For the longest time now, Blackberry Playbook users have been waiting for Android app compatibility, native email, PIM access and calendar applications to be officially released.  It seems that the waiting time is over with the planned February release of this long awaited Playbook OS 2 version which will include these apps on a new QNX operating system.  We believe these upgrades coupled with a $300 OFF price tag, will allow the tablet to enjoy more invigorating sales volumes.

Blackberry Playbook OS 2- Scheduled For A February Release

The Blackberry Playbook OS @ brings numerous changes to the platform, squarely aimed to make this device a gem within the developer community.  The Playbook OS 2 supports among other things,  Adobe Air 3 and Flash 11 are supported, Open GL ES 2.0 and Open AL along with RIM’s Native SDK –which brings support for C/C++ apps.  The Blackberry Playbook OS 2 RIM allows standards-based apps built using web code like HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and even WebGL with the introduction of WebWorks and a much-improved browser.  Users will no doubt want to further exploit and enhance the Blackberry Playbook OS 2 with accessories like, docks, memory cards, earpieces and headsets as well as speakers.

Yet, given the RIM's numerous stumbles over this past year, this handful of free apps is a step in the right direction to win back market favor.  Finally, the Blackberry Playbook — which has always been a capable, powerful tablet — is getting an OS that is more on par with its hardware.  It now time to protect your device with branded tablet accessories.

It's the most explosive development in the tablet market since the release of the original iPad and the latest apple tablet the iPad2. The launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire represents a major shot across the bow at Apple, according to a new ChangeWave survey which primarily targeted North American consumers.

Tablet Demand - Plan to buy next 90 daysAccording to ChangeWave demand for tablets this holiday season is three (3) times higher than for the same period last year.

It seems that today, shoppers have broadened their tablet interest from to include the Kindle Fire from Amazon... you can view more in this consumer demand survey

The more interesting stat, perhaps, is that more than a quarter of respondents in ChangeWave’s survey who confirmed an imminent Kindle Fire purchase said they would buy the Amazon tablet in place of an iPad.

“Tablet providers (Iconia, Xoom, Flyer, Galaxy Tab, PlayBook, etc) have failed to gain appreciable traction against iPad’s 67% market share, and iPad 2 should be a popular holiday purchase,” indicated officials at ChangeWave. “However, strong early Fire uptake seems likely, raising speculation Apple now faces a real tablet contender. Survey data says 26% of likely Fire buyers (i.e. of the 5%) say they will delay/put on hold iPad buying. Sustained Fire uptake and ‘buzz’ will depend on consumer/reviewer reactions to Fire’s user experience.”

Tablet Planned PurchasingMoreover, when asked if they intended to purchase a tablet in the next 90 days, 14% of the 3,043 North American consumers surveyed by ChangeWave said yes. Only 6% said they intended to purchase a tablet in a similar survey conducted in August, and just 4% intended to purchase a tablet in November last year. ChangeWave’s new survey also found that 65% of respondents intended to purchase Apple’s iPad 2, while 22% were eying the Kindle Fire. Only 4% of respondents intended to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and no other tablet vendor garnered more than 1% of interest among those polled.  We expect consumers that want protect and personalize their devices to  invest in most fashionable and trendy tablet accessories with the latest technology to enhance functionality

“The launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire is turning out be a real competitive threat to Apple, who until now has almost completely dominated the tablet space,” ChangeWave said. “But the most immediate impact of the Amazon device is on the rest of the competition, where the survey shows it wreaking a devastating blow to a range of second tier tablet manufacturers, including Motorola, RIM, Dell, HTC, H-P and Toshiba.”

Amazon’s tablet may end up helping Apple in the long run. “The ChangeWave survey shows the Amazon Kindle Fire is going to leapfrog the competition and become the number two product in the tablet market, as long as it can provide a quality user experience,” ChangeWave said.

  • RIM Introduces New BBX Platform
Posted on October 18, 2011 by Pure Mobile

There are few press conferences happening this week with the important ones being from Blackberry and Motorola. In typical fashion the major companies are aligning their conferences in time for the holiday season to build up the hype and speculation on what new and exciting features are going to be made available.

    RIM Introduces New BBX Platform

For last little while Blackberry has been under the gun in that they have long been seen as a phone that has been behind in the times. Most wondered when they will make significant improvements to their operating system. Well, the wait is finally over as Blackberry has just announced their new BBX platform.

The key feature of the operating system is that it is making use of HTML 5 and Blackberry is encouraging developers to use HTML 5 to bridge the gap other applications with the several Blackberry operating systems that are currently being used on their phones such as Unlocked Bold 9900, Torch 9860, etc. This includes Blackberry OS 6, Blackberry OS 7, as well as the native BBX platform set to be released shortly. Other features of the platform include support for integration into the Blackberry cloud service and their proprietary UI framework which will be available in the coming weeks.

RIM Introduces New BBX PlatformRIM hopes that the release of the BBX platform will be used to create what they term as super apps taking advantage of Blackberry BBM functionality that can make for a very unique and personal user experience.

If the BBX platform was released a year or so ago we would be excited about the features and possibilities that the platform provides. However, most of the functionality already exists on other operating systems on the market making the news not so great. We'll see how the launch of this platform will affect the overall perception of Blackberry as well as market share and support from developers they will receive.

  • One of the big issues surrounding cell phones these days is the ability to make calls to 911 services. Yes it does work but the current technology in place and not take advantage of all the features of a cell phone could offer when someone makes a call to 911. Ideally you should be able to send text messages, photos or videos to the 911 operator from your cell phone such as unlocked BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900.FCC Asks for All Phones to be GPS-capable by 2018

The FCC has been involved in trying to set regulations on the matter for very long time. Recently, they issued a press release that stated that they were aiming to make enhancements to the 911 service by the year 2018. The goal is to fully utilize the GPS capabilities of cell phones and have better efficiency and the ability of pinpointing the location of cell phones. With increased accuracy it should help to 911 operators and their response times and providing the right information to those who are going to help the situation.FCC Asks for All Phones to be GPS-capable by 2018

It is expected over 85% of all cell phones such as unlocked Samsung Infuse 4G will have GPS capabilities. This should make it easier to set up the proper infrastructure to support the other forms of communication to the 911 service. The downside to all this, is that there is not much support from the major carriers as they do not want to have mandated rules set up that they have to follow. Their belief is that it is not economically viable to impose that requirement as a rule of law. What's good about the FCC making a statement is that it sets the tone for change and will encourage the carriers to place the issue towards the top of their lists of service enhancements.

There is still quite a bit of time for all those involved to come up with a solution that makes the 911 service better overall. It's fair to say that with the technology innovation that's happening as quickly as it is will most likely change the path to which the carriers implement the FCC mandate.

  • The Amazon Kindle is a device that they are really trying to create a full library like environment with. They now are linking up with more than 11,000 libraries across the country, and are going to be launching their lending service. This is a huge moment for the device that has become the most popular e-book reader in the world and continues to be a great seller for Amazon. There are more than 11,000 participating libraries across the country that are going to be using the new service that they are offering in order to bring more reading to users across the country. The e-book that you are going to be reading is going to be delivered to you through wi-fi or through USB. This is supported on any device that has the Kindle application installed and is going to be available for a number of different platforms including PC, Android operating system, Apple IOS such as unlocked iphone 4 & ipad, like Barry, and Windows Phone 7 devices.

Amazon Kindle Now Has Library Features and Lending

As of right now there are going to be no limitations on what you can borrow from the library title wise, and users are going to be able to see the real page number so that they are going to be able to synchronize notes. It is definitely something that many users are going to be interested in because it is going to provide a number of interesting features that are going to allow them to be able to read quite a bit more. Giving you access to these free books will definitely increase the number of people that are willing to utilize their new service. Amazon is looking to position themselves in the same way that Barnes & Noble has been as far as being able to utilize their huge reach to become a major player in the book space.

  • RIM Stock Prices Reach New Low
Posted on September 26, 2011 by Pure Mobile

RIM Stock Prices Reach New LowThe company Research In Motion has been in a real hurry to turn things around and get back the market share that they once had. However, it has become increasingly clear that they are struggling more than ever. They’re underwhelming quarters to earnings report last week really hurt the company and has driven down their stock to a low that they have never seen before at $21.52. It is the lowest that they have been in the last five years. Previous to this, the previous low that the company had was last August but even then, it was still eight cents higher than it is now. It has become increasingly clear that the overall investor confidence in the company is slipping, and the company has been unable to turn things around and regain the profits that they once had.

As a result, the company went on to release as many as seven new Blackberry devices, and despite the promising sales, it does not seem to bolster their stock price at this time. It will be interesting to see if they are able to regain the confidence of their shareholders and to get enough cash flow back into the company to make a real run at regaining market share that they once had. At one point, it looked as if Research In Motion in their Blackberry devices were going to take over the market, unlocked iPhone 4 seem to be able to secure a large number of different carriers and as a result through at a much faster rate.

RIM Stock Prices Reach New Low

Blackberries typically have the reputation of being a business minded phone and are a part of the working world, but that has really held back Research In Motion from being able to garner a larger audience. They have been able to put together an excellent array of choices, but that does not necessarily mean that their rebirth is going to be as successful as they had once hoped.

  • Dolby and Research in Motion have struck a deal together, abruptly ending what would have been a pretty nasty lawsuit between the two companies. The companies reached a licensing agreement, when Dolby Digital found out that Research In Motion was utilizing some of their technology without having first paid for its unlocked Blackberry Bold 9900, Torch 9810. This was a huge problem, as Dolby Digital maintained that they felt that they were owed backpay as a result.

Dolby and RIM Have New Licensing Deal, Ending Potential Lawsuit

Research In Motion and Dolby Digital ended up reaching a license agreement that kept both companies from having to go to court over the issue. The company was looking for them to recover the financial damages that they were forced to incur, when Research In Motion use their efficient digital audio compression technology.

The amount that they were able to save throughout the process in settling was probably a large amount of otherwise they would not have done it. They have continued to pursue the lawsuit since they first filed it, likely in an effort to get them to this level to wrap up the negotiations.

Research in Motion has been on a mission to get their market share up to where it was previously after dripping a significant amount over the course of the last few years. The have announced a number of huge upcoming releases and likely did not want their momentum to be slowed by a public lawsuit.

  • T-Mobile is going to be looking to offer new free signal boosters to their network in order to keep cell phone users such as unlocked Blackberry Bold 9780, HTC Wildfire, etc,, from playing. Over the course of the last few months since the company was sold to AT&T, and they are looking for ways to stop the bleeding in terms of their subscriber base. The move appears to be part of a new program that the company has released. They are looking to put an end to the service quality related cancellations that have been running rampant over the course of the last few months. They have become a significant problem within the company, and even though it looks as though they are going to be acquired pending legal look over of the process, it is not currently clear what the company is going to be able to do in order to stop this out flux of their users.

T-Mobile Looks to Offer Free Signal Boosters

Many other users are canceling their service to the poor coverage in their own home. This is something that was first leaked to the press when an internal e-mail was released that stated that this was one of the country’s biggest problems. The memo that was leaked also warned that they should not be offering signal boosters to customers when they are looking to close the sale. In order to get the signal booster the customers will need to open a new two-year service contract, which suggests that they are looking to keep these customers from canceling their service and are looking to get going on long term. It will certainly be interesting to see if they were going to be able to keep the customers from leaving as a result of that poor service in their own home T-Mobile was acquired by AT&T, but it looks as though this could not go through as the courts are looking into whether or not the acquisition was legal.
