    Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 Review

Samsung has led the charge in Google Android’s mission to win the hearts and minds of smartphone users and potential customers.  The South Korean company’s Samsung Galaxy II and highly anticipated tablet have launched it to top smartphone billing in the world this year and have it poised to give the upcoming Apple iPad 3 some true competition. So when looking at its Galaxy Player 5.0 media player Samsung’s answer to the iPod touch, there were high expectations.

Compared to its playmates in the app-running, connected media player arena, we are sorry to report that this member of the Galaxy family line-up doesn’t live up to expectations. When considering that the astronomical advances made in smartphones, apps, and all of the associated technology and consumer inspired accessories, one has to ask: “what is the point of paying for a smartphone that doesn’t have calling ability?” Well, it’s for the storage that makes it a media-centric and media-dedicated device for consumers’ music, video, movies, etc.   Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  Discover the latest innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading brands

How did this particular media player measure up? 40 GB if a microSD memory  card is used as well. That is a full 24 GB less than a high-end iPod Touch. Die hard Samsung fans can always supplement this storage limitation with memory card, USBs and the like, but is something consumers need to beware.

As for aesthetics… this media player lacks the satisfying gleam and sophistication of its counterparts and also its Galaxy family members. Cheap and plastic-like with a somewhat bulky frame, Samsung missed the mark. Its physicality could be overlooked if the sound on this device was even decent. Without headphones the sound is tinny. They try to cover up the bass deficits with the headphones they include (which are decent), but use another headphone set of your choice and your eardrums and feet will be sorely let down.   Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  Protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with our stylish top brand accessories.

The plus side is that Samsung was true to its word in regards to battery life and the hours of media play an end-user will experience. But at the end of the day, that is cold comfort for the price. Coming in at approximately $30 more than the iPod touch, Samsung will likely find few takers and a slew of excess inventory on its hands. This writer’s advice? Factor in all the costs in memory cards, USB sticks and headphones on top of below par camera, video, and sound quality. More likely than not, you are better off investing the cash in a high end, unlocked Samsung smartphone that will outperform and neatly keep all the same functionality in one pocket.

    Apple iPad 3 Rumors Abound

Even with Steve Jobs gone from the Apple helm, his revolutionary, consumer-inspired products continue to be hot on the market. Upcoming releases start the buzz early on and steadily grow in intensity... resulting in a resounding drone by the time the product actually arrives in Apple stores and the Occupy Apple Store participants can open their deceivingly simple boxes and lovingly put their new toys in their designer cases.   Discover the latest Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod and MackBook accessories

With the iCult in full force, be prepared to be inundated with news of the next generation iPad tablet that is rumored to be released between mid-March and mid-April of next year. A skeptic may ask “How do they know this?” Well. As of now this news is being cited as an anonymous source in Apple’s component supply chain by DigiTimes. The second generation iPad still has high production (in the 14 – 15 million unit range for 2011’s fourth quarter).  But come January, Apple will significantly drop its orders to suppliers to somewhere in the 4 to 5 million range. The supplier that gives its name and solid credence to these reports is Foxconn who has indicated that in the first quarter of 2012 they will build 9.5 – 9. 7 million iPad 3 units.  Protect your Apple devices with innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading bra

So with all this talk of production, what will be new with the next iPad? Well, as of now, this next Apple tablet is said to be a bit thicker than the iPad 2 which would leave room to include a high resolution Retina Display. Earlier speculation thought the next generation iPad would launch in February, but this latest news from suppliers clarifies matters. It remains to be seen if this difference in size will affect the versatility of accessories.  Enhance your mobility... turn your device into a power tool.  Discover select accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.

    Apple iPad 3 Rumors Abound

Because of the exclusive BGR report last week which stated Samsung’s timeline in revealing its new tablet at the Mobile World Congress in February. This new Samsung tablet may give the newest addition to the Apple family some genuine competition as it will be featuring a Retina-topping display resolution as well.

Translation? Samsung will have a first to market tablet with the Retina-topping screen. Likely to capture some market share and give Apple its first “run for its money” in the tablet sector.

Samsung ’Breaks out the Bubbly for a Record 2011'!

We applaud Samsung for surpassing the 300 million unit mark this year.  This is considerable growth over the previous 2010 when their sales totaled around the 280 million unit mark. This is a first in the company’s history and Samsung confirmed the sales reporting to Reuters. One can only assume that this success will translate into cornering more of the tablet market with  their family of Samsung Galaxy Tablets as well in the coming year.

When reviewing the most recent report from the market research and analysis firm, Strategy Analytics, Samsung’s mobile phone sales to distribution channels in the third quarter alone this year was 88 million. Clearly mobile device and unlocked cell phones are playing a major role in this South Korean company’s success. Another consideration should be the Android platform as well. It allows for a more open, global reach, that can only increase mobile device and protective accessories sales worldwide.

Samsung ’Breaks out the Bubbly for a Record 2011'!Android fans and tech savvy consumers continue to rave about the Samsung Galaxy S II cell phone which contributes to the stellar success of these smartphones for the company.  In fact, Samsung confirmed that its smartphone shipments last quarter totaled up to 27.9 million units. This number equates to another gold star for the company – it is now the number one smartphone vendor in the world by shipment volume. This success could in part be attributed to the availability of unlocked Samsung devices that create sales opportunities for those same savvy consumers in search of the most cost effective smartphone plan.  .   Accessories are designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.  Discover the latest innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading brands

While their market leadership and achievements allows Samsung to  bask in the spotlight...  they don’t intend to rest on their laurels. For as the company’s president and head of mobile business, JK Shin, stated Sunday, ”We look forward to extending this success going into 2012.”

While the mobile carrier options are different, the mobile device brands, their popularity, and availability are very comparable between the US and Canada. In particular the convenience of unlocked cell phones which better serves mobile consumer in North America with the freedom to choose their service provider  and subscription plan that best meets their lifestyle needs.

So what are the trends and popularity for this year? Two words: Samsung cell phones and Android. According to research giant ComScore, Android is chipping away at the market share previously held by the beleaguered RIM’s BlackBerry OS… In a short three month period Android captured an additional 4.4% of the market as RIM dropped 4.5%.

ComScore Report Reinforces Spiraling Smartphone Consumer Base

Samsung's recent successes have allowed them to gain market momentum thanks to the growing of their  Samsung Galaxy SII cell phone and Galaxy Tablet.   In fact, Samsung’s smart phones account for over a quarter of the mobile devices in the US market today.  This is no paltry amount of handsets based on the newest census of users indicating a whopping 234 million Americans use cell phones. That number is only going up as premium electronic  accessories specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich... turn your device into a power tool.  This whole gambit of new  functionality further help make us multi-tasking masters.

But what are they really being used for these days? This writer hazards a guess based on personal usage: most everything but talking.  And the increase in mobile device accessories, such as stylus & pens, speakers, headphones & earpieces and special glider gloves continue to highlight shifts in user behaviors.  We use them as the pocket PCs to browse Facebook (and update statuses), indulge in online shopping (after using the bank app to check account balances), fill the social calendar via texting, stream music from Pandora while running, or keeping fidgety fingers occupied while waiting in line with a quick game of Solitaire. Discover the hottest unlocked cell phones.

As the ComScore report indicates time and again, the collective consumers are driving trends and commerce that the carriers and handset manufacturers cannot ignore.

School districts received a number of grants to purchase tablets to increase interactive learning and pique student interest and raise productivity.  Faced with the decision of choosing a tablet, educational institutions are investigating and evaluating the benefits and shortcomings of various mobile tablets and tablet accessories available on the market.

Some of the many benefits are: physical size, applications, streamlined user-friendly features. However, the vast majority of these tablets don't come equipped with CD/ DVD ROMs or USB ports that are traditional means of backup for the typical user.  It appears that Acer had these limitations in mind when it quietly developed and introduced the Acer A500. This is a consumer centric honeycomb product that is not only affordable but also includes full-size USB ports and is cost effective.  Discover the latest innovative protective tablet solutions and premium electronic tablet accessories.

Acer Launches Affordable USB Equiped Tablet

The new Acer A500 model boasts a 10.1 inch screen with a full gigabyte of RAM and an option of 16 or 32 gigabyte internal storage. The 2 megapixel front facing camera and an 3260mAh battery  holding an 8 hour charge; coupled with a USB port and microSD card option for 32GB external storage for the pragmatic user. Other tablet showcases more impressive technical specs, but it all comes down to the customer needs.

This is indeed a pragmatic option (not necessarily aesthetically appealing one at 12mm thick), the specs of this Acer tablet make it a contender as an entry-level purchase. For those customers drawn to a tablet’s « look » and flashier features, they may want to consider the Blackberry PlayBook or Apple iPad or the Samsung Galaxy offerings.

Acer Launches Affordable USB Equiped Tablet

For the Android fans out there, this tablet is slated to launch with Honeycomb but will be upgraded to Android 4.0 soon after its release. The roadmap as of now is unclear, but would make a lovely and practical addition to any consumer’s Android family of products.

As mobile devices become increasingly integrated into our lives as an extension of the personal computer; the same threats posed to our PCs creep into our day to day mobile phone and tablet usage.

Android OS – Application soft spots lead to potential privacy breaches

According to a research paper released by the North Carolina State University, certain Android vendors including Motorola, Samsung, and HTC) are not following Android’s best practices for pre-installed apps.  An undesired side effect of this negligence is that those applications access to send SMS messages, wipe a phone’s data, or even read your address books. In effect, they are able to do all of the aforementioned tasks without your knowing. This is stark contrast to Apple iPhone and iPad tablet propietary applications / OS practices which may be on your list of considerations.

As a Google prodigy, these Android vulnerabilities are not quite so present on Google phones such as the Nexus One and Nexus S. There are unfortunately some symptoms of an underlying weakness in the Android platform. This shortcoming points to an inherent flaw in the OS for its permissions-based exploits. Luckily today’s marketplace offers a variety of smart phone OS and device options.  Discover the innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading brands.

Android OS – Application soft spots lead to potential privacy breaches

Google and Motorola (now a subsidiary of the internet giant) have both acknowledged these issues. Interesting enough, HTC and Samsung have presented considerate difficulties for researchers in terms of reporting these issues. An interesting delineation between manufacturers, it may be in a consumer’s best interest to review unlocked phones for security purposes before locking into a contract with an unsecure smart phone.

The silver lining is that it is the likelihood of these soft spots being exploited is low. This is due to the necessity of side-loading an app on the device to interface with the permissions of the pre-installed applications’ weaknesses. But buyer bewares – the potential for serious privacy infringement is there. Be an informed and engaged consumer and take precautions when downloading applications from the Android Marketplace.  Ensure that you are downloading apps from trustworthy sellers and take a few moments to read over reviews, protection, smart phone and tablet accessories and additional smart phone options at online retailers such as puremobile.com.

With 2011 coming to a close, speculation on the upcoming technology of 2012 is beginning to run rampant.  So, to help keep you in “the know,” here are a few smartphones, technology upgrades, and the like.  Manufacturers will be releasing a plethora of new innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices

    Samsung

    Samsung and Blackberry Overview

Samsung has had a great year with consistent performance with strong sales from its Galaxy cell phones coupled with its Galaxy Tablet and related mobile device accessories.  To continue the momentum of 2011, Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Note - touted to be a “new category of product” in early 2012.

At the moment no specific carrier has been chosen to feature this smartphone, but with the revolutionary “buzz” around the release, it will likely be a time limited exclusive agreement with one of the larger service providers.  Unlocked cell phone relieve dependency on service provider long term contracts... choose the service provider you want and negotiate a low cost service package that meets your lifestyle and needs.

How Global are smartphone consumers REALLY?

According to the mobile strategy firm, VisionMobile, there has been a marked increase in smartphone shipments in 2010-2011. In the same report, they also indicated that the use of global smartphones in comparison is rather lukewarm and tepid: 27%.  One reason for this may be the limited global smart phones offered by carriers, especially in corporate purchasing plans and contacts.  More and more consumers are personalizing their mobile devices with accessories that offer both superior protection and trend-setting fashion.

No doubt global smartphone shipments would jump to a more comparable rate if the major carriers offered greater choices, but the exclusivity of their phone offerings precludes the same array of choices available to consumers considering unlocked smartphones.

    Samsung and Blackberry Overview

    RIM – strategic play

Whether RIM has a fortune teller on staff or they were remarkably prepared to lose their greatest market differentiator (their secure OS).  In light of this fiasco, they may retain their cherished government and enterprise customers with a new platform.  It allows IT administrators to better manage the newest endpoints to the network: smartphones and tablets.  In this rapidly consumer need driven mobility industry the beauty of this platform is that non-RIM OS platforms such as Apple and Android will be better centrally managed.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a pure Android cell phone which comes packed with a 4.0 OS based features and applications coupled with a grand view 4.5 inch display.   who among us doesn't like to see smartphones put through the ringer... from the drop test to the puree speed blender test.

The people of iFixit (http://www.ifixit.com) live for these type of testing.  recently they tore down, ripped apart and did other nasty things to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.   After the dust settled the Galaxy Nexus was awarded with 'Repairability Score' of 6 out of 10 (with 10 being the easiest to repair).  At times like this we are grateful for cell phone accessories that designed to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4.5-inch 1280x720 pixel Super AMOLED high-definition display use fortified glass which can handle drops and repel scratched - as can be seen in the following video

Despite having passed this intensive key scratch test we still recommend you protect your cell phones with the latest fashion setting cases and skins, screen protectors and other fun accessories that enhance your mobile device's functionality.
