  • New MacBook Air Could Debut In JuneThe MacBook Air is certain to be on of the most popular additions to their line of MacBooks by Apple, and the newest version of the device could be released as early as next month. So, if you are planning on picking up the new MacBook Air you might want to save a few hundred dollars for now.

The new Macbook, which features an 11.6 inch model as well as a 13.3 inch model will be some of the lightest laptops in the industry. As of right now, it looks as though the device will be launched at some point in June or July, according to the production road map at this point. The device will be assembled and put together by Quanta Computer, along with a number of other components that should make it one of the most interesting options available to MacBook fans in quite some time.

New MacBook Air Could Debut In June

The current line of MacBook Air devices were first revealed in October of 2010, which is a little more than half a year ago. The MacBook Air has been a highly anticipated device since it was first announced and the first wave of them was received very well by consumers. The next line of MacBook Air’s will probably receive a similar reception because of the upgrades that have been added to the device.

While Apple might be the leading company in the mobile space with their unlocked iphone 4 at this time that does not mean that they have completely forsaken desktops and laptops. The MacBook Air has performed very well in the market and this update should bring some attention back to the device. Apple themselves have yet to confirm any of the information that has been released, other than that the new version is indeed coming, and has not yet announced when they are planning on releasing the devices to the public.

iphone 4SIt looks like those rumors that have said that the next version of the unlocked iPhone 4 will be called the iPhone 5 are wrong, and the phone may actually be called the iPhone 4S. There are many different rumors that have been floating around the net about the name of the next iPhone, so it can be a little hard to tell what to believe that this point. The latest info comes from Jefferies and Co. analyst Peter Misek. He stated that the name will be “4S” in a recent site posting. First, the company released their 3G. Then, they released their 3GS. This was surprising at the time, but the phone offered significant upgrades over the previous version of the device.

    iphone 4S

They also went on to say that the phone would be undergoing a number of very small cosmetic changes, and would also have better cameras on both sides of the phone. Also included in the upgrade would be an A5 dual core processor, along with HSPA+ support. This would mark a number of minor upgrades, similar to the differences that we saw between the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Although Apple has not commented on this rumor, you can bet that they will let it flourish as they usually do with rumors. Apple obviously enjoys the press that they receive, and only shoots down rumors that get out of control in terms of popularity, and they do not want people to start taking untrue rumors as fact.

    iphone 4S

Hopefully the release of this iPhone version will go a little more smoothly than the release of the previous, which was hampered by various connection problems in the early days of the device. It will be interesting to hear how Apple reacts, if they ever do. Not much is available about the next version of the iPhone 4 unlocked, but some probably will be here soon.

  • Twitter Launches New Web App
Posted on May 16, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Twitter Launches New Web AppTwitter has launched their new web app that features a redesigned menu that makes it easier for users to go between their Twitter feed and individual Twitter accounts. The mobile version of their website has already started rolling out. Not all users will see the new version of the site, but you can bet that people will start to see it across the board here soon. Twitter is known for rolling out huge changes very slowly to look for issues before throwing it in front of every user.

The new design definitely shows an improvement over the previous design. The mobile site design of the web app previous to this was quite cartoony and definitely did not match the changes that Twitter has made on their main website.

The native apps are still going to be better for the most part than using their mobile site, but this new design is going to be far less clunky and will be easier to navigate for a large bulk of their users. Web apps currently do not have the same access to the API catologue that apps and other platforms currently have access to. Twitter has stated that most users will see the roll out of the new site over the course of the next few weeks, with larger roll outs coming with each passing day. So far, it is being rolled out to users with Android devices, as well as a select number of users with unlocked iPhone 4, iPod Touch’s and various other devices in the coming days.

    Twitter Launches New Web App

So far the new web app has been received with critical acclaim from users and media sources alike. It is a greatly improved design that is not going to cause the issues that users have complained about for a very long time. It is good to see that twitter has finally addressed this issue.

  • Nokia N9 Received by FCC
Posted on May 13, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Unlocked Nokia N9 was a device that most thought was never going to be released, but it looks as though there might still be a chance for the device that most thought was scrapped at the time. The FCC filing for the device made its way online today. The device was found in the government database, in which it was claimed that there were six cell frequencies along with Bluetooth and a 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n WiFi.

    Unlocked Nokia N9

This shows that the device would be able to debut on a number of different carriers, so narrowing that down is going to be tough until more details are released. The device will also feature a QWERTY sliding keyboard that suggests based on the layout that the device will be available in the US or Canada.

Some have suggested based on the specs that the device might be a great device to run on the Windows Phone 7 platform, although no information regarding that can be released.  The device is a promising one, but not a lot has been released about it, until this FCC file made its way online.

A number of different phones have become known to the public in this way, and you can bet that it will be not be the last time either. Although nothing is concrete at this point, the fact that the paperwork has been filed to the FCC shows that there is a fairly great chance that the device could see the light of day some time in the near future.

The unlocked  Nokia N9 was a phone that a lot of people were excited about when the first details were released, but it quickly died down when it looked like the phone was never going to see the light of day. Now that things have changed, perhaps there will be a buzz for the device again.

  • Facebook Runs Smear campaign Against GoogleGoogle always says that you should do no evil, but that hasn’t stopped Facebook from engaging in some relatively shady business tactics, according to some sources over the course of the last few days. Facebook reportedly launched a smear campaign against Google in an effort to influence members of the media to write about data that Google was collecting and using from users. Facebook has all but confirmed the rumors through swift denials of the reports that have been out there.

Reportedly, Facebook hired the PR firm Burson-Marsteller to release information to journalists about the fact that Google has been retaining personal information about users and using it ways that they have not made clear.

There is only one thing that this could possibly mean - Google has something here that Facebook feels is a threat to them. Just when it appeared that Facebook was going to be able to take over the whole of the Internet through integrating their services into websites around the web, you can bet that Google is not going to be going down without a fight. Facebook has 500 million users, but you can not make it to that level without playing dirty occasionally and sending the competition some jabs to the stomach.

Facebook Runs Smear campaign Against Google

Their plan unravelled when a blogger that they sent the emails to decided to publish the emails online. This is something that they definitely should have seen coming and definitely was a miscalculation on their part.

This is not the first time that both companies have faced off and although they both deny their never ending feud in public, their actions have made their attention more than clear in most cases. This is one of the most direct attacks that either company has taken on the other, so you can bet that they will be retaliating at some point and time for this direct attack against Google.

  • Although the days when you might pack up your wallet and head to the CD store to purchase new music are gone, soon too the days of downloading music could be a thing of the past as well. In a time where seemingly everything is moving to the cloud, you have to bet that music will be one of the first industries to make the jump. Music can be easily stored and streamed through the cloud, and everyone wants access to their songs here and now, unwilling to wait for their songs to download or drive to the store to get a hold of them.

It looks as though a number of streaming music services are going to launch here fairly soon that should make for a fairly competitive industry. As things stand right now, Pandora is the undisputed leader in this market at a reasonable yearly price and a large selection of songs and playlists for their users to choose from. Other service including Zune Pass, Amazon Cloud Player and Napster have also gone with unlimited streaming plans for low monthly fees. It looks as though the future of this industry will be determined by the company that is able to capture the most mobile platforms.

The ability to stream music to your cell phone also means that you will be able to listen to virtually anything in your car as you are driving thanks to the various hook ups that these devices have. The price points of these various streaming services are all fairly in line with one another, with the most expensive being Zune Pass, which currently costs $15 per month. With many users moving toward streaming their music through the cloud, the streaming solution that positions themselves in a position to make it easiest on the end user stands to gain the most in the long run.

  • You may have recently heard that San Francisco was looking into the amount of radiation that is put out by cell phones. Behind a very high powered CTIA lobbying effort, the city was looking to enforce laws that rquire cell phone retailing companies to label the radiation SAR levels that were found by the FCC for each of the devices. These plans have been put on hold for the time being, but the city has said that they are still looking into how they can put together a watered down version of the bill to do the same thing.

What the city didn’t state was that the SAR levels that were measured by the FCC are not actually a good way to measure the amount of radiation for each cell phone because the number is found using a variety of tests. These tests do not include the amount of radiation that the end user would be exposed to through using the devices. This means that you could look to purchase a low SAR rated phone, but that does not necessarily mean that the end user will experience less radiation absorption than they would from phones with higher SAR levels.

The changes to the law have not been announced at this time, but you can bet that it will ore than likely require retailers to put the information somewhere in the store, instead of having to label each of the phones - which would require a great deal more time for each of the individual retailers. This is a good move in the eyes of most, because the SAR readings are not the best way to determine whether or not the end user is being exposed to more or less radiation in the end. This is another good example of the government clashing with big business and not truly understanding what they are actually asking of these companies.

  • US Cellular has plans to launch a brand new 4G LTE network for unlocked cell phone users by the time the holiday season rolls around this year and will likely offer a number of new devices for their brand new network just in time for Christmas. With other companies moving quickly to roll out more powerful solutions, it appears that US Cellular does not to loose ground and will be rolling out more highly powered networks of their own to draw in more users.

Their plans were outlined and announced today. The first regions that receive the new network will be around sometime during the holiday season, with other plans stating that they would like to extend their new network across the nation. At first, only a few select cities will be receiving the upgrade. These cities could include Milwaukee, Madison and Des Moines, according to the announcement that was made today. Their initial roll out is said to cover around 25% of the US, with future updates to the network expanding their reach.

In order to use the new LTE network, you will of course need to own a device that is compatible with the LTE network. As of right now, the company is not currently offering compatible phones, but you can bet that they will find a way to release some before the network is even close to being launched, although there have been no announcements about that thus far.

US Cellular is aggressively expanding their capabilities after the competition has also done so in recent months. Look for them to quickly roll out new areas after their initial run is tested and they have a better idea of what to expect. The roll out is expected in mid to late fourth quarter of 2011.

  • Apple iPad 2 Launches in China
Posted on May 9, 2011 by Pure Mobile

The Apple iPad 2 is a device that is renowned around the globe, and the recent launch of the device in China was met by huge crowds during its debut. The first customers lined up for a chance to purchase the device at about 5 PM local time in China. There were hundreds of people in line in some areas. Those who needed to use the rest room or eat were given one hour breaks, but if they took longer than that they were asked to go back to the back of the line.

A number of scalpers could been seen outside of locations offering iPad 2’s at a slightly increased price. It looks as tough the white version of the device was much more popular than the black version, selling out much quicker in most locations.

Similar crowds were seen during the US launch, and you can bet that when the device launches in other countries the same type of hype will be seen there as well. It is obvious that the iPad 2 will have successful launches nearly anywhere that it is released, based on the hype that has surrounded the launch in other locations.

Apple has not yet released information about their iPad 2 sales, but did say that they sold more than 4.69 million units in the second quarter of this year. That number was down from the 7.33 million units that were shipped during the first quarter. Although a decline was expected, that particular decline was a bit steeper than most thought that it would be. The iPad 2 launch in China has rekindled the hype for the device, and should help the company with launches in the future. If China is any indication, the worldwide demand is higher than it ever has been for the iPad 2.

  • The Isis mobile payment system has shelved plans for creating their own network, likely because it will just cost them far too much in the long run. The payment system so far has been a standalone service that was created by both AT&T and T-Mobile before the acquisition. This will utilize the Discover payment network and will allow for users to more easily make small purchases through their mobile devices.

Although the plans to release the payment system are still on schedule, they have scrapped plans to create a network of their own. The Wall Street Journal recently released an article in which they quoted multiple sources that stated that they were going to be ending their plans for creating their own network.

The idea of the Isis mobile payment system is that it will provide users with a mobile wallet of sorts that will allow for them to pay for small ticket items quickly using their mobile device. The device should also be able to provide users with personalized coupons that come straight from the mobile device itself.

Look for Isis to release more information about their service moving forward. So far the companies have been tight lipped regarding their plans for the payment portal. They are working on a swipe to buy proposition that will allow for users to make payments directly from their mobile device and will also provide them with a card to swipe through credit card machines until technology is made available to move away from this.
