  • Nokia E7 With 3G Support
Posted on November 17, 2010 by Pure Mobile

According to a leading unlocked cell phone mobile blog, the upcoming Nokia E7 will be featuring 3G radios with their device.  This comes as great news to the people who were planning on buying this device because with it being 3G makes it worth even more than it was before people found out about this news.  If you are unsure of the features of 3G phones, then we will fill you in on what it entitles.

First of all, all 3G networks have a lot faster transfer speeds than other phones such as 2G ones.  For example, if you were to download a five minute song on a 3G phone, then it would probably only take around 30 seconds tops most of the time; however, if you used an old, outdated 2G phone, then it will probably take you up to 15 minutes just to download a five minute song.  That is almost a 14 minute difference, so as you can tell, having 3G definitely has its advantages over the older phones.  Just the transfer speeds alone are worth it in my opinion.

3G phones are more or less like computers that you can carry in your pocket; mini lap-tops more or less.  You are able to receive streaming video from different websites such as Youtube, you can send and receive faxes, send and receive e-mails, join or create a video conference, and much more.  The possibilities are endless with 3G phones.

As you can see, having a 3G phone definitely has its advantages over the older phones.  With that said, you can also now realize how valuable the Nokia E7 is for having 3G capabilities.  If you are a fan of Nokia cell phone devices, then this is a must have to add to your collection.  There has been no release date on when these phones will be on the market yet, but we will keep you updated.

  • Limili App: A Must Have
Posted on November 16, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Have you ever been driving down the highway on the way to work, and “that” song starts playing that you have heard over and over?  It’s the same song that you have looked up the lyrics to on Google multiple times, but you have never figured out what the title or artist was?  You ask every friend of yours, they may or may not like the song, but they never know what it is either.  Wouldn’t it be great to finally stop those problems, so you can hear a song and go straight home to buy it on iTunes?  Problem solved.

If you download the Limili application in your unlocked iphone 4, then it will identify any song that you hear for you.  This is how it works.  If you are sitting in your car and you hear a song that you like, and then you can open the application, hold down the button, and sometimes within three seconds, Limili will recognize the song.  Not only will it tell you the artist and song title, but it will also give you options to listen to it on Youtube, or buy it on other programs such as iTunes.  This is a great feature because even if it tells you the song, you could still forget it by the time you got home.  That really would not solve your problem.  However, with this, you can either add it to your favorites, so you can look at it when you get home – or, you can go ahead and download it on iTunes.  This way you can go home and listen to it however many times you wish.  This sounds like an awesome application that everyone must have.  I don’t think you should put yourself under anymore stress trying to figure out what a certain song is; download this application and end all of those problems.

  • The CEO and founder of Forrester research, George Colony recent said in a blog post that he thought that the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, was a “one trick pony” and that he thought that he was overrated in Silicon Valley. Colony claimed that the statement was made because Zuckerberg has been unwilling to change Facebook’s looks and functionality throughout the its history. It is true that Zuckerberg has been reluctant to make huge, sweeping changes in his interface, but with good reason; every time Facebook changes its layout and functionality a large portion of the user base complains about the changes through their status updates.

Throughout his blog post, Colony continues to take shots at Zuckerberg, claiming that he has the “raw material to be a great CEO,” but went on to say that Zuckerberg must first demonstrate that he can turn Facebook into the revenue generating machine that many feel that it should be. Facebook did not post a profitable quarter until several years after it was created, after the site implemented its current advertising system.

Colony seems to think that Zuckerberg should be willing to go out on a limb with his 500 million person user base and explore different ways of monetizing the site. Of course, this can be tricky, as we saw with MySpace where ads and functionality issues seemingly ran many of the users off of the site. Colony might be jumping the gun a bit with this blog post. Other revered CEO’s, such as Steve Jobs, had over a decade to prove how worthy they were to their companies and went on to develop some of the most game-changing ideas in the technology space.

It is strange that Colony would choose to criticize Zuckerberg so publicly, and seemingly toot his own horn. What is the point that Colony was attempting to make, and does he expect it to be well received by the younger generation in the tech community?

  • DVPRemote iOS Application
Posted on November 9, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Looking for some more reliable applications to download on your cell phone?  Well look no further than the new DVPRemote iOS application.  This easily replaces your old Roku remote.  This new DVPRemote will enable your unlocked  iPhone 4 or IPod touch to act as your main control mechanism for any Roku set-top box you may have.  An application similar to this has been around the application store for quite some time actually, but this is a newly updated 2.0 version which is supposed to be a lot better.

There is a completely different user interface which is very user friendly, and it even goes above and beyond to make your night go by smoothly.  There is actually a complete integration with Netflix that supports automated Instant Que navigation, full keyboard support for any screen that requires text entry, direct navigation to user-organizable Channels, toolbars for added channel functionality within Netflix and support for the new “Instant Replay”, “Back” buttons, and “Info.”  Not only that, but it is also works with iOS four’s background operation protocol.  This is huge news for people with that.

This application is actually very cheap as well.  Right now you can find it in the applications store for only $2.99.  With its advantages over the old Roku Remote, there is really no reason not to make the switch.  You may think that you are better off just saving your money by keeping your old Roku remote, but if you read some of the information above, you would find out that this new remote has a lot better features that your old or current remote is not capable of doing.  For only $2.99, this is a can’t miss deal, and you should go ahead and ditch that old remote for a new one.  What is there for you to lose?

  • The Blackberry Torch 9800 is the newest update to a wide variety of Blackberry phones available today.  There was a lot of hype about this phone before it’s August 2010 release, but much of it lived up to the claims.  AT&T is the sole provider of all Blackberry phones, but unlocked Blackberry Torch 9800 phones allow you to use it with other carrier services.

The Blackberry Torch is meant to marry the two best features of other Blackberry phones – a touch screen and a keypad.  The Blackberry Touch was extremely popular, but some users missed the keyboard option.  Other users had the Blackberry Crush, but there is no denying that a touch screen phone is inherently cool.

The Blackberry Torch does have a touch screen.  It also features the same navigation buttons as other Blackberries, so users will have no problem adapting.  The keyboard is a slider that opens when you need it.  This means it is safely tucked away when not in use, and you won’t be accidentally hitting keys if the phone is in your pocket.

The phone features the same sturdy construction that made up earlier Blackberries.  In fact, the slider option has added a few millimeters thickness, which gives the Torch an even sturdier feel.  The slider is also sturdy construction, and has won over slider skeptics.

The Torch has many of the same features as other Blackberries and smart phones – GPS, web surfing, Bluetooth.   There is also a 5 megapixel camera, although some reviewers were disappointed that the camera does not also take video.

Comparisons of the Blackberry Torch to the iPhone 4 Unlocked handset have also been extremely positive.  The Blackberry holds up against the competition, so if you are torn between the two smart phones, you may have to make the decision simply on whether you prefer the keyboard or not.

As mentioned before, the Blackberry Torch is only available through AT&T.  The Torch can be unlocked, though, and used with any other carrier.  AT&T and Blackberry equip the phones with a SIM card, so switching to a new carrier requires a new SIM card.  These cards should come with a new “unlock” code, which you will be prompted to enter when you replace the SIM card.

If you don’t change the SIM card, you can request an unlock code from your current carrier, and provide them with the Torch’s IMEI number.  You can find this code Device menu, under “Device and Status Information.”

  • Vlingo, the maker of a popular Voice command application for a number of cell phone platforms, responded to the launch of Google’s Voice Actions application, this was done by offering Vlingo’s Android application free of cost. Vlingo stated in its blog that its Voice command application is better than the Google version in many respect and also offers similar functionality. In order to compete with the application by Google, Vlingo has now started to offer the Android version free of cost so that it is easier for the user to compare the features of the products.

Vlingo states that their product has advantages over the one from Google. Vlingo hints, Google has a constraint because it has to promote its services and other content while being a separate developer, Vlingo can take the best of Google and the other services and mix them up.

Vlingo’s Voice command application does provide some features that that cannot be found in Google’s Voice Actions. These features include Safe Reader, this application reads incoming email messages and texts. Vlingo is available on many platforms like Unlocked Blackberry phone and the iPhone and also on more than one version of Android. Though Google’s voice actions may be attractive for Android, the only Android version in which it is available is 2.2.

So… a few questions appear before us. Will Android users choose Vlingo over voice actions now that Vlingo is available free of cost? How will everybody take Vlingo’s move to offer such a huge discount and make its app free? It does speak a lot when a company actually tries to compete rather than bad mouth its opponent.

  • BlackBerry releases the Torch
Posted on August 22, 2010 by Pure Mobile

It’s official! Finally BlackBerry has answered all the prayers from its ‘worshippers’ and released the new Unlocked Torch 9800, the vertical slider and it will be going live on AT&T. it packs quite a punch, it must be said, for RIM and also the new BlackBerry 6 operating system. The Torch, however, has been hailed as one of the best offerings from RIM in quite some time and the news time that it is getting is nothing short of what it deserves.

The new device is very impressive, to put in short. The full QWERTY keypad was a cause for concern for many users, but after prolonged sessions of testing it, it has been found to work just fine. The slider display also does not cause any sort of hindrances to the QWERTY keypad in no way, and once you open the keyboard to use it, you will find that the device balances nicely in your hand as well. The BlackBerry 6 also fares quite well and although it is not much different from earlier renditions of the Operating System, the users of BlackBerry unlocked cell phone will more or less be satisfied with the total package that the company is offering them.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Touch is the Touch screen display. RIM’s previous touch screens do not have a very good reputation, but the Torch does it no harm and rather enhances it very much and puts it on the same category as the iPhone or such devices. The response of the display is very prompt and the latest pinch-to-zoom feature is very much a delight to use and is very much like those on the iPhone4 unlocked handset.

AT&T is offering the BlackBerry for $199 and here is the real test for the phone and everyone is eager to see how it actually fares in the market.

  • As the BlackBerry unlocked 9800 Torch and Motorola DROID 2 go head to head it seems that both AT&T as well as Verizon will be laughing their way to the bank. The DROID 2 is being distributed by Verizon and the time for pre-sale has passed with Verizon now stocking up the sets in their stores with people queuing to get their hands on one of these sets.

The D2 is offered by Verizon for a price of $199 that is after calculating a $100 rebate for mail-in orders or an online discount for an agreement for a two year agreement. A purchase in-store will help you avoid any waiting for the deliveries of the set but will instantaneously increase your up-front costing. Simply put $100 rebates are valid for purchases made in-store and purchases made online only. Purchases from any third party retailer will cost you $299.

For those looking to upgrade to the DROID 3 as soon as it releases, the 20 month default contract length will be a hindrance so as a recommendation go for the one-year contract which will allow you to upgrade before you apply for the next contract. Any one who owns the original Verizon Motorola Unlocked DROID will fill you in on the pains of an upgrade if you wish to do so in the contract period. Despite Verizon’s end-of-year upgradation plan, contractual issues prevent D1 owners who are on two-year agreements find an upgrade to D2 a difficult affair to say the least.

A one year plan on the D2 will cost you $269 after a %100 rebate which is a $70 hike on the two year plan but the deal is you still get to upgrade to the D# with ease. A monthly plan will push the price of your D2 to a pricey $559. A termination fee of $350 applies for early cancellation of contract and a minimum requirement of a data plan worth $29.99 per month is also set up in the terms and conditions. Complications galore, but the set may well be worth it.

  • The Android has arrived! Well technically it arrived a long time back when Google officially released it, but the sales report figures now prove that Google Android has indeed arrived. Brace yourselves people, Google Android sales have beaten figures for the Apple unlocked iPhone4 globally. Need a bigger shock still? Google Android sales have also beaten sales figures for the BlackBerry in the United States. The Android invasion is on! The numbers in all practicality are not very surprising, since several research firms confirm that Android sales are going very strong indeed. Android devices according to Gartner have had 10.6 million sets shipped out into the market this quarter, clearly edging out iOS to be placed third overall, which culminates to close to 17.2% of the market share. What inspires awe is the fact that this is in fact a growth of 850% for Android in a matter of one year.

Android’s incredible sale figures this quarter is dedicated to the fact that it managed availability across several mobile operators, that too on numerous mobile devices. It has been powering pretty high-profile, high end devices like the Samsung unlocked Galaxy S mobile devices and the HTC EVO 4G.

A report says that Apple sold around 9 million iPhones this quarter, which culminates to 14.2% share of the mobile market. Out of this the unlocked iPhone 4, itself had sold three million sets in a matter of 3 weeks. Apple, despite not having the biggest market share still posts a higher profit from sales because of the higher profit margin per device it holds out. Before we end up too excited with Google Android or with the Apple iPhone, we would do well to note that RIM and Nokia are still on top of the mobile mountain, when it comes to pure market share. Till date Symbian OS is still the most popular platform for smartphones in the world today commanding close to 41.2% share of the market, with BlackBerry posting a share of 18.2%.

  • Google has decided to give a treat for customers such that they can search more easily using their phones. This feature finally brings the very essential search History onto the Apple’s unlocked iPhone4 and other Android devices. Although one may ask about what are the benefits of search history, this one is really a necessity which was missing otherwise on these phones and now has been fulfilled. Without this feature, one would be nowhere while trying to conduct searches. To think we depend on it so much on our desktops but we cannot access it on our smartphone was in our opinion very big botheration.

When this application reaches the iPhone 4 and Android devices, one has to enable search history by going to the settings and confirming the save searches under the search history option. The history which will be saved is a combination of the various searches that have been conducted when one has been signed in, even when they are using the services on your computer or the machine at work or even from your phone when you are out and about. The searches are labeled according to the device that you use so that the user can shuffle through them at their own convenience. The searches from the phone are marked with a small phone icon where else the desktop or laptop searches are earmarked with small thumbnail pictures which will help you to identify them and use it for future reference.

We have done some research on the Unlocked Droid (X) from Motorola and the results that we found were pretty satisfactory. It’s nothing great but it can surely be useful when there is the need for it. With this application, you can for sure edit your searches if you have the need. This application shows how the total online experience is paramount.
