  • Samsung Offers Hands On For Galaxy Tab
Posted on February 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 got a lot of attention at the World Mobile Congress, and hands on events were given to all of the major blogs within the space. The device is an amazing tablet, and may be the nicest on the market. The dimensions are ideal for tablet use, and the device itself looks great.

It comes with a 10.1 inch screen and a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution display. The rear facing camera is eight megapixel, making it more powerful than most camera phones on the market. It also has a 2 megapixel front facing camera that will allow you to video chat with loved ones and friends. It runs on a Tegra 2 processor, and will run on Android 3.0. Since Android 3.0 is still in its development stage, you can bet that things will be ironed out and the device will run even faster once the software version is finalized.

The refresh rate of the screens was great, and no lag was noticeable. Although Honeycomb is not released yet, it looks as though it will be a great operating system that should meet the demands of just about an tablet out there.

The 10 inch form factor screen is the perfect size for a tablet and makes it easy to transport from one location to another. the smooth design, perfect size and high powered specs have made the Samsung Galaxy Tab unlocked highly anticipated since it was first announced - and for a good reason - it is an excellent device that should compete with the iPad and other big tablet devices in the coming weeks and months. The eight megapixel camera surpasses expectations and the front facing camera seals the deal.

  • In this unlocked cell phone world, most take electricity for granted, until they go camping or the power goes out. Everyone has been placed in situations when they are stuck with a dead phone and have no way to charge it. Imagine never having to subject yourself to situations like that one again when you use the Umeox Apollo, which is a solar powered phone.

The device was announced at the Mobile World Congress. There have been a number of previously released solar powered devices that also run on Android in the past, but never has one of these phones been as outwardly impressive as the Umeox Apollo.

So far there is no information on whether or not it will even be released in the United States or anywhere in North America. The Chinese manufacturer has remained tight lipped about the phone. Some rumors have stated that the company is working on two different versions of the phone including one that will work in the US and support 850/1900 MHz bands (which would allow the phone to work with AT&T), and one version that would allow the phone to work in Europe and Asia.

The specs of the phone are a bit underpowered. It will feature a 3.2” 320x480 Display, with over a gigabyte of storage inside the phone as well as a microSD card slot.

The phone will also come with a three megapixel rear camera, which is a bit underpowered given the current market. The company did warn users not to kill the battery completely. Charging for daily usage would only need about 2.5 hours of sun light, if the phone is sitting in the sun and not being used. However, after completely dying, the phone would need about 17 hours to charge.

  • Firefox 4 Beta Released for Android
Posted on February 3, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Are you a fan of the Firefox browser on Android devices? If so, then you might be interested in giving test driving the fourth version of Firefox for Android machines such as HTC Desire unlocked, Samsung Captivate i897, etc. Keep in mind that Firefox may not be the most popular - or most stable browser for the devices, but it has managed to garner a huge following that swear by it.

Mozilla knows that the data networks bottlenecking and adding extra seconds onto loading time is a big deal for most consumers who have grown accustomed to instant gratification when searching the web. They have toned down on the heaviness of their previous Firefox releases with Firefox 4, and have made the newest release completely about an increase in speed. They claim that the newest build of the browser will allow you to surf the web over three times faster than it did before. This information was obtained using the Kraken Javascript Benchmark, which is actually built by Mozilla so the results might be a little skewed, but it is good to see that Mozilla is focusing mostly on speed in the same way that Chrome did when it first came out.

In the SunSpider test, which is a more popular platform that is not designed by Mozilla, Firefox 4 tends to be about twice as fast as the previous versions. Of course, you probably won’t notice the split second difference unless you are using Firefox 4 during heavily trafficked times of the day.

Mozilla has also passed a total of 100 add on for mobile devices, which exponentially increases the feature list of the browser. Bringing their famous add-ons to their mobile browser is something that has attracted many of their desktop users that missed the functionality that they were used to having on their desktops. Some of these add ons include Ad Block Plus and User Agent Switcher, both of which are already stable and are running without any major issues according to tests and user reports thus far.

  • T-Mobile has released information about the highly anticipated LG G-Slate, just days after information regarding the Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant 4G announcement. The tablet was first shown just over a month ago at the Consumer Electronics Show, and will be available to consumers in the spring. The device will have some very interesting capabilities that should allow it to be one of the more popular devices on the market.

The LG G-Slate will include a high definition 8.9 inch display that is capable of multi-touch technology. It will also be able to record 3D and full HD video, which is not something that we have previously seen from a tablet. It appears that the entry level tablet era has come and gone and now manufacturers are competing to include as many features as possible in their most recent announcements. The inclusion of these features should make the LG G-Slate one of the most highly anticipated tablets on the market during this upcoming spring.

The device will also feature 720p HD video playback straight from the device as well as an HDMI output that will allow for 1080p HD content to be played on HD displays. As far as hardware goes, the G-Slate will feature a dual-core, NVIDIA Tegra 2 Processor that comes complete with 32GB of storage and will run on the Google Android 3.0, also known as Honeycomb, operating system. The tablet should start to gain momentum now that it has been announced, and could potentially take on some of the biggest names in the space, including the Motorola Xoom, when it is finally released.

The fact that the tablet will be able to play high definition content on 3D TV’s should draw in users that own these television sets. So far, no tablet even similar to the LG Unlocked (G-Slate) has been announced thus far. It will certainly be interesting to see how well the tablet is able to perform in the first hands on testing sessions once we get a little bit closer to its release.

  • As per one of the leading Unlocked Cell Phone Blog Site, Sprint has announced that they will be now allowing customers to roam abroad on 4G networks where they are available. The roaming so far is limited to Digicel, which is located in Jamaica, and Global Mobile, which is currently located in Taiwan. The devices will utilize the Sprint SmartView Connection Manager, which will allow the devices to detect when they are within reach of the networks. They will be able to connect to the roaming service utilizing a 24 hour day long pass for just $14.99. The announcement makes Sprint the first company to offer international 4G Roaming.

The partnership goes to show that Sprint is committed to advancing their 4G support where applicable. The manager will allow for users to also utilize their Sprint connection, or international 4G roaming connection to connect to their desktops as well.

“We are excited to be Sprint’s first 4G roaming partner in Asia and looking forward to extending this alliance to our partners around the world,” said Rosemary Ho, who is the CEO of Global Mobile.

The partnership is the first of its kind to involve 4G networks and will allow for users to internationally roam on 4G networks. The current Sprint 4G network is found in 71 different markets in the Untied States. These markets include some very large cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Houston and New York City. Sprint has continually expanded their 4G coverage, and is expected to continue their rapid expansion rate well into 2011.

Although their international 4G roaming features are limited, you can take this announcement as the first of more to come that will hopefully expand their 4G coverage to other areas of the globe in the coming months. Digicel is currently offering 4G coverage in more than 32 different markets across the Caribbean, and Central America.

  • In this day and age,  fixed line phones have become understandably less popular. However, that doesn’t mean that businesses and some individuals are still not going to look for fixed line solutions. A Japanese telecom company called Nakayo recently announced that they will be releasing an IP Home Phone that comes complete with an integrated 7 inch Android tablet like Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Tab. This allows users to receive a call and pick up the handset in order to speak.

If you would like to make a call, all you have to do is pick up the handset and use the touch screen tablet device that is connected to the handset in order to make a call.  You also will not have to use the handset in order to make a call. Instead, you can take the tablet out of the device, walk around with it, and speak into the microphone, all while using the Android tablet to complete other tasks.

The tablet will be able to be used completely independently from the handset itself, and can also be used to browse the web. The tablet will also come with features, including a front facing video camera that will allow you to make video calls. The tablet feature Wi-Fi IEEE802.11b/g, with an exceptional touch screen that displays in 800x480 resolution and will feature a camera and a USB port.

The company will likely mostly target businesses with this device, since most individuals and homes are getting rid of their home phone and are not taking one on. It is an interesting device that could be the first in a line of many home phones that come complete with a tablet. The company has said that they hope to sell more than 30,000 devices within two years, but it is clear that this device, and similar devices, have the potential for much more.

  • Reports about unlocked cell phones with projectors have run rampant in recent years. The first reports were first seen in October 2008. These reports stated that developers were already working on a design that would bring a mobile device with a built in projector to Japan in the coming months. This project has taken a little bit longer than expected, but Japan’s biggest mobile carrier, NTT Docomo announced today that they would be offering the new handset with built in projection starting on Friday.

It will be the first phone that allows users to project images on to wall and screens, and could be the start of a revolution in the mobile industry. The device, which is called the Sharp SH-06 will feature a 3.7 inch touchscreen that features a 480x854 resolution. The device will also feature a prjector that has nine lumens of brightness and a 640x360 resolution, allowing you to quickly and easily share online videos with friends without having to pass the phone around.

As you might imagine, the phone will also come with a OneSeg digital TV tuner, which seems to make a lot of sense and will go along nicely with the projector. The device will also have Blu-Ray record connectivity, allowing users to project Blu-Ray images through the projector.

Along with the projector, the Sharp SH-06 will feature a 5.3 mega pixel CMOS camera, completely with auto-focus, that will allow you to take high quality photos. At just 137 grams, you would really expect the first handset with built in projection to weight substantially more in order to house the technology. If this turns out to be a hit in Japan, you can expect companies to quickly make plans to bring the technology to the US sometime thereafter. This is one feature that all mobile enthusiasts should keep their eye on.

  • The Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant is a device that has been highly successful for Samsung, so it would be a bit naive of them not to release an updated version of the smart phone. It, at this point, is a worldwide smart device that has been able to sell more than ten million units since it was released just over six months ago. Samsung also recently announced the Infuse 4G, which will be a US-only offering.

Now, the President of Samsung Mobile, JK Shin, has announced that the Galaxy S device will be receiving an updated release in February that will run on the new Gingerbread operating system and will also feature a dual-core operating system. This is great news for fans of the original Galaxy S, which ran very smoothly and was met with rave reviews from the mobile community. The dual-core addition to the device should make it extremely fast and will allow them to expand the number of apps and functionality available for the phone. So far they have not announced if the dual-core processor will be Tegra 2 or Orion.

The phone will also utilize the Super AMOLED Plus display technology that most fans got their first look at during the Consumer Electronics Show last week. Along with the announcement of the Galaxy S successor, Samsung announced they would be releasing plans for their Galaxy Tab tablet line for the upcoming year. You can bet that their new Super AMOLED Plus display technology will be included in the announcement, so you might want to hold off on that new tablet until you see what the Galaxy Tab unlocked is going to be able to offer. Samsung’s new display technology was met by amazing reviews at the Consumer Electronics Show, and it is nice to see that they are quickly adding it to some of their most popular devices in a re-release and update.

  • As per one of the leading unlocked cell phone blog site. This week, Cricket gave the world a sneak peak at their new Muve Music application on the new Samsung Suede device. Although the Suede was hardly the talk of the Consumer Electronics Show, it did look pretty smooth as it navigated from one menu to another throughout the hands on. It seemed to power the software quite easily and no lag time was noticeable at all during the hands on event.

The Muve service allows users to have unlimited everything, pretty much. These unlimited services include unlimited calling, unlimited nation wide text, picture and video messaging, and just about any other service that is standard in an unlimited data package.

Their new Muve Music service also boasts a huge catalogue of more than one and a half million songs. That number is expected to jump an additional million over the course of the next few months as the company gets more deals into place with publishers. The hands on demo looked very promising for both the Suede and the Muve app. It will certainly draw in some potential customers who would not mind having a cheaper, slick phone. It seemed to be able to handle all of the basic functions and looked very good moving from one menu to another. The Muve also looked good, and at $55 for the complete service, you really can not beat the deal. The Muve is obviously one of the very best apps in its space, but some have argued that the price tag for all of the features is a bit high.

It is good to see that with the success of their other devices that Unlocked Samsung phone has not taken their focus away from also delivering lower quality phones that are easy to use and provide a good set of features for users that do not want to spend the money on a top quality phone from the company.

  • The CEO of Hulu, Jason Kilar made an appearance at a recent Samsung event to announce a new deal that was on the horizon. The announcement came at a press event at the Consumer Electronic Show today. Hulu Plus will be available for Android 2.2 in the coming months and will be available for Android 2.2 devices only.

After the announcement he also gave a quick preview of the app, running on the Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant which runs on Android 2.2 So far there has been no mention of the price of the app, but you can bet that there will be some sort of subscription fee.

This means that you will be able to access all of the content that is currently available on Hulu straight from your Android device. It will be interesting to see what they say about a possible subscription fee for the service that has been highly popular since it first launched. Bringing Hulu Plus to Android devices means that you will be able to use it from many different devices that are currently running on Android 2.2 or above - one of the most popular mobile operating system currently being offered. This is something that did not leak out at all before the announcement, but will probably be to the enjoyment of most of their users.

Hulu constantly updates their offerings in their Hulu Plus service and often time’s television shows will allow their content to be available just days after it airs on TV. So if you have a hard time keeping up with your favorite shows, this service is undoubtedly for you. Hulu Plus has received a lot of praise from current users and hopefully the quality of the video will be great for Hulu Plus users.
