  • Spotify Launches in US Next Week
Posted on July 12, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Spotify is a popular streaming music service that has continued to grow in popularity throughout Europe over the course of the last few months. Now, the company is planning to launch their service in the United States as early as next week. The company announced at an earlier time that they were looking to expand their service to the United States, but gave no indication of when this change might occur. The company has been gaining popularity in Europe, throughout several different countries over the course of the last few years and has grown into the largest streaming music service abroad. Now, with other large companies including Apple’s unlocked iphone 4, Google, and Amazon launching cloud-based music services, it looks to be the perfect time for Spotify expand to the United States.

Spotify Launches in US Next Week

As a start up in Stockholm, Spotify was able to quickly grow their user base by promoting the streaming service to young kids in high schools and kids in college. As of right now, Spotify already has deals linked with three of the four major US record labels, which means that they should be able to release with a solid catalog of music that will keep new user streaming in. This will allow for users to create playlists from their favorite artists, without charge, using a free model that utilizes ad supported content.

Spotify Launches in US Next WeekIt is assumed that Spotify will also offer an option that will allow users to pay a small monthly in order to be able to stream their music catalog without the use of apps. It will be interesting to see if Spotify finds the same success in America that they have found overseas countries. The company has not yet revealed their pricing structure for users in the US market, a expected to be comparable to other companies that have released the pricing structure or their streaming cloud-based music services.

  • LightSquared, a company that has had problem with GPS interference for their GPS devices such unlocked Motorola Atrix, Samsung Infuse, etc.. is now creating the rural America initiative. The company promises that their new initiative will be more of a help and it will be a hindrance. You’re going back to take another look at their 4G LTE service, that is already signed up alongside a number of partners. The company is looking to increase the coverage of rural American areas with their GPS devices. The company is known for creating GPS devices that look to limit the amount of pesticides that are accidentally sprayed in crops throughout rural America. Because of recent GPS interference glitches, the company has had a very hard time controlling the spread of pesticides, a promise that the company made many small farm owners.

LightSquared Launches New Rural America Initiative

Along with the guidelines that the company has proposed, they are looking to assist emergency first responders if the existing communication lines for some reason are not working. LightSquared is not the first company to have to deal with the flaws of moving to a broadband adoption, issues are known to constantly arise in areas that are underserved in terms of coverage. This can be very difficult, especially when these areas are relying on a broadband connection for vital emergency services.

LightSquared Launches New Rural America Initiative

It is good to see that the company is looking for ways to fix the problems that they have run into over the course of the last few weeks. The GPS interference problems seem to be fixed, and unlocked cell phone users Such as unlocked iphone, HTC Evo, etc.. have not reported in recent issues with their coverage. It is also good to see that the company is taking initiative, and looking for ways that they can have backup plans in place in case further outages arise. This information was released in an official press statement from where.

  • According to a number of recent reports, Microsoft is now asking that Samsung pay $15 licensing fee for every Android smart phone that it makes. Yes, you heard that right. They are asking for a $15 licensing fee for every Android phone that Samsung makes. The Redmond based company said that it believed that the software patents that they currently home will cover the technology that is used in Samsung’s Android devices such as unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II. According to the history on the present subject, it looks as though Microsoft will be getting its way.

It was just last year that HTC was forced to sign an agreement that would allow for them to pay a total of $15 per device based on the patents that Microsoft already owns such as unlocked HTC 7 Surround. It expects that Samsung will return an offering for a total of $10 for each device that it creates, but the upper hand is definitely on Microsoft’s side in this case since the company also had a number of lawsuits recently with Apple, and the fact that Microsoft has teamed up with Facebook to combat the new Google social network, it appears as if every company is fighting each other on a different front. Apple has also attacked Samsung claiming that they copycat devices that they say also infringes on the patents that they have. Since they have been constantly tied up in these battles, this one seems most definitely favor Microsoft over any other organization. It will be interesting to see if they reach some sort of pre-determined amount in court, or if they come to an agreement before that. It is clear that if Microsoft takes the court that they will win, and will probably reach a similar agreement to the agreement that was reached with  HTC just last year. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft also continues to target other companies that are using their patented technology in the future.

  • New Huawei MediaPad Tablet
Posted on June 21, 2011 by Pure Mobile

New Huawei MediaPad TabletThe company Huawei has now announced their brand-new MediaTab tablet.  The new tablet will run on the Android 3.2 operating system, which is also known as honeycomb.  It will be a 7 inch tablet provided by Huawei, a company that has been looking to get into the tablet industry for quite some time.  The MediaTab will have a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, along with a nice five megapixel camera at the back of the device, accompanied by a 1.3 megapixel camera at the front of the device that will support video chats, and other great features that should make it one of the premier tablets released in recent memory.

    New Huawei MediaPad Tablet

Along with the previously mentioned features you can also look forward to a top-of-the-line WiFi network technology, and HDM I out output that will allow for you to play the tablet screen on other displays including your television set, a micro-SD card slot that will allow you to add up to 32 GB of additional storage, expanding the functionality of the device as a whole.  The Huawei media pad is one that has been highly anticipated by users for quite some time, and the specs that we have seen so far seem to deliver on the demands and expectations of their customers.  The device will supposedly have an excellent battery life that will be much longer than most of the tablets that are currently out there on the market.  At the very least, they are expected to deliver more than six hours of battery life and all.  The MediaTab is expected to launch for the first time for consumer purchases this fall.

    New Huawei MediaPad Tablet

So far the company has not indicated what the price for the tablet will be.  It is expected, that the device will be relatively low-priced in an effort to make it affordable to the average user.  Huawei is a company that has been teeming with American companies in recent times to expand their reach to North America, even though they are already quite a popular company throughout Asia for their excellent contributions to both the mobile phone market as well as the smart device market as a whole.  This will be their first tablet they have released and a lot is expected out of the Huawei MediaTab.

  • HTC Sensation 4G
Posted on June 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

HTC Sensation 4GThe unlocked HTC (Sensation 4G) is a device that has received a lot of attention as of late and for a good reason - it is one of the better devices that T-Mobile has ever had available on their platform. The features are impressive, the specs may even surpass the features, and it is quick with almost zero noticeable lag. To say the least, it is a device that can compete with any smart phone that has been released in recent memory. Featuring the dual core Snapdragon processor and a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2, it packs a punch to remember.

The design and look of the device is great. It is surprisingly lightweight, and features two LED flashes along with 1080p Hd video capturing technology. The front facing camera on the device allows for video chat, which seems to come standard on most devices today. The phone is thin, and can fit into a pocket comfortably without issue.

    HTC Sensation 4G

It runs on the new Sense 3.0 user interface. Normally, user interfaces provided by companies are subpar, but Sense is ahead of the pack and runs on top of the Android operating system, providing a unique experience that is great for the phone. The phone has made some interesting changes to the way that browsing is done, but for the most part the device is the same in terms of usability. ‘

The battery life of the phone is much better than previous HTC releases such as HTC Google Nexus One unlocked, HD7, etc.., and it boasts the longest battery life of any HTC release at this time. It is an amazing device, and although they could have shaved off some weight and allowed for the Snapdragon processor to keep up with the 1 GHz dual core Tegra 2, it runs seamlessly without lag or hiccups for the most part.

  • App That Steals Passwords Banned
Posted on June 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Getting rid of spyware and other malware in apps is something that Apple has always been pretty on top of, and them getting rid of a recent app that steals your passcodes is really no surprise overall. The app that was called the “Big Brother Camera Security” app that was used to steal the passcodes of users. The app was created by the developer Daniel Amity.

    App That Steals Passwords Banned

The app attempts to trick users into setting a new passcode that is identical to the pin that they use to lock their unlocked iPhone 4 It was not clear exactly what he was going to be using that passcode for, but you can bet that it was going to be for something malicious. The developers intentions did not seem to be malicious from the get go, but apple was not going to allow that kind of app will be allowed in their marketplace. Apple is not willing to take the risk that the app would be used for the right purposes throughout its life.

The app was banned from the app store, without them even giving them the chance to remake the app to get rid of the issues that got the app banned in the first place. The private PIN’s were not going to be able to be directly tied to the users that had installed the app, but who knows what they could have used them for in due time.

    App That Steals Passwords Banned

This comes on the heels of the apps for android phones such as Motorola Atrix unlocked, HTC Desire, etc..  tore having many different problems with apps in their store being used for malware or malicious intent in recent days. With all of the attention that has been placed on that in recent days it was clear that Apple was not willing to take any risks with the Big Brother app.

  • Google Gets Rid of Malware Posed as angry Birds AdditionsGoogle has been hard at work to get rid of the apps that have made it into their marketplace that contain malware for the Android operating system such as unlocked Samsung Galaxy II, Xperia Play from Sony Ericsson. This is the third time a batch of Android malware has been discovered and has essentially been labeled “Plankton.” Apparently the app had the ability to access a server for instructions on what the app should do next.

This is a pretty stealthy was for these developers to get their malware into the Android marketplace. With all of the questions that have arisen in recent weeks as a result of all of the malware that has been found in the Android marketplace it is apparent that Google is doing everything in their power to root out the issues.

Unlike previous apps, Plankton did not use holes in the security of the phone to attack the user, but instead called to instructions that were stored on another server to do its dirty work. They also chose to promote the app as an add on to Angry Birds, which is easily one of the most popular games in the history of mobile. It will certainly be interesting to see how these apps are packaged in the future to get an idea of what to avoid. The hackers also packaged the apps as Cheat Apps for Angry Birds, which helped the apps to spread much more quickly. Previous apps utilized trojan horses that infiltrate the phone such as LG Eve GW 620 unlocked, HTC Desire, etc.. and send text messages to numbers, driving up the cost for the user. Google continues to fight the malware attacks but it is clear that people are looking to exploit vulnerabilities in the operating system. It will be interesting to see how Google responds to these threats moving forward and whether or not they will be able to put an end to the uploading of illegal materials.

  • Sprint Heightening WiMax Speeds by 50 PercentAll Sprint users are going to be happy to hear that the company will be giving them a bump in their speeds for their network. The upload speeds specifically are going to be bumped for users of the WiMax network by up to 50%, which should allow for cell phone users such as Motorola Atrix unlocked, HTC Incredible S, etc..to transfer more data in a timely fashion. However, as you might have been able to guess, there is a catch that you have to deal with if you are looking to upgrade the speeds.

The upload speeds, as of right now, have been capped at a mere 1 Megabyte per second. This means that even with the new speeds in place, you will only be able to upload at just 1.5 megabits per second. This is not all that great because Verizon is currently offering users as much as 5 to 7 megabytes per second through their 4G LTE Network, which is by far some of the fastest that the mobile industry has to offer. Although the improvement is a free one and is going to bring users something that they have never had before, you can not help but wish that they would allow for the bump to go just a little bit higher.

Sprint Heightening WiMax Speeds by 50 Percent

Sprint’s network has always been touted as one of the best but is still a few steps behind what has been offered by Verizon and other companies in recent years. Customers will notice that their speeds will increase by as much as 50% over the course of ht next few weeks, but in all the upload speed change should be hardly noticeable unless you are uploading audio and video files, and even then you will only be able to notice a bit of a difference.

It is good to see that they are making changes to keep up with the rest of the industry but you would hope that they would be able to provide users with a little more than they have with this upgrade. Their WiMax has been highly touted, but it is clear that they have a ways to go before keeping up with the leaders in the space.

  • ComScore States Android Continues GrowthComScore has announced something that most people that follow the mobile industry will already be aware of - the fact that Android has continued to grow at a quick rate and has been able to surpass some of their competition over the course of the last few months. In January of 2011, the Android operating system had just over 31% of the total subscriber base. Now, it has been announced that they have 36.4% of the total number of subscribers, leading to a 5.2 percent increase over that period of time. They are rapidly capturing market share with excellent device releases and updates that have attracted a lot of new users.

Over that same period of time, Apple’s unlocked iphone 4 has also gained some of the smart phone subscriber base, moving forward 1.3 percent from January to April to a total of 26.0%. By that same token, the biggest loser over this period of time was undoubtedly Research in Motion. They saw their overall share of the Smartphone subscriber base fall an astounding 3.7 percent between January and April, falling to 25.7 percent and officially falling below apple for the first time in the history of the industry in this score.

    ComScore States Android Continues Growth

Microsoft has actually seen the percentage of smart phone subscribers dip over this period as well, but many of these users are users of the previous Windows operating system for smart devices such as HTC HD 7, Dell Streak unlocked etc..which is being phased out so they are expected to lower over the course of the next few months while the user base of their main focus, Windows Phone 7 continues to grow.  In all, good news for Apple and Google, and depressing news for Research In Motion and other companies that have seen their numbers fall in the first half of 2011.

  • Google Uses Location Based News
Posted on May 20, 2011 by Pure Mobile

As of right now, Google’s location based news services do not have the best reputation because of the bugs that they have had recently, but Google seems to be eager to put them out there to the public regardless. Now, they have released a new service titled “News Near you.” The entire purpose of “News Near you” is for you to receive local news automatically when you log in to the service from your android cell phone such as unlocked Motorola Atrix, HTC Inspire, etc.. It will then provide you with the news from your local area that might be relevant to you based on your search history and other factors that dictate which local news that are going to display for you.

    Google Uses Location Based News

You point your Android and Safari browser to the news page. Then, you agree to use your current location to get news for the area around you. There will be a number of local stories that are placed in a category on the left site of the page. This allows you to get the local news without having to actually alter the regular news feed. A quick test of the service shows that there is quite a bit of news out there for all of the different local areas so it might be something that is worth checking out to find great local stories that might not be mainstream news with your local news sources.

    Google Uses Location Based News

Look for Google to continue to release more location based services if this most recent release is any indication of where the company is heading next. They have put together a really great service that allows for you to get an aggregation of the local news in your area based on where you are when you log into the site using your cell phone . While this service is still in the early stages, its shows a lot of potential in terms of how much local news it is able to deliver.
