  • The unlocked Samsung Galaxy was a device that received a lot of attention when it was first released and has been critically acclaimed. The newest version of the device has also received a lot of attention as well. Samsung announced today that the global preorders for the phone have reached the three million level. This was the level that they were at near the end of April. It is clear that there is a huge demand for the device, and that Samsung has a real winner on their hands.

One week ago Samsung’s device was pre ordered in South Korea alone a total of 200,000 times. That is a huge number for that region and the 4.3 inch AMOLED device is one that will continue to gain in popularity. They are hugely popular in their home market and the Samsung Galaxy S II is a device that is also popular in other areas of the world.

The Galaxy S II will be offered throughout more than 120 different countries in total and will be on more than 140 carriers across the globe. The device will continue to grow in popularity as long as they continue to put out solid smart devices.

The device is really the only device that currently rivals the unlocked iPhone 4 in terms of smart phone popularity. The over sized screen is one thing that has drawn many users to the device and many users are looking forward to more specs to be released about the device moving forward. With over three million pre-orders, the Samsung Galaxy S II is easily the most popular phone that they have, and will continue to be one of the most popular devices in their line moving forward if the amount of pre-orders is any indication.

  • Have you ever wished that you could send an mp3 to someone that you were talking to without having to hook up your devices to one another? The AirPlay to AppleTV support was a similar feature that was recently added to the Android media player. Now, you will be able to send your mp3 from one phone to another without having to connect them, straight through NFC technology. The video that was released also offers a few details that will give you a better idea of how the technology will work. The update first went live in the Android Market throughout the night. You will be able to send the mp3 to someone that is on a unlocked Samsung Nexus S Google, Galaxy S II and hopefully soon other devices.

In order to use the software you will have to have two different Android phones that also have the NFC technology. The file sharing features work over the WiFi or Bluetooth connection strings, and will continually be updated by DoubleTwist.

This is exciting because it is the first of many ways that we will see this technology to be used in the future. The ability to wirelessly send files from one device to another will be hugely popular in the near future. As of right now, only a few devices actually have the NFC technology to make it possible, but you can bet that as more devices are added to lineups with this technology that there will be more and more uses for wirelessly sending files back and fourth.

Several companies have announced new phones that have NFC technology to be released in the near future, so it appears that the trend will continue to grow moving forward as well. Sharing music is just the very beginning, but you can bet that all sorts of files will be shared moving forward into the future.

  • Jaguar XJ and unlocked BlackBerry will be integrating, according to an announcement that was made at the BlackBerry World 2011. They will be showing off their brand new XJ line of sedans that have a prototype in them that allows for the car to connect with RIM technology and allows for their car to be integrated with their mobile devices. Communication throughout the device will be handed by a VNC, and users will be able to access their apps as well as make calls from inside their vehicle.

They will also be able to control certain aspects of the car from the touch screen, including the direction that the mirrors are facing as well as receive traffic information and GPS services that could help them to more quickly get from point A to point B. The phone will be able to be controlled from the center stack of the line of sedans, and the company has stated that they will be blocking apps that could potentially be distracting while someone is driving. This is good news, because we do not want to have to worry about people playing with mobile apps while they are driving and not paying attention to the road.

This is a move that was met with applause from the audience, and could shape the way that mobile technology and vehicles integrate in the future. This is an enticing offering, but only if you are looking for a Jaguar.

In the future, look for integration with other types of vehicles to become more standard. While there are not many options available at the moment, integration is something that has routinely been looked at throughout the mobile industry as a logical next step for smart device and car manufacturing companies. Look for more news on this subject to be made available in the near future.

  • Although the kind of technology that can be seen with their smart phones might suggest otherwise, a data analytics company has recently reported that for the first time in the history of the nation smart phones are outselling feature phones. This is a global trend, but Japan is the first country to officially have more  cell phones in circulation than feature phones. The numbers were collected between March 28th and April 3.

This is the first time that this has ever been recorded. The analytics company has said that Android such as unlocked Samsung Captivate i897, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, etc.. was the main reasoning behind the recent shift, because the operating system has become insanely popular in recent months in Japan and continues to grow quickly in popularity.

The report wasn’t really a surprise to most. Japan is known for their smart phone crazes, and has been at the forefront of developing and creating mobile technology for quite some time. It will certainly be interesting to see if the numbers continue to surpass one another. They typically shift from one week to the next, but this is the first time that there has ever been a lead on the side of smart devices. Both types of phones share about 50% of the total phone market at this moment.

Watch as smart phones continually become much more common in the coming months in Japan and in other countries. Although Japan may be at the forefront - other countries are not  that far behind themselves. Look for perhaps the United States or other countries to see similar numbers at some point in the future. In many American homes, cell phones have virtually replaced the use of landline phones, although this is not as common in Canada and other surrounding countries.  Japan might be the first, but rest assured they will not be the last.

  • Sony Ericcson is pushing very hard to get their new Android devices that will be coming out this year in front of the eyes of the public. A number of other devices have already been announced, including the Arc, U5a Vivaz pro, unlocked Xperia X10 and the Neo looks like another solid addition to that line. The device will be powered by the already highly popular Android 3.3 Gingerbread operating system.

This is the first time that the device has been shown to the public. There was not word on when customers could expect the device to be released, and the advertisement was only seen along side a “coming soon” warning. So far there isn’t even any information about which carrier the device will be available on. Alongside the device in the advertisement, a few specs and facts about the device were made available. First of all, it will utilize their new CMOS sensor, which allows for users to take great video and pictures, even when they are in very low lighting. It will also feature their Reality display on the BRAVIA Engline,a nd will have a built in HDMI port, which has been a hot commodity for smart devices in recent weeks and months.

The Neo will have a 3.7 inch display, along with a hearty eight megapixel camera that will be able to capture up to 720p video in HD. The standard 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor was used in the device. Although not all of the information about the device is available at this current juncture, the site did make it clear that it will be available in three colors; white, blue, and red. It will be interesting to see how well received the device is moving forward and also what carrier it will be available on straight out of the gate. IT is possible that it could be rebranded and be available on a number of different carriers, but there is no information to support that at this time.

  • It looks like Samsung is not completely done with their Galaxy S line of phones. The company recently had a table leaked that shows that they are planning on releasing a phone with a 1.4 GHz processor in European markets. The phone has been one of the few that is considered to be a direct competitor for the unlocked iPhone 4.

The information came from a comparison sheet that showed off the new version of the device. The new device looks just like last years original, and is going to be sold for somewhere around $846 around Russia.

Shortly after the information was leaked Samsung came forward to confirm the news about the new phone. It appears as if they decided that instead of having rumors and untrue information floating around the net like wildfire, that they would confirm the phone themselves and start promoting it.

This is very exciting news for users of the Galaxy S line. It is easily their most popular line of smart phones and they have been continually able to find ways to update old devices with new features that keep the users coming - especially when they already have a hit on their hands with the device.

Although the price is quite steep, the additions to the phone show that the company has put some real thought into improving the speed of the device. The Samsung Galaxy S unlocked will be branded as the “2011 Edition” of the device. So far the company has not released any commercial branding for the device. They have yet to announce when they will be releasing the phone in other markets outside of Russia, but with the popularity the phone has already garnered, you have to believe that they are going to look at releasing it elsewhere as well. Russia rarely receives devices first, but this current release of information shows that this case may be an exception to the rule.

  • New MTS 4G Network
Posted on April 1, 2011 by Pure Mobile

MTS has finally launched their 4G network for unlocked cell phone such as BlackBerry Bold 9780, Unlocked Nokia N8, Samsung captivate, etc.. that the company has been talking about for quite some time. The network has been in the works for a number of months and was finally activated for users after months of planning. This is huge news for customers that have been with MTS for quite some time. This will speed up their coverage and will also allow for more advanced plans for the company moving forward.

This should provide download speeds that can reach up to 21 mega bytes per second, which will be nearly twice as fast as their previous speeds. The announcement came from the president of the company, Kevlin Shepherd, who is the usual face seen when the company makes large announcements such as this one.

In his statement, he said that they were able to upgrade their entire coverage area and will give more device options to their customers. It was a huge investment for the company but is certainly one that they are looking to pay off in the long run. It is good to see that they are dedicated to upgrading the coverage offered, and provide higher speeds.

MTS has continually upgraded their network, which directly benefits the end user.  With this most recent upgrade to 4G, they are officially up to speed with the current demands of a quickly changing industry. The press release from MTS was very detailed, and gave some insight into their future plans. The upgrade of their network will open up a number of new devices that were not previously available with MTS previously. Moving forward, look for their new phones to be announced, as well as a number of phones that will be able to run on the 4G network that was recently launched. There are many different phones that will open up to the company now that they have a 4G network.

  • Samsung’s app store has been steadily growing since it was first launched, and the company announced that they have officially passed the one hundred million app download mark. This is a huge number, and shows that third party app markets might be the wave of the future. Samsung has output a number of highly touted smart phones devices such as unlocked Samsung captivate i897, Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, etc and their app market has grown as a result.

There are currently more than 13,000 apps currently available throughout the market. That is more than six times as much as was there when the store was first launched. Some of hte most popular apps that are available through the Samsung app store include Speed Shift and Magic Torch, two very popular games.

It looks as though most of the downloads have come from Europe, most of which come from France. Between France, Germany and Spain, the three companies have accounted for more than forty percent of the total number of downloads.

Apps for unlocked Samsung phone have continued to grow in popularity and in the size of the pool of apps that are currently available. The overall quality of the Samsung applications has also consistently increased since the service was first launched. Consistently improving their service is something that the company has obviously taken seriously, and their 100 million downloads mark further proves that their efforts have paid off. Samsung appears to be leading the way in the third party app market industry.

In the press release that was put out today also stated that the company is expecting to quickly grow throughout the course of 2011. With their upcoming new line of high powered smart devices, Bada, you can expect many new users to become interested in their app marketplace moving forward. Now the company will have to focus on attracting some of the larger app development companies in the space, in order to make more apps available moving forward.

  • Sprint Gets Rid of Mail In Rebates
Posted on March 30, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Sprint has officially ditched their mail-in rebates model, and is now going to be going with an instant rebate model that provides instant savings to their users. Verizon also made a similar move at the beginning of the year. The move will mostly effect their most expensive cell phone. The idea behind the mail in rebates is that a certain percent of the customers will never take advantage of it and will just choose to pay the extra costs rather than spend the time mailing the rebate in. Also, there were issues with the mail in rebate never arriving, which was a complaint of many who took the time to pursue the rebate.

The information was confirmed by Sprint. The official switch came on March 27th, and will continue well into the foreseeable future. The company has not stated whether or not this switch will be completely permanent, but did make it clear that they were willing to give it a shot for quite some time moving forward.

If the switch is is only a temporary one, the company has not released any information regarding when users can expect it to disappear, so you might want to take advantage of the offer while it was there. The company made the move shortly after the same move was made by Verizon.

It will be interesting to see if other carriers follow in the footsteps of both Verizon and Sprint. Getting rid of the mail in rebate is certainly something that would be in the best interest of their customers, but may not be in the best interests of the company. Look for more companies to make similar changes in the future if it leads to more sales of smart devices. That is the end goal but could result in reduced revenue for the company, which could mean that the offer doesn’t stick around quite as long as many are hoping that it will.

  • AT&T Connects To Amazon App Store
Posted on March 27, 2011 by Pure Mobile

With the company behind the ultra popular Angry Birds releasing an Amazon App Store for unlocked cell phone exclusive new update for the game, AT&T is looking to enable purchases through the app store as well. This would be the first time that they have budged from only allowing users to download things from their own app store. AT&T has never previously allowed anything like this, and this should serve as a small shift in strategy for the company. They will be allowing their branded Android devices to have access to the Amazon App Store for the first time in the history of the company.

AT&T released a statement saying that they were looking to allow users to access third party app stores, but also said that they were going to have to finish the agreements with Amazon first, and promised to share more information with their users at some point in the near future.

Hopefully Angry Birds Rio, and other apps that are exclusively offered through the Amazon App Store will make their way to AT&T branded Android devices here soon. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise because AT&T has been mostly steadfast in their strategies prior to this, and this serves as a big change in the way that they do business.

In order for this to happen there will likely have to be some sort of widespread update to the firmware, but the company has not confirmed this at this time. Could this be the first step in opening up the door for third party app stores in the future. They do already exist but have not been able to maintain much leverage with most carriers not allowing direct access to them. Hopefully this is the start of a change in the way that business is done within AT&T moving forward.
