  • With rumors of the Playstation Phone everywhere, Sony announced today that they would be adding Playstation app to their resume. The app will only be available for Android and iOS devices. The app will give users a number of options. Unfortunately one of those options will not be to play Playstation games on their phone. The app works in a way that is similar to the XBox Live features that are available on LG C900 Unlocked Windows Phone 7.

The app will grant you access to all of the most up to date news on the Playstation platform and will also let you see what your friends are playing and whether or not they are online. Now you do not even have to get up and walk to the Playstation to see which of your friends are online. If you are feeling like you might want to play some online games, simply look up who is online on your phone and see if anything catches your eye.

The app will launch first in Europe, including in France, Germany, and Spain. Sony also said that they were looking to expand the features and countries that will carry the app in the near future. This is to be looked at as a testing period to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

Unlocked iphone 4 iOS devices will have to be running version four or above to use the App, and Android phones have to be using 1.6 or a higher version. They did not announce when this would be coming to the US but if it is successful in its initial releases, you can expect it to make its way here very soon.

Here’s to hoping the next announcement from the company is the Playstation Phone which has had several videos of it released but has received no official confirmation from Sony Ericsson.

  • The new  Unlocked Sony Ericsson U8a Vivaz Pro, a device for NextG is a phone that has not received a lot of attention from the mobile community, which is a bit surprising given the quality of the phone. The non-Pro version of the phone was a standalone touchscreen and the Pro gives users an upgrade to a QWERTY keyboard which should help in business situations. The QWERTY keyboard will allow users to more quickly communicate using the device and will speed up the social networking process.

The Unlocked Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro, much like the previous versions of the phone wills till allow users to broadcast HD video, which was a huge selling point when the device was originally released. Users will also be able to download apps through the PlayNow marketplace as well as the Symbian Developer Community, which has grown quite a bit since the first version of the device was released.

The shape of the device has also changed for the pro release, making it easier to comfortably hold. The shape of the phone is now specifically molded to the shape of the human hand so that it fits comfortably in the hand when you are speaking on the phone.

The Vivaz Pro has a 3.2 inch touch screen that is completely scratch resistant and also features a 16:9 nHD touchscreen display screen. Along with the keyboard, the phone also provides users with a 5.1 megapixel camera that comes complete with up to 4x zoom and autofocus to ensure that you capture the best pictures possible. At only 117 grams in weight, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is a light weight phone that is very phone and fits comfortably int he pocket of jeans and other casual-wear. With the U8a Vivaz Pro unlocked being Next G compatible, it is a phone that should stand the test of time and make for a solid investment for anyone who enjoyed the original version of the phone but are looking for a more professional option.

  • The unlocked Motorola Flipout has been a long-rumored phone that finally appears as if it will be coming to fruition in the United States. The first thing that you will notice about the phone is its odd shape. It is shaped like a square, and is quite small. It only has a 2.8 inch touchscreen display with a 320x240 resolution. It also features a 600 MHz CPU, which is a bit underpowered when you are running applications, and a 3 megapixel camera that also does not meet current standards for smart devices.

The good news is that the phone does have a few upsides. The keyboard is easy to type on and is spacious for the size of the device. Of course, because the device itself is so small it might get a little bit uncomfortable if you type on it for long periods of time, but it really couldn’t be any better given the space that it has to work with. The phone is very unique, and has a rotating design that brings the keyboard out from underneath. It is also very affordable, and runs Android 2.1 well, although you might experience some problems if you have numerous apps running at the same time.

Calling on the device is fairly uncomfortable. Its small design and square shape take you out of your element when holding it up to your ear, and I have noticed that a few of my favorite apps do not run on the device, likely because of the size of the screen. It’s lack of power in its processor and camera are also concerning, but overall, for the price at least, the Motorola Flipout unlocked gadegt is a neat little device that should hold you over until that next big release comes out. You will get a lot of questions about it, that’s for sure.

  • HTC HD7 Best Offering From HTC Yet
Posted on December 15, 2010 by Pure Mobile

The HTC HD7 has garnered a lot of attention from the mobile community, and for good reason; it might just be the best device that HTC has offered the public yet. Known for its huge display and excellent touchscreen technology, the Unlocked HTC HD7 smoothly runs the Windows Phone 7 operating system with ease and rarely shows any signs of being bogged down. It is easily one of the most highly anticipated phones on the market.

Its 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 578 MB of RAM ensure that you will never have problems with the speed of the device. Although Windows Phone 7 does call for a lot in terms of hardware and speed in order to run it, the HD7 seems to handle the task perfectly and is one of the best devices to come loaded with the operating system to date.

Along with its huge screen, the phone also comes with a kickstand on the back for your viewing pleasure. It is clear that they were attempting to take hold of the media-loving market, and they have released the perfect phone to do so. The 4.2 inch display is large enough for you to comfortably watch movies and video on.

HTC HD7 unlocked handset comes complete with 16 GB of hard drive space, which should be more than enough but unfortunately is not expandable at this time. Releases outside of the US with only receive 8 GB of storage that is also non-expandable.

One of  htc  largest complaints about the phone has been that the panel that was used can make it awkward to see the screen from some angles in certain lighting environments. While this is a small complaint, it certainly is a warranted one for a phone that comes complete with a kickstand and has been marketed as the perfect phone for media viewing.

  • The HTC Evo Shift 4G is a device that has been highly anticipated by fans of the manufacturer. The device will be released on several different carriers under a variety of names including the HTC Knight and HTC Speedy, and with the release of a number of  cell phone accessories shots last week, it appears as though we can start to brace ourselves for the release of the device.

The images that were released last week show a number of different features of the phone. First of all, it will have a four-line QWERTY keypad for speedier texting. The second image that was released also showed the phone in a protective case. The case does appear to add a lot to the size of the phone but the fact that the phone will feature a QWERTY keyboard has already ensured that it will be more hefty than the previous EVO 4G.

Following the release of the photos a rumored release date for the phone also made its way online; January 9th. Early estimates for the release of the phone stated that it would be released on January 6th, and the switch to a 9th release would match up with the previous Sunday launches that HTC has unveiled.

The addition of the slide out QWERTY keyboard is something that will make the device much more viable for business, or simply for those of us that prefer the keypad over a touch screen. This version of the phone will have a smaller display, at 3.7 inches, than the HTC Evo 4G that was released by Sprint. The HTC Evo Shift 4G will reportedly come standard with Android 2.2, but could potentially even see 2.3 following the announcement of 2.3 Gingerbread. All of the details regarding the unlocked cell phone should be seen as speculative at this point, but it is clear that we are inching ever-closer to the release of this highly anticipated phone.

  • BlackBerry Breaks into News Feeds
Posted on December 14, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Have you been waiting for a usable RSS reading application to come to the BlackBerry  unlocked handset? Many have, and RIM announced today that they have started the process of beta testing a new app that is called BlackBerry News Feeds, which will work in a way similar to that off other RSS feed readers. The company announced that they focused a creating a clean feed reader that would be easy for all of their users to use. As of right now, the biggest complaint regarding the new application is that there is no support with Google Reader, which is not something that they were expected to include anyway.

Adding new feeds to your feed reader is very simple, and also allows you to look through unread items, mark currently unread items as read, and share them with other friends that are also using the BlackBerry News Feed app.

The app went live today on the BlackBerry App World homepage and will also be available through their Beta Zone. Most of the major bugs seem to be already worked through, and the app runs fairly seamlessly already. RIM did not announce any plans to expand upon the features offered and instead seems to be focusing on offering a clear and concise reader that will be easy for their large number of users to operate.

This is an application that has been requested by many of their users for quite some time. The app will also include features that allow you to watch your various social feeds as well as website feeds and instant messenger feeds. Hopefully at some point in the near future they include some sort of integration with Google Reader, which has become the most popular RSS feed reader in recent years. The inclusion of that integration would make use of the BlackBerry News Feeds app much more viable for many of their users.

  • As if the unlocked Samsung Galaxy Tab had not already received enough attention for being the first legit iPad competitor, the company announced today that it would be launching a “Luxury Edition” of the device after a good first month of sales. Rogers Vice President Josh Boynton recently was quoted as saying that the tabs were “selling out as fast as they could get them in their stores,” and it has been tough for consumers to find the device for the holiday season. The Luxury Edition of the Samsung Galaxy will not be released in time for the holiday season, but it will give those that are looking for the tablet computer another version to consider.

There will be no changes made to the Luxury Edition in terms of specs, which really will not make it all that hot of a commodity given the price hike. It will have the same standard Android 2.2 software running on it, same size display and 1 GHz processor, but will come with a nice leather case as well as a Bluetooth headset specially designed for use with the Galaxy Tab.

The one big change will be in price. It will reportedly cost as much as $1,000, which seems to be well out of the budget of most consumers who are looking for a Galaxy tab unlocked from Samsung. It is interesting that the price hike would be as steep as it is  when the only additions to the device will be a case and Bluetooth headset. It will be interesting to see how consumers respond. Most of them should realize that they can purchase their own case and headset for a much lower price than is being offered here by Samsung. Either way, it means that Samsung will be ramping up their production of the device, which should make it more accessible for those that have had a hard time finding it so far.

  • Skype Prepares for New Cloud Features
Posted on December 8, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Skype is getting ready for some cloud based features that should further expand their calling platform. You can imagine the type of features that they would be able to implement through the usage of cloud computing. The move would suggest that Skype is looking to expand further than their current user base and start to offer solutions for enterprises and corporations. Google Voice was recently made available to smart phone users through an app that is available for unlocked iphone 4 iOS, and some have suggested that perhaps Google will look to release an enterprise-level solution some time in the future as well, and Skype is apparently taking heed of these warnings.

Some have suggested that perhaps Skype is gearing up to team up with Facebook to expand their offerings and allow Facebook users to call one another from their profile pages, but that is only speculative at this point. Other experts have suggested that Skype could be looking to team up with Microsoft to utilize their cloud system that is in place.

Either way, the announcement of the integration of cloud features is something that shows that Skype is preparing to extend their service in some way. The move to cloud computing will give them a lot more to work with and will give them the opportunity to expand upon their currently offered features.

Skype has already been able to integrate their service with other platforms, but with other alternatives popping up in recent months, both in the form of personal computer applications and smart phone apps, Skype appears poised to build upon their current system and expand it into something that would make the barrier of entry much harder for startup businesses that could potentially threaten the success of Skype. Look for Skype to elaborate on their plans over the course of the next few months as they move most of their system tot he cloud.

  • The Unlocked BlackBerry Phone PlayBook is a device that has been highly anticipated by tech enthusiasts across the country since it was first announced. Today, at the TabLife conference it was announced that they will be offering the new tablet that is manufactured by Research In Motion, the BlackBerry Playbook. The announcement came from David Neale who is the Vice President of their Special Projects committee. During the conference they took some time to show off the features of the PlayBook and give those in attendance a good idea of what the tablet is capable of and how it will instantly become a direct competitor of the iPad.

A video of the demonstration is supposed to make its way online soon. The PlayBook is being marketed as a tablet device for professionals on the go who need the business flexibility that is not offered by the iPad and other competing devices. It will have a 7 inch LCD display, which is slightly smaller than some of the competing tablets that will be making their way to the market in the coming months.

The PlayBook processor will consist of a 1 GHz dual Core Multiprocessor along with 1 GB of ram installed. The device will reportedly cost less than $500, which would make it noticeably cheaper than some of the alternative devices that have been announced over the course of the last few months.

The PlayBook is a device that many experts think will be the first one to truly rival the iPad, iphone 4 unlocked and gather its own following. It is rumored to feature a number of additions that have been requested by iPad enthusiasts since the device was released including a USB port to allow for quicker transfers. Many experts have predicted that they believe that the phone will be able to live up to the hype based on the information that has been made available both by Research in Motion and by BlackBerry.

  • Virgin Releases Cheaper Unlimited Plan
Posted on December 8, 2010 by Pure Mobile

Just the other day Koodo announced that they would be releasing their $50 unlimited plan that covers usage anywhere within the nation. Because of fierce competition within the marketplace for the holiday season, companies have been slashing prices and changing plans to benefit their consumers. In order to keep up with the trend, Virgin announced today that they would be releasing their own $50 Unlimited “no zone” plan that is eerily similar to the plan that was announced by Koodo. You shouldn’t be surprised to see other companies follow suit in the coming days and offer a similar plan.

The new Solo Mobile plan that was announced will include the ability to make unlimited local and international texts as well as picture messages, and will also come with call waiting and conference calling. the competing offer by Virgin Mobile will also offering unlimited local calling, and unlimited local and international texting but the announcement made no mention of pictures messages. There will be no zone restrictions in the new plan, but you will still be charged quite a bit extra under their current roaming plane.

So far, their plan will not be compatible with unlocked iPhone 4, Blackberry’s or Android devices, which is something that they will likely have to add. The deal is obviously aimed at the lower end of the tech savvy crowd or the budget conscious consumer who only really needs unlimited texting to use their phone to its potential. With so many different mobile carriers slashing prices, it will be interesting to see if any other providers follow suit in the coming weeks and offer plans similar to those offered by Solo Mobile and Virgin Mobile.
