  • T-Mobile is still a company that is expanding despite the fact that they were recently acquired. They will be expanding their new 21 mbps HSPA+ network to two new cities for unlocked cell phone users, including Scranton, PA, famous for being the main city in the TV show “The Office.” This shows that there are still some very interesting plans in the works for a company that was recently acquired. It will be interesting to see if there are plans in the future to continue to expand their network to new locations.

The 21 megabit per second wireless data is some of the fastest being offered in the United States at this time, which has made it an attractive offer for many of their users. Also receiving some help from the network will be Wilkes Barr, PA, Ft. Meyers, FL and also Pueblo, CO. Their roll otu of this network is slow and targeted to cities that use a lot of data, but you can bet that the ultimate plan is to bring it to the whole of the United States sooner rather than later. It will be interesting to see if this helps the company to garner new users before they are inevitably swallowed into AT&T.

T-Mobile has continued to aggressively expand and alter their services to get the best possible outcome in the long run. A lot of time and effort has gone into seeing their network expand, and it is likely a technology that AT&T themselves would love to utilize moving forward. Look for the company to continue to expand this network to new cities in the future.

High speed is a standard nowadays, with the demand going up it is important for the supply to be there too. There is talk of capping data plans or go on a cost per usage basis. These types of launches help users efforts to keep costs down and have a solid data plan.

  • Jaguar XJ and unlocked BlackBerry will be integrating, according to an announcement that was made at the BlackBerry World 2011. They will be showing off their brand new XJ line of sedans that have a prototype in them that allows for the car to connect with RIM technology and allows for their car to be integrated with their mobile devices. Communication throughout the device will be handed by a VNC, and users will be able to access their apps as well as make calls from inside their vehicle.

They will also be able to control certain aspects of the car from the touch screen, including the direction that the mirrors are facing as well as receive traffic information and GPS services that could help them to more quickly get from point A to point B. The phone will be able to be controlled from the center stack of the line of sedans, and the company has stated that they will be blocking apps that could potentially be distracting while someone is driving. This is good news, because we do not want to have to worry about people playing with mobile apps while they are driving and not paying attention to the road.

This is a move that was met with applause from the audience, and could shape the way that mobile technology and vehicles integrate in the future. This is an enticing offering, but only if you are looking for a Jaguar.

In the future, look for integration with other types of vehicles to become more standard. While there are not many options available at the moment, integration is something that has routinely been looked at throughout the mobile industry as a logical next step for smart device and car manufacturing companies. Look for more news on this subject to be made available in the near future.

  • The BlackBerry  PlayBook is a device that has received a lot of attention in recent months, but is not expected to sell as well as some of the other tablet device that have been available for quite some time. Research In Motion has announced that the new Facebook application for their seven inch tablet that will be available sometime in May. The device will be a business based tablet that should function similarly to most unlocked BlackBerry cell phones.

This will allow for their thirty million users to finally receive the Facebook application that they have been hoping for, and will open up the ability for them to stay in touch with friends while they are on the move. This is something that many users have been waiting to hear, and will probably help them to sell their new tablet device.

Although BlackBerry started out targeting corporations and corporate applications of their devices, they have been moving closer toward personal uses in recent years, and the PlayBook might be their farthest jump in the opposite direction.

The BlackBerry Playbook is a device that has received a lot of attention in recent months, as it is the first jump into the tablet arena by Research In Motion, and the device has mostly impressed thus far. There is no reason to think that the device would not continue to impress moving forward, especially with all of the attention that has been placed on it.

The announcement came via a press release that quickly made rounds throughout the various mobile blogs and websites. The application will allow users to view and add friends as well as new video and photo viewing, and the ability to use the Facebook chat application that comes standard with every Facebook account.  This is an update that many have been waiting for for quite some time.

  • Experian Hitwise, a web analytics company has stated that Bing looks as though it has been able to garner 30% of the US search market from Google. This is a bit of a surprising figure for a search engine that is less than two years old in total. This means that Bing has moved up more than 6% between the months of February and March. Google saw their share of the US search market fall about 3%, leaving them with just over 64% of the search market.

Of course, Google is still the undisputed leader in the US and world search markets. However, some have suggested that perhaps the Bing and Yahoo agreement have made both companies much more effective than Google has been in recent years. The firm states that over 80% of searches that come from Bing and Yahoo will result in finding a website you are looking for, while only about 65% of Google searches will get you to where you would like to be.

Google is certainly falling in the US, but maintains a stranglehold on the world market as a whole. With Bing and Yahoo gaining ground through their agreement, Google will have to figure out how they can maintain their current hold on the US market.

Bing has aggressively pursued unlocked cell phone users since the incident took place, and has managed to carve out a number of deals that will allow them to take hold of some of the market. Bing and Yahoo reached an agreement to run through the same platform over a year ago, and it has been undeniably good to them, as they have seen their overall market share rise quite a bit since the deal was first enacted. Google has yet to comment on the story after it broke.

  • AT&T New Protection Plans
Posted on April 1, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Unfortunately for the iPad and unlocked iPhone 4 users, they will not be a part of the new protection plan that AT&T will be offering. The new insurance plan will allow users to protect their mobile device for a total of $9.99 per month. This will cover them against the loss, theft, damage or malfunction of devices that are currently not under warranty. While it might seem to be a little bit steep, these plans will protect a lot of customers who otherwise would have to pay to replace their completely new phone.

This is the first time that AT&T will release a service like this, and it will cover any wireless customer that does not have an Apple branded product, because they come with their own insurance policies from the company that allow them to receive work only from Apple employees.

The insurance will allow users to quickly replace their device if it is damaged for any reason, and will also allow them to account for electrical failure after the warranty expires on the phone. The deal will probably have a lot of subscribers. In a day and age where your phone is going to be on you all day every day, you really can not skimp on making sure that you have all of the protections in place to ensure that you do not end up without your phone.

The devices that will be included in the deal include the Samsung Galaxy Tab and new high powered Motorola Atrix 4G unlocked. Users are going to be able to get the new phone for only $50 to $125 -  basically less than the amount that they would pay for the phones if they were to get them with a contract, so this deal could be really beneficial - especially for those of us that lose their phones very easily on a regular basis.

  • NFC payments are undoubtedly the next big thing. Imagine being able to pay for things at your local grocery store right from your cell phone. There are a number of services that have already inhabited the space, but the deal between Google and Mastercard should be one of the largest and should connect the Google Checkout program with the capabilities of Mastercard as a company.

The deal should allow for NFC access to come to a number of future Android releases. Access could even be granted to current models of phones that have the features required to run the NFC technology.

It looks as though the service will work by receiving the shopping cart info from the customers who are making the purchase from a smart device, and also allows them to set up their shipping options. Google will also be behind naming the total cost of the order. Then, Google will be responsible for collecting the payment. This will allow for google to get a look at exactly what the customers are buying, which might be a bit of a scary thing for some. The amount of data that Google has access to is already huge, but having direct information about purchases that users make through their NFC technology would provide them with another huge helping of valuable information.

Their service would differ from PayPal and other similar services because they typically will just exchange information with other merchants. In a day and age where everyone is worried about privacy, a deal as large as this may need some approval from government agencies before being allowed. Look for more information to be passed along regarding this issue in the near future. The trend is one that is steadily growing, and you can expect other companies to take a look at NFC technology moving forward as well.

  • Motorola cell phone maker has announced that they have acquired the Swedish TV software company Dreampark. This could meant hat the company is looking to add to their TV technology with the acquisition and get deeper in that market. That acquisition is not expected to come to a final close until the second quarter of 2011, and so far details of the acquisition have not been made public yet. Motorola will look to use their Dreamgallery and other technology from the company and place them in the software suite offered by the company, Motorola Medios.

The press release suggested that the acquisition was completely for their Motorola Medios software suite, but the company has developed a number of other technologies that certainly could find some sort of use in other arenas of Motorola as well.

Once the transaction is completely closed, Dreampark will be integrated into their business and will cease to exist as its own entity. The purchase will allow the company to have a broader portfolio and will also allow them to increase their customer base moving forward.

It will contesting to see what kind of technologies come about as a result of the acquisition. There were no rumors about Motorola looking at DreamPark previous to this and it seemed to come out of nowhere from an industry standpoint. Could this be a start of flurry of acquisitions for their software suite, or will this single acquisition be enough for the company moving forward.

“This transaction enables us to continue to enhance our Medios software portfolio and capitalize upon the convergence of wireless technology,” said the Motorola VP John Burke, who addressed the media following the announcement of the acquisition. This seems to be in the best interest of both companies and shows that Motorola is dedicated to making sure that their software suite is packed chalk-full of useful software.

  • Unlocked Motorola Atrix 4G Review
Posted on March 23, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Unlocked Motorola Atrix 4G is a device that has received a lot of attention in recent months. The smart device will have a number of high profile accessories that will allow the device to dock to both laptops and phones. It is easily the most versatile device on the market today. It will double as a laptop, desktop computer, set top box and smart phone, all in one device. It features a 4 inch,  960 x 540 display that will make it unlike any other device out there on the market.

It has certainly surpassed the expectations of many. The design of hte phone is one of its weakest points, with most of hte case being made out of plastic. However, that does not mean that it is not put together quite solidly, and it is quite hard to break. It also features both USB and HDMI ports on the left side of the phone. The back of the phone features a rear facing five megapixel camera that comes complete with LED flash. The speakers are lcoated on the bottom side of the phone.

The battery life of th ephone is one of its strongest selling points. Although it will not last as long as other smart devices, the large number of features in conjunction with its ability to last more than 24 hours on a single charge with moderate use. The Motorola Atrix 4G unlocked has been a highly anticipated phone since some of the original features were announced, and it seems to have delivered on nearly everything that was promised. We were pleasantly surprised with the speed of the device, and the fact that it has so many accessories which extend the use of the device make it truly one of a kind, and should help it to become one of the most sought after devices in 2011 with ease.

  • Motorola Droid 3 Pictures Released
Posted on March 21, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Motorola typically tries to keep their phones such as Unlocked Motorola XT720 under wraps for as long as they can, but recently pictures of the Motorola DROID 3 made their way on line. The company has released one of their Droid devices each year, and the shots that made their way online look very promising. The phone will, of course, feature a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from under the display. The pictures do not tell that much about what users can expect of the phone, but things are looking up for the Droid 3 from what we can tell so far.

One of the bigger things that can be deciphered from the pictures that made their way online was the inclusion of a dedicated number row. This means that you will no longer have to hit the alt key when you want to hit numbers on your QWERTY keyboard. Although it is not completely clear from the photos, it also looks as if the phone will feature both a microUSB and an HDMI output port. You can see the ports on the bottom of the phone in some of the pictures but there is no direct shot of either of the ports.

In line with the direc tion that the company went with the Droid 2, it looks as though they have abandoned the idea of having a D pad on the phone, and instead have gone with the same similar arrow keys that were seen in the previous version of the device.

Not a lot can be deciphered from the pictures. They mostly show the display of the phone, such as Unlocked Motorola Milestone XT720 but do give us a good idea of how big, and what the keyboard will look like. It will be interesting to see what kind of reception the device gets when it is finally released. Motorola typically releases one new Droid for users every year, and this one seems to be along the same lines as the Droid 2.

  • HTC Shooter Sighting
Posted on March 18, 2011 by Pure Mobile

HTC has kept their rumored HTC Shooter smart phone under wraps quite well since the rumors first started. Now, it looks as though some testing has been taking place with Sprint and the company incidently uploaded the results of their test online.

Hardware engineers have to know how well their upcoming super phones can turn out 3D images when compared to competing phones. The phone will reportedly run on Android like unlocked HTC Vision G2 Desire Z, and was testing using a tool that is named GLBenchmark. Basically, this tool looks at how well your phone performs when compared to a similar phone, and then will upload the results of the test in your online account, which others can publicly view.

The results that were uploaded online fall just short of the numbers that were set by the HD Mini, but well ahead of the numbers set by the HTC Aria. The benchmarking software is not able to look at every aspect of the device when it is turning out these numbers, but it did provide some very interesting hardware specs that many have been waiting for.

The benchmark tests revealed that the phone will be running on Sprint, and will be running on the Gingerbread version of Android, which is version 2.3.2. the 960x540 resolution display is quite large overall. It will be based on, what appears to be anyway, the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU (based on the numbers that were released by the benchmark) and will also most likely be a dual-core CPU. Some have suggested that this will not be a new smart super phone after all, and instead will be a successor to the EVO. Look for the company to release more information about the device in the coming weeks to clear up some of the confusion that the benchmark results may have created.
