around $300. Though the operating system of the phone is currently not known, our guess is that it’s running Android.

The LTE network will launch initially in two markets: Dallas Fort Worth region of Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada, said Linquist. Just to inform you of how little of a company MetroPCS is, the number of customers is just 7 million, comparing that to Verizon’s 92 million customers which is more than 13 times of MetroPCS, and it becomes clear the difficulty Verizon faces to get their network functioning. Early 2011 is the expected time for the upgrade to LTE.

Nothing was mentioned about expected speeds of the cell phone. Verizon is expecting their LTE network to transfer data at rates of 6 to 12 megabits per second; on the other hand Clearwire is expected to deliver speeds of 20 to 70 megabits per second. 10 megabits per second is the speed T-Mobile with HSPA+ is providing today and according to rumours, their upgrade will result in producing speeds double or triple of what they are producing now.

With latencies much lower than preceding wireless technology, it’s also snappier, thus speed isn’t the only positive side of LTE. It is also much more capable in connecting more customers to towers already in place. These little improvements should accumulate to create a wireless experience that is miles ahead of what’s already available.

After Sweden and Norway, Japan is expected to get LTE in December and if things move smoothly as planned America doesn’t look much far behind either!

  • As the release of the Unlocked Motorola Droid has caught the attention of the entire world of the smartphone, we have got reports that Samsung and carriers Verizon Wireless are engaged in finalizing their agreement where they will release the Fascinate which is Verizon’s version of the Galaxy S and Gem which are the two most popular Android phones which are currently out in the market.  We have got some great details of the release and more which we can tell you about. Above all, one needs to know that these phones have succeeded in a major way in the international market and this release with Verizon is just going to put it at a notch higher than what it was for this phone. Sales are expected to be higher because of this fact that people are already pretty familiar with this phone and therefore are well aware of the specs for this device.

Other major networks in the country are also pretty much hyped about the release of the Samsung Unlocked Galaxy S (variants) where there have been carriers like T-Mobile who are have already come up with their variations of the Galaxy S. The T-Mobile Vibrant and the AT&T Captivate are some of the variants which are there in the market. As for the Verizon variant, this phone has specs which are pretty similar to the other ones. The most eye catching feature will definitely be the WVGA super AMOLED screen and the 5 megapixel camera without forgetting the pretty strong 1GHz Hummingbird processor. You will also get the capability to record 720p HD video and the Android 2.1 platform with the Touchwiz 3.0 UI is however slightly changed for the Verizon as it now comes with a metallic body which just adds to the look of the phone. We however do not know much about the Gem which is set to launch with Verizon only in September.

  • Alien Babel Tech recently discovered that the HTC Vanguard, a T-Mobile operating with a HSPA+ network has a speed, which surpasses many other networks. The man who presented the benchmark at first place was Mike Bibik, a Senior Interaction Designer for T-mobile. This high-speed crazy machine has two other names like G1 Blaze Vision and Glacier. Other high-speed smartphones in the market are the Samsung Unlocked Galaxy S and the iPhone 4. When compared with the HTC Vanguard, these two phones scored 50% less than the HTC Vanguard in terms of CPU and GPU performance. A fast GPU and CPU obviously offer the users fast net connections on the phone.

This high speed facilitates browsing and downloading and thus makes phone web an enjoyable experience for its users. Earlier even if smartphones had amazing resolution and most of the key features downloading speed on the phone was very low. Thus they could not raise much in the markets. Now with highly compatible application desired speed is available on an Android Operating System. Also to increase the battery life of the phones microSIM cards have been developed. These are greatly reduced versions in terms of size.

Once the SIM card size gets reduced developers can get an opportunity to increase the battery size. This will offer longer browsing hours on the phone. These microSIM chips have been designed from 45 nm transistors and the next version promises to make it even smaller! The price of this device has not yet been finalized. One thing is that after getting high ratings on the net speed the price is expected to be pretty high and so it might not be economical for all classes of the society. Nevertheless this new HTC Vanguard phone definitely is a contribution to the world of today’s smartphones.

  • Rumor has it that T-Mobile is all set to launch their new MyTouch 3G as anticipated as an Android phone are rearing up making it count by getting started in the blog world. This new gadget could actually mark the company’s first real and serious move in releasing handsets which the carrier’s 4G networking, which has enough material in it to outdo Sprint’s 4G offerings. There has been a rumored image leak of what the new MyTouch 3G might look like came with a leaked photo and as the rumor exists this might just be the same that is all set to make its launch. Some might differ in their opinions that T-Mobile was getting serious on the Android smartphones with their Samsung Vibrant which is a variant of the Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S handsets by T-Mobiles, but when you consider the fact that every other carrier is taking aid of the same family in getting a device, it would be very difficult to actually consider that the offers presented by Magenta was good enough to make its own mark.

Before the Vibrant actually came along, the only handsets that were anywhere near good were HTC HD2, which despite their Windows Mobile operating system made quite a run and the Slide MyTouch which was powered by Android and seriously none had enough fire in them to compete in the recent market scenario. And if the rumors are true them this new release by T-Mobile, the MyTouch 3G will spearhead Magenta’s initiative in such unlocked handsets. As the leaked pictures might suggest the MyTouch 3G looks quite similar to Slide. The screen on it is arguably larger than that of Slide’s and might just touch the four inch milestone. And there is a fat chance that SLCD display will get a role to play in this phone. Among the other features that count, it has a front camera and a normal QWERTY keypad which is a slide out one. As this new handset is all set to blaze off into the market, its success can only be speculated.

  • The Unlocked iPhone 4 has a new and very formidable competitor in the Samsung Vibrant which is the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung S Galaxy that you might not have heard of. This phone is a very good choice for the person who wants to buy a strong smartphone and in fact we feel that this phone might just have the capacity to swing some of the potential buyers of the iPhone to their favor. This device is a great asset to the T-Mobile carrier and it will surely dissuade many people from switching to AT&T with the Apple iPhone 4. We are pretty excited to have the chance to sample this phone for ourselves and we can say that we are impressed.

The design of the Samsung unlocked Galaxy S which T-Mobile went for is more closely related to the original phone’s look and we feel they have done the right thing here. The screen of the phone is the new and very exciting super AMOLED screen and the capacitive navigation buttons caught our attention. It also has dedicated volume keys which make this phone look really smooth. However the phone’s more visible bezel makes this less sleek as compared to the Captivate. As for the hardware, other than the AMOLED screen, its 5 megapixel camera, 16 GB built in memory and microSD card input slot. There is also Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 other than these. The memory card on this phone can be taken out and replaced without having to take the battery out or reboot this phone, which save the users from a lot of hassle.

The Android 2.1 adorns this phone and is good enough for now. The skin is the Samsung S Life User Interface and you can play around with it. Other than this, there are a number of other features you must look forward to in this great device.

  • It has been a regular trend that Android devices are rooted before they are officially introduced. US variants of Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S are set to follow suit. Samsung Galaxy S seems to have managed to get rooted already and it is sure to be of great attraction. This indicates the fact that the Vibrant can be got and rooted as early as tomorrow. This is quite sensational news for many. LeshaK of Samdroid is considered the first to be able to get root access to the Samsung Galaxy S. XDA also has been instrumental in getting this to work with US versions.

This has made Vibrant even more attractive and appealing. It has a great look which is highly persuasive and it can be easily packed with a custom Android 2.2 Froyo ROM. This is what makes it a super innovative device and sets it apart from the rest. Additional qualities are also present.

With assistance of the root method, it is possible to run new software in phones like Samsung Unlocked (TouchWiz) if you are not happy with the present softwares, It is known that there has been custom ROM for the original Samsung Galaxy S for quite some time now, however, it has so far not been tested on a US model.

The root is quite easy and is almost as simple as connecting the device to a computer. By just starting a file, you will have access to some root-only applications which are tremendously classy. It is an amazing process. Galaxy S variants are quickly spreading and although it will never manage to be the best around, it may be quite close to securing that position. They have been efficient is getting thus far and it wouldn’t be surprising if they manage to lead the pack in the near future.

  • We, like, several mobile phone enthusiasts have heard about the rumors of the Samsung Galaxy i9200 or the Unlocked Galaxy ( S2 ) which was supposed to be carrying specifications which would make it probably the best phone that ever existed. However, after doing some research by ourselves, we are led to believe that this phone might just not be reality but a big hoax. This is equally difficult for all of us as even we were very excited after hearing about the Galaxy S2. If this is to release, god only knows what the costs are going to be of this one.

Some of the specifications on this phone are downright astounding. The super AMOLED 2 screen which is said to be coming on this phone is honestly too much of a long shot. After the huge success of the first line of the super AMOLED screen, Samsung has been flooded with the demands for the latter. Therefore it is highly unlikely that they will be going in for a revamp of it any time now, rather by early 2011 which was when this phone was supposed to come out. This is not the end of the worries for this phone. The huge read only memory which has been quoted for this phone is pegged at 4 GB, which is absurd. Why would a phone carry this kind of memory?

The Google’s Unlocked  Nexus One which is a kind of a leader in terms of smartphones will be left far behind if the specs given above along with others like 32 GB internal and 32 GB expandable memory are allowed. For a one year leap in development, these kinds of specifications are a little too much suspect.  However with all the controversies aside, there have also been arguments which say that this kind of development may just be possible at the speed of the work which is being done today.

  • Although the Unlocked  Samsung S Galaxy has released and we have seen it a number of times, the Vibrant has just been released on the T-Mobile. It has been released just a short time back and will be out on the Android platform. The design of this phone will be as the standard Samsung Galaxy S model. The Vibrant will have a small bump on the back and carry the Android four key lay out rather than the standard three key set up. The Vibrant is one of the most loaded phones in terms of features and the apps that it will be carrying.

This Android Device has been dubbed as the closest to phone with the features which are the closest to the performance of the iPhone 4 Unlocked gadget  in terms of the output features. The features on this phone which really makes it stand out, is the neat Hummingbird processor and the brilliant super AMOLED display which is the closest that one can get to the Retina Display that the iPhone 4 has. In fact, if initial responses are to be considered, this display is one of the most striking features of this phone. We were also very impressed with the sunlight testing that we did ourselves. The Hummingbird processor is well complimented by the Samsung TouchWiz UI which is a much more advanced form of the software that was provided on the Samsung Behold 2. The Samsung Vibrant is probably the best phones from the Android line in recent times.

Although the process speed is pretty fast and good on this phone, there is still something missing. The durable feel is still lacking on this phone as was the case with many of the other releases by Samsung. However, this is hardly a deterrent as the phones which were released were not the production models, one only hopes that Samsung cleans up the probable flaws in this otherwise great phone.
