Moshi for iPad
  • Although spyware is mostly reserved for systems that run on a Windows platform, SecTheory, a security firm suggests that perhaps the newly acquired Hewlett Packard webOS platform could also be forced to deal with spyware concerns in the very near future.

The security firm claims that they have already been able to find a number of flaws in the operating system that could potentially leave it open for spyware harassment and a plethora of different exploits that could hinder the experience of the end user. One exploit that the firm detailed involved the data field in the contacts app which can be used to run different types of code. This issue was actually already addressed with the release of webOS 2.0, but there are still quite a few errors that were detailed by SecTheory that have yet to be fixed. These exploits include a denial of service error, cross-site scripting issues that could leave webOS devices vulnerable to attack and a floating-point overflow issue.

Hewlett Packard will likely move quickly to fix all of the issues that were pointed out by the security firm SecTheory, especially since the company just recently acquired Palm OS and is looking to integrate the technology into a umber of their own unlocked cell phone next year. Sectheory speculated that webOS has been exposed as an underdeveloped platform which will make the platform more enticing to hackers and coders who are looking to infect your smart device with malware and spyware in an effort to capture information.

Although no operating system is completely secure, the flaws that were exposed in the framework of webOS devices should be worrisome to individuals that were looking to purchase a device that runs on the platform. It is clear that HP has a great deal of work to do before consumers should feel completely safe while using the platform.

  • For fans who are eagerly awaiting the iPad 2, a number of rumors about the features that will be included have made their way to the web over the course of the last few days. Although you shouldn’t believe everything you hear about a product as large as the iPad 2, you have to believe that some of the rumors that have made their way online have some sort of truth behind them, or at least some safe bets as far as what features will be included. A recent article in a Chinese newspaper has shed some light on the features that Apple fans can expect int he upcoming version of the iPad.

First of all, the article said that the iPad will include a Retina Display much like the one that was featured on the unlocked iPhone 4. This provides users with higher quality screen sand video and seems like a natural next step for Apple in the development of their iPad.

The article also stated that the iPad 2 will feature a front facing camera for FaceTime video chat support, which also seems like a logical step for Apple. Most surprisingly, the report stated that the iPad 2 would feature a USB port, which is something that no previous Apple product has had. All of the data that is transferred between Apple products and PC’s and other computer go through the charging cord which also features a one-sided USB connection. It doesn’t seem likely that Apple will break from their current mold, but it would certainly be interesting and to the advantage of the user for the iPad to have a USB port to make for easier transferring of data between computers and the tablet device. It is a feature that many fans would be excited to have, but doesn’t seem to be something that would be beneficial for Apple, given the popularity of their smart devices.

  • It is no secret that Facebook as a platform has been the most rapidly expanding internet presence over the course of the last few years, but the company announced today that they have reached the landmark 100 millionth Facebook app download. When the service first launched their apps shortly after Facebook became the most popular online social networking tool it was not clear if the apps would catch on; up until that point they had been mostly associated with mobile devices and many developers were not clear on how the apps would intertwine with the Facebook interface and were worried about clutter on news feeds.

All of the apps were silently offered through GetJar, a vendor that is carrier neutral and offered all of the Facebook apps for downloads. As more and more unlocked  cell phone users crave an increase in the number of apps available to them as well as the platforms that these apps are available for, it will be interesting to see if Facebook Apps continue to rise in popularity. After all, it was just a few months ago that Facebook announced that they had reached 50 million downloads of their apps. They have now more than doubled that number in a very short span of time.

GetJar is now reporting that they are bringing in more than 3 million downloads per day, which is in line with the Nokia app store download mark and is nearly one third of the number of downloads that are being recorded from the Apple App Store.

GetJar has received additional funding in recent months and secured deals with both Yahoo and AOL to allow them to expand the number of platforms and availability of their instantly downloadable mobile apps that have been gaining popularity in recent months.

  • FaceTime On The iPhone 4
Posted on November 18, 2010 by Pure Mobile

The iPhone 4 comes equipped with FaceTime, something that has evolved the way we think about talking over the phone. Since the beginning of sci-fi there was always a way to talk with somebody over great distances but still be able to see them, however it has take some time for that to become a portable reality. With the unlocked iPhone 4 however this is no longer sci-fi, thanks to the high quality VGA front facing camera you can video talk with whoever you want (as long as they have a iPhone 4). Simply touch a button and you can start talking with somebody face to face.

As you can imagine this makes the phone incredibly useful and flexible. Maybe you have to work during an important event, there is no reason why you have to miss it if somebody has an iPhone 4 who you know. Everything you thought about cell phones is changing thanks to the iPhone 4.

Both Back And Front Facing Cameras

The iPhone 4 is much sought after thanks to the front facing camera it has. This was a necessity if you wanted to voice chat with somebody, however the high definition camera found on the back comes as a nice added bonus. You can take pictures and record in HD, memorable moments and gorgeous views can be saved for ever in their vibrant colors. You can get the best seat at numerous events even if you weren't actually there. You can share in the celebration of your child's birthday even if you had to be out of town, or share in a bed time story with your youngest as you sit in a hotel room on a business trip, there is just so much you can do with these two great cameras.

Using FaceTime is incredibly easy, simply make a call like normal and then select the button that says.. you guessed it, 'FaceTime', you can then add anybody you want to the video conversation. On their end they are asked if they want to accept the invitation, when they choose yes there is a very short loading screen before the video talk starts. Although you can have video conversations with other phones, none of them do it in such a quick, simple and intuitive manner.

The iPhone 4 unlocked handset was already popular before it even hit the stores, however with FaceTime it became an even bigger hit. Since the first sci-fi that had a video conversation people have been waiting until the time they could do it themselves in a simple way, the iPhone 4 has realized that dream.

  • Swype Makes Texting Easier
Posted on November 17, 2010 by Pure Mobile

In today’s generation, texting is a must to fit in.  Everyone is doing it; if you are walking on your college campus, you will see students heads looking down tapping their buttons at a fast pace.  Most see this as a sad thing, but it is really the best way to keep in touch with your friends these days.  Plus, most people see it as being a lot more convenient than calling someone.  I’ll stop beating around the bush and get to the point.  The Swype keyboard for Android phone such as Unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, LG Eve,  makes texting even easier.

Here are some of the advantages of having the swipe keyboard.  The first advantage is that you can tell the phone what to type.  Yes, it really is that easy.  Instead of having to type out some long paragraph about what happened in your day, you can just talk to it and it will automatically type what you put.  This has been reported to not always be accurate, and you will have to speak really clearly.  For the most part, it is pretty accurate though. To do this, you will also need to have Google Voice Search installed onto your phone.  Another great feature about this phone is if you want to check for spelling errors, then you can just double tap on the screen, and it will find any errors that you made.  This certainly makes it easier than having to scroll all the way back to the beginning of your text to fix any errors.  Not only that, but you will not have to delete any of your letters and make the corrections.  It does it automatically.

As you can see, Swype has tons of advantages.  You can definitely see why it has gotten all of the hype, and you should consider getting it.  It only makes texting easier.

  • Orbitz Now on Android
Posted on November 17, 2010 by Pure Mobile

According to a leading unlocked cell phone mobile blog, you can now find Orbitz in your application store on iOS or Android.  They are the first online travel agency to release this type of application on any type of form which is huge news.  Many people have hoped for this to happen eventually and it finally did.  The possibilities are endless now.

If you are bored somewhere with access to the Internet, then you can look up flights for a certain trip that you are planning to take in the future.  Along with this, you can also book the flights while you are at it.  You can make sure that you get the cheapest flight and the soonest one out because Orbitz categorizes these.  Also, you can go ahead and get some type of rental car bought for whenever you get out of the airport.  This will take a huge load off of your back because normally, you would have to search all over the Internet to find some type of rental car for your trip.  Finally, you will also be able to book your hotel for the trip.  Like your flight and rental car, you will be able to browse hotels by location, price, and how good the hotel is.  By using Orbitz, you are pretty much guaranteed to have a great trip, while at the same time saving a ton of money – money that you would probably have blown if you did not use Orbitz.

Now of course you can also use Orbitz online, but if you do not have access to a computer, then it comes with great convenience to have this on your phone.  If you are stuck in a traffic jam on the way to the airport, then you will be able to receive updates on your flight.  This should put most people at comfort knowing that they will be able to receive news updates even on the road.

  • There are many reasons to purchase an unlocked iPhone 4, not the least of which is the newest feature: Retina Display. Hold up an iPhone 4 to any other iPhone and you will see a marked improvement in the quality of the screen. In fact, the pixels themselves on the iPhone 4 cannot be seen by the naked eye; that is how superior the Retina Display is. Hence, the sleek and crisp imagines on the iPhone 4 no matter what you are viewing.

Normally used in t.v. and computer monitors, this is the first time that such technology has been used in phones. It's pretty amazing that the developers of the iPhone 4 were able to cram 400% more pixels (which are now only 78 micrometers in length) into the screen without having to enlarge the screen itself. That means you are receiving a much sharper image due to the almost 330 pixels per inch on the iPhone 4. You will get crisp, realistic pictures because of the Retina Display.

Amazing Videos and Movies at Your Fingertips

Watching the videos and movies you have downloaded will be a whole new experience thanks to the Retina Display and the apps like Netflix. You will not lose any of the beauty of the images regardless of the angle because iPhone 4 has the in-plane switching ability and 8 bit color (as opposed to the normal 6 bit color technology). iPhone 4 is superior to its predecessors because the Retina Display contains a contrast ratio that is four times better.

Another advancement that Apple can boast about is the fact that the same material that is used in trains and helicopters is used for the iPhone 4 unlocked screen. This means that you will receive better scratch protection and a longer life from your screen than any other model phone you've ever owned. As an added protection, the screen is coated with a special material that doesn't attract oils and therefore finger smudges and keeps it cleaner than ever.

You are definitely getting a vastly improved viewing experience with the incredible Retina Display on the iPhone 4. Now, no matter what is on the screen, whether it's a movie, someone's blog or a digital photo, you will get a vivid and clear screen to view it upon as if it were a high end television or PC monitor. The Retina Display technology makes owning the iPhone 4 nearly irresistible. In plane switching (or IPS) technology and Retina Display in and of themselves make purchasing the iPhone 4 worth every penny.

  • Samsung Orion Spotted
Posted on November 16, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Even though chips are not the most popular thing to talk about at the cool kids lunch table, this article would definitely be worth reading.  Many people would think that this would just be some ordinary, average chip – but really, it’s not.  It is much more than that actually.  The Orion has a dual core 1 GHz ARM Cortex A9 CPU with a quad-core Mali 400 GPU on board.  This was seen at the ARM Technology Conference sometime this week when they were showing “Linaro” Linux middleware, along with some stock Android 2.2 technology.

All of the bugs were not worked out with the Samsung Orion, so they were not able to show what a HDTV would look like with it.  However, there was a demo given of Futuremark’s old Cyber Samurai benchmark which was running on a smaller screen.  This gave people a good idea of what this chip was capable of.  Many people were quite impressed as you might of guessed.

The news keeps getting better.  There are also a lot of rumors going around that this chip will be in other products later this year into next year – and years to come.  People are really expecting this chip to help out other products, so there is a lot of excitement at this point.  Rumors have it that this will most likely end up in some other type of flagship phone soon such as the next Unlocked Galaxy Tab.  There is no word when all of the kinks will be worked out on this chip where people can be shown what a HDTV would look like with it, but they have been working non-stop on it over the past few days to get it fixed.  Pretty soon, we will get to see all of the capabilities that this chip possesses; there’s a lot to look forward to.

  • The CEO and founder of Forrester research, George Colony recent said in a blog post that he thought that the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, was a “one trick pony” and that he thought that he was overrated in Silicon Valley. Colony claimed that the statement was made because Zuckerberg has been unwilling to change Facebook’s looks and functionality throughout the its history. It is true that Zuckerberg has been reluctant to make huge, sweeping changes in his interface, but with good reason; every time Facebook changes its layout and functionality a large portion of the user base complains about the changes through their status updates.

Throughout his blog post, Colony continues to take shots at Zuckerberg, claiming that he has the “raw material to be a great CEO,” but went on to say that Zuckerberg must first demonstrate that he can turn Facebook into the revenue generating machine that many feel that it should be. Facebook did not post a profitable quarter until several years after it was created, after the site implemented its current advertising system.

Colony seems to think that Zuckerberg should be willing to go out on a limb with his 500 million person user base and explore different ways of monetizing the site. Of course, this can be tricky, as we saw with MySpace where ads and functionality issues seemingly ran many of the users off of the site. Colony might be jumping the gun a bit with this blog post. Other revered CEO’s, such as Steve Jobs, had over a decade to prove how worthy they were to their companies and went on to develop some of the most game-changing ideas in the technology space.

It is strange that Colony would choose to criticize Zuckerberg so publicly, and seemingly toot his own horn. What is the point that Colony was attempting to make, and does he expect it to be well received by the younger generation in the tech community?

  • A number of different websites are reporting that Apple has made the move to purchase Wi-Gear, a small company that is based in the San Francisco area that specializes in creating Bluetooth headsets. At the time of the breaking news, no dollar amount had been placed on the acquisition. What does this say about the direction that Apple is taking? Some have speculated that the purchase of the company means that Apple will be looking at developing a number of Bluetooth headphones under the Apple brand name. Shortly after it was announced that Wi-Gear was purchased by Google, a number of sources within the company were quoted as saying that the deal has not happened as of yet, but there is a possibility that it could happen in the near future.

The previous brand name of the headphones that were developed by Wi-Gear was iMuffs. The company also specialized in creating Bluetooth adapters that allowed older versions of iPod’s and iPhones to utilize features that are associated with Bluetooth.

The former co-founder of Wi-Gear is currently working at Apple as a Bluetooth Engineer for the iOS system, and his presence in the company may have contributed to the purchase of Wi-Gear. It is not currently clear if Apple is looking to replace the wired headsets that typically come with any of their devices that are used for music, or if they will be developing a completely new Bluetooth product all together. What this does say though is that the company is looking to put more emphasis on the Bluetooth features of their products. It will be exciting to see what direction the company heads in regards to Bluetooth development and the role it plays in future iPhone and iPod devices.

It is clear that Apple is looking to expand the Bluetooth features on their unlocked iphone 4, and now, if the acquisition of Wi-Gear turns out to be true, the question becomes; what will they use their newly acquired company to develop?
