  • The Guinness Book of World Records will be releasing a new game for unlocked cell phones, and will be printing the high scores from the game in their book. Up until this point, Guinness World Records have made it a point not to publish the high scores of games that are not popular on a national level within their book. This will be the first time that they have published the high scores from a game that was not popular on a national level.

The game, which will reportedly be called “Guinness World Records: Gamers Edition Arcade” and will feature a number of different games for which the high scores will be tracked. There will be five different min-games in total. One, called Monkey Country will have you take out as many primates as possible in just one minute.

There has been no word as to how the company will track the games to make sure that people have not found a way to exploit the different facets of the game. As with any mini game, inevitably someone figures out a way to beat the programming and garner the high score. It will be interesting to see if they put any kind of anti-cheating in place to ensure that no one sneaks their way into the Guinness Book of World Records. They are usually quite strict, and require that the actual event be recorded.

If this idea is successful, look for the company to consider more ideas like this in the future. The goal of getting into the book is one that many people have, but few are able to do. Now, they have given a way for people to get in without having to call out an inspector.

  • Details of the ongoing fight between Microsoft, Google and the US government have made their way online. The two companies have had disagreements over the type of software that they have been using. Google first filed a lawsuit against the government during the fourth quarter of 2010, stating that the Department of Interior claiming that their software was not given a fair look when they were making their choice. Ultimately, the government decided to choose the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite over the Google Apps for the smart phone such as Sim free iPhone 4.

There were several channels that the software had to go through in terms of approval before it was allowed to be used by the government. One of those channels was receiving the official FISMA stamp from the General Services Administration.

Google Apps Premier first received the certification in the summer of 2010, and should have been available to be chosen. Google additionally created a Google Apps for the smart phone such as Sim free Apple iPhone 4 for Government version of the software that was even more secure than the previous version. Despite this fact, they were unable to get the certification for their Google Apps for government version, and claim that they were sabotaged by those within the government, resulting in their software not receiving a fair shake.

The government did end up choosing Microsoft’s software, but has maintained that their software was chosen for its security features and not because of any sort of inside conspiracy against the Google software.

The details that have leaked so far have not been confirmed by any party, and it would be surprising if any of them addressed the matter openly. In fact, you can bet that they will choose not to address it for quite some time - or at least until the lawsuit has reached its end.

  • BlackBerry will be launching their BlackBerry PlayBook on the 19th of April, and those who have been anxiously awaiting the tablet can breathe a sigh of relief because it looks as though Research In Motion themselves will be handling customer support for the popular tablet, much in the same way that Apple does with their devices like unlocked iPhone 4. Most of the time Research In Motion works with the carriers that sell products to get through the customer support, but are likely looking for the BlackBerry PlayBook to be a much more personal experience.

Usually, you can only get ah old of Research In Motion after you have gone through the proper carrier channels. The Wi-Fi PlayBook will be available to users at a number of different retail outlets. This is the first time that Research In Motion will serve as the first official contact point for users who are experiencing trouble with their devices.

The company is looking to implement an “Apple Care” style of support that will allow users to go directly through them. The only downside is that they lack the number of retail locations that Apple does, which could make it a little more difficult for users to get the support that they are looking for.

They will offer complimentary support for the first 90 days that the tablet will be released, and will also offer a limited warranty for every device and a BlackBerry Total Care program that will allow users to receive care for their device for as long as they are willing to pay for it once the limited warranty plan has ended. There are many different options available to people that are looking at purchasing the PlayBook and were hoping for more support. RIM is a renowned company, and new users should be excited to see if they are able to live up to their name in terms of support.

  • New Sprint Music Service
Posted on April 14, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Spring is going to be launching a new music services for unlocked cell phone customers of their Sprint Music Plus service. The entire operation will be powered by Real Networks and will allow users to purchase MP3 songs for just $0.69. These songs can then be used as ringtones. The app is currently available for Sprint phones with the Sprint Zone application, and is also available on a number of BlackBerry devices as well.

Devices that were first released before May 2010 will only have access to ringtones and ringback tones through their Sprint Music Plus service. Users will be able to save on each individual ringtone and song when they bundle them together in packs.

All of the purchases that are made through the music system will appear on the Sprint wireless bill. The company released a press release about the potential service earlier in the day to lay out a few of the more interesting features that will be seen with their new service.

To start, users will be able to create particular playlists of different songs, and will be able to specify tones for different callers in your contacts list.

The service will also allow you to search for music by specific artists, or by the generic or through the playlists on your music library manager. This allows you to preview content and also receive recommendations based on the music that you have downloaded and purchased thus far.

It will certainly be interesting to see how well this new service takes off for Sprint. They are likely looking to compete directly with iTunes and Apple iphone 4 unlocked with this new service. The ability for them to market the music directly to their current users should help them to be able to take off.

  • Although the unlocked Nokia ( E6 ) and Nokia E7 have had a lot of their details leaked previous to the announcement, today Nokia released information about their two new Symbian smart devices that will run ont he brand new “Anna” operating system. The E6 is a business phone that will come with a full QWERTY keyboard.

The phone will come with a 640 x 480 touchscreen display, as well as an eight megapixel camera. The X7 is a similar phone, but will be geared toward regular consumers instead of business consumers. It will have an AMOLED screen, and will have a stainless steel design, along with eight megabytes of storage.

The new design will feature a redesigned interface, as well as new icons and much quicker web browsing. It is a huge upgrade over previous versions of the device. The new version of Symbian was created to provide a commercial level grade of security.

The pones will be launching sometime int he second quarter of this year. Nokia stopped short of releasing any of the pricing information about either of the phones. The X7 will not be released in the United States, but the company is considering releasing the phone in other countries but has not made any commitments at this time.

The X7 is a phone that is much more geared toward entertainment than it is to business like its brother phone. Both phones look great based on the descriptions that were released today. The strong, yet sleek designs of the phone represent the new style that they have been running with for their last few announced devices. The new Symbian Anna software is one of the best out there for businesses and has become the go-to operating system for Nokia in these cases.

  • Experian Hitwise, a web analytics company has stated that Bing looks as though it has been able to garner 30% of the US search market from Google. This is a bit of a surprising figure for a search engine that is less than two years old in total. This means that Bing has moved up more than 6% between the months of February and March. Google saw their share of the US search market fall about 3%, leaving them with just over 64% of the search market.

Of course, Google is still the undisputed leader in the US and world search markets. However, some have suggested that perhaps the Bing and Yahoo agreement have made both companies much more effective than Google has been in recent years. The firm states that over 80% of searches that come from Bing and Yahoo will result in finding a website you are looking for, while only about 65% of Google searches will get you to where you would like to be.

Google is certainly falling in the US, but maintains a stranglehold on the world market as a whole. With Bing and Yahoo gaining ground through their agreement, Google will have to figure out how they can maintain their current hold on the US market.

Bing has aggressively pursued unlocked cell phone users since the incident took place, and has managed to carve out a number of deals that will allow them to take hold of some of the market. Bing and Yahoo reached an agreement to run through the same platform over a year ago, and it has been undeniably good to them, as they have seen their overall market share rise quite a bit since the deal was first enacted. Google has yet to comment on the story after it broke.

  • Cisco is going to be restructuring their business, and has stated that they are going to be killing off certain parts of their business. They will make a larger effort to focus on the core of the company, including collaboration, services and video. Their popular camera, the Flip, will no longer be in the company’s plans as a result of their restructuring. The company has said that they will continue to support those that had already purchased the phone, but would not be dedicating any more resources to the development of the device.

They claimed that a larger profitability was the main reasoning behind their decision to restructure. In rent years they had moved more toward the retail end of things, when that was previously not the type of products that they had put forward. They are looking to get deeper into video and explore new ways to profit.

The company said in a statement that the company was making a number of targeted moves to end in a new platform strategy for the company. It is good to hear that they will continue to provide support for Flip users, despite the fact that they will no longer be releasing new versions of the device.

As Cisco’s profits have fallen in recent months, many have expected for plans to be made to change the direction that they were heading. Today’s announcement shows that they are now looking into their past and their future for new revenue sources and are concentrating on aspects of their business that they have a strong hold over.

It will be interesting to see if they release any more retail products like the Flip Video, or if they will take things in a completely different directions.

  • Atari Releases Greatest Hits on iOS
Posted on April 11, 2011 by Pure Mobile

Have you ever wanted to play your old favorite Atari games on your smart phone? There have been some titles that have been released that have been successfully ported or copied, but nothing quite like the recent release by Atari for iOS device such as unlocked iphone 4 and ipad. The company is releasing their top 100 greatest hits for all to feast upon. The collection is quite impressive, and should garner quite a bit of attention.

They will also be releasing their iCade cabinet in June, which will turn the iPad into a virtual arcade console and should become pretty popular. Some of the titles that will be added to the collection that is being released by Atari.

The new release will include 18 classic games that were released during the early days of gaming. The other games will come from their consoles. The app and all 100 games for cell phone will only cost $14.99. While that does seem expensive for an app, but with all of the content that they are delivering it is actually quite a good deal.

Look at it as four different $0.99 packs of 25 games, if you are looking for a way to justify the price. Atari has made some of the most recognizable games over the years including the ultra popular Pong, 3d Tic Tac Toe, and Warlords.

Atari is one of the top gaming companies of all time, and the fact that they are releasing such an interesting pack of games should draw a lot of attention. The response from middle aged gamers should be ridiculous, and will allow for younger gamers to really take a look at older games that they never got a chance to play throughout their childhood. Watch for these Atari games to continually garner a lot of attention from media sources as a result of this fantastic release.

  • Although the kind of technology that can be seen with their smart phones might suggest otherwise, a data analytics company has recently reported that for the first time in the history of the nation smart phones are outselling feature phones. This is a global trend, but Japan is the first country to officially have more  cell phones in circulation than feature phones. The numbers were collected between March 28th and April 3.

This is the first time that this has ever been recorded. The analytics company has said that Android such as unlocked Samsung Captivate i897, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, etc.. was the main reasoning behind the recent shift, because the operating system has become insanely popular in recent months in Japan and continues to grow quickly in popularity.

The report wasn’t really a surprise to most. Japan is known for their smart phone crazes, and has been at the forefront of developing and creating mobile technology for quite some time. It will certainly be interesting to see if the numbers continue to surpass one another. They typically shift from one week to the next, but this is the first time that there has ever been a lead on the side of smart devices. Both types of phones share about 50% of the total phone market at this moment.

Watch as smart phones continually become much more common in the coming months in Japan and in other countries. Although Japan may be at the forefront - other countries are not  that far behind themselves. Look for perhaps the United States or other countries to see similar numbers at some point in the future. In many American homes, cell phones have virtually replaced the use of landline phones, although this is not as common in Canada and other surrounding countries.  Japan might be the first, but rest assured they will not be the last.

  • The musical team Bluebrain has developed an application that makes their new album location aware. The new album will dictate where you can listen to the music, the song that it will be playing, and when it will be playing them. The new album is titled “The National Mall” is was created to provide the perfect backdrop for wherever you are at any given time.

The album will use phones GPS to track where you are. They have hundreds of tagged zones that allow you to play certain songs when you are in the given zone. It will be the first location aware album that has ever been released, and will be available on iOS device such as iphone 4 unlocked and ipad.

At the very least, it is a very interesting take on how to make an album in an industry that has really taken a hit due to Internet privacy. Are you looking to hear a certain melody that corresponds with the area that you are in? Take a walk and go to a different monument to hear different songs.

Their hope is that the album will become the official soundtrack for tours of the area. Soem have suggested that because you can not listen to every track whenever you want, that the app and album will not sell all that well. Their new idea has been heavily covered by media sources and should be one of the quickest growing apps from BlueBrain, a group that has become renowned for their ability to compose great landscape dependent sound scapes.

At the very least, you might want to give it a look. If you like the music and are in the DC area, BlueBrain offers great sounds that truly will give you the perfect music for any given monument that you are at.
