  • Verizon Set To Offer Blackberry Storm2
Posted on October 26, 2009 by Pure Mobile

The soon to be released Blackberry Storm2 is the highly anticipated improvement on the original. In a previous post we shared our thoughts about the phone and the new features to expect with this version. At the time we only had an estimate of when it was going to be released here in the US. Well, we just got word that the Blackberry Storm2 is set to be available to Verizon business customers as early as Wednesday (October 26th).

  • Blackberry Bold 9700
Posted on September 23, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So a first hand review of the Blackberry Bold 9700 has been posted by BoyGeniusReport.com and  it seems to be two thumbs up.  From what the review says this is going to be the best Blackberry phone to date.

It's smaller then the Tour 9630 but bigger then the Curve 8900.  The Bold 9700 also does away with the trackball in favor of the trackpad that is found on the Curve 8520.  The testers seemed to love it.

The screen is apparently a great screen.  Actually they said the best one yet of any Blackberry.  It's was clear and crisp and images seemed to float on the screen.

Best of all the battery seems to have the longest life of any 3G phone currently on the market.

I guess only time will tell what the phone is really like until it is finally released.  Expect to see it on PureMobile as soon as it is.

  • Robin Williams Take on Tech
Posted on August 19, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So last week Robin Williams was on Conan O'Brian.  Conan started asking him about what he thought about technology and Robin Williams ran with it.

He talked about online gaming, facebook, twitter and myspace.  He even makes a mention about Blackberry's which he referred to as crackberry's.

This is a must watch for anyone.  Caution though it is on late night TV.

  • Blackberry 9700 On T-Mobile
Posted on August 11, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So CrackBerry.com a Blackberry 9700 while at an airport.  The most interesting thing was that it was T-Mobile branded.  It looks like it's going to be a nice phone.  Many people think this was the Blackberry 9020 Onyx that was seen a few months.  The Blackberry 9700 looks similar and has the leather backing like the Onyx and Bold do.  The 9700 also has 3G and WiFi.

From the previous specs on the Blackberry 9020 Onyx it does seem like this might actually be the first fully featured Blackberry.  One where nothing is missing.  Usually RIM forgets some feature or lowers it in every Blackberry but the new Blackberry 9700 seems to finally be fully featured.

Like crackberry said.. If you haven't upgraded to the new Blackberry 8520 and your budget allows it then you might want to wait a bit and get teh new Blackberry 9700.

  • So it's been a long time coming but it looks like in September Max OS X users will finally get BlackBerry Desktop Manager.  All this comes from MobileCrunch.com

The nice thing is that Mac users will finally be able to sync their Blackberrys to their computer for various things.  They will be able to back up their contacts, do transfers when they buy a new phone, sync your iTunes play list, add / remove software.  Plus you will be able to update your Blackberry right from the computer

So this is great news.  Granted it's taken many years considering Blackberrys and Mac have both become very popular, but better late then never, right?

  • Blackberry Storm 2
Posted on July 14, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So word on the street is that RIM is releasing a Blackberry Storm 2.  There is still no release date for the phone but currently it will be an upgrade to the Storm.  Now the original Blackberry Storm did well.  It was popular but like most new phones it wasn't without it's faults.

The new Blackberry Storm 2 will finally be getting Wi-Fi which was a major complaint of the first Blackberry Storm and it will be using the new 5.0 blackberry operating system that is being anticipated by many as a significant upgrade to the current operating system

Lastly and probably most important.  According to BoyGeniusReport.com it looks like RIM is developing a GSM version this time so companies like AT&T will be able to carry it.

RIM has said that the new Storm will be out this year so for now all we can do is wait.

  • So according to BerryReview.com it looks like RIM is finally upgrading its support for Gmail.  It seems that there is a beta of an Enhanced Gmail Plug-In currently being tested internally at RIM.

This means better Gmail support.  If anyone has ever used, or tried to use Gmail on their Blackberry they will know that altought it works through BIS you can't really do much.  You can't archieve, star, you can't even report a email as spam.  Well all this will hopefully be fixed in the new plug-in.

So now it's just a matter of time, but it looks like Blackberry will finally be doing something about their Gmail support so that means all Curve, Pearl, Bold, etc... users can finally rejoice

  • Seinfeld Rips On Blackberry
Posted on June 2, 2009 by Pure Mobile

So we came across this interview that Jerry Seinfeld did on Late Night with Conan O'Brian.  Jerry just makes fun of Blackberry users.  You've got to watch the video below to see what we mean.  Also stick it out to the end because he doesn't like iPhone people either.

We all know Jerry isn't being serious but this is a must watch for anyone who uses or even doesn't use a Blackberry or iPhone

  • So thanks to both BoyGeniusReport.com and Crackberry.com it looks like we have another new Blackberry coming sometime this year.  We've already heard about a Storm 2 coming out sometime this year and the Curve 8520, but not it looks like we have the Blackberry Onyx coming this year too.

The Blackberry Onyx is also being called the Driftwood and it is said to be part of the 96xx series of phones.  This means that it is going to be a 3G phone and from the looks of the pictures it looks more like a Curve then a Bold.

From what is being said by BoyGeniusReport.com it looks like it will have some decent specs

    • AWS 1700MHz + 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA
    • 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera
    • GPS
    • Wi-Fi
    • QWERTY keyboard
    • Optical trackpad
    • 480×360 screen
    • Carbon fiber-esque back battery cover (the whole back is a carbon fiber pattern apparently)

The Onyx seems to have the same specs to the Curve 8900 and it's going to have 3G for T-Mobile in the US and it does seem like it will ship with the optical track ball that was introduced to everyone last week on teh Curve 8520.

The real question now is does RIM have too many phones on the market.  Recently with the Bold 9000, Curve 8900, Pearl 8220 Flip, Curve 8520, Curve 83xx, Pearl 81xx,  and now the Onyx 96xx we are selling a lot of phones on the market.  Only time will tell how any of them will do but at present the Bold and Curve 8900 are some of the nicest ones RIM has produced to date.

  • So RIM has been on a real hot streak recently.  They have been releasing a lot of phones recently, with the Bold, Storm and Curve 8900 no one can say they haven't been able to get their fix and now it looks like they are releasing another Blackberry phone.

This one is set to be a "low-end" phone.  The new phone, Blackberry Curve 8520, looks to be released in the next few months as it is in testing phase now.  The new Curve will be an upgrade to the old 8300 line but won't be as full featured as the higher end Curve 8900.

There was a full review done over at Crackberry with a testing unit.  They down a full review and include that the specs for the phone are:

    • Edge device
    • 320 by 240 display
    • 256 megabytes of internal memory (same as 8900)
    • 1150mAh battery
    • 2 megapixel camera, no flash

Alright so there aren't many specs known at this point, but the phone is still in testing so more feature might become available later one.  Some interesting things mentioned in the article though about the Curve 8520 are

    • No flash for the camera
    • No charging pins
    • No standard trackball

The above features all seem like they will be missing from the Blackberry Curve 8520.  Most notably the trackball has been replaced by an optical trackball.  Basically they got rid of the ball and made it a sensor.  According to the article the implementation of it on the Curve 8520 seems to be pretty smooth.

Also another new feature is dedicated media buttons to play and pause your music on the phone.

The phone's casing is also "rubberized" which should make it a little more resistant to being dropped.

So the big question now are when will it be released?  The fact that it is now being tested does show that it shouldn't be too much longer.  Hopefully sooner then later we will be able to see this lower end Blackberry cell phone hit the market to give people another option.
