  • Motorola’s streak of launching new devices one after the other and they have in fact announced that they will soon be releasing around twenty Android phones this year. There is a new collection of phones which will be released soon which comprises of small portrait slide phones which are really similar to the Unlocked Palm Pre, all the while retaining the Droid characters and properties. We have recently got some spy pictures of these phones which show us that these are going to be strong Android phones. Let us look at the basics of this new line of phones.

Contrary to all of the smartphones present in the market which are tending to the large phones with big touch screens, the Motorola unlocked phones which they are coming out with in the market are targeted to the market. The cell phone market has been focusing very much recently on the smartphone market but Motorola has remembered the lower end customers with a large number of budget phones like the Backflip, CLIQ and Devour. Although we find it somewhat unlikely, this phone may just make its way to Verizon.

We are not really upbeat about the design but we will reserve our judgment for the time when we actually do get the phones with us. Actually, the truth is that we were not big fans of this original Motorola Droid unlocked handset but in fact it has grown on us and we have slowly started looking into how this phone might be. The keyboard layout is pretty good but the screen might be somewhat cluttered for the taste of the Android fans who are used to a larger screen. This phone will not be coming only with built in UI but will sport Motoblur and the likes. Keep your eyes peeled for more news about this new line.

  • Given the technological advancements in the recent years almost everything is possible. And of the many that already exists, there is still one more feather to be added to the hat. For, if you thought texting from cell phone while under water was impossible, here is an innovation that allows you to text even while inside a submarine. A buoy of length of around forty inches helps transmitting texts while you are under water. This innovation can revolutionize SMS transmitting when under water.

The mechanism is plain and simple and easy to guess. The buoy is attached to the main body of the submarine by huge lengths of cables which if need be can be easily severed. Lockheed Martin was attributed for designing the whole system and step two would be to further improvise on the design and make it even smarter. That would imply cutting the cords and implementing a system that can resemble the working of a sonar system. Such an instrument can even be dropped from planes if need be.

The more advantageous aspects are however that the submarine becomes less threatened or vulnerable and this new technology guarantees safety. At least it should be safer than the more traditional methods. At the present moment however, the submarine will have to elevate to almost the periscope level if it wants to communicate. The readily available communication that this system guarantees is far more prospective. Although there are many who are still skeptical about the whole idea, it seems to have promise and the idea is definitely bright. So all in all this can again turn out to be a real promising technique and particularly sailors under water would be more than happy to actually avail it. The essential parts look good, for instance the safety of those inside the submarine is increased and they can, if this is put to practical use, can keep in touch with anyone.

  • New LTE network by Verizon
Posted on August 1, 2010 by Pure Mobile

The United States of America should be real happy and excited now with all the prospective launches lining up. Almost five months of this year still remaining and the prospects are booming. There are a whole lot of smartphones still lined up for the launch and added to it are the new upgraded versions of the much loved Motorola milestone Unlocked Android Phone and the Windows. And to provide for the icing on the cake, Verizon is all set to launch their brand new LTE network. According to the reports of the documents that were leaked recently to Engadget, the LTE network which is slated to come to the market promises the users with a download speed that can vary between five to over eleven megabit for every second and an upload speed of over two and below five megabits for every second. It has a latency of a jaw dropping thirty milliseconds.

All these make a lethal combination and no wonder it is highly anticipated. In comparison to the networks provided by T-Mobiles and Sprint it will have a huge and far superior advantage. This might not hit you with surprise if you have been following Verizon for it is an operator which concentrates and invests heavily in on their networking implementations rather than anything else. The costs and prices that come along side these schemes can be obscenely high but they provide for a very excellent network coverage and you end up getting good reception almost everywhere. The USB modems will be the foremost devices to launch alongside this network as is usual. LTE smartphone launch seems to be a far cry but it will come by anyway. There are some arguments as to how operators will offer voice services.

Although the OneVoice initiative is getting backed vehemently by the industry, one can debate over their operating inside jungles and when in the wild. However the most interesting part of the whole deal is the SIM card branded by Verizon which puts in question the purity of the LTE network.

  • It has been finally announced that Nokia Siemens has indeed purchased Motorola’s network equipment division. $1.2 billion is not bad considering the fact that they will now be in quite a good position in North America to steadily grow in the market. The purchase will raise a few eyebrows as it really puts them in a really strong position.

New York Times ran a story saying that this purchase was not a sudden decision but the conclusion of a long drawn out effort to compete against the likes of Unlocked  Ericsson phone and Huawei of China. They have been repeatedly thwarted in their effort to be able to claim a position such as this and finally they have succeeded by buying the Motorola network equipment division.

The acquisition might prove to be a very valuable one as it gives Nokia Siemens a stronghold in the market of North America. It had failed on two auctions in the past and this acquisition ends that drought. Although, the two companies who had beaten Nokia Siemens in the past are having to pay more annual revenue than Nokia Siemens has to pay for the Motorola business. Nokia Siemens has really met tough competitors in North America but this move will hopefully be crucial for them. A separate venture might be just the perfect choice for Nokia Siemens after this purchase. The competitive market in North America is really not the place for the way to do business which is conducive to Nokia Siemens. So, a split would be advisable after they have purchased the Motorola division.

This purchase may catapult them to new heights but they have to be cautious in the way they approach this move. They can have steady influence in the market but it has to be well planned out. Only time will tell how influential would this purchase be.

  • Steve Jobs blamed San Francisco to be too slow in advancement and says it takes up to three years to get a cell tower built in San Francisco. This might shed new light into the enigma of poor reception in San Francisco. The local Government is to be blamed instead of AT & T according to Steve Jobs. The network building problem was brought up by Steve Jobs in the recent ‘Antennagate’ conference.

AT & T has been making numerous efforts including great investments in order to better the network but it has been futile in places like San Francisco because of lack of support from the Government. The lack of tech press in San Francisco is another reason for this particular problem going unnoticed. Although AT & T may be responsible to a certain extent in not being able to imagine the demand created by Apple Unlocked iphone 4 but according to Steve Jobs, the blame should be shouldered by the Government.

Jobs expressed his support for AT & T saying that the company has made several moves to better the network by putting up cellular towers but if they are not allowed to do what is required then all the initiative goes to waste. There is no scope for investment if the local Governments are reluctant about all this. This is particularly strange for Jobs as he says that most people in the Government of San Francisco own an Apple iphone.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski may be the ideal man to better this anomalous condition. The ‘shot clock’ method devised by him can be the best way to get the infrastructure ready in little time. This may be the last resort for cell phone carriers like AT & T to be able to improvise and invest on creating as many cell towers as possible in order to better the reception quality in places such as San Francisco.

  • Motorola is ready with softwares for their latest release Unlocked Droid( X). It hasn’t been a week since its launch and Motorola is already prepared to sort out everything with software updates which will be available in the handsets soon. The Android operating system may not be undergoing a major update with this software update but it is sure going to bring about some nice positive changes. The changes will only help Droid X be more efficient. Version 1.13.604.en.US is going to be the update which will make your Android handset far more efficient.

The improvements that are generally noted are quite a few and are sure to enhance quality. The battery charging indicator is going to be enhanced. This will be followed by faster e-mail processing with ActiveSync and also notable camera functionality improvements. The features and contact details information will also be organized better with this software update. Voice mailing and Bluetooth connection is also going to benefit from this upgrade. The display will be bettered in a number of ways other than the battery charger indicator including the date and time display and GPS symbol. All these will definitely give Droid X a new and improved look.
The software update is set to reach the handsets soon but it is not specified. It will arrive soon and is going to bring about a whole lot of great changes for your cell phone to function in a much better manner. The software update is surely going to wipe away all doubts and concerns raised initially and credit has to be given to Motorola for acting fast. The problems were rather insignificant but the software update is a positive move which is surely going to benefit Motorola  and also everyone who has a Droid X in their possession. Everyone just has to be patient and wait for the update to arrive.

  • We recently received great details and photographs of the Apple Game Center which will be accessible both on the iPad and unlocked iPhone4. Although this sort of online game network is not really anything new as the world has already seen Xbox Live but we feel that the Game Center definitely needs a change graphically as the preview that we have got does indeed only show the basic details of the service and indeed is nothing much in comparison to the others which are available in the market.  Not only graphically, but we also thankfully got to check out the changes also in the iOS 4.1 SDK which we do welcome. Let us look closer to the design of the Game Center.

Graphics on the opening log in screen is much better than what it used to be and the look is far more inviting than before. As was the case before, you can get your account created and sign in from this page directly which will redirect you to the “Me” page which gives you the account details. Here you can change your status and shuffle through your friends lists as well as the games and requests that you have pending. Friend requests can be tracked by a special nickname or the account ID which all of the users are given in the Game Center domain. Good news for parents is that they can actually have some control over what their children will play and with whom they interact with while playing.

We are pretty pleased with the update for the Game Center and the app indeed looks pretty impressive now and is much better than what it was before in the phone. We will not give the final verdict just yet as the time we had with this device was pretty less but we feel that this could make a serious dent in the existing online gaming market.

  • Verizon Kills the Kin
Posted on July 28, 2010 by Pure Mobile

We had got some reports from our sources that the nation’s biggest cell phone carrier will be doing away with the Microsoft Kin and this fear was confirmed as the company has later confirmed that they will indeed be doing this and pretty soon. In a recent statement which was given by the company in this relation said that they will indeed no longer be selling the Kin in both ‘One’ and ‘Two’ variants in their own flagship stores. The customers who are already using this phone will however be not affected with the reversal. The company has announced that all kinds of customer care facilities will be available for this phone. One good thing with this pull back is that the company did not have many customers of this phone as it is.

Indeed both these phones are really not the top of the line social networking devices and we will really not be missing it that much. The Kin One was a rather oddly shaped machine and the other variant the Kin Two had a slider QWERTY key pad. The phones were okay but nothing really great. The cell phones themselves had a custom edition of the Windows mobile platform. So they seem to be more or less okay mobile phones but what did go wrong than within a few months this device has to be shelved? The major reason was the shortcomings of the Windows phone which does not allow the users to download new applications on the device. We found this to be really one of the major downsides of this phone. What followed was some gross mismanagement on the part of Microsoft and some miscommunication from Verizon meant that they did not enter into an agreement over the data plan and Verizon wanted to take up the smartphone spectrum instead.

  • As time goes our demands from mobile internet is increasing and we want to get the much dreamed about levels of 500 MHz for mobile broadband. However this is still a distant dream as it will take around 10 years to achieve this. However the short term gains that we are getting are pretty good either ways. FCC has set a target to reach the level of 300 MHz within the next three years and is working towards just that. Some time back in the previous month, FCC had expressed their intentions of grabbing the 90 MHz spectrum of the Big Leo and had caused many discussions about what would happen to the 35 MHz band which was there.

The most exciting thing about this is that all these large bandwidths that we are talking about are exclusively for mobile broadband internet. The news we mentioned above is old, however more recently FCC has shown their interests in working with MSS which is also known as Mobile Satellite  and get the 90 MHz service bands which have the 2 GHz bad and the L-band along with the Big Leo of course. What all this means in a nut shell is that the mobile broadband industry will be expanding at a higher rate now as every small addition assists in acting as a filler for the 500 MHz width that is set aside.

Other than this, we have also received news that Clearwire has been given an extension for its primary trading zones to be completed in Florida. As per the reports that we have got, Clearwater had been asked to exchange some of the 2.5 GHz licenses in the Boca Raton Areas of West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale in Miami. This was supposed to happen much before but did not due to the high amount of licenses needed in the areas above.

  • It has been a regular trend that Android devices are rooted before they are officially introduced. US variants of Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S are set to follow suit. Samsung Galaxy S seems to have managed to get rooted already and it is sure to be of great attraction. This indicates the fact that the Vibrant can be got and rooted as early as tomorrow. This is quite sensational news for many. LeshaK of Samdroid is considered the first to be able to get root access to the Samsung Galaxy S. XDA also has been instrumental in getting this to work with US versions.

This has made Vibrant even more attractive and appealing. It has a great look which is highly persuasive and it can be easily packed with a custom Android 2.2 Froyo ROM. This is what makes it a super innovative device and sets it apart from the rest. Additional qualities are also present.

With assistance of the root method, it is possible to run new software in phones like Samsung Unlocked (TouchWiz) if you are not happy with the present softwares, It is known that there has been custom ROM for the original Samsung Galaxy S for quite some time now, however, it has so far not been tested on a US model.

The root is quite easy and is almost as simple as connecting the device to a computer. By just starting a file, you will have access to some root-only applications which are tremendously classy. It is an amazing process. Galaxy S variants are quickly spreading and although it will never manage to be the best around, it may be quite close to securing that position. They have been efficient is getting thus far and it wouldn’t be surprising if they manage to lead the pack in the near future.
