Apple

Moshi for iPad
  • It might not be a pretty smooth move but Windows have decided to use their own shortcomings to take a dig at their competitors Apple. With the release of the Windows Phone 7, the company decided to take a few pot shots at their primary market competitor Apple, for the problems they were facing with the unlocked iPhone 4 and its reception. In a recent event, the chief operating officer of Microsoft, Kevin Turner, remarked that the Apple iPhone can become their Vista and that Microsoft was happy about it. Furthermore, he also said that with the Windows Mobile 7, the customer would not have to hold it a certain way to use it.

These remarks are not very different from what is going on around the market but according to the market trends, the sales of the iPhone 3GS Unlocked Handset are not really down. The device has already sold over 1.7 million sets all over the world and there is no sign of the sales slowing down. Even as a lot of the techs review and such companies are chucking their recommendations for the iPhone 4 unlocked gadget, the iPhone is selling like hotcakes around the world. These comments though were made at a Microsoft event which focused largely on their new Windows 7 phone which we think is a hit in waiting for the software giant. Personally we feel that Microsoft should concentrate on what they are doing with their phone rather than attacking Apple.

The interface on this phone looks nice and goes a long way from the previous designs and the layout of the icons are very easy to use and does a lot for the users. Navigation is also quite user friendly. The only thing we can do for now is to just wait for it to release in the market.

  • PriceGrabber on Android
Posted on July 18, 2010 by Pure Mobile

After coming out onto the iPhone and iPad as the app, the PriceGrabber has finally decided to make the app available to the Android users. PriceGrabber has tied up with Google to bring with itself all the facilities that one can get on their web page. This is available as an app which can be accessed on the Android Market and can be downloaded directly onto your phone. This one can be really useful for the customers.

With this app, there are several nice features which you can get. You can actually scan the bar codes from the products and compare rates of the product from different retailers whose numbers are in the thousands. The layout of this app is pretty user friendly and searches are really fast. It makes the task of searching for the best deals really easy. With the PriceGrabber, you can compare the prices of the goods from several retailers which will help you get the cheapest prices. Furthermore you can also calculate the products bottom line price and check how much the product will cost inclusive of all the taxes like shipping. This can be incorporated by way of GPS or by just entering the zip code of your area where you want to buy the product from your Unlocked Cellphone. There is also another add on like the Gift Shaker where you can check on the products according to the price and category that you want. The PriceGrabber gives the facility of pulling down product reviews which are written by experts and suggestions for buys.

Finally once you have selected the products that you want, you may add them to a dedicated list of favorites which you can keep. Therefore the PriceGrabber is a kind of definitive must have for buyers.

  • ChangeWave recently conducted a study of nearly 4,000 US mobile users regarding their habits which has shown numerous trends in America. The biggest winner of the survey? Smartphones as nearly 16% of all those interviewed stated that they were soon going to pick up a smartphone within the next few days. Another very important point that has to be taken into consideration is the fact that Apple as well as HTC seem to be the leaders when it comes to the smartphone trend in America. According to the report, within just 3 months, both Apple as well as HTC managed to increase sales of their phone by around 50%.

Says a spokesperson of ChangeWave, “In one of the biggest conducted surveys in America, 4,028 consumers were asked for their opinions regarding the mobiles the currently use or which they would be likely to use in future and Apple and HTC, both, emerged as clear favorites. From March 2010 till June 2010, there was nearly a 50% increase in sales of both companies. While Apple and HTC both saw profits, Motorola and Rim noticed a decline in sales in the same period. This proves to be good news for the BlackBerry 6 ad the Unlocked Motorola Milestone Droid ( X ). however we cannot say the same for Palm Pre Unlocked handset  as according to our survey, they failed to register a single percentage point.”

Recently, Apple has been creating waves due to the wonderful unlocked iPhone 4 that was recently released. However, this phone has flopped as it has been discovered that if the phone is held in a certain angle, no network can be picked up. This has resulted in Apple having to recall some of the mobile phones that were issued. This has resulted in favor of the Droid as now it has less competition as compared to before. In spite of Apple having to recall some of its mobile phones, they have still been able to beat out other phones in the survey.

If you want to extend the viding space on the monitor of your MAC device, then you just have to simply place the iPad next to the screen and the set up is ready.

File transfer can be done between an iPad and iPhone touch as the app is compatible on both the devices. There are no wires involved and transfers can take place irrespective of the file formats. The files can be transferred and can be printed or viewed as we said on your Macintosh or Linux based computers. What is most astounding is that we do not have to install any kind of additional software when we want to use this feature on the computer.

The basic functionality of this app is primarily executed by way of Wi-Fi technology and other than that there is another version which is called the Pro which has elements of 3G. Other than this basic data transfer facility, we get a number of other functions which are really useful in this regard.  PDF reading is markedly improved in this one and you can read encrypted PDF files. Furthermore you can also edit to a certain extent like cut, copy and paste files from one folder to the other. Other than this, there is also the very important function of emailing the files which are stored on your device directly. There are also features like Zipping and unzipping the folders.

This app will soon be getting more updates too as it will be looking to get enhanced 3G connectivity.

  • Well although this has not been one of the best  unlocked phones ever released nor has it been much in demand from the consumers but carriers T-Mobile has decided to cut the price of the Garminphone to $129.99. This phone which runs on the Android OS is really not very unique in terms of features other than the corner to corner navigation system that it provides but then again most of the new Android phones have its own similar navigation mechanism. Probably just to give it a slight benefit of doubt, this handset does provide a slight edge over the services of the Google Navigator Beta.

Although the carrier T-Mobile are not saying this aloud, but it does seem like a bit of a last ditch attempt at making this phone sell as they have also declared a buy one get one free offer along with the myTouch 3G Slide and HD2 if one is seriously looking for a family plan option. However in terms of what it has to offer, then I am afraid that it is pretty meager. The Garminphone has got nothing different than any other Android device and does not stand a chance in comparison to the other high end devices like the Droid X and the iPhone 4 Unlocked handset. In fact, the main feature on which the Garminphone wants to sell is present in great numbers not only in other Android phones, as we have said, but also in a number of variants on the iPhone.

So if you have however been seriously looking at the Garminphone as an option that you might just try out, then we say that this is a good time and you should pick it up now with so many offers which are being provided but honestly the Garminphone is not a set that you would switch carriers for. Therefore, decide wisely.

  • Although initially it might have sounded like somewhat of a long shot, the judicial institutions in the country have taken up the accusations leveled against Apple’s Unlocked  Iphone 4 and AT&T rather seriously and have given the lawsuit a class action status. Judge James Ware of the U.S. District court for the Northern District of California was the one who gave this judgment which could mean more trouble for both the companies concerned. This all started when the consumers in the USA raised their doubts over a probable conspiracy involving AT&T and Apple when the latter decided to tie up exclusively with the carrier.

Initially this law suit was filed in the year 2007 with a view to protect the interests of the customers when a section of the buyers felt that Apple and AT&T were trying to work unfairly to exert some kind of a monopoly over the release of the iPhone. The consumers who had filed this law suit had objected to how they would have to buy the iPhone and use it with AT&T. More interestingly it was said that the companies were lying to the customers about the two year contract when in truth you would not be able to transfer to another carrier even after the two year contract was to expire.

Although the lawsuit might have wanted to mean well, but in all truth, it is very presumptuous to level such allegations on such companies, it is in fact at a level ridiculous. There are several such phones like the HTC Unlocked Droid ( Eris ) which you cannot use on any other carrier even if your contract with Verizon wireless expires. Although this story might just fade out, we do believe that we have not heard the last of the class action law suit. In our opinion there is still much left to be seen and heard.

  • Although the Unlocked  Samsung S Galaxy has released and we have seen it a number of times, the Vibrant has just been released on the T-Mobile. It has been released just a short time back and will be out on the Android platform. The design of this phone will be as the standard Samsung Galaxy S model. The Vibrant will have a small bump on the back and carry the Android four key lay out rather than the standard three key set up. The Vibrant is one of the most loaded phones in terms of features and the apps that it will be carrying.

This Android Device has been dubbed as the closest to phone with the features which are the closest to the performance of the iPhone 4 Unlocked gadget  in terms of the output features. The features on this phone which really makes it stand out, is the neat Hummingbird processor and the brilliant super AMOLED display which is the closest that one can get to the Retina Display that the iPhone 4 has. In fact, if initial responses are to be considered, this display is one of the most striking features of this phone. We were also very impressed with the sunlight testing that we did ourselves. The Hummingbird processor is well complimented by the Samsung TouchWiz UI which is a much more advanced form of the software that was provided on the Samsung Behold 2. The Samsung Vibrant is probably the best phones from the Android line in recent times.

Although the process speed is pretty fast and good on this phone, there is still something missing. The durable feel is still lacking on this phone as was the case with many of the other releases by Samsung. However, this is hardly a deterrent as the phones which were released were not the production models, one only hopes that Samsung cleans up the probable flaws in this otherwise great phone.

  • Hulu spends a lot of time in blocking workarounds, which make it nearly impossible for people to view Hulu on mobile devices or Motorola Milestone Unlocked Android. But if you were willing to pay $9.99 per month then viewing your most favorite shows would not be an issue anymore.

Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu has announced officially that Hulu Plus, a subscription, subject to invitation, will allow contents to be watched by fans worldwide outside Hulu.com. If you sign up for the monthly plan of 9.99$ then Hulu will stream episodes of an on-going session and the whole catalogue of shows that are popular like Arrested Development and X-Files (sci-fi legend).
Right now only select capable television of the Samsung-app, Samsung Blu-Ray Player, and iPad /iPhone owners can use Hulu app as their gadgets support it. However, Hulu Plus is expected to arrive soon on Android as many searches have revealed that the company is researching Android. Moreover Kilar’s statements support our speculation.

He said that it was just the initial step in their mission to bring us (people) TV at every possible location. They were already working hard on making Hulu Plus compatible on other platforms and devices, especially with the introduction and launch of the Playstation. Considering the increased potential flurry of Google TV, increase in the number of Android applications and tablets, the Android is one of the strong contenders to offer Hulu Plus.

Non-U.S. Readers need not ignore this notice completely. Even though Hulu now caters only to the U.S it’s trying to expand its service to other countries. There have been many different countries kept on the horizon for the latest developments. A number of financing and licensing deals need to be done in order to achieve this, but one can be absolutely sure that Hulu will not forget anyone.

  • Desire takes on the iPhone 4
Posted on July 14, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Android fans on T-Mobile, UK, can get their beloved Unlocked HTC ( Desire ) at a lesser price. HTC has taken some serious steps to battle the iPhone 4, and one of the most significant steps it has taken is cutting the price. Customers can avail the HTC Desire at about $55 when they sign up for a contract. This contract includes 100 text messages, 100 minutes, and 3GB of data. Users can also get the Android-powered handset for about $76, when they avail a monthly contract, which will include 500 text messages, 600 minutes, and 3GB of data. The previous package comes for $30 per month, while the second package comes at $38 per month. This move was initiated by HTC to take on the iPhone 4, which has been recently released, and is available on Vodafone, for $332, and a monthly contract.

Whether this move will give the Desire an edge over Apple’s iPhone 4 is anyone’s guess. It will take a lot for Desire to gain an upper hand against the iPhone 4, considering its “new ness”. But then, the Desire is a fine handset, and it is essentially a Google Nexus One unlocked handset, with HTC’s Sense software.

HTC has truly done a wonderful job with the Desire. The handset comes equipped with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which makes switching between applications mighty easy. It has a 3.7 inch AMOLED screen, which is fully touch-enabled, and has Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a rocking 5 megapixel camera.

The iPhone 4 unlocked handset  is probably a little better. It has an A4 processor, a variety of connectivity options, almost all that you would expect from a smartphone, and it also has a 5 megapixel camera, and can shoot videos in high definition. Although the screen is smaller than that of the Desire, it has retina display that includes 326 pixels per inch.

All in all, hopefully, HTC’s efforts will pay off, and it will be able to give the Desire a higher market than the iPhone 4.

  • LG Sentio Launched on T-Mobile
Posted on July 12, 2010 by Pure Mobile

In a world where smartphones hold a special place in people’s hearts and reign supreme, one would think that dumb phones are a thing of the past. Well, think again! The world may be under the addiction of smartphones like Unlocked  iPhone 4 and the Droid X, but not everyone can afford to get a smartphone. T- Mobile does not normally team up with LG, but in this case has done so, and come out with three state-of-the-art dumb phones. For those who are not aware of the term “dumbphone”, a dumbphone is one which is very similar to a smartphone, but does not have quite all the features that are present in a smart phone. Coming back to LG and T-Mobile, these two mobile giants have come together, possibly for the first time, and launched three dumbphones, and are actually more advanced than you might give them credit for. The three phones are- Sentio, dLite, and GS170. Of these, the Sentio is the most notable.

The LG's  Unlocked (  Sentio )  comes as close to a smartphone as a dumbphone can get. The Sentio is a touch screen phone, and comes with a virtual QWERTY keyboard. It sports a 3 inch display, and supports the 3G networks provided by T-Mobile. It has a 3 megapixel camera, can shoot videos quite efficiently, and even enables users to record visual voicemails. This phone is GPS activated, and comes with a huge number of pre-loaded widgets, which a user can use to customize the home screen with. The Sentio has an application called Social Buzz, which manages activities like Facebook and Twitter more than efficiently. The phone is currently available in a soft, navy blue color, and is available in very few select retail stores only. It is available online on a two-year contract basis for $69.99, but the market-price of the Sentio has not been decided upon yet.

For those who cannot quite afford smartphones, dumbphones are just the thing for them. Dumbphones come closest to a smartphone in design, as well as features, and there are many users worldwide, who are satisfied with their dumbphones. Hopefully, the Sentio will also flourish in the market, and bring good luck to the collaboration between LG and T-Mobile.
