Android fans on T-Mobile, UK, can get their beloved Unlocked HTC ( Desire ) at a lesser price. HTC has taken some serious steps to battle the iPhone 4, and one of the most significant steps it has taken is cutting the price. Customers can avail the HTC Desire at about $55 when they sign up for a contract. This contract includes 100 text messages, 100 minutes, and 3GB of data. Users can also get the Android-powered handset for about $76, when they avail a monthly contract, which will include 500 text messages, 600 minutes, and 3GB of data. The previous package comes for $30 per month, while the second package comes at $38 per month. This move was initiated by HTC to take on the iPhone 4, which has been recently released, and is available on Vodafone, for $332, and a monthly contract.

Whether this move will give the Desire an edge over Apple’s iPhone 4 is anyone’s guess. It will take a lot for Desire to gain an upper hand against the iPhone 4, considering its “new ness”. But then, the Desire is a fine handset, and it is essentially a Google Nexus One unlocked handset, with HTC’s Sense software.

HTC has truly done a wonderful job with the Desire. The handset comes equipped with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which makes switching between applications mighty easy. It has a 3.7 inch AMOLED screen, which is fully touch-enabled, and has Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a rocking 5 megapixel camera.

The iPhone 4 unlocked handset  is probably a little better. It has an A4 processor, a variety of connectivity options, almost all that you would expect from a smartphone, and it also has a 5 megapixel camera, and can shoot videos in high definition. Although the screen is smaller than that of the Desire, it has retina display that includes 326 pixels per inch.

All in all, hopefully, HTC’s efforts will pay off, and it will be able to give the Desire a higher market than the iPhone 4.

In a world where smartphones hold a special place in people’s hearts and reign supreme, one would think that dumb phones are a thing of the past. Well, think again! The world may be under the addiction of smartphones like Unlocked  iPhone 4 and the Droid X, but not everyone can afford to get a smartphone. T- Mobile does not normally team up with LG, but in this case has done so, and come out with three state-of-the-art dumb phones. For those who are not aware of the term “dumbphone”, a dumbphone is one which is very similar to a smartphone, but does not have quite all the features that are present in a smart phone. Coming back to LG and T-Mobile, these two mobile giants have come together, possibly for the first time, and launched three dumbphones, and are actually more advanced than you might give them credit for. The three phones are- Sentio, dLite, and GS170. Of these, the Sentio is the most notable.

The LG's  Unlocked (  Sentio )  comes as close to a smartphone as a dumbphone can get. The Sentio is a touch screen phone, and comes with a virtual QWERTY keyboard. It sports a 3 inch display, and supports the 3G networks provided by T-Mobile. It has a 3 megapixel camera, can shoot videos quite efficiently, and even enables users to record visual voicemails. This phone is GPS activated, and comes with a huge number of pre-loaded widgets, which a user can use to customize the home screen with. The Sentio has an application called Social Buzz, which manages activities like Facebook and Twitter more than efficiently. The phone is currently available in a soft, navy blue color, and is available in very few select retail stores only. It is available online on a two-year contract basis for $69.99, but the market-price of the Sentio has not been decided upon yet.

For those who cannot quite afford smartphones, dumbphones are just the thing for them. Dumbphones come closest to a smartphone in design, as well as features, and there are many users worldwide, who are satisfied with their dumbphones. Hopefully, the Sentio will also flourish in the market, and bring good luck to the collaboration between LG and T-Mobile.

Samsung  Corporation unveiled the new Unlocked  Galaxy ( X series ) of Android devices recently. Quite a party was held to celebrate the release of this series. The main attraction of the evening, however, was, the new Galaxy S devices, for each U.S. carrier.

The most significant feature of these phones is Samsung’s Super AMOLED display. The special characteristic of this display is that there is a high contrast of black and white, which looks spectacular, has bright colors, and the display seemed even better than the iPhone 4’s display. Guests had the chance to hold the Unlocked  iPhone4 and an AMOLED display set side by side to compare the two. Even though the resolution and crispness of the iPhone 4’s display is far superior to that of the AMOLED display, the AMOLED display looks much better from 2 feet away, and that is exactly the distance at which we hold our phones. So, the Galaxy S devices were better. But guests could not take the Galaxy S devices up to the roof and conduct a sunlight test. But there is evidence that the Galaxy S devices’ display is the best compared to other Android phones, when brought under sunlight.

The Samsung’s Unlocked  Galaxy S phones are fast and gorgeous. But there is one downside to them. Despite being such high-end phones, they still had that cheap plastic feel that is common to Samsung phones. This put their strength and rigidity under doubt. The Twilight Saga series of stories has gripped the world by storm, especially women, who are spellbound by it. In rather disturbing news for Apple’s Unlocked iPhone4, it has been discovered that iTunes have been hacked into. This has caused widespread chaos as it may lead to rather unfortunate circumstances. From June onwards, AT&T has hiked up its early termination fees (ETFs) to $325 in what might well be a move to ensure that iPhone users are kept locked in.

The ETF is the fee that a user is to pay when he/she terminates the service contract. The early termination fees are being raised by the company from $175 to $325, which commenced from the starting of June. Incidentally, this roughly coincided with the expected release date of Apple's unlocked iPhone 4G/HD. This increased amount will be applicable to fresh contracts only and on the other hand ETF on feature handsets will drop down to $150. Renewal of a contract for a new iPhone will however get you into the province of this new ETF.

Naturally this new policy change is rather a hassle but the underlying logic behind AT&T's decision is not that difficult to fathom. Apple's unlocked iPhone 4G/HD will in all probability be having an entry level price of $199 although AT&T has to shell out around $500 to $600 for a single set. Counting that in the reckoning, along with the number of people who are going to purchase the item, it totals up to quite a tidy sum in subsidies. They should certainly be able to get that money back over time due to the mobile data services of the users. Still, this does give enough of a prod for a rethink of strategies. Details were obtained about Apple’s "streaming iTunes" feature at the beginning of July. This move by Apple seems to be a neat way to gain entry into the future which will be heavily in favour of cloud-computing. Most signs point toward the fact that we might be in for quite a wait because the various music labels haven't agreed and their approval is required for this to go through.

Greg Sandroval, who deals with the digital entertainment and media portion of CNET, is of the opinion that the music labels have not acquiesced to this form of service until now, and naturally Apple Unlocked Iphone 4 will not be eager to trigger a confrontation with those that supply its online music store.

It should also be noted that Apple has not yet obtained the requisite licenses from the four major music recording companies, as has been told by insiders in the industry to CNET. They also confirmed that Apple was indeed discussing the matter with the music labels but the record executives have not yet been intimated of the entire details.

In the eyes of a few of the top music labels, Apple could allow iTunes users to be able to stream music from a home PC to other devices without the need for fresh negotiations. However, if Apple were to stream songs from its own servers to other computers and other gadgets then Apple must broker a fresh deal, as told by these sources to CNET.

As an industry, the music sector is still in regressive mode, yet to accept the open-sharing nature of the Internet. Mobile music might be essential in boosting the industry, as exhibited by Rhapsody's iPhone4 Unlocked headset app, rivals Google's Android's streaming and Microsoft with its Zune Passup. After its takeover, LogicHP considers Palm and webOS to be “A great source of mobile fun, its not all sunshine and rainbows”. The number of apps in the webOS store has leveled out at around 2,600 for quite a while. The rather stiff $50 submission fee was also a substantial deterrent to coders who might have been interested in developing apps for the PalmOS platform.

By following the present policy, Palm would have to pay over $100,000. This is not really that hefty a sum, considering its acquisition by HP. Moreover, in a market dominated by the likes of the iPhone 4 unlocked Handset  and  Android operating systems for mobile phones, this may seem like a sensible investment to boost the interest of developers and coders thus giving a shot in the arm to application development for the PalmOS platform. And the App Catalog could definitely use the extra apps that may be coming due to developers homing in on this "too-good-to-be-true" opportunity.

This is a rather unusual move to entice developers by Palm. Earlier they had waived the submission fee and reviewing process for open-source apps. The present move may also be a desperate attempt to increase sales of its smartphones - the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus.

There are several disadvantages to this as well. This literal opening of doors may result in spam, bug-prone apps, loss in robustness integrity of code due to an unrestricted submission policy and a lack of quality control.
