Moshi for iPad

  • Apple will be holding an event on October 22nd, but just what they are announcing is something of a mystery. The obvious contender is the iPad. Both the iPad and the iPad Mini are due for upgrades and if you follow the bread crumbs, it should be clear what kind of upgrades we are looking at.

    A7 Processors

At last month's iPhone 5S and 5C event, Apple showed off their all new 64-bit A7 Processors. It is highly likely that any new iPad or iPad Mini will feature this new processor as Apple strives to set the 64-bit processor as the new standard in smartphone and tablet tech. The A7 chip basically doubled the speed of the Apple iPhone 5S over the older iPhone 5 and that kind of jump in speed should be expected for the new iPads as well.

    Retina Display

While the latest iPad already features the Retina Display, the iPad Mini is still stuck in the stone-age of screen technology. It should come as no surprise that Apple will find a way to cram Retina Display tech into a smaller body. This will be a huge step for the iPad Mini line and will further establish the Mini as a bonafide tablet, and not just a shrunken iPad.

    Other Possible Announcements

It is a foregone conclusion that any upcoming Apple event will also spotlight the release of Apple's OS X Mavericks Operating System for laptop and desktop computers. Developers already have their hands on what Apple calls the "Golden Master" version of the OS, meaning that it's ready to go.

Additionally, It is expected that Apple will be refreshing the MacBook Pro, souping up their Pro line with the MacBook Air's Haswell Processors. These processors are incredibly efficient, and stretched the MacBook Air's battery life beyond 12 hours. This will give the heavyweight lifting Pro the endurance of the marathon running Air, really pushing the MacBook Pro to new limits.

  • PureMobile is always looking to build its catalogue of brands. While some heavy-hitters like Apple, Samsung, and Sony will always be present, it's often the smaller companies that can drive innovation in different and exciting ways. Take the three we are going to look at. iOttie is a manufacturer of device mounts that take mounts from your car and expand on their use by making mounts for desks and bikes. Lunatik make high quality styli for different applications. MiPow is a leader in portable power accessories. All three brands are very exciting and now it's time to look at the products that inspire this excitement.

    iOttie

Founded in 2010, iOttie is a maker of high-quality car mounts. These mounts go beyond just securing your device in your car, but open up the opportunity for you to attach your smartphone or tablet to your desk or bike as well. iOttie's mounts feature a one-touch system that lock your device into the mount safely and securely. Here is a look at our favourite device from this brand.

Visit PureMobile for more information about the iOttie iPad Desk/Car Mount.

    Lunatik

Lunatik made their mark on Kickstarter, successfully funding their first major product, a watch kit for iPods. Since then Lunatik has been plying their trade on products such as styli. PureMobile now carries three different variations of their styli and can't wait to see what this artistically driven brand has up their sleeves.

Vistit PureMobile for more information on the Lunatik Alloy Touch Pen.

    MiPow

MiPow is a leader in the manufacturing of portable power accessories. Licensed by Apple, MiPow is growing in name as their products begin to speak for themselves. Featuring portable chargers with lightning capabilities in addition to high capacities, MiPow is a brand worth keeping an eye on as the portable power sector continues to rise in prominence.

  • The Samsung Galaxy Gear is the first smartwatch from Samsung. Unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, The Galaxy Gear is designed to work with the hulking Note 3 and, eventually, the Samsung Galaxy S4. This device aims to reduce your dependence on your smartphone by taking functions that usually require you to pull out, unlock, and power up your device and making them doable by looking at your wrist.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear gives you the ability to handle phone calls and answer text messages without pulling out your smartphone. While it doesn't presently support email or social media, the number of apps available for the Gear is expected to increase after the smartwatch hits the market.

Aesthetically, The Galaxy Gear is a very well put together device. It features a button-less front, a brushed metal finish, and a black rubber strap. This combination makes for a very solid package overall. The device features just one button. This button powers up the device with a single click, or activates the voice command features with a second click. It also comes in a wide variety of colours, but we are particularly fond of the black and silver finishes. Overall the look of it walks the line between being nerdy and professional, but should be universally accepted in terms of its looks.

The screen itself is a 1.6 inch touchscreen. While that seems on the small side, the screens 320x320-pixel resolution is nothing to laugh at. Small text looks sharp and there are no problems reading names, numbers, or texts on the Gear's screen. The Gear's onboard camera, which is built into the strap, is 1.9 megapixel shooter and is powered by a 800 MHz processor.

While the technology is new, the Samsung Galaxy Gear gives us lots to be excited about when it comes to the smartwatch. It will be interesting to see how apps are eventually utilized on the device and where we go from here when it comes to wearable tech.

  • Samsung has hit some major home runs over the last couple years. They launched the massively popular Samsung Galaxy S3. This phone went on to sell boatloads of units and really raise the profile of Samsung in the handheld market. The proper follow up to that smartphone was the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Samsung Galaxy S4 marked a major improvement on the S3 and raised Samsung's profile further. Samsung is looking to grow their marketshare even more with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. This slimmed down version of the S4, the S4 Mini is a powerhouse phone, shrunken down to compete with smaller smartphones like the Apple iPhone. We are going to take a look at the coolest cases to outfit your S4 Mini on the Blog today.

    Otterbox Commuter

Protect your Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini with Otterbox's Commuter Series. The Commuter Series is a slim and tough protective case made of a durable silicone mid-layer and a one-piece, custom-moulded polycarbonate shell. Its smooth finish allows it to slide easily in and out of pockets. This case provides added protection against scratches, bumps and shock.

    Samsung Clear Cover

    Samsung Flip Cover

Outfit your new Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini with a case truly made for it. This cover, which ships in White, Black, Blue, and Pink, takes care of your phone front and back by attaching into the place of your back cover and wrapping around to cover your smartphone. • The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is going to be hitting stores this week across multiple carriers. This "phablet" was revealed last month by Samsung along with the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch and features some very high-end specs. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3's 5.7 inch screen is a full 1080p screen, making it one of the clearest screens on any smartphone to date. In addition to a super powerful screen, the Note 3 is run by a super slick, quad-core SnapDragon 800 processor. All this is powered by a massive 3200 mAh battery that is sure to push this phone far battery-life wise.

While all the hoopla about the phones internals is worth debate, we are here to talk accessories. Samsung of course will be first out of the gate with their official accessories. Samsung tends to deliver the most functional accessories for their devices as seen with their collection of flip covers for their earlier phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4. In the case of the Note 3 they have done so again by introducing some very high quality covers for their new device.

    Samsung Leather Cover

Protect your new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from all angles with this high quality leather cover from Samsung. Featuring a silicone cover to protect your smartphone, this leather cover folds shut to protect your Note 3 while it's not in use. The case itself protects your phone from dust and water and does so without compromising your phone's functionality as all key buttons and ports are accessible while you use this case.

    Samsung S View Leather Cover

The S-View Flip Cover is designed to provide the best of both worlds, combining the fashion and privacy of a Flip Cover with the convenience of a screen window that allows view-through access to alerts, status and vital information. The viewing window within this cover is interactive, making it possible for you to answer or reject incoming calls and end current calls without having to open the flip. The S-View Flip Cover also powers up your display when opened, and puts it to sleep when closed.

BlackBerry has announced the Z30, their latest and easily most powerful phone yet. The new BlackBerry flagship features a five inch screen, an updated BlackBerry 10 Operating System, a massive battery, upgraded speakers, and a 1.7 gigahertz processor. This phone is a followup to the Z10, the phone BlackBerry unveiled at the beginning of the year to some acclaim. Since then, BlackBerry has made improvements to its operating system but has hardly made gains in terms of public perception, with rumours swirling that the company is looking to sell. While that remains to be seen, we have gotten our hands on the first batch of accessories for this new smartphone. Here are some of our favourites!

    BlackBerry Transform Case

The BlackBerry Transform Case for the BlackBerry Z30 is a very unique case from the Canadian smartphone maker. The back of the case is designed to split in two, turning your regular case into a stand for your Z30. This case snaps on easily, comes in different colours, and ships with a screen protector as well.

    BlackBerry Flip Case

This flip case for the BlackBerry Z30 features a flip enclosure that covers the entire front of the phone, flipping downward to display your screen. This case incorporates power-saving technology, extending the life of your battery while protecting your smartphone at the same time. This leather case allows you to see the notification LED and is very durable.

    BlackBerry Leather Swivel

A staple of the BlackBerry accessory lineup. The BlackBerry Leather Swivel is your traditional BlackBerry case for your BlackBerry Z30. Snapping onto your belt, this case keeps your phone close by and allows you to always see the notification LED on your BlackBerry Z30. Like the previous case, this leather case also features power-saving technology, a magnetic closure, and a soft interior, ensuring your phone doesn't get scratched while its in your holster.

  • Apple Announces New iPhone 5S
Posted on September 13, 2013 by keith holland

Apple has announced the successor to the Apple iPhone 5, the Apple iPhone 5S. The phone was revealed, along with its tech brother the iPhone 5C, at a press event in Cupertino, California on September 10th. Lets take a look at what sets this phone apart from the iPhone 5 and what new features Apple has introduced with this iteration of its massively popular iPhone line.

The first, and biggest, innovation worth discussing is the introduction of the fingerprint reader embedded in the home button of the new iPhone. In addition to serving as a means to lock and unlock your device, this fingerprint reader introduces a bevy of new features such as the ability to pay for songs, movies, and apps through either Apple's App Store or iTunes using just your fingerprint. Well this is cool, when developers get their hands on this tech there is sure to be an influx of ideas on how to further optimize this potentially revolutionary tech.

In addition to that small piece of news, the iPhone 5S will be arriving in an all-new colour. Apple calls it Champagne, but lets be real, this is a gold iPhone. I was originally skeptical, but I have since warmed up to the idea of a golden iPhone. It could have turned out very cheesy, but thankfully this golden iPhone is gorgeous.

In addition to the outside, the inside of the iPhone 5S got a serious makeover. The new iPhone 5S ships with an all new 64-bit, A7 processor. This tech doesn't just improve over the iPhone, it doubles its processing power and introduces the world to console level graphics on a handheld device. In fact, the new processor makes the iPhone 5S 56 times as powerful as the original iPhone.

While there will always be skeptics, I think the Apple iPhone 5S has delivered on all counts and will be a rousing success for Apple. The upgrades as excellent, the potential for the fingerprint scanner is pretty much limitless, and the new colour is a thing to behold. Check out the new iPhone when it hits stores September 20th.

  • Sony Unveils The Sony Xperia Z1
Posted on September 5, 2013 by keith holland

In what was a rush of announcements internationally, Sony unveiled the Sony Xperia Z1 today as well. This phone is built to succeed Sony's current flagship, the Xperia Z. Built to be a processing powerhouse with a crisp HD screen, the Sony Xperia Z1 is looking like it could join the upper echelon of smartphones, thrusting Sony near the forefront of the industry.

First things first, this is probably Sony's best build ever. The Xperia Z1 features a lot of glass. The front and back are both built with glass, making things smooth and stylish. The phone is held together by a single, machined piece of aluminum, that softens the edge of the Xperia Z1's edges and doing so about as fashionably as possible. Inside, the phone is juiced with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor supercharged to 2.2 GHz and features a 20.7 megapixel camera, a large improvement on the Xperia Z's camera. The display measures in at 5 inches and is a full HD display.

Like most of Sony's top-end phones, the Xperia Z1 is 100% waterproof. The waterproofing has actually been improved in this model, with ports like the headphone jack no longer requiring protective plugs.

While this phone is certainly impressive, it remains to be seen where exactly it will fit in the changing mobile landscape. Many phones are on the verge of updates including two heavy-hitters, the HTC One and Apple iPhone 5. It will be very interesting to see how this phone stacks up to phones in this generation and the next one as words like octo-core and 41 megapixels float around in terms of what kind of muscle we will soon see in our smartphones. Needless to say, this phone is a bold statement for Sony who signal that they are ready to compete with the big boys instead of just lurking just below excellence like they did with the original Sony Xperia Z.
