Apple may have paved the way with the release of the iPad, but now Samsung is getting into the tablet device game with the release of their Unlocked Galaxy Tabs, which have garnered a lot of attention from tech blogs and other media today. The company confirmed today that their device has been able to sell more than 600,000 copies across the world.
Powered by Android, The Galaxy Tab is the first successful tablet device that utilizes the Android technology and has access to the Android app store. It is the most popular Android tablet in the world following this announcement, and the tablet is only expected to grow in popularity in the coming weeks and months.
Samsung is undoubtedly pleased with the sales figures of the device throughout the first month. Although they came no where close to matching the figures that Apple was able to post with the iPad, it shows that there is an international market for other companies to produce tablet computers, even if they are likely unable to compete with Apple in the US market. In Korea, the home market for the company, they were able to sell more than 30,000 devices during the first week of its availability in the country.
Apple is also launching their iPad device in Korea. So far, residents of the nation have been able to preorder the device for a week and Apple has already recorded more than 40,000 preorders, and it looks as though Apple will be able to outsell Samsung in their home market, a market that Samsung hoped that they could capture with an early release of their own tablet device. It will be interesting to see how quickly Samuang tries to spread the device to other markets and locations, and in which countries they are able to compete with Apple.
