Following a recent in-flight incident on Air Canada, two Research In Motion executives were not arrested by the authorities by were also  dismissed form Rim for egregiously poor behavior. According to The Record, the liquid courage had been liberally imbibed by the executive pair, George Campbell and Paul Alexander.  One wonders while in their inebriated state... if they observed regulations and kept their Blackberry cell phones and Playbook tablet off during takeoff and landing procedures.

RIM Execs Engage in Booze Over BBX Strategy Their unruly actions were so out of control they had to be restrained - handcuffed to the seats while pilots took an inconvenient detour to Vancouver to remove them from the flight. Not great press in the wake of RIM BBX flaws coming to light and their potential effects on their corporate and government consumer base. We remain thankful that these executives did not have any direct influence on designing blackberry accessories.

With costs of this unscheduled landing being considerable, these enfants terribles are required to pay combined total fines of $71,757 in restitution. This amount seems quite reasonable considering the 18 hour delay and related inconveniences  they caused for their fellow passengers en route to Beijing   No doubt that high-ranking RIM executives are now thinking that these funds would been better spent on developing more innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories for BlackBerry mobile devices.

RIM Execs Engage in Booze Over BBX Strategy

As one of the arresting officers, Corporal Sherrdean Turley remarked, the executive duo was “far too intoxicated and were just being unruly. The flight crew was asking them to smarten up, but they weren’t listening to anything they were being told.

In a statement released by RIM Monday, the two men are no longer employed by the technology company. “RIM does not condone behavior that conflicts with applicable laws and employees are expected to act, at all times, with integrity and respect.”

In addition to losing their positions at RIM, the mile-high offenders are banned from flying Air Canada for an unspecified probation period. Their long flight to China would have been better spent strategizing on improving Blackberry cell phones and PlayBook tablets fixes in light of the  following the recent jailbreak incidents.

Yahoo’s Hub gives traditional SMS some fierce competitionFor those customers unconcerned with RIMs stellar security record, BlackBerry Messenger is a customer retention application. iPhone specializes in WhatsApp. Yahoo now barges into the mobile device fray with a free Yahoo!Messenger app - for those die-hard OS or smart phone vendor enthusiasts, you’ll be pleased with the implications Hub has for your next device purchase. Discover the latest innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's most leading brands

Yahoo has fast been losing value as a search engine company against Google, so, the former has engaged in online content such as “Shine” and their Yahoo Messenger to continue driving traffic to its sites.  View the latest unlocked cell phones .

Last Friday Yahoo announced the launch of Hub. This is a new text messaging application from the former search engine king.  What sets this launch apart? A few things:

    1. It permits smart phone users to not only text free of charge, but to create group chats a la BBM without being tied to an OS or carrier.
    2. Further expanding the options for consumers inclined to pursue an unlocked phone option.

Yahoo’s Hub gives traditional SMS some fierce competition

The beauty of this application is that it is device agnostic and compatible / communicable with any device with a phone number. The other phone doesn’t even have to have Hub installed to communicate (those messages are received as good ole fashioned SMS). Imagine the cost savings that enable you to explore customizable phone accessories or perhaps a tablet!

A further recommendation to Hub is its security features: private conversation threads - a luxury in the current Android, Blackberry and Apple environment of tracked locations, texts, and keystrokes.  Luckily for Android users, Hub is available in beta as a download from Android market.  Of course, the text app options are vast, especially for those consumers not tied to an OS, carrier, or smart phone manufacturer and open to reviewing the mobile device solutions available.

  • BlackBerry Playbook Jail Broken
Posted on December 6, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Unlocked cell phone? Good. International usage. Saves the consumer money.  Jail broken OS? Bad. Major security concern that creates gaps for hackers to steal information as it is in one of the three states: At rest. In Motion. In use. Translation? Information shared or consumed on your smartphone is vulnerable anytime, anywhere.

BlackBerry Playbook Jail BrokenRIM has a great reputation through its BlackBerry products for ironclad operating systems that kept messages sent over their network secure and encrypted as well as for their overall device security. These glowing features are why BlackBerry cell phones and PlayBook tablets are so widely used throughout the worlds of commerce and government -including Barack Obama - the President of the United States.

For the sake of security, let’s hope that President Obama isn’t using a BlackBerry Playbook as it appears the latest and greatest RIM OS being used on the device has proven to be jail breakable. Hence, vulnerable to information “borrowing.”  Turn your mobile into Power Tools with the latest technological advanced accessories.

Anyone remotely following the mobile industry has likely heard the troubles of the bruised giant, RIM, the past year as it scrambles to keep pace with its competition. The result is an operating system that is more powerful and capable than its predecessors. It also has proven to have an Achilles heel where hackers have the holes to hack, break and manipulate what their predecessors have not been able to.  Evidently a first in RIM history and an unfortunate blight on their impressive record.

As the tablet market is still dominated by Apple and their user groups are well aware of the sport hackers make of breeching their iOS, this news may seem paltry to the traditional RIM user.  But going forward this same BBX OS is what RIM BlackBerry smartphones will be runs on!  Discover the latest accessories for all your Blackberry devices.

    BlackBerry Playbook Jail Broken

There are an exponentially increasing number of incidents of malicious code being written to ferret out information - relative to feed the insatiable appetite of the multi-billion dollar black market data stealing.  Consumers today are in dire need of innovative protection solutions and premium electronic  accessories, antivirus protection, back-up and storage considerations.

If RIM doesn’t address the serious flaw in the BBX OS, their greatest market differentiator and credibility will be compromised to their largest consumer groups: government and enterprises. In a wild Wild West age, information truly is power and tangibly destructive as Julian Assange and Wikileaks globally demonstrated earlier this year.

My guess is President Obama will forfeit a little performance for peace of mind and eschew BBX until a fix is found.

  • Samsung and Blackberry Overview
Posted on December 5, 2011 by Pure Mobile

    By Aldo Panessidi

With 2011 coming to a close, speculation on the upcoming technology of 2012 is beginning to run rampant.  So, to help keep you in “the know,” here are a few smartphones, technology upgrades, and the like.  Manufacturers will be releasing a plethora of new innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories to protect, personalize and enhance your mobile devices

    Samsung

    Samsung and Blackberry Overview

Samsung has had a great year with consistent performance with strong sales from its Galaxy cell phones coupled with its Galaxy Tablet and related mobile device accessories.  To continue the momentum of 2011, Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Note - touted to be a “new category of product” in early 2012.

At the moment no specific carrier has been chosen to feature this smartphone, but with the revolutionary “buzz” around the release, it will likely be a time limited exclusive agreement with one of the larger service providers.  Unlocked cell phone relieve dependency on service provider long term contracts... choose the service provider you want and negotiate a low cost service package that meets your lifestyle and needs.

How Global are smartphone consumers REALLY?

According to the mobile strategy firm, VisionMobile, there has been a marked increase in smartphone shipments in 2010-2011. In the same report, they also indicated that the use of global smartphones in comparison is rather lukewarm and tepid: 27%.  One reason for this may be the limited global smart phones offered by carriers, especially in corporate purchasing plans and contacts.  More and more consumers are personalizing their mobile devices with accessories that offer both superior protection and trend-setting fashion.

No doubt global smartphone shipments would jump to a more comparable rate if the major carriers offered greater choices, but the exclusivity of their phone offerings precludes the same array of choices available to consumers considering unlocked smartphones.

    Samsung and Blackberry Overview

    RIM – strategic play

Whether RIM has a fortune teller on staff or they were remarkably prepared to lose their greatest market differentiator (their secure OS).  In light of this fiasco, they may retain their cherished government and enterprise customers with a new platform.  It allows IT administrators to better manage the newest endpoints to the network: smartphones and tablets.  In this rapidly consumer need driven mobility industry the beauty of this platform is that non-RIM OS platforms such as Apple and Android will be better centrally managed.

Big Brother strikes again through Google’s Android OSIs it any surprise that our tweeting, emailing, texting, and everything in between is leaving a trail of evidence behind us?  After all, we live in a world where key logging technology can be purchased from almost anywhere.  PureMobile offers unlocked phone, tablets and along with a myriad category of accessories to protect your mobile devices.

Not so long ago Apple was found to be keeping tabs on its iPhone users’ whereabouts. Now the Android developer Trevor Eckart has come forward with this discovery: his HTC EVO 4G is tracking each keypress, message, and location - this begs for consumer education and choice as these privacy threats grow. Review unlocked phones to avoid potentially harmful limitations in choice.

This stealth software belongs to the company Carrier IQ. It records on millions of other droids - not just HTC users, but Nokia, Samsung and BlackBerry as well.

Big Brother strikes again through Google’s Android OS

Carrier IQ's position is that it doesn’t affect privacy concerns because; “Our technology is not real time. It's not constantly reporting back. It's gathering information up and is usually transmitted in small doses.

They also dispute Eckart’s claim that his key presses were monitored, but with the use of a packet sniffer he was able to track each packet traveling to and from his stock EVO 4G.  He was then able to show how each keypress on the numeric keyboard, his browsing data, and his SMS messages were tapped without his knowledge by Carrier IQ software.   Get the latest in top quality, innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories from the industry's leading brands

The truth may come out in the wash with a legal battle, but in the interim Android users may want to consider alternative mobile devices to keep Big Brother at bay.

For the longest time now, Blackberry Playbook users have been waiting for Android app compatibility, native email, PIM access and calendar applications to be officially released.  It seems that the waiting time is over with the planned February release of this long awaited Playbook OS 2 version which will include these apps on a new QNX operating system.  We believe these upgrades coupled with a $300 OFF price tag, will allow the tablet to enjoy more invigorating sales volumes.

Blackberry Playbook OS 2- Scheduled For A February Release

The Blackberry Playbook OS @ brings numerous changes to the platform, squarely aimed to make this device a gem within the developer community.  The Playbook OS 2 supports among other things,  Adobe Air 3 and Flash 11 are supported, Open GL ES 2.0 and Open AL along with RIM’s Native SDK –which brings support for C/C++ apps.  The Blackberry Playbook OS 2 RIM allows standards-based apps built using web code like HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and even WebGL with the introduction of WebWorks and a much-improved browser.  Users will no doubt want to further exploit and enhance the Blackberry Playbook OS 2 with accessories like, docks, memory cards, earpieces and headsets as well as speakers.

Yet, given the RIM's numerous stumbles over this past year, this handful of free apps is a step in the right direction to win back market favor.  Finally, the Blackberry Playbook — which has always been a capable, powerful tablet — is getting an OS that is more on par with its hardware.  It now time to protect your device with branded tablet accessories.

It's the most explosive development in the tablet market since the release of the original iPad and the latest apple tablet the iPad2. The launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire represents a major shot across the bow at Apple, according to a new ChangeWave survey which primarily targeted North American consumers.

Tablet Demand - Plan to buy next 90 daysAccording to ChangeWave demand for tablets this holiday season is three (3) times higher than for the same period last year.

It seems that today, shoppers have broadened their tablet interest from to include the Kindle Fire from Amazon... you can view more in this consumer demand survey

The more interesting stat, perhaps, is that more than a quarter of respondents in ChangeWave’s survey who confirmed an imminent Kindle Fire purchase said they would buy the Amazon tablet in place of an iPad.

“Tablet providers (Iconia, Xoom, Flyer, Galaxy Tab, PlayBook, etc) have failed to gain appreciable traction against iPad’s 67% market share, and iPad 2 should be a popular holiday purchase,” indicated officials at ChangeWave. “However, strong early Fire uptake seems likely, raising speculation Apple now faces a real tablet contender. Survey data says 26% of likely Fire buyers (i.e. of the 5%) say they will delay/put on hold iPad buying. Sustained Fire uptake and ‘buzz’ will depend on consumer/reviewer reactions to Fire’s user experience.”

Tablet Planned PurchasingMoreover, when asked if they intended to purchase a tablet in the next 90 days, 14% of the 3,043 North American consumers surveyed by ChangeWave said yes. Only 6% said they intended to purchase a tablet in a similar survey conducted in August, and just 4% intended to purchase a tablet in November last year. ChangeWave’s new survey also found that 65% of respondents intended to purchase Apple’s iPad 2, while 22% were eying the Kindle Fire. Only 4% of respondents intended to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and no other tablet vendor garnered more than 1% of interest among those polled.  We expect consumers that want protect and personalize their devices to  invest in most fashionable and trendy tablet accessories with the latest technology to enhance functionality

“The launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire is turning out be a real competitive threat to Apple, who until now has almost completely dominated the tablet space,” ChangeWave said. “But the most immediate impact of the Amazon device is on the rest of the competition, where the survey shows it wreaking a devastating blow to a range of second tier tablet manufacturers, including Motorola, RIM, Dell, HTC, H-P and Toshiba.”

Amazon’s tablet may end up helping Apple in the long run. “The ChangeWave survey shows the Amazon Kindle Fire is going to leapfrog the competition and become the number two product in the tablet market, as long as it can provide a quality user experience,” ChangeWave said.

  • RIM Introduces New BBX Platform
Posted on October 18, 2011 by Pure Mobile

There are few press conferences happening this week with the important ones being from Blackberry and Motorola. In typical fashion the major companies are aligning their conferences in time for the holiday season to build up the hype and speculation on what new and exciting features are going to be made available.

    RIM Introduces New BBX Platform

For last little while Blackberry has been under the gun in that they have long been seen as a phone that has been behind in the times. Most wondered when they will make significant improvements to their operating system. Well, the wait is finally over as Blackberry has just announced their new BBX platform.

The key feature of the operating system is that it is making use of HTML 5 and Blackberry is encouraging developers to use HTML 5 to bridge the gap other applications with the several Blackberry operating systems that are currently being used on their phones such as Unlocked Bold 9900, Torch 9860, etc. This includes Blackberry OS 6, Blackberry OS 7, as well as the native BBX platform set to be released shortly. Other features of the platform include support for integration into the Blackberry cloud service and their proprietary UI framework which will be available in the coming weeks.

RIM Introduces New BBX PlatformRIM hopes that the release of the BBX platform will be used to create what they term as super apps taking advantage of Blackberry BBM functionality that can make for a very unique and personal user experience.

If the BBX platform was released a year or so ago we would be excited about the features and possibilities that the platform provides. However, most of the functionality already exists on other operating systems on the market making the news not so great. We'll see how the launch of this platform will affect the overall perception of Blackberry as well as market share and support from developers they will receive.

PureMobile carries wide range of unlocked Blackberry phones and cell phone accessories such as Cases and Skins.
