  • The EVO 4G released
Posted on June 9, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Although you might have heard of the fact that there are many different hacking communities all over the Internet having been able to obtain unrestricted administrative rights for the unreleased version of Sprint EVO 4G, nothing was officially released. But now with the newly released Unlocked  HTC ( Evo 4G ), you can make sure that you have in your hands one of the best smart phones around. Just released for sale in the United States, the HTC Evo 4G has been taken issued to the mobile carrier Sprint and is available on a two year contract for a price of just $199. At an additional cost of $10, you would be able to add data as well to your two year contract. Complete with an on-screen presentation of 480 x 800 pixels and the 4.3 inch TFT screen, you can make use of the eight megapixel camera along with the inbuilt flash to record high definition videos. With a fixed width 512 of RAM and an internal memory capacity of 1 GB, you also get an included 8 GB external memory card together with the 1.3 megapixel front camera.

While rumors are also doing the rounds on the internet that it is possible you can get the device for $140 through Wirefly, you are advised not to as the amount of trouble you have to spend on it is too much. At the same time, if you do go to the Wirefly website to purchase the HTC Evo 4G , you would realize that there is actually no mention of the extra $10 you would have to pay for the 4G service, irrespective of whether the service is available in your area or not. Frankly speaking, it is best that you get the HTC Unlocked ( Evo 4G ) together with Sprint as it can save you much ado.

  • Earlier today T-Mobile announced that the HTC Unlocked ( myTouch  3G Slide ) will become available to shoppers on June 2nd.  While the myTouch 3G Slide is nowhere near the most advanced Android smartphone on the market many people are very excited about its pending release.  This particular handset will come with the Android OS which is quickly becoming the most popular operating system for cellular devices.  In addition to that there will be many top notch features included with the myTouch 3G Slide that is easily going to this a great smartphone.

T-Mobile announced this device will carry a price tag of $179.99 after a $50 mail in rebate.  This price is being deemed on the high side by some people as it is only $20 cheaper than Sprint’s EVO 4G that is projected to launch 4 days later for $199.99.  While you may be paying almost the same price with the myTouch 3G Slide I think that this is still a good deal for this type of smartphone.  With a large touchscreen, sliding QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth and the latest Android techonology the $179.99 price tag does not seem to be asking that much for this particular handset.

Along with all of the great features and specs associated with the myTouch 3G Slide you will also get T-Mobile’s network which is one of the best networks you can join.  Rarely do people have any significant issues while using T-Mobile’s cellular network and I would not expect things to change when using the myTouch 3G Slide.

  • Due to an inadequate supply of parts there has been a widespread shortage of HTC Unlocked (Incredible) Android devices according to Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam.  While having been unable to stockpile enough key components such as the WVGA capacitive display assemblies manufactured by Samsung, entire shipments of the HTC-made Android smartphone are selling out within hours of their arrival at retail stores.  According to McAdam the shortages are so severe that Verizon Wireless has had to pull way back on the number of deliveries in order to focus on online sales.  If there had not been such a shortage of handsets the Incredible would have easily outsold its predecessor the Motorola DROID.  Roughly 100,000 units of the Incredible were sold in the first two days this device was on the market.  Verizon’s website claims that orders for the Incredible will be fulfilled by June 3rd.

It appears that the demand for the Droid Incredible has far exceeded Verizon’s expectations.  This is good news and bad news for the cell phone manufacturer.  Of course it is great news that their new Android device is such a big hit with consumers but it is unfortunate that they are unable to keep these smartphones in stock due to an inadequate supply of parts.  The HTC Google Nexus One Android gadget was predicted to be one of the hotter Android devices on the market when it was released but I am willing to bet that many industry experts did not foresee this shortage of units.  Nor did they ever think these devices would be selling out within hours of being delivered to stores.  Hopefully Verizon gets their act together quickly so that everyone who is eagerly waiting to get their hands on one of these new smartphones can do so before June 3rd as Verizon mentioned.

  • Earlier today cell phone network Sprint announced that the forthcoming HTC Unlocked (EVO 4G) will be one of the first mobile handsets in the US to support live video chats.  The application that will be used for these video chats is being provided Qik, which already offers a live video streaming service for smartphones.  Sprint did not mention if this feature would incur extra charges on top of the required data plan.

The new HTC EVO 4G can also handle simultaneous voice and data sessions in 4G markets.  This new phone will also be able to stream HD video content.  According to Sprint it will be the first mobile device with ability to watch YouTube videos in “high quality.”

The HTC EVO 4G will require a $70/month Everything Unlimited plan and WiMax 4G access will incur an additional $10 per month which is mandatory for certain 4G devices no matter if there is WiMax coverage or not.  Consumers can also choose to make the EVO 4G hotspot available for up to eight devices for an additional $30 per month.  The HTC EVO 4G is set for release on June 4th.

As if we needed more features for the Unlocked HTC Phone ( EVO 4G) to get us excited about its pending release on June 4th Sprint makes this announcement today that this device will be able to handle live video chats.  Consumers are already excited about the reported speeds of the 4G network and the high quality video that is supposedly going to accompany the HTC EVO 4G.  Now with this announcement that people will be able to hold live video chats on their mobile devices will surely prompt a few more consumers to purchase this new mobile device when it finally hits the stores.

  • In a recent call to discuss their first quarter earnings Clearwire mentioned that WiMAX-capable phones bearing the Clear name from both Samsung and HTC Pure Unlocked phones are “expected” to be available before 2010 is over which appears to be pretty optimistic based on earlier comments from the company stating that consumers should not expect any WiMAX phones before the end of 2010.

Clearwire describes the Samsung device as “an Android based 3G/4G/WiFi device optimized for heavy video and video communications use,” while the HTC handset does not mention a platform and is simply called “a 3G/4G/WiFi enabled phone.”  The lack of a platform for the HTC is leading many industry experts to assume that this device will be running Windows Phone 7.  If this is really the case it is understandable why HTC wouldn’t want Clearwire to mention their HTC device will have Windows Phone 7 since HTC themselves have not made any formal announcement for plans to jump into the Windows Phone 7 market.

This announcement by Clearwire is pretty optimistic news about the potential of having WiMAX devices on the market before the end of the calendar year.  Especially since Clearwire has already gone on the record saying to not expect any WiMAX devices before the end f the 2010 this news is especially exciting.  Add in the fact that it appears Unlocked HTC Pure is working on a Windows Phone 7 device and this announcement has the chance to be one of the biggest announcements of the year in the smartphone world.  It looks like we will have to wait a little while for official word on this Windows Phone 7 device from HTC but from what I have been reading about the potential for some of these upcoming Windows Phone 7 handsets I can not wait to hear what HTC is looking to put out on the market.

  • Recently Google has been busy updating its phone sales site and the latest word for Verizon Wireless customers looking to get their hands on a Nexus One is to look at the “similarly feature-packed” cousin of the Nexus One, the Incredible.  One important fact that is left out of the update on their sales site is the “coming soon” tag which suggests that the Nexus One has been discontinued for Verizon Wireless customers.

In a separate blog post updating us on carrier partnerships, Google once again reiterates its mini-advertisement for the new HTC phone on Verizon while not mentioning anything about the Nexus One’s future.  While a true CDMA variant should still be coming on the Sprint network Google is still making it quite difficult to understand whether or not the Nexus One for Verizon has been canceled.

Update: In a recent update Google has just informed the tech website engadget that the Nexus One for the Verizon Wireless network is officially dead.  Below is Google’s official statement:
We won't be selling a Nexus One with Verizon, and this is a reflection of the amazing innovation happening across the open Android ecosystem. Verizon Wireless customers who want an Android phone with the power of the Nexus One can get the Droid Incredible by HTC.

This is all certainly understandable and nice to see Google finally come out and say what many have been speculating for a while.  Now that we know the Nexus One is officially dead for the Verizon network customers of this cell phone network can focus their attention on the Incredible by HTC for all of their Android needs or purchase an ulocked HTC Hero to use.

  • In yet another internal memo it looks like the Sprint Hero is set to receive the Android 2.1 update in early May.  According to other internal memos the Hero was supposed to have had Android 2.1 last week so we can not really count on these memos to be highly accurate.  However, this latest news does come from two different sources.  The guys over at Android Guys got a customer service rep on the phone who said:

Agent (Jolly K): “I am sorry for misinformation. The updates says that Android 2.1 HTC Hero is being launched in the first week ok [sic] May”

HTC Hero 3G NAM White Telus Unlocked GSM Cellular Phone

At about the same time the fellas over at Phandroid got their hands on a camera shot of a memo indicating the same thing saying the Hero can expect the upgrade to Android 2.1 in early May.

For those of you wondering what the hold up might be Sprint is notorious for their update certification process.  If they even get the smallest inkling of a bug they will delay the roll out until the bug is fixed and can be re-tested.  So I am assuming there was some sort of last minute bug that appeared and Sprint is thoroughly testing any patches that were put in place to correct this problem.  While it might be a bit of a pain to have to wait on receiving your Android update it is much better than having several issues with your mobile device once the new OS is released.

Since Hero customers have waited this long I am sure that you can hold out for another week or two to ensure that your HTC Hero mobile phone will continue to work the way you would like it to after the release of the Android 2.1 operating system.

  • In a recent interview with Bloomberg, HTC CFO Cheng Hui-ming was quoted as saying that HTC is currently exploring options to possibly create their own smartphone OS.  Cheng stated that HTC has no plans to abandon support for Microsoft’s Windows Phone and Google’s Android while exploring these options to create their own OS.  One thing Cheng was not so eager to discuss was HTC’s rumored plans to acquire Palm, the popular mobile device company.

Many analysts believe that HTC having their own operating system would ultimately benefit the cellular company by giving them more control over their products.  However, to oversee its initial and continued development would require a significant amount of resources that HTC might not have at the current moment.

    HTC Cell Phones

If HTC was to develop their own OS it would be interesting to see how it compares to Windows Phone OS and the Google Android OS.  HTC would certainly be venturing into a new territory in the mobile device market.  Ultimately I do agree with the analysts that this move of HTC creating their own OS would be a good idea.  By having so much more control over their devices HTC will be able to tailor their mobile phones to their customer’s wants and needs.  If they created their own operating system they would be able to add specific features to their phones that perhaps Windows or Google’s Android do not currently have.   Also, by creating their own OS HTC will be allowing for greater variety within the smartphone marketplace.  This is something that I am sure many consumers will appreciate as it will give them even more devices to choose from and select the phones that fit their current lifestyle the best.

  • For those eagerly awaiting the release of the Android 2.1 OS your wait might be over sooner than you think.  In a leaked statement it looks as if Sprint is set to roll out the Android 2.1 to the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment in April.  With all of the anticipation of the Nexus One joining the Sprint Android family of devices this has caused users of the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment to become even more intrigued about this Android 2.1 OS.  This new Android OS is sure to greatly enhance these two mobile devices and make them even better than what they currently are.

In the leaked statement to Sprint employees it appears that Sprint is actively working on releasing the Android 2.1 platform to the Hero and Moment customers in the coming weeks.  Sprint realizes that consumers don’t only expect more from their wireless devices they demand more from them and are looking to be constantly connected.  With this realization Sprint is actively working towards releasing the Android 2.1 to their customers in the coming weeks.  More information can be expected in April.

Also, Sprint would like to remind their customers that they are the only carrier to have the HTC Hero which picked up top honors as the Best Mobile Handset at the 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.  Also, About.com readers have nominated the HTC Hero as their favorite smartphone for the 2010 Reader’s Choice Awards.

With the addition of the Android 2.1 OS these phones are sure to garner even more attention and praise.  When Sprint rolls out the new Android version customers are sure to be delighted with their mobile devices while waiting for the new products to hit the shelves that will come with even more power and productivity.

  • In an announcement to their premier customers Sprint released an account alert asking their customers to “visit us tomorrow for an exciting announcement about a groundbreaking new device.”  No other details were provided but it is rumored that that this “groundbreaking new device” is the long rumored WiMAX smarphone.  This new WiMAX smartphone known as the HTC Supersonic comes equipped with a 4.3 inch screen and Android 2.1 with Sense UI.

Releasing a 4G device would certainly fit the “groundbreaking” category and there have already been plans to unveil the phone at CTIA.  There was a web chat transcript that was found on the Sprint Community that seems to corroborate.  In this web chat an interested consumer asks customer support if a new Android device is going to hit the market soon.  The customer support rep does in fact confirm that a new smartphone device is going to be available very soon.

The announcement of this new phone is a welcome sight to any consumers who were waiting for a new Android phone to hit the market.  This new HTC Supersonic is supposedly going to be one of the most high powered phones on the market today.  The 4.3 inch screen will make surfing the web and browsing through contacts and music a breeze.  Also, this new mobile device is going to be part of the Android 2.1 OS which is supposed to be much more powerful than the original Android OS.

I know that I am quite excited to see what this potentially new unlocked cell phone is actually going to be and what this new announcement is all about.  If it is in fact going to be an  announcement about the new HTC Supersonic than you can expect Sprint CEO Dan Hesse to talk about this in his keynote speech on Wednesday at CTIA.
