Ah, Nokia – you are fast becoming a breath of fresh air! Sure, dumping Symbian for Windows as a mobile OS was a little harsh, but who can’t see the vividly dramatic humor in that? So in this week of consumer tech euphoria, what did Nokia dish out? A little love to its prospective customers in the United States: the first Nokia cell phone, the Lumia 900 4G LTE which was designed specifically with the US in mind.
Let’s be honest – this is a striking phone. Not only does it have a 4.3 inch Clearblack AMOLED display, the polycarbonate shell (available in cyan and black) is indeed both “bold and beautiful.” As this device was designed with the States in mind and is sporting Nokia’s new mobile OS alliance, Windows, it is no surprise that this model will be exclusive to AT&T when it is released. Unfortunately for customers tied to other network carriers, this smartphone is not to be released unlocked. Let our trend setting fashionable cases and skin accessories express your unique style. Make your mobile devices stand out. Customize your look – how cool can you be?
The inner workings and benefits of the Windows OS (People Hub, Live tiles etc) will override some customer concerns about the exclusivity with AT&T. Sporting 4G speed, a long lasting 1830 mAh battery, a typical 16GB of storage (and for flexible storage options, supplementary memory cards are an option) and a 8MP camera, this device may well be the preference for AT&T customers considering the “aggressive pricing” we are being advise to anticipate when the Lumia 900 is made available later this year. Discover an extensive selection of the latest lithium technology replacement cell phone and wireless devices batteries. Ensure your device is powered by brand name batteries for longer operating life.
I will say that the mobile app to connect to AT&T’s U-Verse as a remote is pretty darn neat. As is the Nokia Drive app to give customers free GPS capabilities. For gamers, rock a great set of headphones or ear pieces and soak in some bragging rights. Nokia’s partnership with EA will bring over 20 of the most popular games to the Windows Phone marketplace. Of course, the Nokia Lumia devices will be the first to benefit from this liaison. Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool! Discover select accessories such as; stylus & pens, micro SD memory cards, batteries, docking stations, Bluetooth headsets, data cables and glider gloves all specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.
With a great start to 2012, Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of devices for AT&T surmised the year’s goals beautifully: “Together, we are working to supercharge the ecosystem around the Nokia Lumia 900 and the Windows Phone platform.”
The CES extravaganza comes to an end today. Many new and upcoming companies vied to showcase breakthrough products and technology this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV. Like any successful mall, this convention has its premier companies at the show – like Microsoft. Discover the convenience of online shopping at renowned retailers such as Pure Mobile – your one stop shop for cell phone and mobile device accessories. PureMobile has an accessory solution for every lifestyle…. This is personal. This is you. This is Shopping Simplified.
In fact, it was in 1995 that Microsoft founder, Bill Gates first spoke at a CES workshop – at the Hilton. Addressing a small workshop of people, Gates told his freshman audience that the consumer electronics revolution would be social. In turn, the CES and Microsoft have had a symbiotic relationship and turned the event into a tech maelstrom quite unlike anything else. Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky! Alas, all good things must come to an end. Or at least to a pause. In Microsoft’s keynote speech which was delivered by the charismatic CEO, Steve Ballmer, wherein he announced that in the foreseeable future Microsoft would not be attending the CES event. This certainly captured the audience’s attention. Ballmer followed up with an interview with the one-and-only Ryan Seacrest where they began reviewing Microsoft’s 2012 line. As a well-known radio personality, Ryan Seacrest enjoys accessories that deliver high quality audio. Experience the mind blowing clarity of XMI Speakers. The Windows Phone 7 and how it flips the focus to the consumer by making it people centric (i.e. the vision behind their smartphone’s mobile platform creation). Showing their strength in not only manufacturing their own device, but also integrating the OS with other phone manufacturers, the audience got a peek at Nokia cell phone line up which includes Lumia 710 and Lumia 800.
This has the whispers of “unlocked cell phone” to their smartphone strategy. The degree that Google Android has employed this has been a factor in its swift global growth. In pairing with other vendors and letting its mobile OS win over customers in conjunction with unlocked devices, they have a greater chance of catching up on some major market shares.
The presentation continued into ASUS tablets and then into the very exciting Xbox / Kinect technology. Interactive, they have touched on another love of consumers: streamlining devices and gaining meaningful, real world technology. The Kinect can be used as an accessory of sorts to the Lumia 900 (or perhaps the other way around?!). The demos were seriously cool and would challenge even the most dedicated Luddite to play and marvel.

While I am on the lookout for such technology, you may be more interested in Sony’s announcement at the CES. An addition to the Sony line of cell phones – the Sony Xperia S! The stats for this newbie are actually pretty impressive: 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 display, 1GB of RAM, and an unheard of 12 megapixel rear camera that is all the more impressive for its use of Sony’s Exmor R backlit sensor. For the media lovers out there, a 16GB and 32 GB model will be available. It is unclear why the Xperia S does not have a micro SD memory card slot for additional memory capacity as this is relatively standard to give customers more flexibility and the ability to purchase more memory cards as needed. Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with the latest collection of desktop chargers , wall chargers and car chargers. Get all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.
The sleek device will be made available worldwide beginning in March. What we don’t know is the pricing, whether one or both versions will be made available to customers as unlocked. Oh, and don’t forget – this girl is itching to see some smartphone accessories that better work in a woman’s world!
The Consumer Electronics Show this week in Vegas is shaping up to be a great soapbox for reintroducing the feature phone king, Nokia, to the global competitive stage of smartphones. Beginning with an agreement with Microsoft last year, the Finnish company is placing its initial bets on the United States market and its partnership with Microsoft.
During Nokia’s press conference at CES, the audience was treated to more news about the Nokia line up of smartphones. Also mentioned is how the Windows mobile OS pairs with Nokia specific apps for a top notch customer experience. To top off the conference, there was a glimpse of the AT&T exclusive partnership in store for US customers (looks as though at least the Lumia 900 will not be unlocked).
As the Lumia 900 will be its flagship 4G LTE phone in the US, this is not surprising. The flip side is that the Lumia 710 launched with T-Mobile last year may now be fair game to be made available as an unlocked device to appease customers who prefer to choose their carrier and their smartphone. What’s really interesting is the pairing with Microsoft. The Windows Phone has not had an easy time of penetrating markets and neither has the ASUS tablet. But Microsoft isn’t a phone company per se. With a partnership between two companies that excel at what they do and have global brand recognition, 2012 could shape up to truly be Nokia / Microsoft’s year in consumer electronics. And, with the huge market shares of Windows Office there is great potential for business to business sales of smartphones (an audience member did inquire on a rumored RIM acquisition).
Jumping ahead to the use of the Lumia 900 as a remote for the Kinect technology for Xbox, the streamlining and integration potential of these two companies looks poised to seriously compete in the home, in the car (thank you, Nokia Drive), and in the office. Throw in a solid punch with those peripheral tech devices and accessories that make this kind of technology so much more meaningful in the real world, and we may have a great year of competition and innovation between Nokia / Microsoft, Google Android and Apple!
Is anyone else starting to get the many variations of Samsung Galaxy cell phone lineup mixed up? Clearly banking on the strong brand name, Samsung is preening over its revamped Galaxy Ace, the oh so originally named Galaxy Ace Plus. As stated by JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics in the latest addition’s press release, “In 2012, we will continue to make every effort to create an easy and fun mobile experience by expanding our incredibly popular GALAXY smartphone line of business, which is now one of the most recognized and successful mobile brands in the world.” This is a remarkably true statement when considering the success of the Android’s flagship smartphone… we are also hoping that perhaps 2012 will see similar success with Samsung Galaxy tablet releases.
The Galaxy Ace plus is touted to be a more budget friendly mobile device, it does not appear to be a tech junkie’s preferred handset. Using last year’s minimum specs – 1GHz processor, 5 MP camera, and 3GB memory. Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool! Despite Android’s release of its latest OS – Ice Cream Sandwich, this Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus smartphone still has the tried and true combo of Gingerbread OS and TouchWiz. Moreover Samsung is marketing the Galaxy ace Plus to trendy young professional who are chomping at the bit for ICS. Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky! Something else to consider is that despite the increased screen size the resolution is actually worsened as the pixel density is decreased. This less than revolutionary device will be made available in Russia starting this month. After that launch, the newest Galaxy handset will be roll out to Europe, CIS, Latin America, Southeast and Southwest Asia, the Middle East, Africa and China. Whether this new addition will be made available in these markets as an unlocked device is unknown at the moment or when it will be brought to North American shores.
As more and more reports come out highlighting the changes in mobile user behavior, the fast shift from feature phones to smartphones is also seeing a rapid uptick in the use of these handsets for web browsing. So in this smartphone world, who is browsing the mobile web the most? Based on the latest statistics from NetMarket Share, iPhone and iPad tablet consumers are still at the top of the pack.
Source: NetMarketShare
These December numbers indicate that iOS users have a whopping 52% share of mobile web browsing. This is a decrease from its all time high of 61.5% in October, but still a masterful showing for the year’s end. Apple’s most persistent mobile OS competitor, Google Android, came in third place with 16.2%. This is behind the lesser known Java ME who captured 21.27% of this pie. No surprise, Symbian, BlackBerry and “Other” (Windows Phone perhaps?) trailed in the single digits. Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky! Discover the latest innovative protection solutions… stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases specifically designed to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes. Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside these brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.
With the immense popularity and strength of Apple’s iPad tablet, the data may overly weighted in the favor of iOS. Still, with the exclusion of the market-defining tablet in this comparison (and the iPod Touch), the iPhone is still numero uno with 25.24% share of the mobile browsing pie.
The importance of these trends is that it does point to consumer preferences for their mobile devices. Smartphones, tablets, media devices all have the web browsing capability. And, with the very sticky nature of iTunes and the App store in winning over customers – in particular, those users integrating the iOS products into their life and investing in the high tech accessories that accompany them), it is no wonder that they continue to grow and compete with the “open” Google Android platform devices. Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool! Discover select accessories such as; stylus & pens, micro SD memory cards, batteries, docking stations, Bluetooth headsets, data cables and glider gloves all specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.
All of this information seems to be contradictory to Android’s consistent market gains across the world; however this is not surprising considering the number of manufacturers and unlocked phones made available on the Google OS platform. Nonetheless, as in any survey, the data could be skewed, so the greater litmus test of market power will have to be based on actual sales numbers.
On a personal note, my mother is a literature junkie. So, it is no surprise that on their cross country jaunts to visit over the holidays she loads up her smartphone with audio book downloads before hitting the road. As we discussed my newest iPad 2 tabletacquisition and simultaneously recounted the wonderful rendition of Austenland, she insisted I download the audio book app and log in under her name to download it. Just a few short minutes later, the file was available. Her response was “wow. I am seriously impressed at how fast you were able to download and store it without needing additional memory storage cards.”
And, in this world of instant gratification, speed is king. Especially on our mobile browsers. So which smartphone manufacturer has the need for speed? This is an excellent question considering the varying strengths of these smartphone players. Android is the bees knees in the LTE support category. iOS has the top of the line dual-core A5 chip to tout its excellence. And, Windows Phone has the IE mobile browser that kicks it into beast mode. Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky! This question may already be answered YouTube video posted below – which compares the Lumia 800, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 (running on the iOS version 4.3). It was no contest…the iPhone 4S was beyond the best performance. This is really no surprise when considering what is powering these phones. Nokia’s Lumia 800 has a single core processor which could not keep up with iPhone 4S’s dual core A5 chip. Great news for media junkies and browsers alike… as well as for book lovers like myself, worthy of buying a new pair of headphones for some superior lit listening. Enhance your mobility and turn your device into a power tool! Discover select accessories such as; stylus & pens, micro SD memory cards, batteries, docking stations, Bluetooth headsets, data cables and glider gloves all specifically designed to make your devices functionally efficient and performance rich.
There were, however, a few instances where Window’s Phone 7’s mobile browser overpowered the Safari browser on the iPhone 4’s iOS 4.3. That matchup is a bit questionable when taking into account the older version of iOS that the device was running. The question of carrier grade 3G or 4G speeds and availability may affect this as well. This is another great point for unlocked cell phones which empower customer to break free from service provider long term contracts and negotiate a service plan that better meets their unique lifestyle needs at lower costs.
As in any kind of real world testing, the results are not are controlled or predictable, but it can still be said that Apple produces a great smartphone that appeals to the mobile browser speed fiends out there.
Apple sure knows how to brand itself, spin events, and exploit great PR out of most any event. So, it is no surprise that the technology giant is said to be planning a media event for the end of January. All Things D reports that the event will not be centered around the announcement of the next generation tablet, the iPad3, which is rumored to be released in 2012. Secondary speculation may lead informed readers to think the event would be regarding prospective Apple’s iTV product release also slated for 2012. Although, based in California and understanding that importance of location, it would stand to reason that the unveiling of their iTV brand would be better framed in Hollywood. However, All Things D is suggesting that the event will be one of publishing or advertising occasion and as such, will be held in New York. As the head of many Apple media units (including the iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, iAd, and iCloud), Senior VP, Eddy Cue may be announcing the new head of its mobile advertising unit. Bound to be a great addition to continue the global love affair with iPhones and all of the smartphone’s innovative accessories, the mobile ad unit is a powerful arm in promoting Apple and its more accessible smartphones, iPad line of tablets, and related accessories including earpieces & headsets and speaker accessories.
Never without a newsworthy event to keep it in the spotlight (an announcement about unlocked iPhones would be welcomed by the public), Apple also recently opened a shiny new retail store in the Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan and is keeping its Fifth Avenue presence in tiptop condition with the refurbishment of that location’s flagship glass cube. Well Apple, keeps the good news rolling in!
Android has long looked for a competitive alternative to Apple’s first to market tablet, the iPad. So, when ASUS launched the Eee Pad Transformer last year the Google world was afire with the high quality and feature rich applications of this Taiwanese tablet. Energized by the market’s response, the next generation release, the Transformer Prime, was another hit. Discover an extensive selection of the latest lithium technology replacement unlocked cell phone and wireless devices batteries. Ensure your device is powered by brand name batteries for longer operating life.
Both of these devices rocked a 10.1 inch display. What makes these ASUS tablets especially popular is their versatility. They can dock into a keyboard which converts it into a netbook thus making it more user friendly for users that prefer a wireless keyboard over a soft keyboard. With the myriad of micro SD memory cards, desktop chargers, stylus & pens and other add-on accessories available to customize tablets into a more powerful tool, this is an incredibly appealing option for Android fans.
With this kind of popularity, it is no surprise that ASUS has started some exciting buzz around some speculated tablet debuts at the fast approaching Consumer Electronics Show in February. According to Notebook Italia, which recently shared leaked promotional images, they believe that the tablet manufacturer is preparing to uncover a 7 inch Eee Pad tablet. New inventive accessories for these prospective smaller tablets will be interesting to see considering the popularity of the hard keyboards on the 10.1 inch versions. Whether this is the long awaited Eee Pad MeMO (which made its first appearance at last year’s Consumer Electronic Show), or maybe even a new, sleeker and smaller Transformer tablet, the wait will not be long and an official announcement will put wondering minds at ease in just a few short weeks!
A classic attribute of technology is that it continuously evolving at light speed into more powerful applications and features. In stride to technological advances, consumer’s behavior has consistently kept text messaging a repeatable revenue source and a sustainable ROI for service providers and carriers across the world. Alas, the halcyon days of text messaging may quickly be coming to a close if recent reports are any indication of trends. A recent column in Forbes outlines that text messaging rates are declining in many countries around the world. The report metrics were based on the text messages sent this past Christmas Eve as it is one of the highest messaging days of the year. As Tero Kuittinen, the author of the article and a senior analyst for MGI Research wrote of the Finnish wireless carrier: Sonera – ‘As the major carrier of the Scandinavian country, it is a great marker for that country’s trends. Christmas Eve of 2010, 10.9 million messages had been exchanged. The same day a year later saw a drop to 8.5 million. This kind of decline was also seen in Hong Kong and other highly populated metropolises… with the fall off may being as high as 14%. Get powered up for work, life and play easily and conveniently with the latest collection of desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers. Get all the power and energy you need for the mobile lifestyle.
These numbers may seem contradictory considering how consumers leverage cell phones foor both communications and as a pocket PC. Do we talk more? Nope. Traditional texting is down? Yup. Are we using our phones as a multi media tool? You betcha. So where does this equation balance? The word “traditional.” Organic Facebook and Twitter support on Apple and Google smartphones is changing how we communicate. Add in email and free messaging apps (MMS versus SMS) and there is a recipe that doesn’t bode well for carriers and cuts the bonds of contracts and messaging packages that have lined their pockets for approximately 15 years. Discover the widest online selection of Bluetooth Headsets and BlueTooth Car Kits. Latest technology from top brand manufacturers. When considering the increasing popularity of unlocked phones and the growing power of mobile consumers, this news should be closely considered by US carriers like AT&T and Verizon. Kuittinen noted in the Forbes article that for these major American carriers the next few years could see their earnings growth markedly decline. No surprise when “as much as 20% of carrier earnings are derived from text messaging.” These players will seriously have to reconsider their strategy and plans to capture the business from unlocked phone users and the continuing evolution of messaging.
